Pat Buchanan on Fox News Again

If Fox News is trying to sabotage the GOP, this is a terrific way to do it.
Where have you gone, William F. Buckley?

Buchanan did one good thing: he did keep The Goracle from winning Florida.
Otherwise, his expiration date is way past.

Exactly. There is a reason why MSNBC has been using him as the voice of conservatism in their "coverage" of events for years. It isn't a good one, so far as conservatism is concerned.

One of the Saudi princes has an influential stake (more than 12% ownership) in Fox News.
I expect that an anti-Jewish commentator will be a persistent and welcomed feature on that channel - it's all so "Fair and Balanced" of course.
Even better that Pat Buchanan is labeled as a "conservative" and can sow confusion into the infidel ranks.

I rarely turn my TV on. I turned it on last week for 30 minutes, and ended up watching the History Channel while I ate dinner. I'm not sure which made me more sick: the History Channel or my dinner. In any case, I turned it off and am doing my part to save energy by not turning it on again for a long time. If I want news, I will go to Fox's website.
Mostly; I don't want news. My mind is like a computer: garbage-in=garbage out. The more I leave it turned off the smarter I become.
I am now listening to a some classical piano music and LGF'ing. Soon I will do something even smarter and crawl into bed. Its amazing how liberating it is to turn OFF the TV, and leave it off.
I strongly encourage my fellow lizards to also turn off the TV and become smarter.

Conservatism needs a nap.
Conservatism does not need a nap. Conservatism needs some balls. It needs the balls to tell Pat Pukakanan to blow it out his posterior and leave the GOP and conservatives the hell alone.
The world would have been done a hell of a favor if Bush had appointed him the governor of the Farallon Islands or some other such godforsaken hell'n'gone to keep him out of our hair. (only half joking.)
Seriously, every time that poor excuse of a man opens his trap and says something awful, the RNC should put out a press release expressing how happy the Party is that Pat Buchanan abandoned the party to run against Bush in 2000, and that the party is much better off without him.

FWIW, I think McCain's taking public money is going to work in his favor for at least two reasons:
1. ALL of the polls I've read so far (if you go deep enough into them) have show that McCains' "Trust" factor is significantly higher that is Obama's. This move by McCain can only add to that, and I'll continue to believe that Americans will vote for, ultimately, the candidate that they can trust.
2. Obama would have had waaay more money than McCain even if McCain had also turned away
public funding.

re: #66 realwest
Actually I think it was in the late 1980's. Buchanan was a fierce anti-communist and Cold Warrior and, as long as that was Pat's main concern, he fit in w/ the conservative movement as a whole. Buchanan was not particularly hostile to Israel as long as they were pro-US and their enemies were pro-USSR.
Once the Cold War was over, minor differences became a sizeable rift, and the first place it showed up was in the attitude toward Israel. Buckley was convinced that Buchanan's views were not merely "criticisms of Israeli policy," but anti-semitic. At that point Buchanan had not shown his cards the way he has now, BTW, and many thought Buckley was possibly over-reacting. W/in a few years Buckley was more than vindicated, as we all know.
I remember following the controversy in National Review back then. Perhaps some other lizards do as well.

Short answer: Yes.
They are both the same special kind of ignorant, ueber-patriotic, isolationist, classically wrong-headed type of demagogue who's ideas date to the era roughly bracketed by William of Orange and Woodwow Wilson. They couple an admirable faith in the United States as an idea, with bigotry and foolishness that wouldn't be out of place at a KKK barbecue. They've gone so far 'round the bend we don't know what road they're on. They're so far right that they've gone left, and vice versa, and the only thing we're sure of is that precious few of their ideas would actually work in the real world.

Just give them the 5 minute run-down of all of his nonsense, and show them a clip or two including that 52 second anti military screed. While you are at it show them 2 or 3 pictures of the Twin Towers, intact and during and after. Common sense will prevail.

This nonsense about how WW2 was unnecessary?! What a crock. Hitler laid it all out in Mein Kampf. Germany needed Lebensraum, and the way to get it was to conquer Russia, kill off the Russians or enslave them, and re-people the place with Herrenvolk.
Now with that for an agenda, the Russians had no options. You can't cut a deal---how about if we just give you Russia up to the Arctic circle, and you let us keep Murmansk? Thinking in wider circles, what is Britain supposed to do? Stand aside? Her turn will come, and when it does, she won't have any chance at all.
What is the U.S. supposed to do? That sort of megalomaniac agenda has no end point we could have accepted. The only real possibilities, from where things stood in 1936, were war sooner, with better odds and lower casualties, or war later, with worse odds and heavier casualties.
So why is Buchanan pushing this book? An analogy comes to mind. Poland=Israel. And one more clue, one that Buchanan might not quite twig to: Daladier=Buchanan.

But for the six years before Britain declared war, there was no Holocaust, and for two years after the war began, there was no Holocaust.
Not until midwinter 1942 was the Wannsee Conference held, where the Final Solution was on the table.
And why did Hitler invade Russia? This writer quotes Hitler 10 times as saying that only by knocking out Russia could he convince Britain it could not win and must end the war.
This was just posted today on Buchanan's website.... pure crap!

If you want to understand WW2, and I mean really have an insight kind of understanding, see Downfall. The last survivor from the bunker insists that the movie overplayed a lot of things for drama, but Bruno Ganz' Hitler illustrates the man better than most history texts, IMO. Germany is ruined, the world is burning, everything is lost, and the man sits at his desk and tells his people "Well, at least I killed the Jews." He really was a broken soul, and a true believer in his own special destiny.
Also instructive would be a bit of study directed towards guys like Henry Ford, or Joe Kennedy, who approved of, or accomodated, the very same madman.

Pat Buchanan is not conservative, he is right wing.
The right wing is to conservative as the left wing is to liberal. The two "wings" are generally authoritarian versions of their ideological cousins, and are able to hide among the libs and cons because they have some beliefs in common, and they often use the same language as their hosts. But you'll find they often are aiming for a vastly different outcome despite their surface similarities.

He loved his idea of Germans, but not the actual people, who in any case needed his prescriptions to be purified and made new. In the end, he would have liked to see them all dead.
He is a fascinating psychological subject.
I think we are actually educated not to think too deeply about the implications of a guy like Hitler. Our schooling just labels him Evil, he was a bad guy, he blew up Europe and killed people in camps, next chapter... I think that's a mistake.
If you study him as a human, as a person with ideas, ambitions, dreams (such as they were) and desires just like the rest of us, you learn to see very dark, troubling patterns in certain kinds of thinking. When you see that he was essentially a true leftist, the culmination of everything born in the French Revolution, mob violence refined and distilled into a terrible, beautifully honed mechanized spearpoint, a Romantic in the worst possible sense, a nihilist and an annihilator, a guy who's chief characteristic was to slash and burn when he didn't get his way, and the apogee of the impulse that gives us Rousseau, Marx, Lenin, Franco, Stalin, etc... That impulse that says "If these fools won't see it my way, I'll set fire to the whole damned thing"... The whole false construct of "Left vs. Right" falls away, and you see the two poles of human vision, Rational vs. Romantic, laid bare.
The TV news will never be the same once you know this. It's quite stunning, and frankly I think being able to decode political ideas in these terms is something that the elites don't want. Elites being, in our society, anybody with influence to use or sell (that would be politicians and the media). Once you learn to smell out the Romantic impulse, the beating heart of every kill-all-the-productive-people, make-everybody-equally-miserable, wallet-frisking, Jew-burning, glass-breaking, accountability-erasing, judgement-blurring crackpot Theory of Everything put forth by our so-called "betters", the bottom line can't be hidden anymore.
And they hate that. They really hate that. Which is why the reality of dictatorship is something that is actively discouraged. Hell, these days they only teach "1984" because it can be spun as anti-Republican...

The key to winning this year will be for our side to personally convince all of the "common sense" democrats that we know that obama is a farce.
Just give them the 5 minute run-down of all of his nonsense, and show them a clip or two including that 52 second anti military screed. While you are at it show them 2 or 3 pictures of the Twin Towers, intact and during and after. Common sense will prevail.Never underestimate the curtain.
Yes....if that video gets wide play, it's curtains for Obama. If the RNC doesn't play that thing over and over again in September and October, well ,they really are the stupid party.

The result of the GOP obsession with abortion above all other issues.....
1-The GOP is far less obsessive about that issue than the Democrats. GOP leaders hold widely divergent views on the subject and the party leaders do not smack people out of the party for this. Unlike the Dems, they do not insist on strict conformity to one view. (You may remember than Gov Bob Casey of PA was never allowed to speak at a Dem convention as punishment for being pro-life.)
2- The abortion issue has not been a point of focus for either party this year.
3-Pat Buchanan is not a member of the Republican Party. He left it in 2000 and has not rejoined it.

Of course, the other side of that coin is that while you get essentially nine months of summer, I get nine months, sometimes ten months of winter.
I like the rain. It clears the air, which was the main reason why I moved here. My allergies were making it impossible for me to live in San Jose any longer. I was sick constantly.
Seattle is the land of the long winter. If you like the rain, it can be a very nice place to live. If not, well, this place is not for everybody.
If nothing else, it's good for summer vacations. Give it some thought. Check out the EMP.

re: #200 Pawn of the Oppressor
Read "For Your Own Good". Don't remember the author at the moment. It is a psychological dissection of three people in Germany that lived in the 1920's. One was Adolph and another was a serial killer. Don't remember the third. I am away from home at the present time and don't have access to the book. Goes into the culture in which they were raised. Late 1800's and early 1900's had what was known as "Schwartze Pedogogy" (sp). The basic premise was that you beat all sense of individuality out of a child and programed them with the responses you wanted. Used by the Nazi's in schools to weed out the morally weak as they considered them. Good Nazi's were not to be afraid of killing anyone, including relatives.
Lots of background info in books on that era If you can find them. One edition of Mein Kampf was printed in an edited version for the US. Differed from the German edition in the detailed future plans. Also, "Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" is a good source of detail.
Read the novels of Erich Maria Remarque for background on that era. Reading any book published in that era can be a mind trip into the twilight zone.

Great post.
I would have thrown Mao, Pol Pot, or Castro in there instead of Franco though.
Franco was not an ideologue. He was a professional soldier. He used the Falange but as soon as he got power he refused to share any of it with them. He was often brutal and ruthless and he had a huge ego, but he hated progressive dreaming, whether of the "left" or the "right." He was a reactionary whose only transcendent allegiances were to God Church, country, and military honor.
He was no bundle of joy, but he was no scorched earth utopian either.

Geez, what an asshole. Buchanan is NO conservative. Brit Hume represents the "Fox News Channel"...the rest of it is entertainment and opinion.
I don't believe in conspiracy...but I do believe in "pressure". Gibson made a mistake with his comment about Ledger...and paid for it by being removed from the TV. The had already watered him down with the addition of Heather. I personally think they wanted him to go...too many Islamic negative references.
ED Hill was put on hiatus last month for her comment about the terrorist fist. She was the most outspoken in the Fox and Friends morning show and was axed from that...after the buy in by the Saudi. She may have been out of line, but believe me when I say things have changed at that station...before she could have mispoke and moved on after an appology. Now, she gets removed...and who is politically correct?
And O'Reilly has become a PC individual with his stupid logic about this and that. Looks like he is always trying to balance what is evil to make it appear less so. Just me I am sure.
The addition of Buchanan is weird. He is everywhere...like he is working 24 hourse a day for the channel. Something distasteful going on...an agenda that has nothing to do with conservatives or Republicans...
I trust Brit Hume. The rest fall way far off the scale of believability any more.
Where are the adult programs where issues are discussed with the time needed to discuss them?...instead of 5 minutes on a topic and some idiots screaming their opinion regardless of fact for most of it? And I cannot believe that Skelator actually believes all he apparently defends....if so, he is dumber then a pine post. And Hannity isn't much better...he whines. Just constant throwing out of who said what, gotcha. No real analysis, facts, information.

Some of you people that say Pat is a leftist have lost there minds. Not wanting to protect Israel over anything else doesn't mean your for the left or a liberal.
We don't want Pat to protect Israel. What Buchanan wants is to throw the Jews of Israel to the wolves. He is a ***** bastard!

Thanks. I would love to see Charles Krauthammer or Victor Davis Hanson debate Buchanan and his paleocon Hitler Youth alumni friends at his wrongly name drag "The American Conservative."

That is the problem with labels- you end up being compared to everyone who has or is given the same label. Buchanan is a hateful bastard(so we will only compare him to others given that label now)

If you ever read Buchanan's magazine (it is as painful a read as watching Keith Olbermann's spew fest "Countdown" - outside of his opposition to all non white immigrants, you would think you are reading Katrina vanden Heuvel's Marxist magazine "The Nation."

Buchanan reminds me of George McGovern
Taat old Marxist buzzard is still alive. The man who ruined the Democratic Party.

I sent that stupid Hannity a scathing email. The man, and several other talk show turds seem to be pushing for an Obama victory and dreaming of the big conservative landslide of 2012. He's such a fool
Correctamundo. There will be no 1994 for the GOP. Even if McCain wins, he is such a wishy-washy Republican the GOP will descend into minority status b/c that doddering old fool would rather laugh with the Democrats while sticking his thumb in conservatives eyes. Thank you very much GOP primary voters - the stupidest people in America. I can't wait for them to nominate Jeb Bush in 2012. /sarcasm

Only thing really worth watching is Brit Hume.
With Geraldo, Greta van Sustern and Alan Colmes ,Fox is almost a joke.
Although...Megyn Kelly is nice on the eyes.
Let's not forget Kirsten Powers and smoking hot Julie Banderas.
Alan Colmes is a real nancy boy.

Buckley also got rid of Joseph Sobran. Sobran was so anti Semitic (he still is) that he makes Pat Buchanan seem like David Ben-Gurion.

The GOP Establishment (think Bush Sr, the execrable Trent Lott, Bill Frist et al) prefers an orderly line of succession to the nomination. That is how we got Bob Dole (although his take down of Scott McClellan was priceless), G W Bush, John McCain, etc., the Establishment will try to foist Jeb on us in 2012 pointing out how popular a governor he was in Florida and how he could bring all the millions of newly created Hispanic citizens into the GOP, yeah right! They think that because of the Obama disaster of a Presidency the country will have seen the light and will go back to what was in the past - the Presidency which gave us Alberto Gonzales, Karen Hughes, Scott McClellan, Condi Clueless Rice, Harriet Miers, Colin Powell, Michael Brown.

Was the Holocaust Inevitable?

Some people want to make right with God before they die, seems Buchanon wants to get it on the record that he did all he could to excuse Hitler.

I can't quite decide if Buchanan wants to help start the final war with the hidden Iman -or- if he wants the Arab states to jump on Israel so the US can go in and claim the whole region...
/can there be a cold war during global warming?
I dinged you but that was probably a little harsh. Buchanan may be a lot of things, but he's not an imperialist. He's merely an old-style antisemite.

And yet he is trotted out on talk shows as the token "conservative" or Republican. HE IS NOT A REPUBLICAN! The other douchbag is Taki, the doddering old anti-Semite and fellow editor of the stinking magazine that Buchanan is with.

OMG, they keep this creep in suspended animation in a temperature controlled crypt, and wheel him from his base @ MSNBC to wherever he is to appear next; apply sunlight proof makeup and awaken him for his comments.
If he is reviled on the left and reviled on the right, and he sure as heck doesn't speak for main Street, then exactly what constituency are they seeking by allowing him on air? How many Nazi-symp, anti-Jew, pro Pat people are there in both Fox Noise Channel and MostSuckyNewsBureauChannel? Must be a bigger demographic than we know!
