Islamic Nations Push to Restrict Free Speech

Tue, Jun 24, 2008 at 10:55:02 am PDT

Our pals in Saudi Arabia and the other Islamic nations that make up the world’s biggest organization of whiny crybabies are really pushing the “Islamophobia” hoax, in order to criminalize free speech in any Western nation gullible enough to fall for it.

Luckily, Denmark isn’t one; Danish courts rejected a suit against Jyllands-Posten by an Islamic front group, over the dreaded cartoons of blasphemy.

And this sets the crybabies off, of course.

The Saudi-based OIC, the largest grouping of Muslim countries, said the ruling could encourage “Islamophobia”, a fear or dislike of Islam, which the group has identified as existing in the West.

“The Danish ruling came as a surprise to the OIC at a time when almost all Western governments including the USA had made categorical statements rejecting any linkage between Islam and terrorism,” the OIC said.

“The linkage drawn by the Danish court ... could create a precedent for exacerbation of Islamophobia.”

Many Muslims regard depictions of the Prophet as blasphemous. The Islamic Faith Society, one of the groups that brought the lawsuit against the Danish newspaper, said it might take its case to the European Court of Human Rights.

I think the connection between Islamism and Islam should be obvious. Maybe if the Mohammedans quit, you know, killing infidels...

Yeah, outlaw that.

I honestly believe that is the source for Obama's gaffe. At the time he misspoke, the OIC was having a major conference, and the phrase, "the 57 Muslim states" was floating around in the media.
Then again, the #57 could have been sheer coincidence.
Or Obama could be putting strange sauces on his waffles.

34 hazzyday  Tue, Jun 24, 2008 11:08:32am

I've gone from liking Islam to disliking Islam over the years. It is my least favorite Religion atm. I used to view it as a peaceful religion with a few violent kooks in it. Now I think I recognize it for what it is, a medieval oppressive system of state thought that generates a significant amount of hate in the world. And this hate that consumes the minority 100 million is given silent consent and a free pass by the other 900 million. There are probably less than 100,000 muslims (my guess) that have a peaceful, active, moderate approach to life.

I meet moderate muslims but if pressed on Israel they begin to seethe.

We put our violent religous kooks to death when they transgress into the free society. Islam venerates them.

35 Maine's Michael  Tue, Jun 24, 2008 11:09:04am

Who would have thought that denying (or even criticizing) the Muslim desire to hate and destroy Jews and other non-believers would be seen as a denial of their (the Muslim's) human rights, and a manifestation of 'Islamophobia'?

The Muslims really, really have this cultural/legal judo trick down cold.

Black becomes white. Up becomes down. 'Settlements' becoem worse thatn mass murder. Minority (in the mid-east) Israelis/Jews become majority 'oppressors'; David becomes Goliath, and Goliath becomes Jesus, crucified by the Jews.

MUslims are not good or even brave fighters, but they are the world's best liars and obfuscaters, bar none.

Well actually, Mr. Shitforbrains, you Islamic left hands have done a pretty good job of that without any help from "Islamophobia", which, by the way, your ilk instigated.

BTW, what exactly is there to like about Eslam?

I've seen it defined, in legal parlance, as "an act of God".

I've also heard it used (50 years ago) in a context which implied an unstoppable, irresistible, force.

Do both apply, particularly the latter?

It's scary to think these batshit religious followers will be protected from criticism, be in Islamic or otherwise. I could make fun of televangelists and Scientologists all day long. Oddly enough, they have not formed groups of... say... suicide bombers. Are they whiny? Sure. Nuttier than a shithouse rat? Of course. Money-grubbing opportunists? Stellar examples. But violent? Rarely.

Somehow, I just can't picture Tom Cruise strapping a suicide belt to himself and going all 'splodey because yet another person mocked his Xenu beliefs. I can't picture the likes of Jimmy Swaggart luring people to some revival, then using his piano as an explosive device to murder as many fans as possible. Nope, just don't see it.

But publish some cartoons that depict crazy religious followers doing their typical (and well-documented) crazy religious stuff, and it's a freakin' international outrage.

Not.

I'm actually not so worried about the threats to me, but rather the more serious threats to the buildings that physically house the server computers where the Archive is hosted.

Some of the jihadists have gotten very sophisticated, and they are now sending REAL threats not just to me but instead to the landlord of the server farm building! They really did their research. It has caused me no end of problems.

Notice that all the Archive pages including the main page have a "zombietime" domain URL...

...but the "Extreme Mohammed" has a completely different domain URL (challenging-islam dot org). This is because The mega-corporation that owns the server farm building received so many credible bomb threats to the building -- citing the Extreme Mohammed page as the cause -- that they gave me 12 hours to delete the "Extreme" directory or face having my whole domain removed from their servers. (And thanks to an unnamed lizard for offering to host the banned page! I won't reveal your name unless you choose to take a bow yourself.)

I understand their position -- they have their employees' safety to keep in mind -- but it is a bitch that the jihadis had a minor victory in this battle.

Everything looks calm on the surface of the internet, but behind the scenes, a very real cyber-war is raging.

Well, I couldn't say if they were legitimate fatwas from preachers. But since there is no structured religious hierarchy in Islam, anybody can deem themselves an expert in Islamic law and issue a fatwa, if they want to.

The vast majority of the "fatwa"-style emails are in a different character-encoding (Arabic generally), so I don't even know what they say. I generally just toss them wholesale into the email trash. The typical one looks like this:

Former U.S. officer training Hamas military

GAZA CITY — U.S. volunteers with military backgrounds have been recruited to help train the new Hamas army in the Gaza Strip.

Palestinian sources said one of the Americans was former U.S. Army captain Fares Al Ashi.
"This information is important for the youth," Al Ashi said during a briefing to visiting journalists in Gaza City.

The sources said Al Ashi, a specialist in explosives and weapons, had been trained in South Carolina during his years with the U.S. military.

Well, you can have a gun in Illinois, but it's hard to get. They make you get a FOID card, and there is no concealed carry, and no unconcealed carry. Then you have a few state legislators who want to raise the fee for the FOID card to an obscene amount, thinking it'll cut down on gun crime.

BTW, you can't even be in posession of ammunition in Illinois without a FOID card. Not a gun, just effin ammo.

Note: don't buy anymore imported beer unless it's from Canada.
Another note: Especially don't buy imported beer in green bottles.

Beer butt chicken!
Take a clean whole chicken and a blend of rosemary, salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika (or tumeric) sage and thyme.
Rub the spices all over the outside of the bird and put a few inside the beer.
Place the beer on a cookie sheet in the oven, place the bird over the beer and roast at 350' for 1 hour 15 minutes or until the leg joint moves easily.
Beer makes all the difference, as it steams inside the bird, keeping it tender and also the upright position of the bird allows all chicken fat to drop off and away from the bird.

I don't know - Israel didn't give any signs when it attacked the Syrian facility. The first signs of an attack might be the smoke rising from Natanz or missiles inbound on Iraq. Then again, it could be a spate of mysterious crashes of Iranian aircraft or buses carrying important personnel. There are several ways to disrupt the Iranian nuclear program, and don't require overt military operations involving hundreds of aircraft either. Sabotage of the centrifuge cascades may also be a consideration.

Destroying the physical facility is important, but getting at the scientists who are involved is also important since they can replicate their tasks with sufficient time and effort.

Still, it would be nice if the world realizes and faces up to a threat posed by Iran's possession of nuclear weapons instead of accepting yet another round of negotiations that gives the mullahs more time to let the centrifuges spin.

That's been my opinion. Take out the facilities, it's a 5 years set back. Take out the brains, it's a 20 year set back. Totalitarian regimes have a habit of not trusting folks so all the brains are likely very localized, probably even within one compound close to the facility.

I'm trying to think of a tasty carnivore I've eaten... only shark comes to mind. What (briefly) are the "other issues", out of curiosity?

Internal parasites are a major concern. Bear and wild hog are major carriers of the little trichinosis worms. Opossums (scary spelling) and raccoons are at high risk of rabies (although I have had BBQ raccoon and it was pretty danged tasty). Rabbit, squirrel, deer, elk, moose are pretty safe, although if it's the wrong time of year you need to watch out for EXTERNAL parasites, esp. ticks.

Ocean carnivores are kind of a different story; I am sorry to have been such a "landist". ;)

US military chief to visit Israel for talks on Iran

The head of America's armed forces will make a hastily-arranged visit to Israel this week, fuelling speculation about a possible Washington-sanctioned Israeli attack on Iran's nuclear programme.

Admiral Michael Mullen, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, will use a rest day during a planned tour of Europe to meet with his Israeli opposite number, Lieutenant General Gabi Ashkenazi.

It is understood the rest day was to have been spent in Europe but at the last moment he decided to fly to Israel for talks, with the Iranian nuclear question at the top of the agenda.

Dobson and Minnery accused Obama of wrongly equating Old Testament texts and dietary codes that no longer apply to Jesus' teachings in the New Testament.

"I think he's deliberately distorting the traditional understanding of the Bible to fit his own worldview, his own confused theology," Dobson said.

"... He is dragging biblical understanding through the gutter."

Hopefully, Dobson will change his mind about not voting in the presidential election. If he doesn't (as he said he wouldn't when McCain got the nod), then he and all the other evangelicals who follow him will be responsible for putting Obama in the WH.

Plans within plans - and appearances are deceiving. Make the Iranians think that the US is going to act, or Israel is going to act, and soon, to flush the Iranians into doing something that they wouldn't have otherwise done. Or to get them to look in the wrong direction - instead of attacking from Israel - the attack comes from a completely unexpected direction. Etc.

Got to get the Congress back...

Edd Hendee's talk show with Pat Gray had a list of everything the Congresscritters "did" in January, like "work" ten-minute days, spend a week with no results other than proclamations, etc.

It was horrifying to think what that time-wasting cost.

Meanwhile, Rome is burning, at least figuratively.

McClellan brings Bush critique to Seattle

Ex-Bush spokesman Scott McClellan received a warm reception Monday from a Town Hall Seattle crowd -- much warmer than he would have received in this liberal city prior to his penning a scathing White House memoir.

[snip]

"He's not one to acknowledge mistakes," McClellan said. Bush, he added, "still clings to the belief that 30, 40, 50 years from now, history is going to vindicate him. ... It's self-deception."

The great thing about paranoid conspiracy theorists like our enemies is that since they are always attempting complicated four part plots that have no chance of succeeding they assume everyone else is also. The only difference is that they believe the other guys (secretly backed by super clever joooos) can succeed. This drives them to even greater paroxysms of self destructive behavior in the name of 'security.' With any luck we get them to kill themselves off and conquer the remains with the Red Cross and police on overtime.

Absolutely. If an attack of some sort comes, it is not being telegraphed by anything Israel is doing.

But I still believe as long as Rice is at State, if an American CJCoS is changing plans to speedily head for Israel it is not to further any such attack mission.

How about Democrats?

Actually, Israel is certainly not guilty of Americaphobia, but the rest of the Mideast is guilty of Israelaophobia.
Oh, wait, a phobia is an irrational fear; Israel has kicked every Arab army's ass, so they have some basis for their fear. Of course, if they would stop attacking Israel, there would be nothing to fear. Except an example of a successful Jewish state, more successful than any Arab state. That is threating to Islam.

This whole thing is going to soon become moot.

Any day soon you will wake up to news that it is too late because Iran has already proved it is a nuclear power.

And all our "leaders" will first feign surprise and then raise their hands in exasperation at their inability to now change anything.

Yeah, it's a great ruling and they're right - it was Osama's crew that linked Islam and terrorism by attacking WTC twice (1993 and 2001) in the name of Islam, plus all the other Al'Queda attacks... and as there has been no major fatwas against these acts or the groups behind them, we have to assume that most of the islamic world support or at least tolerate the use of terror in the name of Islam and that makes them accomplices and thus partners in crime, justifying and solidifying the link between Islam and terror.

Islamophobia is not on a list of phobias known to any real psychologist. However, note how this fake affliction is now being redefined as "fear or dislike" of Islam by the authors of this article, conveniently listed as "correspondents in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia" for al-Reuters. That's called moving the goal post (for a phony phobia at that). The next redefinition could be, "fear or dislike or rejection of Islamic principles" ... starting to sound like apostates and infidels in general have this mental disorder.
