Matthew Yglesias Roots for 'Massive Abuses'

Fri, Jun 20, 2008 at 10:15:39 pm PDT

Policy expert Matthew Yglesias is looking for some payback.

Meanwhile, I guess I hope President Obama uses his powers responsibly, but on some level I’m sort of rooting for massive abuses so the right can get what they’ve been asking for.

This comes from a first class creep who once thought it was hilarious to compare LGF to Nazi Germany, so we shouldn’t be surprised that he turns out to be a little Hitler himself.

They understand that the right is heavily armed, don't they? Push a little too far and they may get more than they bargained for.
I'm not saying it will be ok, just that it could easily happen.

I got to experience a vision of the socialist health care system last week. Here in Tucson, we have to have an emissions inspection performed at a state-run inspection station before we can get our plates renewed. I spent 30 minutes in line (forgot it was mid-month and last-minute folks were getting their cars taken care of). They had 3 lanes open, and only 3 lanes despite the line. The people who processed me were competent (except that the gas cap check lady broke the attachment of my captured cap and didn't tell me) and polite, but abrupt and exhibited no evidence of humanity during our interaction. Overall, the term "processed me" is the best description of this transaction, unlike doing business at a private commercial business where you are greeted with a smile and all of the little things that are evidence of human interaction. I drove away from this thinking that this will be what universal health care will be like: peremptory, "go there", "stand there", "don't touch that while we work on it", "you're done, move on". No smiles or other evidence of humanity as it will slow the processing of the other proles waiting for their turn at the limited resources and time available. Oh, and if they make a mistake, don't expect any information or notification.

/no thanks.

Interesting that you mention this because that is how it is in NJ inspection stations. Except we went last week, and no line. We wondered if it was a holiday. Usually wait time are posted, but this time - none. We drove right up, people were very polite and professional. While we waited in the wait area we saw a sign that revealed that the inspection stations had been privatized. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....then it all made sense.

One other thing: The motivations are different. Customers waiting in line are not a problem -- if they come up a penny short or screw up a charge -- That is death to them. So, they move deliberately and slowly to avoid the chance of making a mistake. The customers? Their time is free and if they wait 5 or 45 minutes matters not a whit to the worker -- the fear of coming up short, that fills their lives with dread.

From an American perspective, you are whatever you want to be. If you want to claim to be Arabic, black, believer in human sacrifices or whatever, it will be accepted because that's what you want to be labeled as. So if BHO claims to be Christian it will be accepted.

From a Muslim/Islamic perspective, things are not so easy.

Who is a muslim?

1- Someone who recites the shahada.

Quote:

"Mr. Obama recalled the opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, reciting them with a first-rate accent. In a remark that seemed delightfully uncalculated (it’ll give Alabama voters heart attacks), Mr. Obama described the call to prayer as “one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset.”

[Link: select.nytimes.com...]

The Islamic call to prayer is the sahada and by reciting it, muslims would consider him a muslim. BTW, how would he know the sahada in Arabic unless he studied in koranic school in Indonesia and only muslims can take those koranic classes in Indonesian schools? How come the website says he has "never" been a muslim? But I digress.

2- Someone who's father was muslim (even if only nominally).

Check. for Obama. Both his biological and adoptive were muslim (although nominal).

BHO has caused his own problems by being either ignorant or misleading about his Islamic heritage. What he should do is admit that under an Islamic view of the world, he would be consider a muslim. Then say that although he acknowledges that such perspective exists, he rejects it and defend the rights of all human beings to determine their own beliefs irrespective of their heritage. A good show in support of apostates would go a long way in gaining admiration of human right advocates in Muslim countries. Something along the lines of JFK in Berlin but applied in defense of apostates in the Muslim world who face unbelievable odds against them: "I am also an apotate" would go a long way to eliminate the "smear".

But as DistantThunder posted about New Jersey, the inspection stations in California are private, and you don't get the enema (giggle) that you get at the CA Department of Motor Vehicles.

As for the rest of what you wrote, I agree. With the state budget shortfall, I'm sure we'll be seeing more "revenue enhancement."

I don't seriously think we have to worry about Obama.
No Democrat has ever gone into June without an edge among women and won. Even the most twisted polls are showing McCain neck and neck for women's votes, and men reliably vote Republican.

Absent some really inspired dirty tricks, Obama is probably already toast. Go to your polling place and pull the lever for McCain- it's important, but mostly because you'll get to be part of a landslide victory. Better yet, you'll get to tell the grandkids how you were there when we started taking our country back from whiners, losers, and leftover remnants of failed political systems.

I foresee a November of Obama sitting in the ashcan of history, right next to his Weatherman friends and all their terror-sympathizing buddies. I just hope those chunks of the Berlin Wall under them have some pokey bits sticking up.

It's also a sure sign of a dictatorship. Note how many liberals salivate over the idea of prosecuting Bush after he steps down from office. A changing of the guard without bloodshed or recrimination is one of the genius elements of the liberal democracy. If you want to see what taking revenge on your political enemies looks like, just take a look at most any African country. That is our fate if liberals get their wish.

I guess I hope President Obama uses his powers responsibly,

Not quite sure about that “uses his powers responsibly” thing, are we?
This guy has just shown how communism always finds its way to tyranny.
Many people who defend communism will try to tell me that it has only failed because the people (Stalin, Mao, Lenin) just didn't do it right. I try to point out to that because communism cannot allow decent the default is always tyranny. I usually have to make this point after said commie had praised the legacies of Stalin, Mao, or Lenin

oh sorry I ment Dissent, silly me.

But if you think about it communism doesn't like decent ether,

" ... so we shouldn’t be surprised that [Matthew Yglesias] turns out to be a little Hitler himself."

We already know the modern left (and liberal) has its roots in fascism. The notion they somehow stand for "progressive" policies has been shown to be the fraud it always was. Today, where is most anti-Semitism concentrated? In the left. Take a look at DailyKOS, HuffPo, and any of the liberal blogs. They've simply found some new terms, like "Zionism", behind which to mask their hatred. And they hate the right with an equally murderous passion, now.

All the modern left has done is make Orwell an even greater prophet.

So, what is the solution?

Liberal Fascism.

I Gotta get that book.

Good luck finding it. All the leftwing bookstores wont set it out. It touches a nerve or something.

It is NOT about Obama Vs McCain. It IS about who will stop Pelosie and Reid.

What I fear is that the inexperienced Obama will be a rubber stamp for Pelosie and Reid's excessivly liberal politics and policies.

"Policy Expert" seems to be a very loosely applied credential today, if this character is so referenced.

Mao and Stalin were also "policy experts" insofar as their bizarre economic and social experiments with their societies led to millions of deaths. Almost forgot, Lenin too.

Mattie should form his own little commune and put his theories into practice. He could call it "Schmucktown".

A pompous fool rubber-stamping two blithering idiots. George Soros must be salivating.

re: #69 uptight

I never thought I'd find anything worth voting for in John McCain.

That was until I got better acquainted with Barack Obama's supporters.

Shit - anyone other than him. Not because of Obama particularly - just to wipe the smug grim off his devotees faces.

Actually, it was the "Winnie the Pooh" foreign policy idea that made me a McCain voter.

Not necessarily a McCain supporter, mind you, as he's as much "Big Government" as any Democrat, but an Obama Presidency would be a disaster of Carter-esque proportions.

As the great Ronald Reagan once said...

If it takes a bloodbath, let's get it over with.

There just aren't very many liberals in the all-volunteer army. Or among law-abiding gun owners...

Little Matthew sounds like your typical whining, foot stomping little shit as found on Daily Kos. Only they would hope for more bad to enhance their feelings of revenge.

I'm with you. I don't see an Obama presidency ever happening. Just remember last election about this time "President Kerry" was a foregone conclusion in the MSM. At the time of the Donk convention (featuring Mikey Moore) the donks were declaring victory already. All they had to do was to show up we were told. The donks pulled out all the stops, and Kerry was still beaten decisively.

We can look forward to MSM articles about how racist America really is and how America wasn't ready for a black president ad nauseum in the immediate aftermath of the election. Its a win/win situation for the libz because if they lose, which they will, they have their next 4 years of bitching pre-positioned. The same thing would have held true if Hillary had prevailed.

However, we won't here how Obama was rejected because of his leftism.
