That's a Big No on the Faux Seal

Mon, Jun 23, 2008 at 9:10:15 pm PDT

Obama Campaign Drops Faux Presidential Seal.

While we don’t have full details, someone at Obama’s press center, when asked if the seal would be used going forward said simply, “No.”

What a LOSER.
BTW Kos was on Olbermann tonight.

What a pair of tools.
Kos had a shirt on that did not match his suit and the curtain behind him (covering the wall in his moms basement) needed a good ironing.

All I want to know is did they club the seal before throwing it under the bus or were they more humane?

It was a stupid idea. It made Obama look like Buckey with a wannabe shield to McCain's Captain America with the real thing.

Talk about accentuating the negative; the youth and inexperience and the fear of changing basic American things and institutions.

However, politicians have been using American symbols in their image making from way back. It was however the wrong way for Obama to do it, and unlike other things, this time he did not get away with it.

I'm excited about the prospect of an Obama presidency. Positively giddy, actually.

It will be the perfect storm of progressive idiocy and incompetence. It will combine the blatantly unconstitutional power grabs of Roosevelt, the willful stupidity of McGovern, the foreign policy incompetence of Carter, and the cronyism and corruption of Clinton.

Strap yourselves in folks, and set the controls for the heart of the sun.

Barack may have dropped the seal, but bloggers and the Republicans really need to make sure whenever they need a photo of Obama on some subject involving hubris by the candidate and/or his surrogates or the big media outlets supporting him, the picture of him and his pet seal needs to be reposted and reaired often between now and November.

Until something better comes along, it's Obama's Dukakis-in-a-tank moment.

re: #63 Teacake! What makes you think there will BE debates, once Obama has the actual nomination?
Hell, if he's willing to suffer the slings and arrows of all his bullshit - especially on Public Fundraising - why should he be afraid of any heat coming his way from dodging a debate with McCain? Especially because he won't "dodge" it; they just won't be able to coordinate schedules, or the format or the lighting or the...........
Obama isn't really very bright, but he's smart enough not to get into a real debate with McCain with a moderator who ONLY keeps time, but doesn't ask the questions or follow ups on replies.

Razorbacker posted this earlier. [Link: littlegreenfootballs.com...]

I'm afraid conservatives aren't very engaged in politics right now as it doesn't look like we'll have any candidates to fight for in the near future. Still, we need to have our own vision for the future to continue to work towards. With all the second guessing about Iraq, it's starting to look like we'll never be able to assert ourselves confidentially overseas again. That won't do. I envision and continue to envision an America that knows to do what is right and doesn't care about popularity on the world stage. In short, I envision an America that's confident enough in itself to be an asshole.

MY VISION FOR AMERICA

I want an America with foreign policy like the Incredible Hulk: You make us angry, we smash the crap out of everything.

I want an America that will take a crap on some other nation's lawn, and then that nation will thank us just for acknowledging their existence.

I want an America that causes contiguous countries to build their own walls on our border in a vain attempt to protect themselves.

I want an America that will invite itself into other nation's houses, drink all their beer, piss on their furniture, and the only thing we worry about afterwards is where to get more booze.

I want an America that's always looking for cool new things to nuke.

I want an America that declares war on Saturn and bullies all the other nations into joining us on the declaration.

I want an America that shows up drunk and looking for a fight to every U.N. meeting.

I want an America that invades the next Islamic country that pisses us off and then forcefully converts everyone there to Wiccan just because we think that would be funny.

I want an America that is all for passing tons of international laws and regulations with the running assumption that none of them, of course, applies to us.

I want an America that other nations are less concerned about receiving foreign aid from than not receiving our foreign detriment.

I want an America that surprises other countries by busting right through the wall yelling, "Oh yeah!" just like the Kool-Aid guy.

I want an America that announces there should only be six continents and it has a sentimental attachment to Antarctica.

I want an America that causes other countries to pay Rand McNally to get themselves delisted.

"Barack Obama will turn the page on these failed policies and this cynical and divisive brand of politics so that we can unite this nation around a common purpose to finish the fight against al-Qaida."

Oh yeah? How's he going to do that "end the war" at the same time? Since when has Obama supported a fight with terrorists of any kind? Fight al-Qaida my a$$. His ilk has done more to help our enemies than any group of American citizens ever have done in war time in our nations history. The only way Obama will finish the fight with al-Qaida is by surrendering to them.

Obama's Presidential Seal Was For 'One-Time Use'

ALBUQUERQUE - Barack Obama’s presidential campaign is retiring a presidential seal that made its debut at a Chicago event last week.

“It was a one-time seal for a one-time use,” Obama spokeswoman Jen Psaki said. The seal, which resembled the official presidential seal, had a picture of a bald eagle on it. A phrase inscribed above it read “Vero Possumus,” a Latin expression that roughly translates to the campaign’s slogan, “Yes, we can.”

The fructose Coke is likely the result of the oppressive sugar tariffs in the USA. I'm gonna find some of that Mexican Coca Cola. I miss the "Real Thing".

No, not exactly: it's that HFCS is waaayyyy cheaper than cane sugar, mostly because it benefits from federal corn subsidies (big surprise, no?). In Mexico, HFCS is effectively banned: sweetened drinks like Coca-Cola must be made with cane sugar. It's the law (the sugar cane growers have clout).

So far the only people to play the race card are (in the order I have observed them) Obama, MSM and Liberals.

When discussing candidates to a Lib I know they asked if the reason I don't support him was because of his race. I explained that to me race is not an issue the Candidates policies are.

I don't agree with some of the stuff McCain does, but i have not seen ONE this about Obama that is good for US or will work in real life.

192 wolfie  Mon, Jun 23, 2008 9:59:34pm

Mr. Wolf was a moonbat in his college days.
The summer after he graduated he went to Europe for several weeks w/ 3 friends. It was at the tail end of the Vietnam War and Nixon was president.

When he and his friends encountered Europeans, they of course distanced themselves from the ordinary, bitter, clingy types who voted for Nixon over McGovern. THEY were not like THOSE Americans. And they joined in laughing at how fat and tacky we are, how materialistic, how racist, blah, blah, blah.

At some point it started to really bother Mr. Wolf. He avoided the conversations. He looked at his friends....and by extension himself... and saw something he didn't like. Belong long he was more than annoyed, he was disgusted. He couldn't put a name to what he saw then. But it was a small epiphany, the turning point in a gradual but steady rejection of the New Left and all it stands for.

In a couple of years he knew the name of the monster was TREASON.

So is that the excuse now? One time use? Can't you do better than that. If it didn't make Barry look worse (i.e. more arrogant and out of touch) they would have kept using it.

Eeek. Whenever I end up debating politics with a liberal, a quite frequent occurrence in the boondocks of NJ, I just say that MLK should have been and basically was our first black president. Obama doesn't possess any modicum of acumen necessary or emblematic of a great leader, nor does he have the gravitas of MLK.

The response? Crickets.

Great stuff about Obama's ersatz opossum seal, from a hotair comment by "dominigan":

Consider all the elements on the original seal, the history and symbolism, and consider what has been changed...

1) The snake (enemy) has been removed from the eagle’s beak. We will no longer confront our enemies.

2) The eagle is not a bald eagle. This type of eagle was often prominently displayed in the crests of European countries. Even Hitler used it in his banners and artwork. Our unique symbol has been replaced with a European symbol.

3) Red, the color of blood and bravery has been erased from the field.

4) The shield, symbolizing defense, with the stripes of the thirteen colonies, united under the blue banner, is gone. It has been replaced with Obama’s own personal symbol.

5) All references to the 13 colonies... the olives, inner stars and stripes on the shield are gone. The history of thirteen independent colonies uniting as one nation, has been erased.

6) “Out of many, one” has been removed, replaced with Obama’s slogan.

7) The dark blue, the background for the stars, representing states rights has been replaced with a soft pastel blue.

8) The 50 stars, representing the 50 states, have disappeared.

So consider what has changed...

The individual states have been removed, our history erased, our symbol of power and unity neutered, and only One Government remains, with the messiah’s symbol in the center.

Something happened today that (for me) pretty well summed up the definition of a liberal OOPS, "progressive". My teenage sons went to dinner with their mom (my ex-wife). When they returned, they described how their mom had gone on at length how she had hired a new yard man to mow her lawn. She was, apparently, somewhat proud of the fact that the guy was a Mexican who could barely speak English and who had requested that he be paid in cash.

My sons asked her whether she knew if the guy was a legal alien..... and didn't it bother her that she might be contributing to the illegal immigrant problem. Her answer? "Who cares?"

and that is where elections are won.
Anything Obama does will be glossed over.
The slightest error by McCain will be blown out of proportion.
I am not optimistic.

One's optimism should be inversely proportional to how stupid/gullible one believes the American electorate to be.

Excellent!

MY VISION FOR AMERICA
I want an America with foreign policy like the Incredible Hulk: You make us angry, we smash the crap out of everything.
I want an America that will take a crap on some other nation's lawn, and then that nation will thank us just for acknowledging their existence.

Here is where Razorback found that.

Thank you, Mandy. Up-dinged both of you.

Come dance and show your solidarity with transfolks resistin' the prison industrial complex...We are a prison abolitionist organization, in that while we fight for the immediate needs of TGI people in prison, we do not advocate for reforms that further expand the prison industrial complex.

or...

Erotic Slapping and Punching for Pleasure

There is no need for toys. You can play anytime with energetic hands and body. This class will show you sensual face slapping, energetic body punching,

etc. etc. etc.

Yes, these are all real events over the next few days in the San Francisco Bay Area -- and this is actually a slow time of year. And it's just the tip of the iceberg. People in other parts of country often ask me how there can so so many weird events that I document, but in fact I barely cover 1% of what's going on around here. Every day there are at least ten completely whacked-out political/sexual/social events in the Bay Area, and dozens of semi-whacked-out ones. Just keeping on top of all the options is itself a full-time jobs for most moonbats!

This will be the Class Anthem:

He Hit Me (It Felt Like A Kiss)

"He Hit Me (It Felt Like A Kiss)" is a pop song written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King and recorded by The Crystals under the guidance of Phil Spector in 1962.
Goffin and King wrote the song after discovering that singer Little Eva was being regularly beaten by her boyfriend.[citation needed] When they inquired why she tolerated such treatment, Eva replied, with complete sincerity, that her boyfriend's actions were motivated by his love for her.[citation needed]
The song was written and intended as a sort of protest song from the point of view of an abused woman.[citation needed] Phil Spector's arrangement was ominous and ambiguous.[citation needed] Dave Thompson writes, "It was a brutal song, as any attempt to justify such violence must be, and Spector’s arrangement only amplified its savagery, framing Barbara Alston’s lone vocal amid a sea of caustic strings and funereal drums, while the backing vocals almost trilled their own belief that the boy had done nothing wrong. In more ironic hands (and a more understanding age), 'He Hit Me' might have passed at least as satire. But Spector showed no sign of appreciating that, nor did he feel any need to. No less than the song’s writers, he was not preaching, he was merely documenting." [1]
Upon its initial release, "He Hit Me" received some airplay, but then there was a widespread protest of the song, with many concluding that the song was an endorsement of spousal abuse.[citation needed] The song soon became played only rarely on the radio, as now.

And you can warm up for the class by listening to it here:

Decisions, decisions.

Which event should I attend?

Giraffe dance: Boring artsy stuff. Nobody will show up. 50% chance of interesting puppets but the only attendees will be a couple of old people and Dumpster Muffin's cousin Trash Biscuit.

9/11 window-lickers off their meds: Boring. Same song and dance, same stupid "facts", same insane gleam in the eye. Not worth the time, unless they've vowed to start setting themselves on fire. If they go all Thich Quang Duc on us, you need to be there, but not for anything less.

F the Fourth: Now here we have potential for really outrageous fascist hatred, which dovetails nicely with the Nazi-saluting loonies you documented earlier. I bet a lot of the same people will show up, and they've had a few more days to think of really clever slogans and vulgarities.

Trannies: Dancing transexuals are pretty much run-of-the-mill in the Bay Area, no? Isn't that something they do for tourists now? Lame.

Erotic Slapping & Punching: Now here is something different again. We have bizarre sex AND physical violence, you can't lose! That's just too strange to pass up.

I'd say it's a toss-up between F the Fourth and the sexy fighting.

This one intrigues me.

Memorial Service for the 4th Amendment

The 4th Amendment to the US constitution is just one more thing that has been murdered since bloody Emperor George took office in 2001: Over 4000 US soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan; over one million Iraqis and Afghanis and many of our brothers and sisters in this country who have been either killed or devastated by catastrophic climate change and other violence that has become rampant.

The First Amendment has been obliterated with "free speech" zones; the arrests of thousands of activists trying to express their freedom of speech; the destruction of the "freedom of the press" clause began during the Reagan years and it's untimely demise was hastened during the Clinton regime; the US technically has no state religion, but Christianity has been informally shoved down our throats with the Emperor getting revelations from his demented God that tells him to go on crusades against Muslim countries.

I am calling for a memorial service for the 4th Amendment on Tuesday, June 24th. We in San Francisco will be gathering at City Hall at 3pm and having a solemn funeral procession to the Federal building at 3:30 pm. We will then eulogize the 4th Amendment and give it a proper send off. It served us well. Many of our brothers and sisters have never felt its presence, though, even though they have been working for civil rights for generations.

GAS COULD FALL TO $2/GALLON IF CONGRESS ACTS, ANALYSTS SAY

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- The price of retail gasoline could fall by half, to around $2 a gallon, within 30 days of passage of a law to limit speculation in energy-futures markets, four energy analysts told Congress on Monday.

Testifying to the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Michael Masters of Masters Capital Management said that the price of oil would quickly drop closer to its marginal cost of around $65 to $75 a barrel, about half the current $135.

Fadel Gheit of Oppenheimer & Co., Edward Krapels of Energy Security Analysis and Roger Diwan of PFC Energy Consultants agreed with Masters' assessment at a hearing on proposed legislation to limit speculation in futures markets. Krapels said that it wouldn't even take 30 days to drive prices lower, as fund managers quickly liquidated their positions in futures markets.

"Record oil prices are inflated by speculation and not justified by market fundamentals," according to Gheit. "Based on supply and demand fundamentals, crude-oil prices should not be above $60 per barrel."

Finally, we're finding who made this pricing madness happen.

That's why he doesn't NEED a chute -- he'd just aim his mouth straight down towards the ground, start talking, and gently touch down.

He could get a lot of mileage out of a hot-air balloon. No propane necessary (maybe just a plate of beans, for afterburner?), and pretend he's Reverend Wright on a roll. He'd stay up a week at a time.

With all the folks he's thrown under the bus by now, there are almost enough down there to all sit up, levitate the bus, and bring it to a stop.

Aide: plot to kill Ahmadinejad thwarted at U.N. meet

TEHRAN (Reuters) - An adviser of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said there was a plot to assassinate the Iranian president during a U.N. food crisis summit in Italy earlier this month, an Iranian daily reported on Tuesday.

It came a few days after Ahmadinejad, who often rails against the West, accused the United States and its allies of plotting to kidnap and kill him during a visit to neighboring Iraq in March.

re: #192 wolfie

Thats an excellent tale of getting from a 'group' mindset into thinking for oneself - and sticking with it.
I remember well that summer 1968 - and being a young, impressionable chick, I wanted to be 'in' with the crowd. So I tried to understand all that leftist sloganeering - hm, and then what happened?
August 1968 - the Soviet Union invaded Chekoslovakia. With their tanks ...
That was it, as far as I was concerned - although Solshenizyn's 'GULAG Archipelago', which came out a bit later, certainly reinforced my gut reaction from 1968.

Treason - yes, but its never that for lefties or commies.

How sick & twisted are Muslim fanatics?

Take Mohammed Junaid Babar, the New York City-raised Al-Qaeda operative-turned-co-operative witness, both at the British trial that preceded Mr. Khawaja's and saw five of his alleged buddies receive sentences of 20 years a pop and at Mr. Khawaja's own, which in languorous Canadian fashion began here in earnest only yesterday.

Mr. Babar's mother worked at the World Trade Center when the two planes tore into the twin towers; she escaped with her life. In other words, the Muslim hijackers at the controls of those jets barely missed her.

Mr. Babar was immediately inspired to go to Afghanistan not to fight the guys who nearly killed his mummy, but to fight the dirty kuffar, or infidels, the hijackers had attacked.

He is the reverse of the fictional French elephant of the same name who left the jungle, visited a city and returned with the benefits of civilization for his fellow elephants; Mr. Babar left Manhattan, visited the wilds of northern Pakistan, and wanted all the more to blow civilization to smithereens.

That sick & twisted!

Canadian terrorist trial:

He allegedly convinced an Ottawa Muslim woman to do some terrorist banking for him (she will testify here later) and he told the ex-fiancée (she will testify via video link) once that "Not a day goes by that I don't wish to be on the front lines with the mujahadeen" and that "civilian deaths are inevitable and permissible" in the Koran. He allegedly told the fiancée's online replacement that Osama bin Laden was his "most beloved person" and that he longed "to kiss his beloved hand." When he heard, once, that Pakistani troops had Al-Qaeda members cornered, he allegedly was on the phone to the cell leader, offering to ride to the rescue.

And of all the people in all the places that Mr. Khawaja went, in person or online, in Ottawa or London or Pakistan or cyberspace, the fiercest resistance he seems to have encountered consisted of gentle, qualified cautions - to tone down the rhetoric or take more precautions.

Not a soul appears to have said, "Brother, you know this stuff ain't sanctioned by the old Koran."

Liberals 'Green shift' brand hits a snag

OTTAWA — Stéphane Dion's cross-country tour promoting his “green shift” hit a potentially embarrassing pothole Monday as a Toronto environmentalist took legal action over what she describes as “blatantly unethical” trademark infringement.

A firm already operating as Green Shift sent a cease and desist letter Monday afternoon to the Liberal Party and the company is considering whether to sue for damages.

Jennifer Wright, who has been running the small but successful environmental consulting company for nearly 10 years, said she was heading out to a Dave Matthews concert last week when a call came in from the House of Commons.

She grabbed the phone because her company has a contract with the Parliament Hill cafeterias, providing them with products such as recycled coffee cups.

Instead, Ms. Wright said the cheery caller was Katie Telford, the deputy chief of staff to Mr. Dion, the Liberal Leader, informing her that the Liberals were about to launch their own “green shift” plan.

Ms. Wright recalls being told by the senior Liberal aide: “I just want to let you know that you're going to be getting a lot of hits on the website.”

Ms. Wright said she warned Ms. Telford the Liberals could expect a lawsuit if they went ahead and used the name.

LOL! An environmentalist threatens the Liberals with a lawsuit for copyright infringement... ain't irony wonderful!

What we have to look forward to under universal health care. The government mandates your waistline:

“Those exceeding government limits - 33.5 inches for men and 35.4 inches for women, and having a weight related ailment will be given dieting guidance if after three months they do not lose weight. If necessary, they will be steered toward further re-education after six more months.”

It's not like Michelle didn't warn us. She did say we wouldn't be allowed to eat what we want.

Interesting article in the NYT on Algeria. It uses "terrorism" and "terrorist" on the front page rather liberally as it explores how Algeria seems to be regretting the Arabization it imposed after kicking out the French.

ALGIERS — First, Abdel Malek Outas’s teachers taught him to write math equations in Arabic, and embrace Islam and the Arab world. Then they told him to write in Latin letters that are no longer branded unpatriotic, and open his mind to the West.

Malek is 19, and he is confused.

“When we were in middle school we studied only in Arabic,” he said. “When we went to high school, they changed the program, and a lot is in French. Sometimes, we don’t even understand what we are writing.”

The confusion has bled off the pages of his math book and deep into his life. One moment, he is rapping; another, he recounts how he flirted with terrorism, agreeing two years ago to go with a recruiter to kill apostates in the name of jihad.

At a time of religious revival across the Muslim world, Algeria’s youth are in play. The focus of this contest is the schools, where for decades Islamists controlled what children learned, and how they learned, officials and education experts here said.

Now the government is urgently trying to re-engineer Algerian identity, changing the curriculum to wrest momentum from the Islamists, provide its youth with more employable skills, and combat the terrorism it fears schools have inadvertently encouraged.

About 1% of murders committed in Toronto last year involved legally registered handguns. What does the mayor want to do to combat rising gun crime rates? The mayor wants to ban legal hand gun ownership in Toronto.

The conversation shifted, with Hassinah complaining that men were treated better at home than women. “The boys don’t have to wash the dishes. Why?” she said. “Why the difference? If I had a boy or girl, I would treat them equal.

“Women are supposed to work all day and come home and clean and cook — no way,” she fumed, her hands firmly on her knees.

Mr. Bou Bekeur seemed pleased. “Women have more opportunities today than they used to. Women can participate in sports and still be respected,” he said in his naturally soft voice.

“No,” Hassinah said, gently, shaking her head at her father. “My way of thinking is more influenced by religion. My religion tells me ‘no, that’s not right.’ ”

Massive cognitive dissonance.

No one was hurt by the mortar shell and there was no immediate claim of responsibility.

Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri said his group was not aware of the incident and remained committed to the truce.

BING BING BING- who wins the prize? Was I the first(but certainly not the last) to say that no matter who attacked from Gaza- Hamas would deny responsibility? Freetoken: Would you (or anybody else for that matter) care to comment on whether or not you think there is an "Oil Bubble" and if there is what it will take to pop it?

The reason I ask is that I was walking past a newsstand last night and saw a headline that read "The Oil Bubble: When and Why it Will Pop" and it got me thinking about all the talk of the price of oil being driven by speculation. I won't cite the name of the publication, but I've been told that they are notorious for getting things wrong so I was curious as to what things really look like in the market these days.

The perceived oil bubble will pop when the following occur:

1. The USA seriously starts exploiting crude located in the USA.

2. Americans begin to lower consumption of crude (last two months have seen declines, real declines not inflation adjusted)

3. India stops subsidising gasoline/oil to its growing economy. Which will then slow.

4. China stops subsidising gasoline/oil to its growing economy. Which will then slow (subsidy phase-out begins today, I think)

5. The much-anticipated, long-awaited, Lordy-Lordy-please-hurry great leap forward in solar cell technology makes them efficient enough for at least break-even home use.

It won't take all five. I hope that any three will prick the bubble.

Winter?

Pretty close. They plant in the fall, after harvest of the main crop. The wheat grows during the (relatively mild) winters.

Since the farmers already have the equipment from their rice days to plow-up the levees, they're irrigating corn and getting great yields. The beans don't need quite as much water so you see those huge walking sprinklers moving in big circles around deep-ground wells.

I smile when I hear city folks talking about bumpkin farmers. Successful farmers use GPS guided tractors, satellite or internet delivered radar systems (and coincidently market reports), 40-row cultivators pulled by quarter-million dollar tractors, airplane (or helicopter) applied chemicals.

I takes a lot of money to farm for a living.

No.
Three years ago I would have gotten 4.50 per bushel of soybeans
Now they are 10+ a bushel.
Corn would have been 1.90 per bushel
Now it is 4+ a bushel.

Soybeans maybe 40 bushel to the acre
Corn about 190 bushel to the acre

So you would get around twice as much for your corn as the soybeans.

Greets and saluts from the NYC metro area. It didn't take long, did it. Five days.

That's all it took for the terrorists to break the hudna. They fired mortars and two kassams at Israel, one kassam hitting a home in Sderot.

Islamic Jihad claims that they will retaliate against Israel for killing one of its terrorists in the West Bank.

I'd say that this hudna is over and Israel should treat it as any rational nation facing such threats - to go after the terrorists responsible and deal with the threat. Of course, that's not what will happen, as they will dither and limit the actions against the terrorists.

All that will do is give the terrorists the idea that they can get away with more attacks - that there's a level of violence that the Israelis will tolerate even while calling it a hudna.

You have to define what going forward means and why it won't be used.
By going forward, the Obama people mean in the future when he's in the Whitehouse. Once that happens, there will be no need for the faux seal.

Hey, good morning {red}!
I'm not sure I understand the lure of Ethanol - other than the fact that you can use, iirc, up to 20% of your gas tanks capacity with it - the other
80% being regular ole gasoline - it's expensive to the consumer and from what I hear it reduces gas mileage.
Do farmers get more money for corn from those folks who make Ethanol than they do from the people who sell it to humans as food or to other agri businesses that use corn for feed?

Ethanol subsidies for corn growers plus the blenders get subsidies. Your tax dollars at work.

No.
Both soybeans and corn have roughly doubled in price.
You just make more money off of corn because it has such a higher yield.
I don't know much about ethanol.
I can tell you that around here, places that have been in pasture for generations are being plowed up and planted.
There is just too much money to be made in crops right now.
Farming is incredibly expensive, if we didn't own our own business, we could not afford to do it.

T-Bone Burnett is fantastic on guitar. He really knows and appreciates American music and is a joy to see. Allison Kraus has the voice of an angel, and her group performs as well. And Robert Plant still has the chops that made LedZep famous.

That, in all its pathetic absurdity, is all that Olmert hopes to purchase at the certain cost of Israeli blood: a baring of the neck to the dagger so that when the "inevitable, occurs - the world will know that Israel did all it could". It's what the Peace Lobby calls 'confidence building'. But the confidence it builds is entirely of the wrong sort.

But in this last, Olmert will have probably have miscalculated . He will get weakness and he will reap war, but Israel will get no sympathy.

beans purchased: 10000

How many more points are there to prove? This 'truce' will cost lives, like the ones before. Nuts.

It's such a cold and calculated non-truce (see the Caroline Glick article I posted in the links), designed just to prove a point. It will cost way too many lives and the appeasement crowd still won't get it.

ABC News' Christianne Klein reports that at a breakfast with Republican insiders at the Capitol Hill Club this morning, former White House senior aide Karl Rove referred to Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, as "coolly arrogant."

"Even if you never met him, you know this guy," Rove said, per Christianne Klein. "He's the guy at the country club with the beautiful date, holding a martini and a cigarette that stands against the wall and makes snide comments about everyone who passes by."

753 Kenneth  Tue, Jun 24, 2008 7:04:17am

Background on Islamic Jihad

Islamic Jihad is significantly smaller than Hamas, and lacks the wide social network that Hamas has. The Palestinian Islamic Jihad was formed in the Gaza Strip during the 1970s by Fathi Shaqaqi and Abd Al Aziz Awda as a branch of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, an organization currently led by Ayman al-Zawahiri. The group is also said to receive some funding from Hezbollah. The group has also clashed repeatedly with Hamas following the latter's takeover of the Gaza strip in mid-2007.

The group is based in the Syrian capital, Damascus, and its financial backing is believed to come from there and Iran. The group operates primarily in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, but has also carried out attacks in Jordan and Lebanon. Its main strongholds in the West Bank are the cities of Hebron and Jenin.

Islamic Jihad has much in common with Hamas. They both have an Islamist agenda, they call for the destruction of Israel, they have cooperated in attacks against Israel, they formed as offshoots of Egypt's Islamic Brotherhood, and they receive funds from Iran.

PIJ is a branch of Al Qaeda, funded & directed by Syria & Iran. Iran condemned this truce agreement between Hamas & Israel, & so it seems they have used their pawns to try to subvert the truce. Hamas, while not directly responsible, at least not overtly so, hasn't bothered to restrain PIJ either.

767 novanglus  Tue, Jun 24, 2008 7:10:25am

My wife is an intellectual property attorney, and after seeing the modified seal, her first reaction was "he will hear from the White House to cease and desist". We didn't bother to check to see if the actual seal is a registered Trademark, but it still seems to be a de facto one. We're pretty sure that the White House Counsel's Office probably contacted the Obama campaign and suggested they never use it again, unless they wanted to be publicly embarrassed.

Probably another example of the Republicans being too civilizes to compete with the party formerly known as Democrat, but more accurately seen as Socialist.

I'm not sure "throwing under the bus" is the right terminology to use when Obama succumbs to pressure. Maybe "fold like a cheep suit" ?
No that doesn't really work either.

What do you call a "man" that "cave"s in to the slightest pressure? There must be a simple, descriptive, term we could use to describe a MAN that would CAVE under pressure.

Maybe there is such a phrase that isn't too politically incorrect to use.
"Under the bus Man?"
"Fold Man?"
"Cheep Suit Man?"
No... Not quite right.

I'll keep working on it. Maybe you can help me come up with a fitting term for a "Man" that "Caves"?
