Video: 'Sandwiches That Can Kill You'

Fri, Jun 20, 2008 at 1:33:36 pm PDT

Some tasty Southern Beirut cuisine, courtesy of MEMRI TV. Broadcast on the terrorist propaganda channel Al-Manar, June 12, 2008.

Click picture to play video. Requires Windows Media Player; Mac users should install Flip4Mac.

Reporter: This is not a military post. Rather, it is a fast-food restaurant in the southern suburb of Beirut. The name of the restaurant and its appearance make all the people passing by stop, but the dishes it serves are bound to make people stay longer Kalashnikov, RPG, Dragunov, Viper, B52 are all examples of these dishes.

Yousef Ibrahim, restaurant owner: I felt this was a good idea. It attracts customers in an unconventional way. I noticed that the moment I opened the place, there was a lot of business. Despite the militaristic concept, whoever looks at the menu starts laughing. My goal was to make people laugh before they ask me: “Why weapons?” If I gave the sandwiches regular names, everything would be plain.

Reporter: High-quality bread is used in Western dishes, but what might “terrorist bread” be?
Yousef Ibrahim: “Terrorist bread” is like a large pita bread, which is made in a special way. Since we, in the Middle East, are at the hub of terrorism, we decided to serve “terrorist bread.”

Reporter: The restaurant’s slogan is “A sandwich might kill you,” because, as the owner says, its dishes are outstanding both in size and in taste. We chose the RPG sandwich - that is, chicken skewers – for lunch. How does it taste? Even though it has the name of a medium-range weapon, it is still nothing but a sandwich.

The question is, if you eat one of their sandwiches, do you felafel afterwards?

Hee hee.

Clearly my brain switched off at 5 PM, because now all I can think about is a hilarious Lebanese TV commercial based on Abbott and Costello's "who's on first" routine:

Al-Abbott: Would you like to eat the rest of my anti-personnel mine? I ate the first half, but I can't finish it.

Al-Costello: Oh, Al-Abbott, you must feel awful!

Al-Abbott: No, an anti-personnel mine.

Al-Costello: Right, that’s why you feel awful.

Al-Abbott: Certainly not, I hate falafel! That's the whole reason why I ordered mine.

Al-Costello: Oh, I see, you ordered falafel. But would you order a sandwich that you hate?

Al-Abbott: I don’t hate it, I love it. It’s just too big for me to finish.

Al-Costello: But didn’t you just say that you hate falafel?

Al-Abbott: Yes, I do. That’s why I decided to order mine!

Al-Costello (increasingly exasperated, turning red in the face): FIRST you tell me you ate half an anti-personnel mine. NOW you tell me you hate falafel, but you ordered one anyway. Will you PLEASE just tell me what you had for lunch today so we can get this over with?

Al-Abbott: Mine.

Al-Costello: Yours?

Al-Abbott: Of course.

Al-Costello: Your what?

Al-Abbott: Mine. Well, half a mine.

Al-Costello: Half of your what?

Al-Abbott: Half a mine.

Al-Costello: Half of your WHAT?

Al-Abbott: My sandwich, you maroon! Roasted goat with sundried tomatoes and arugula. Do you want some or not?

Al-Costello (now stomping up and down with frustration): Well why didn’t you just SAY SO in the first place? Of course I’ll finish your goat sandwich. I’m starving! While you were lollygagging around enjoying your lunch, I spent all morning out in the desert, killing Jewish children with my AK-47!

Al-Abbott: You were killing children with a turkey sub?

Al-Costello (furious, screaming at the top of his lungs): Why would Turkey give me a submarine, and how the hell would I get it into the desert anyway?

BS. Barack would not know how to pour it properly. I am fairly certain she dresses him as well.

I also see Michelle as even more control-freaky (that is NOT the good kind of freaky) than even Hillary. It's in her eyes...that smouldering gaze is not latent sexuality, it is anger.

my yorkie, if she eats too much get a hard round distended stomach

and is in pain

pepto bismol tab (1/8) helps her

is that normal for this brd?

No, not really. No dog should be painful after eating. I'd check with your vet on that.

Pepto is a good idea though in the meantime. Also don't feed her right after exercise. Bloat can be a life threatening condition. If she is prone to it, your vet may have some suggestions for you.

260 David Simon  Fri, Jun 20, 2008 2:53:37pm

Hmm. Taken out of context, the Chicago Sun Times' resident black nationalist can be made to sound sensible:

Michelle Obama an angry black woman?

Please.

Michelle Obama bitter?

Give me a break.

What woman, black or white, who is married to a man who has been compared to John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. would be bitter?

What woman, black or white, whose husband -- in less than 10 years -- goes from having the family's credit card declined at a car-rental counter to earning $4 million for two books he's written is angry?

What woman, black or white, who at 44, has an intact family, two beautiful daughters, a loving mother and an adoring god-mother, a dependable social network, who lives in a mansion in a great neighborhood, would feel anything but blessed?

Right on, sister; that's what I'd like to know. But of course, I'm just an ignoramus who doesn't understand the black community:

No. This is angry:

The black woman who is stuck in a slum building in an unsafe neighborhood, she's angry.

The black woman who is dragging her baby's daddy to court once a month trying to get child support, she's angry.

The black woman who has to rob Peter to pay Paul and still can't pay the gas bill, she's angry.

No one's life is perfect, but the Obamas are living the American Dream.

So, it is ridiculous that the mouthpieces for the GOP are having such an easy go of it trying to stereotype Michelle as an angry black woman.

That's what it means when conservative columnist Michelle Malkin is comfortable calling Michelle Barack's "bitter half," and when the conservative National Review labels her Mrs. Grievance.

What's next? Michelle doing a neck roll with a hand on her hip?

Successful black women don't have to walk around grinning all the time to assure white people that they are happy they aren't on food stamps.

Well, I guess she told me.

Michelle Obama is regarded as angry because she always wears The Perpetual Scowl of the Incompetent Supervisor™, when by any measurable standard she should be radiating, if not joy, at least excitement.

I'd guess that she's unhappy because
a) she doesn't like herself very much
b) isn't getting enough attention.....BHO is getting it all
c) she's a control freaque and the campaign is controlling her

Play of the Day: Obama debuts new seal

For anyone trying to picture Barack Obama as president, his campaign offered a visual aid.

A new seal made its debut on Obama's podium Friday as he held a round-table discussion with Democratic governors. The seal, with a blue background and an eagle in the center clutching arrows and an olive branch, might remind some of the presidential version.

But on closer look, the seal is full of symbols representing Obama's campaign of change.

The presidential seal has the Latin phrase "E pluribus unum" — "Out of many, one." In place of that, Obama's seal says, "Vero possumus" — a rough Latin translation of his slogan of "Yes, we can."

The Seal of Obama.

Vero possumus..

She's a spoiled brat who's used to getting her way. She's only had to deal with people who walk on eggshells around her because they don't want to be called racists. Now, she's finding out that most of the rest of the country won't put up with that shit. And she doesn't like it one bit.

Based on the video, we don't even know whether the proprieter is a Muslim. He didn't spout any "praise to allah" BS. We just know that he's in Beirut and he's got a novel concept to attract customers. Whether it works will be determined by the marketplace, but I always applaud the effort. I hope he makes lots of money feeding people. And I hope other people in the region take note that feeding people leads to a better life than the other idiocy.
