Stephanie Meyer has a new science fiction book out based on a type of invasion of the body snatchers scenario. The protagonist is the invader who has taken over the body and mind of a human, but the human personality won't completely bug out like she is supposed to. The alien finds herself strangely attracted to other humans.

Asimov wrote mostly boring scifi books, except to the uneducated masses without imagination (commercial choice there, I used his math books in High Schoo, which were good), but he was the subject of a really good book: The Flying Sorcerers by Niven and Gerrold (i believe).

The protagonist is the invader who has taken over the body and mind of a human, but the human personality won't completely bug out like she is supposed to. The alien finds herself strangely attracted to other humans.

The Host

Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away.

Our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact and continue their lives apparently unchanged. Most of humanity has succumbed.

When Melanie, one of the few remaining "wild" humans is captured, she is certain it is her end. Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, was warned about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the glut of senses, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

Wanderer probes Melanie's thoughts, hoping to discover the whereabouts of the remaining human resistance. Instead, Melanie fills Wanderer's mind with visions of the man Melanie loves—Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer begins to yearn for a man she has been tasked with exposing. When outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off on a dangerous and uncertain search for the man they both love.

"Stephenie Meyer is an amazing phenomenon—out of the brightness of her mind and spirit comes the illuminated darkness of her stories. For no matter how much pain her characters suffer, Meyer infuses the tales with light and hope." —Orson Scott Card, author of the Ender Saga

"Violence is the last resort of the incompetent."

Depends on the context, of course.

Hmmm. Could someone who carries out a violent plan of some sophistication be considered incompetent? As for the "inarticulate" version, it could be because they are beyond trying to talk to those who will never listen or stop what they are doing. Not because they can't say what they mean.
Not justifying violence, just poking holes in poorly thought out sayings.

re: #89 MrArchieBunker

I have to say the silence from one of my favorite websites, frontpagemag, about Pat Buchanan's new stinker of a book is deafening, the are usually all over him.

I've been wondering the same thing.

Early childhood flashback...

It's seems every 8-track tape collection included the Beatles 1962-1966,
Beach Boys Endless Summer, and Eagles Greatest Hits.

I underestimated the dog. Just like Barak Hussein underestimates the terrorists.

How can we have just executed Hussein for crimes against humanity, and now be willing to elect another Hussein. That's insane.

No, I set the terrarium on the bottom step. The dog managed to tip it over, and the top slid off. I know it was just instict but the 9 year old will be heartbroken. Maybe I could tell him that it flew away.

I recall that my parents had a James bond tape. My dad hated the Beatles due to their druggie hippie lifestyle so nothing from them that I can recall.

re: #112 wolfie

Maybe its just taking some time Wolfie. Frontpage was an all purpose clearinghouse for Buchanan bashers. I'm actually tempted to e-mail David Horowitz over this. The book has been out for some time now. Very odd.

That may be the way to go. You don't want him to look at the dog differently.
