Britain Foils Plot to Deliver Tasty Recipes, Lively Home Decoration Concepts

Fri, Jun 20, 2008 at 12:27:23 pm PDT

They may be letting Al Qaeda leader Abu Qatada out of jail, but at least the British government has thwarted a far greater threat: Martha Stewart ‘barred from UK’.

Good to see their priorities in order. How many people do you have to kill before the UK will let you in?

American lifestyle guru Martha Stewart has been refused a visa to enter Britain because of her convictions in the US, according to reports.

Convicted about lying about a non-crime......

11 pegcity  Fri, Jun 20, 2008 12:30:33pm

Maybe she should pledge to kill some kafir and replace Democracy with Shariah law, that seems to be a sure fire way to get the British Government to allow you asylum

12 OldLineTexan  Fri, Jun 20, 2008 12:30:47pm

Are infidels (assuming Martha is an infidel) allowed to decorate/redecorate mosques?

Not only that, I am sure she could assist in some lively floral arrangements and better quality kitchen cutlery for the next round of snuff films produced by the RoP.

13 rawmuse  Fri, Jun 20, 2008 12:30:48pm

Crime does have some consequences, and they do have the right to admit to their country whomever they please. Apparently they have more tolerance for poisonous jihadis than for Martha. It is, as they say, a puzzlement.

20 lawhawk  Fri, Jun 20, 2008 12:33:13pm

Priorities.... the Brits can't be usurped by the Colonialist who offers up tasty treats and decorating tips that would put the Monarchy to shame.

Seriously though, this is pretty screwed up considering that they're letting Abu Qatada out of jail on the basis of a claim that he was convicted of terror crimes in Jordan and it would be dangerous for him to return to Jordan, but Stewart, whose criminality is of the white collar variety, is barred from entering the country.

23 JohnnyReb  Fri, Jun 20, 2008 12:34:41pm

You know, only 68 years ago, the British had some serious stones. Two generations is all it took them to completely wimp out. And it will happen here in the US too, unless we say no more.

25 Sharmuta  Fri, Jun 20, 2008 12:35:46pm

I came to respect Martha more for serving her time. She could have fought it, spent tax payer dollars by utilizing the court system, but she took it like a champ. She did the right thing, even though I thought it was all BS.

So- what's her reward for being honorable? The UK wants to pull more BS on her, as if her own country's BS wasn't enough.

If they'd really rather have jihadis wandering their streets instead of Martha- they really need to get a grip on their priorities.

You're nuts, England.

What's worse in her case and it's similar to Libby case. The primary investigation concluded no securities crimes had taken place and the matter should have been dropped. Her perjury came after the determination that no crime had been committed.

29 zombie  Fri, Jun 20, 2008 12:36:27pm

I don't know much about Martha Stewart and have never seen her on TV, but this is sheer insanity.

The British will release from jail and allow to stay in the country a known convicted mass-murdering terrorist;

But they will bar from the country a celebrity chef for the heinous infraction of "lying to investigators about a share sale," which, at the very worst could rise to the level of being considered petty theft.

Hmmm, who is more of a threat to Britain?

Truly suicidal multiculturalism. They let in all kinds of islamic hate preachers who would not even be allowed to be free in their own home countries because they are too radical and can't deport them because of "human rights" concerns (they actually petition the govt on these concerns to avoid deportation) and then British taxpayers actually have to pay them welfare. Meanwhile they preach hate to kill those people that support them. But Martha Stewart! now these is a dangerous radical that must be barred. Pathetic!

The British Navy isn't even allowed to challenge Somali pirates anymore because any captured pirates might be able to claim asylum in Britain. The country went around the bend years ago, sadly.

Yeah - I can tell you the exact date this country went round the bend:
May 1997, when Tony Blair won the elections and became Prime Minster, with all his cronies from NuLab.

Don't be in any doubt that this is exactly what will happen to your great country if Obamanation gets elected.

That's the little popup widget that shows up between the ads in the right sidebar. It has dozens of news sites and blogs in it -- and the LGF code picks a random one from the list to display when the page is loaded.

It's like News Roulette.

Ah, OK! So, RSS feeds, like, turn a blog into a mini wire-service? Interesting. I've seen the term, but never looked into it.

I already feel like an entire one-person news network, so being a wire service as well is no extra burden!

I have told people with earnest honesty that Barack Obama is a different kind of politician. I have done so while holding a significant volunteer position with this campaign.

I will have a hard time continuing to do this if Barack Obama doesn't take a stand on this issue. It shakes my confidence for him to aid in the shameful and disgusting capitulation of the Democratic congress on the FISA bill. Buzz, I knew a guy who ran an art gallery out of his home. He specialized in prints: lithos, aquatints, all sorts of things. But he had some paintings, too. Published his own catalogue with solicited essays, very high quality, and apparently made a good side business out of it. It was in a big old Victorian house in a casual neighborhood. I loved going there, but every time I left, I regretted not knocking off a bank so I could walk out of there with a Durer, Turner, Picasso, Braque, Miro, and all the rest of them. Just a small thing. Nothing big. I could've sold more blood.

Yeah. Years ago an Econ professor asked me what my favorite kind of beer was (he was going to make a cutsy example about supply and demand), but I said "free" beer and so he got flummoxed and went to the next student.

The next student nodded and said, "I gotta go with free beer, too."

The professor decided to use his own brand in the example.

I don't think any of her doctors actually announced anything. In fact, I don't think her doctors were worried about TB. Some British tabloids merely noted that Amy was losing weight and coughing up blood, noted that these are sometimes symptoms of TB, lied a little and said that doctors were concerned about this, and thereby started a big rumor.

Here's the Daily Mail's latest on the subject: Amy Winehouse 'doesn't have tuberculosis, just a chest infection'

I hope Amy's okay. She sure doesn't look okay. One can't live for long, the way she's living.

Exploding heads overwhelm DKos today.

I think there's a lot of Gen-Y action around the Obama campaign. Many members of generation Y consider themselves special magical snowflakes, each deserving of intense attention and reverence. The whole "everybody gets a trophy for being here" thing. Already one recurring theme is "I gave hundreds of dollars and Barack Obama is not taking my personal calls!" Not receiving individualized ministrations from the Obamessiah is like getting doused with an icy bucket of reality - they react, and not well.

The fact that I feel sympathy for her--because I think she has been mistreated by being denied entry into the UK--makes me feel conflicted and confused by my emotions, which is strange, because I am a sleestak.

236 abu_garcia  Fri, Jun 20, 2008 2:22:40pm
it opposed the entry to the UK of anyone convicted of "serious criminal offences abroad

One must understood, "serious crimes" are crimes agains the authority of the STATE. Assault, rape, robbery, and murder are just incidental acts against individuals, therefore of lesser import.

Don't think so? Check the sentences handed out, both here and there.

Martha Stewart went to jail
For cheating in the market
Her cell was much too boring so

Martha Stewart fix it up
Your cell is much to dreary
Tape some pictures to the walls
And make it much more cheery

In the mess hall Martha found
The food was not too tasty
She taught the cooks some brand new tricks
And now they're eating pastry

Are convicts foreign allowed into the US?

I mean - aside from the terrorists you are extending constitutional rights to?

I only ask, because on my flight into DC a couple of weeks ago, I was wondering what would happen if I accidentally ticked the wrong box on the green card that us Gaijins have to fill in whenever we visit:

Have you ever within the past 10 years been a prostitute or procured anyone for prostitution, or intend to engage in such activities in the future? Illicitly trafficked in any controlled substance, or knowingly assisted, abetted or colluded in the illicit trafficking of any controlled substance?

Have you ever engaged in, conspired to engage in, or do you intend to engage in, or have you ever solicited membership or funds for, or have you through any means ever assisted or provided any type of material support to, any person or organization that has ever engaged or conspired to engage, in sabotage, kidnapping, political assassination, hijacking or any other form of terrorist activity?

erm...sure - who hasn't?

Did you, during the period from March 23, 1933 to May 8, 1945, in association with either the Nazi Government of Germany or any organization or government associated or allied with the Nazi Government of Germany, ever order, incite, assist or otherwise participate in the persecution of any person because of race, religion, national origin or political opinion?

Have you ever engaged in genocide, or otherwise ordered, incited, assisted or otherwise participated in the killing of any person because of race, religion, nationality, ethnic origin or political opinion.

Seriously, who gives a damn how he entertains himself in prison, with no hands? Maybe he can stick finger puppets on his toes. Better than letting him run around outside of prison, cooking up more plots.

If Qatada murders anyone, if he masterminds a terrorist attack that kills hundreds, maybe even thousands---well, I'm sure Britain will simply explain that they couldn't keep him in jail, or deport him back to Jordan because, well, Jordan tortures people! (And they're considered one of the more moderate Islamic states, by the way.)

(Who knows, maybe they're trying to find a way to imprison her, or even deport her to Jordan---hey, terrorists are one thing, but American fashion pundits who might have diddled with stocks are quite another!)

(Who knows, she might even have been able to help Captain Hook entertain himself, even though he has no hands---teach him to decorate cakes, or knit, using his feet!)

Er, sorry you got your knickers in a twist about the green card, but our officials can't just look at your honest British face and magically know that you're okay. Were you expecting them to roll out a red carpet for you, or something? Considering that Britain has become such a center for terrorism lately, I'm surprised they didn't ask you more. When my husband and I honeymooned in Britiain, many, many years ago, we had to answer the same sort of thing, as well as 'fessing up to the fact we're both of Irish descent.

My husband also got stopped by a rather menacing British policeman at one point, because he bore a slight resemblance to a wanted IRA terrorist who was on the run at the moment. Ah, the cruel way Britain treats us Gaijuns. . .

Yeah, efforts over here to extend constitutional rights to terrorists are pretty silly---as is the British habit of keeping them on the dole, even the ones with multiple wives, as well as its inability to deport them, or even keep them in jail.

The judiciary are acting like God in their deliberation of their own personal, isolated, Liberalistic opinions. it is time for this class of persons to be brought into the "real world" where we have to live with their pathetic decisions.

The fear of the Islamic Fundamantalist vandal is real and growing in our great country. Over 70% of the public agreed with the 42 day detention of terrorism suspects.

We are at last waking up to the insidious threat of Islam. We now need to New Labour/Tory/Liberal apologists and judiciary to do the same.

Two simple phrases when working in the coal mining industry was " Either fit in or f... off", and "May your god give you double what you wish on others". Aimed specifically at the Islamic Fundamentalist moron these are very appropriate.

The Govt is extremely angry about this outcome, but unlike in some countries, it does not seek to control the Judiciary. Qatada will live under a 22-hour per day house arrest and communications ban; and you can bet your ass will be followed everywhere he goes during the other two.

Hooky waasn't 'running around free', he's been incarcerated in a High Security Prison for over four years. You really need to get your facts right and learn who your allies are.
