Pat Buchanan on Fox News Again

Thu, Jun 19, 2008 at 9:04:12 pm PST

Yes, again.

If Fox News is trying to sabotage the GOP, this is a terrific way to do it.

Where have you gone, William F. Buckley?

Otherwise, his expiration date is way past.

Exactly. There is a reason why MSNBC has been using him as the voice of conservatism in their "coverage" of events for years. It isn't a good one, so far as conservatism is concerned.

One of the Saudi princes has an influential stake (more than 12% ownership) in Fox News.

I expect that an anti-Jewish commentator will be a persistent and welcomed feature on that channel - it's all so "Fair and Balanced" of course.

Even better that Pat Buchanan is labeled as a "conservative" and can sow confusion into the infidel ranks.

I rarely turn my TV on. I turned it on last week for 30 minutes, and ended up watching the History Channel while I ate dinner. I'm not sure which made me more sick: the History Channel or my dinner. In any case, I turned it off and am doing my part to save energy by not turning it on again for a long time. If I want news, I will go to Fox's website.

Mostly; I don't want news. My mind is like a computer: garbage-in=garbage out. The more I leave it turned off the smarter I become.

I am now listening to a some classical piano music and LGF'ing. Soon I will do something even smarter and crawl into bed. Its amazing how liberating it is to turn OFF the TV, and leave it off.

I strongly encourage my fellow lizards to also turn off the TV and become smarter.

Conservatism does not need a nap. Conservatism needs some balls. It needs the balls to tell Pat Pukakanan to blow it out his posterior and leave the GOP and conservatives the hell alone.

The world would have been done a hell of a favor if Bush had appointed him the governor of the Farallon Islands or some other such godforsaken hell'n'gone to keep him out of our hair. (only half joking.)

Seriously, every time that poor excuse of a man opens his trap and says something awful, the RNC should put out a press release expressing how happy the Party is that Pat Buchanan abandoned the party to run against Bush in 2000, and that the party is much better off without him.

FWIW, I think McCain's taking public money is going to work in his favor for at least two reasons:
1. ALL of the polls I've read so far (if you go deep enough into them) have show that McCains' "Trust" factor is significantly higher that is Obama's. This move by McCain can only add to that, and I'll continue to believe that Americans will vote for, ultimately, the candidate that they can trust.
2. Obama would have had waaay more money than McCain even if McCain had also turned away
public funding.

98 wolfie  6/19/08 9:46:53 pm reply quote 2

re: #66 realwest

Actually I think it was in the late 1980's. Buchanan was a fierce anti-communist and Cold Warrior and, as long as that was Pat's main concern, he fit in w/ the conservative movement as a whole. Buchanan was not particularly hostile to Israel as long as they were pro-US and their enemies were pro-USSR.

Once the Cold War was over, minor differences became a sizeable rift, and the first place it showed up was in the attitude toward Israel. Buckley was convinced that Buchanan's views were not merely "criticisms of Israeli policy," but anti-semitic. At that point Buchanan had not shown his cards the way he has now, BTW, and many thought Buckley was possibly over-reacting. W/in a few years Buckley was more than vindicated, as we all know.
I remember following the controversy in National Review back then. Perhaps some other lizards do as well.

Short answer: Yes.

They are both the same special kind of ignorant, ueber-patriotic, isolationist, classically wrong-headed type of demagogue who's ideas date to the era roughly bracketed by William of Orange and Woodwow Wilson. They couple an admirable faith in the United States as an idea, with bigotry and foolishness that wouldn't be out of place at a KKK barbecue. They've gone so far 'round the bend we don't know what road they're on. They're so far right that they've gone left, and vice versa, and the only thing we're sure of is that precious few of their ideas would actually work in the real world.

re: #92 NY Nana

So help me, we could have a contest to see who Colmes most resembles in LOTR...my kids know all about it, but I really do not.

Lizards, any suggestions?

Golem.

BTW, white house white was a typo. I cut and pasted it.

Then ask that it be deleted!

I don't know about Colmes but lots of people have said that Carville looks like Gollum.

Obama has the anti-American billionaire George Soros behind him, plus most of the newspapers and television stations and NPR. We only have a few papers, Fox News and Conservative Talk-radio, and common sense.

The key to winning this year will be for our side to personally convince all of the "common sense" democrats that we know that obama is a farce.
Just give them the 5 minute run-down of all of his nonsense, and show them a clip or two including that 52 second anti military screed. While you are at it show them 2 or 3 pictures of the Twin Towers, intact and during and after. Common sense will prevail.

Never underestimate the curtain.

I strongly encourage my fellow lizards to also turn off the TV and become smarter.

I would require a 12-step program..I used to, as a kid, watch test patterns, as TV was not 24-hours a day.

Not really.

Actually, Colmes doesn't resemble any LOTR character. Not even Grima Wormtongue.

This nonsense about how WW2 was unnecessary?! What a crock. Hitler laid it all out in Mein Kampf. Germany needed Lebensraum, and the way to get it was to conquer Russia, kill off the Russians or enslave them, and re-people the place with Herrenvolk.

Now with that for an agenda, the Russians had no options. You can't cut a deal---how about if we just give you Russia up to the Arctic circle, and you let us keep Murmansk? Thinking in wider circles, what is Britain supposed to do? Stand aside? Her turn will come, and when it does, she won't have any chance at all.

What is the U.S. supposed to do? That sort of megalomaniac agenda has no end point we could have accepted. The only real possibilities, from where things stood in 1936, were war sooner, with better odds and lower casualties, or war later, with worse odds and heavier casualties.

So why is Buchanan pushing this book? An analogy comes to mind. Poland=Israel. And one more clue, one that Buchanan might not quite twig to: Daladier=Buchanan.

Huh?

Ted appears only in the Scouring of the Shire, and he's a watchman; he doesn't sound like Colmes, he sounds confused.

It also explains why all the polls were SO WRONG about Kerry v. Bush in 2004. I do believe that rational people ulitmately pull the lever the the candidate in whom they feel they can place the most trust.

But for the six years before Britain declared war, there was no Holocaust, and for two years after the war began, there was no Holocaust.
Not until midwinter 1942 was the Wannsee Conference held, where the Final Solution was on the table.
