FISA Amendment Passes, Lefties Go Nuts

Fri, Jun 20, 2008 at 10:08:36 am PDT

The House has passed an amendment immunizing telecommunications companies against lawsuits based on their participation in the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), and the Daily Kos Kidz are having a gigantic meltdown: Daily Kos: BREAKING: House Dems suck off Repugs. Again.

UPDATE at 6/20/08 10:19:42 am:

It’s just a bad day all around for moonbats. The Iraq war funding bill also sailed through the House.

That popping sound you hear is millions of moonbat heads exploding.

re: #9 ninjadan

FISA - the Federal Intelligence Surveillance Act, enables the government to use national intelligence means to gather intel on all manner of sources, including communications coming into the US from foreign countries. The telecoms were helping out, and ACLU and others filed suit to stop it. An amendment was offered up to give them immunity, and that's held up passage. The version passed provides immunity of a sort - since the AG's office can basically say that the telecoms were acting under authorization of the President for the period involved.

All this stems from the fact that the FISA courts didn't operate as efficiently as necessary to allow intel gathering in an efficient and timely manner post 9/11.

Echelon is a system used by the United States National Security Agency (NSA) to intercept and process international communications passing via communications satellites. It is one part of a global surveillance systems that is now over 50 years old. Other parts of the same system intercept messages from the Internet, from undersea cables, from radio transmissions, from secret equipment installed inside embassies, or use orbiting satellites to monitor signals anywhere on the earth's surface. The system includes stations run by Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, in addition to those operated by the United States. Although some Australian and British stations do the same job as America's Echelon sites, they are not necessarily called "Echelon" stations. But they all form part of the same integrated global network using the same equipment and methods to extract information and intelligence illicitly from millions of messages every day, all over the world.

re: #79 LeftJustAintRight

The deal is that it's a political tactic in order to raise awareness on things that's not relevant at all. But right now, the democrat's have been trying to exploit people's "anger" at the telecoms for allowing it until they're in the clear to finally shut down the frivolous lawsuits.

Moonbat brains flying about? Well, that explains the smell of poo.

I think the immunity clause for the telecomm companies is being applied retroactively in this case. I thought thats how I heard it on the radio this morning.

And the underage girls they then have to transport across state lines to clean up their "issues." Or the High price ones they pay.

It's actually illegal to use information on any other criminal activity discovered by accident in any of these phone taps. Only stuff relevant to the investigation at hand.

Yes, he will vote against it. He needs to secure the krazy kos kidz' votes. If they're actually relevant.

,

How many people on terrorist watch lists do you call in Pakistan? That's really the only people who have to worry about this anyway.

My liberal co-workers are convinced that this sort of thing (along with the Patriot Act) is really some sort of police-state tactic by Herr Bush to stop all personal freedoms, which I suppose includes the freedom to talk to terrorists.

And yes, I am well aware I know individuals who have the reasoning abilities of a hamster on crack.

I never cease to be amazed at how absolutely partisan the Democrats have come. It does not matter if a bill is good for this country, if it has anything to do with Republicans or Bush it must be defeated at all costs. Imagine if KosKidz were actually members of Congress...wow C-Span might actually be entertaining to watch...

C-Span would than have to be X-Rated.

LOL!

This is off topic. There was a pledged Hillary delegate on Fox this morning. She is from Wisconsin, I believe last name, Amblet.
She organized a web call among other Hillary delegates to support McCain. She thinks that Barry is to extreme.
Here's a shocker, the Obama campaign & left blogs have branded her a racist. There have been death threats against her & her children.
Don't mess with the lightworker!

Oh, please. According to the Obamessiah, Murtha has too much military experience for VP. If he claims McCain does, then Murtha certainly does.

If he does, he'll just be handing us more ammo. :-)

Liberals say such disgusting things, they don't want the government to hear how much they really do hate America - hence the fear of surveillance.

I have to disagree with your premise. I do not like the "authorities" snooping around me either, for privacy reasons, and because it is a violation of my rights, and a reduction of my freedom. The Funding Fathers would probably all be in prison within a year in the current societal situation. Make no mistake, they would be labeled as nuts' rebels, and agitators and hauled off to prison because they would not stand for the government usurping the rights of it's citizens like the government has for the last 50 years. Do you really think the Constitution gives the government the power to tell you what light bulbs you can use. Do you think the government has the authority to define thought crimes and prosecute people for what they decide they might be thinking?

Hah that's good for a laugh. And last night I read John Edwards was a possibility too. That's a sure fire way for Obama to do well...pick a fringe member of Congress to be your running mate...so they can guarantee you...what...the Populist vote?

Considering he's the most liberal Senator in the senate, I really doubt he will bother to try and do that. He's got the media in his pockets to try and help label him as a "moderate".
