At the Official Obama Site: Reactions to the Faux Presidential Seal

Sun, Jun 22, 2008 at 2:45:59 pm PDT

In the official MyBarackObama.com community blogs, some Obamatons were not impressed with Barack Obama’s new logo.

Not to mention his FISA surrender.

Barack Obama : : Change We Can Believe In | Matte Black News: That seal should be buried and called a joke

The ridicule is just rolling in. What were they thinking? Who is driving this bus?

http://blogs.wsj.com...

Barack Obama : : Change We Can Believe In | Sharon Spooner’s Blog: On FISA and ‘seals’

First, that “seal” on display during the Democratic governors’ meeting was pretty lame. Sen. Obama, you know we love you and we’re willing to donate, volunteer and make phone calls on your behalf. But you haven’t been elected president yet, so don’t start acting like it with something that looks like a quasi-presidential seal. (Don’t forget that you’ve still got to get rid of the “elitist” label with some voters.) I’m still hoping that it was a one-time joke. And the “Yes We Can” in Latin reminded me of Hogwarts.

Second, many of your supporters are very disappointed with your statement on the FISA “compromise.” This was no compromise; this was total capitulation. Senator, you taught constitutional law. You KNOW this breaks the Fourth Amendment. Please reconsider voting in favor of this bad law. Then, when you become president and you have a bigger majority in both the House and Senate, you can redo the FISA law with the proper protections. And no immunity.

You'd think they would avoid seals, marks or any other "labels" at all cost.

Apparently not.

5 DistantThunder  Sun, Jun 22, 2008 2:49:41pm

What? Veritas Possum isn't polling well?

The seal will be just one artifact of his defeat.

6 George guy  Sun, Jun 22, 2008 2:49:43pm

"That seal should be buried and called a joke" sounds almost like legitimate condemnation, but it's got a hint of Orwellian "Quick, chuck it down the memory hole!" aftertaste.

7 JammieWearingFool  Sun, Jun 22, 2008 2:49:49pm

That seal went over very well in some quarters.

If you wanted to emphasize to voters that the Democrats' nominee is a bit stuck up, it would be hard to do better. I suppose he could start requiring reporters to stand when he enters the room. ... The seal probably started out as a bit of fun. But unless David Axelrod is insane, the thing will never be seen again.

Hail to the cheap Presidential simulacrum
Hail to the cheap way for hope and change he calls
Hail to the cheap seal he's slapped upon his podium
To gloss over his flip-flops, and that he lacks the balls.

His is the aim to make this grand country humble,
In the face of true threats we know he won't let out a peep.
Hail to the one who without a prompter bumbles,
Hail to the Obamessiah! Hail to the cheap!

I have not read them yet, but I understand that the diaries of Gluckel of Hamelin (which are, I believe, published in translation by Schocken) are an interesting insight into the day to day life of a medieval Jewish woman.

Hey! That is one of the sources on my optional list! I have a list of 20 or so primary sources and they choose 3 (on different topics) for extra reading. I may also take a few excerpts from it for required reading.......I need to comb through it.
Any other ideas you come up with are more than welcome!

My knowledge of medieval Jewish history, BTW, is pathetic. Even 25 yrs ago a doctoral candidate was expected to know the broad outlines of Islamic history. But outside of the history of anti-semitism, which focuses on the Gentiles, no one bothered w/ the Jews.
I knew a lot about Maimonides only because I liked him so much. Still do.

So it's been fun to learn about the subject.

I wonder when it will occur to the average American that this guy is strictly Camp Runamuck. Nary a day passes without him doing something stupid, or getting rid of somebody doing something stupid under his name and approval. I find it so pathetic it is beyond laughter. Its no wonder that he has support when 44% of the American public has not read a book (any book) within the past year. Its not like you have to be rich to read books either. Just get a library card, a chair, a table and some light. Sadly, the average intelligence of the average American has declined since the 1830s when Toquesville wrote about it. He as very impressed that he could go into the most back woods cabin and find a Bible, perhaps Shakespeare, but always the local newspaper. When you read, you must engage your mind. When you watch the tube, you don't.

In fact, the vast majority of crime perpetrated by blacks is "black on black" (not "black on white" or "black on Asian"), so this supposedly "caring" behavior actually PENALIZES law-abiding black people by making it more difficult for them to go about their lives unmolested.

That's not true. I used to be in an industry that relied on paper. There were occasional shortages and the price would go through the ceiling. The feds (who were a major user of paper and printed products) would open up some areas to lumbering and the price would drop and the supply would open right up.
It's something. I still prefer drilling more of our own oil and throwing some 60 dollar per barrel oil into the mix.

I somehow think that "Vero ego niger" is not a slogan anyone would like to use in an English-speaking country.

(Yes, the Ni**er-word derives from the Latin word for the color black. It became a hateful word because of the way it was used, not because of its intrinsic meaning. Compare "Zhid" in Russian [roughly equivalent to "kike"], derived from "Yid" in Yiddish. [The polite Russian word for "Jew" is "evrei", lit. "Hebrew".]

Next time, take some decent sherry vinegar (1/2 cup), pour it over 1/2 cup sugar in a saucepan, add a few citrus peels, and reduce that till it's syrupy. Drizzle that over the sweet potatoes.

Or, just reduce some good balsamic vinegar (without the sugar) over low heat until it, too, forms a syrup.

Cops investigate death of man, 66, found slain on South Side sidewalk
Tribune staff report
9:57 PM CDT, June 21, 2008

Police on Saturday were investigating the death of a man who was found unresponsive on a sidewalk in the West Englewood neighborhood.

Emergency workers found George Huff, 66, of the 100 block of West 61st Street about 11:30 p.m. Friday in the 6300 block of South Ashland Avenue, officials said.

Huff was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, according to a police spokeswoman.

An autopsy by the Cook County medical examiner's office indicated Huff was assaulted and died of blunt-force trauma to the head and a cut artery.

Police are investigating the death as a homicide.

Hey, I noticed that another startlingly creepy image loads as the background wall paper in Obama's site. You have to screenshot it really quick before the content covers it, but I did and here's a website of it:
[Link: docs.google.com...] fmwxrbfp

Now. Someone tell me why the "Great Obama" symbol is pristinely superimposed over a crumpled, sad looking flag with a spear very clearly piercing the lower right hand corner and exiting above. I'm not a nut or anything (promise!) but I don't like that one bit.

Just, weird.

Not just weird. Disturbing.

France condemns attack on Jewish teenager in Paris, recalls murder of Ilan Halimi

Some 300 people gathered Sunday evening at the Beth Haya Mouchka Lubavitch synagogue in Paris’s 19th district to pray for the recovery of the Jewish teenager savaged Saturday evening by a gang of youths of Black African origin.
The synagogue is located on 49 Rue Petit, near the place where the 17-year-old Rudy Haddad, a member of the local Lubavitch community, was attacked by the youths who beat him with metal bars and smashed his skull.
The victim, who suffered several broken ribs and a fractured skull, was placed in intensive care at Cochin hospital in central Paris.

Anything is worth a shot. Last month my wife went to pass a truck only to find a second vehicle ahead of it, and an on coming car. She sped up to get arround the second vehicle and found out the oncoming car was a patrol unit. Ticketed for twelve over. I told her to take it to court and tell the judge that she only has one good eye, and would he prefer she keep it on th road, or her speed?
She opted to just pay it.

Her best bet is to show up well dressed and with a file folder with at least twenty pages in it. They don't have to have anything to do with her ticket, but she should have at least two pictures of the sign and a picture of her dog looking pitiful. Again, her best bet is for the cop not to show up. Courts are use to people being afraid of them and just paying fine rather than appearing and actually arguing their case. If the cop isn't there it's her word against a cop who isn't there.

He told me to plead "Not Guilty." I said, "But I am guilty." He said, "You're not SWEARING you're not guilty; they have to prove you are."

About 30 members of my class were there that day, as was the police officer. The girl ahead of me said, "I'm not guilty. There should have been a speed trap there." [I swear this is exactly what she said; I'll never forget it.]

The judge found her PBV (probation before verdict; you prove you're a good little bunny for 24 hours, and the court presumes you're not guilty).

I was next. I was shaking and trying not to cry. I started to stutter, "Noooooooot...." and the judge just tapped his gavel and said, "PBV."

Some times it happens. I had a cop who rememb ered NOTHING when he got on the stand. The persecuter asked for a recess and took the cop out back (right under my open window) and told him to lie even if he couldn't remember.
We made USA today when I dismissed all the tickets on the docket.
After that, the cop was more or less toast even though We are expected to weigh cases on merit rather then past performance of the officer.

I'd give you a pass on the speeding but, I'd hafta' nail you on the seat belt thing. It takes a conscious decision to not put it on.

Yes, the last three months have been rather ridiculous, when I look back on it. But the latest issue--broken toe--is pretty much healed, so I can finally get back into walking! That bit of exercise helps me so much, mentally as well as physically. And, of course, liberal amounts of chocolate. :D

because in europe there aren't enough to put up a good fight.
in france it is 10 to 1 against the muslim not to mention french anti semites. Israel, canada or america would welcome them.

All it takes is one or two times to beat the living shit out of any "yoot" who attacks a Jew, and these cowardly shmucks will back off.

About a year and a half ago a Moscow "yoot" ran amock through a synagogue, stabbing people at random. Some bochurim tackled the guy, took the knife away from him, and sat on his hands and feet and head until police arrived.

It's too bad they didn't pass the time until the cops got there, carving their initials in his ass.

re: #394 goddessoftheclassroom

When I was in high school, I fell into a speed trap. My dad told me to go to court; he went with me.

I don't know why the judge was so merciful--he must have had a real beef with that police officer!

I cannot tell you how many tickets I got out of when I was a teen just by cwing my widdle eyes out for the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Karma bit me hard when I got clocked doing 79 in a 30 before midnight in a (literal) one-light town on the way to drop off one of my friends minutes before her curfew. If I recall correctly, the ticket was close to $400.00. (The judge praised me for wearing my seat belt.) My parents took away my car except for school for what seemed like an eternity.

The next time I got popped was about 25 years later when I got clocked doing 51 in a 30 JUST inside the speed limit sign. I had to attend traffic school and it disappeared.

Hail to the cheap way for hope and change he calls
Hail to the cheap seal he's slapped upon his podium

Hail to the one who without a prompter bumbles,
Hail to the Obamessiah! Hail to the cheap!

re: #431 JSK1121

You also have to consider McCain grew up during the cold war, went to Vietnam and was held as a POW. He's still in war mode, and his finger is unconsciously on the trigger. Do you want to put the lives of millions of Americans into the hands of a man whose been captured by the enemy and still has intense memories of his war days. Bush hasn't spent a minute in combat, but his poor administration let 600,000 iraqians die after he gave that mission accomplished speech on the carrier. What do you think will happen when a Vietnam POW takes office, you think he's going to be nice to the enemy, and try to work on foreign relations. Don't be suprised when bombs start to fall into the dc area.

Dayum. Someone is seriously deranged. Not to mention deficient in the grammatical department -- "iraqians"? That's gotta be a new one.
