Actor ALEC BALDWIN has urged visitors to New York to ditch the city's famous horse-drawn carriages - and get drunk and take drugs instead.

The native New Yorker claims the vices are as valid a "tradition" as the carriages, which he claims are cruel to the horses forced to pull tourists around Manhattan.

Speaking at a People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals event in the city on Wednesday (18Jun08), Baldwin told WENN about the traditions he took part in during his youth in New York: "I walked through Union Square on my way to acting class and got offered loose joints. Drug dealing was a great tradition in this city.

"There are other traditions people can get involved with in this city. When I was younger, I used to get a bottle of wine and get drunk under the Staten Island Ferry... so there are things like that you can do."

Classy.

I was just talking to my son who started his first job this summer. He was lamenting the fact that he'd been working his tush off and had only made a few hundred dollars. This from a kid who had no concept of money a few months ago. Ah nothing like life experience to teach lessons to the younguns.

This is a matter HMSA takes very seriously; we do not tolerate or condone this type of behavior in our workplace. We are currently reviewing the situation in accordance with HMSA guidelines and state and federal laws.

Note: I did not report that abusive email to them. They didn't say how they learned about it; maybe someone else reported it, or maybe they saw the referrals from LGF and checked it out themselves.

But I'm really surprised (in a good way, for once) that a corporation is being so proactive. I'm used to being ignored when I report this kind of stuff, which is why I didn't bother this time.

What if we give the drugs to the horses?

HBO had a documentary on PETA a while ago that I think you can still see on-demand. It was mostly supporting (HBO skews strongly liberal), but it was intesting as an outsider to see their point-of-view. They are normalizing craziness, and pretty much act as the Shin Feyn (sp) to the animal rights terrorists that burn SUVs and free labratory animals.

Militant activists are militant activists, even when they are defending small warm fuzzy creatures.

I feel for you. When I married my wife, she was a vegetarian for 14 years (no peta though). Thankfully, after a few years of marriage, she can appreciate a rare bone-in Ribeye with the best of em'

I could never be a vegetarian. I gave up meat for Lent in 1991 and it was torture. And I became anemic.

Sorry to keep doing this, but if I don't keep mentioning it, I could miss hosting some of you.

On July 26, 2008, I will be hosting a lizard/barfly (Baen books) party in San Jose. If you are interested, please email me and I'll give you the details.

The current thought is that it will begin at 3 pm and run until we kick the last person out. There will be food! Prepared by my Male, and two of our friends - and I assure you that I will have nothing to do with the food, so you're perfectly safe!

Tomahawk-chopping Chick-fil-A cow heads to Turner Field

If you're driving past Turner Field next week and see a strange object above left field, your eyes are not deceiving you.

Chick-fil-A's metro Atlanta restaurants are taking the company's cow campaign to new heights, hoisting a 40-foot tall, 15,000-pound, tomahawk-chopping mechanical cow atop the Braves' stadium.

The cow is expected to arrive in Atlanta this weekend and be unveiled at the June 20 game against the Seattle Mariners. Look for it between the big Coca-Cola bottle and the out-of-town scoreboard.

Does wine cut down on cholesterol? Is so, I'm good.

In general yes. Alcohol in wine helps keep cholesterol more 'soluble' so to speak...

Red wine has compounds that is anti oxidant in nature and is very helpful.

I had a patient who was informed she had high cholesterol, so she just decided on her own to drink red wine with her meals daily and upon the next blood tests, it was found her reading was much lower...without taking medications.

This is not to say it works on everyone...but it helps rather than hurts.

And of course, the key is moderation...if one drinks more than one drink a day...there are other issues one would have to contend with.

PETA Angry At Jessica Simpson Over T-Shirt

Washington (eCanadaNow) - PETA is not happy with Jessica Simpson to say the least after she was seen with a t-shirt which stated "Real Girls Eat Meat."

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has fired back at Simpson for the t-shirt she was seen wearing.

They released a statement saying "Jessica Simpson't meaty wardrobe malfunction makes us thankful that no one is looking to her for food advice. Chicken-of-the-Sea anyone? The woman who thought that Buffalo 'Wings' came from buffalos would benefit from some good veggie brain food."
The rumor is that Jessica Simpson wore the shirt to take a shot at former girlfriend off Tony Romo, Carrie Underwood.

Romo, now Simpson's boyfriend, apparently still has feelings for Underwood, who was twice named by PETA as the "World's Sexiest Vegetarian."

Later the hoopster remembered he'd be at the Sierra Suites in Santa Clara around that time with some old college buddies. There is always a need to crash a party in California..
I went back and couldn't remember the handle or find the post..

So if you have seen this post yesterday could someone direct me to it?
let's see..what else? oh yea..
madisons friend was saying..

If you are young, maybe it is okay but I am noweating oatmeal, yogurt, salads, whole grain everything- with a side of lipitor. and this is with being a vegetarian(although i started being a veggie later in life).
I say...I was told 1 oz of some kind of booze a day is also good for you..like wine or something like that.
Don't forget to run or workout everyday..stay active.
don't get over weight..that's real bad..and remember to have fun and enjoy life every day to it's fullest.. You just never know when it's your last day here on Earth...

I have found a good treatment for poison ivy: make up a lotion of equal parts dish detergent, baking soda and oat flour. Spread this paste on the afflicted areas. After the pus is drawn out, wash it all off with very warm water, and apply the paste again. Repeat.

This won't "cure" the problem overnight, but it will reduce the suffering and shorten the healing time.

POLL: AMERICANS THINK MCCAIN LOVES AMERICA MORE THAN OBAMA

Whether John McCain or Barack Obama wins in November, a majority of Americans say they will be proud of the new president, according to a FOX News poll released Thursday.

About two-thirds would be at least somewhat proud to have Obama, who would be the first African-American president. A similar number would be proud to have McCain, who would be the first Vietnam veteran to become president. In addition, a majority think McCain loves America "a great deal," while less than half think Obama does.

Poison ivy...has anyone used tea tree oil ? Latin name is Melaleuca..

It could possibly control the itching and some inflammation...

A gazillion years ago I got poison oak -- in the army, during basic training. Had to use calamine lotion. What a pain. Took almost 2 weeks to clear up. But I missed bivouac, so it wasn't all bad.

The Monzer's Ball Meets the Transporter

Victor Bout and Monzer al-Kassar: household names, if not in the land of the living, then among the houses of the soon to be dead: the victims of the world's Merchants of Death. Victor Bout was a notorious Russian arms dealer, doing business all over the world, who was arrested in a DEA sting operation in Thailand, where he remains. The Americans want him tried in New York. The Russians don't.

The Russian Blout & the Syrian Monzer were arrested for involvement in a deal to sell missiles to FARC. There names were among the many interesting facts on the now notorious FARC laptop captured by Venezuela. The same laptop that mentioned a meeting with representatives of the US Democratic Party...

Syrian born Monzer has also been accused by the Iraqi gov't of funding the insurgency...

The world of international arms dealers is small, so it's worth asking if there is any connection with Monzer to that other Syrian born fixer, Tony Rezko or to Rezko's Iraqi friends Nadhmi Auchi or Aiham Alsammarae? Because if there is a connection to those 3, then the names of the Democrats on that laptop become very pertinent indeed.

Does anybody have any intel or news stories they can share?

We have a routine at this house. Alarm goes off at 4:45, I curse a bit and heave myself out of bed. The cat comes tearing down the hall to lead me to the front door and runs out to enjoy that 'magic time' before sunrise.

Except these last two days. He comes tearing down the hall alright and runs to the door. But stops in mid-bound through the door, sniffs the air and refuses to go out. Even a gentle prod will not send him out.

Admittedly he has been dubbed, with some justification, 'The 'Fraidyest Cat In the Whole Wide World." He's not likely ever to be sucked into a vacuum cleaner as the very sight of one sends him running. Loud noises are something else to be run from now and investigated later. And thunder and lightening cause him to rear back as though someone had said "Frau Blucher" behind his back suddenly.

But there's something out there. I wish I knew what.

S and Canadian intelligence agencies warned Thursday that a Hizbullah attack on Jewish targets around the world could be imminent.

ABC News quoted intelligence officials as saying that Hizbullah had activated sleeper cells in Canada, and that top terror operatives had left Lebanon - to the US, Canada and Africa.

...

There was no reliable intelligence regarding the possible targets of such an attack, the sources told ABC News, adding however, that Hizbullah operatives had recently been seen conducting surveillance on the Israel embassy in Ottawa and on several Toronto synagogues.

...

"They want to kill as many people as they can, they want it to be a big splash," former CIA intelligence officer Bob Baer, who claimed he met Hizbullah leaders in Beirut last month, was quoted by ABC News as saying. "They cannot have an operation fail and I don't think they will. They're the A-team of terrorism."

According to officials quoted by the report, up to 20 suspected Hizbullah members have been under surveillance and their activities were being coordinated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.

Not going to lie. This is pretty scary if true. I live in Toronto, and while my shul is incredibly tiny, I have numerous friends who attend larger synagogues.

Here's to hoping CSIS and every other intelligence/law enforcement agency can nab these assholes before they try anything too big.

It's also a word from the quote that Mark Steyn is getting harrassed by the Human Rights commission for - yet it was a quote by an Iman saying they were breeding like Mosquitos. I just noticed the workd "mosque" in mosquitos.

This from your link:

CIA and NSA officials quoted by the report said that British and Canadian agencies began receiving a flow of intelligence on February 17, only a few days after Mughniyeh's funeral, regarding a possible Hizbullah attack.

"Hizbullah would not carry out an attack in the west, or wherever this attack is going to occur, without approval from Teheran," Baer was quoted as saying

Treasury Moves on Hezbollah in Venezuela
By Douglas Farah

The Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) today several entities tied to Hezbollah and operating in Venezuela. This is the first time I can find of the U.S. government directly and publicly linking Hezbollah funding activities to Venezuela.

This is part of a larger pattern, including, as I wrote earlier, of the penetration of Hezbollah and Iran in Venezuela, with the blessing of the Chavez government.

Not long Iran began banking operations in Venezuela as well, in an effort to bypass the international sanctions in place and those that may follow in coming days.

According to the OFAC statement, one of the men designated, Ghazi Nasr al Din, is a Hezbollah fund raiser who has facilitated the travel of senior Hezbollah operatives to Venezuela to raise funds and open Hezbollah-funded social centers.

This, of course, is greatly facilitated by the direct flights now operating between Caracas and Tehran, with return stops in Damacus, Syria. The added beauty of these flights is that those who board them don't need visas, so there is no record available as to who has come or gone. And, despite being commercial flights, it if virtually impossible for a normal person to book and fly on the flights.

The Axis of Evil has a new member.

It's official: Barack Obama doesn't think we should kill Osama Bin Laden.

Barack Obama: I won't martyr Osama bin Laden
By Alex Spillius in Washington

Seeking to portray himself as tough enough to be commander-in-chief, the Democratic presidential candidate warned that there was an executive order dating back to Bill Clinton's presidency that allowed the CIA to kill bin Laden if capture was not an option.

"If I'm president, and we have the opportunity to capture him, we may not be able to capture him alive," he said.

Though he refused to detail what approach he would take to bring bin Laden to justice, he sought to show a more sympathetic American face to the world when he described the Nuremberg trials of Nazi leaders as an exemplar of sound victors' justice.

"What would be important would be for us to do it in a way that allows the entire world to understand the murderous acts that he's engaged in and not to make him into a martyr, and to assure that the United States government is abiding by basic conventions that would strengthen our hand in the broader battle against terrorism," he said.

Mr Obama was speaking as he unveiled a new team of national security advisers that included several ex-Clinton heavyweights who had lent their support to Hillary Clinton during her battle with the Illinois senator for the party's nomination, including former Secretary of States Madeleine Albright and Warren Christopher.

In an interview he meanwhile hinted that he may retain Robert Gates, George W Bush's defence secretary, who has taken the sort of pragmatic approach to the job that Mr Obama admires.

He told Time.com that "I'd certainly be interested in the sort of people who served in the first Bush administration." Mr Gates was Bush the elder's CIA director.

Sept. 10 mindset? Yeah, Sept. 10 -- 1979.

Muslim countries win concession regarding religious debates

UN body says only religious scholars should be allowed to discuss
matters of faith

GENEVA: Muslim countries have won a battle to prevent Islam from being criticised during debates by the UN Human Rights Council. Religions deserve special protection because any debate about faith is bound to be “very complex, very sensitive and very intense”, council President Doru-Romulus Costea said Wednesday.

While Costea’s ban applies to all religions, it was prompted by Muslim countries complaining about references to Islam.

Costea issued his “presidential ruling” on Monday during the eighth meeting of the council’s 47 members, which do not include the United States. The ruling will not affect findings by the council’s experts, just its chamber debates.

On Monday Egypt, Pakistan and Iran angrily protested attempts by a humanist group to link Islam to human rights abuses such as female genital mutilation and so-called honour killing of women. The interventions sparked a heated debate which threatened to sour the mood of the meeting. The council’s resolutions carry no legal weight but are intended to throw a spotlight on governments that abuse their citizens.

“This council is not prepared to discuss religious matters in depth, consequently we should not do it,” Costea ruled after an emergency break to calm the situation.

Of course, it's still open season on Israel at the UNHRC. Obviously, the ban doesn't apply to that!

Ive seen two in my neighborhood this spring

We've see coyotes in our neighborhood, as well as fisher cats.
Something made some strange noises late at night a couple of days ago. Made everyone look out. I didn't see anything but called in the two dogs that were out. But probably anything smaller tha a bear would avoid a 50 lb and a 60 lb poodle.

I have seen coyote droppings in our yard. But I figure we really don't have a coyote problem
