Yes, I maxed the machine out when I started having problems -- went from the min (256 MB) to the max... Had little to no effect on the performance problems I am having. When I play this video (which played fine a few months ago), at best it'll play fine until I just move the mouse -- then it gets choppy.

It took me from when you posted to me to just now to load the page and copy/paste the link.

A Nigerian couple who immigrated to Austin a decade ago thought they had finally made it in America. On May 7, they closed on their first home in the States, buying a $283,000 Cedar Park house that had been headed for foreclosure.

It seemed like a good deal to Bobo and Joy Dickson. They did everything right, they thought. They got a mortgage lender, signed the papers, had the title put in their name .

But on May 14, they came home from work at their janitorial services company to find that all their furniture, family heirlooms, personal photos, clothes, even their daughter's piggybank, had disappeared.

After filing a theft report with the Cedar Park Police Department, the Dicksons were given the news. In a mix-up over whether the home was still facing foreclosure, Field Asset Services was hired to drill open the doors and seize the belongings.

Last week, Bobo Dickson, who owns the janitorial services company, said the family felt "violated. ... My family has gone through a lot, especially the kids, (who are 7 and 3). I don't have an answer to give them that would comfort them."

Cedar Park police officials said Field Asset Services told them that it carried out orders from a mortgage firm and that the Dicksons' belongings had been donated to area thrift shops. But a search of such shops turned up nothing.

SNIP

It has been 61/2 weeks since Field Asset Services cleared out the Dickson house.

Cedar Park police and the Dicksons have questioned Field Asset to find out where the belongings were taken.

Both said they were told that the Dickson property was split up among various area Goodwills, but police officers were unable to verify that claim, said Capt. Mike Harman of the Cedar Park Police Department.

The police officer on duty spoke to operations supervisor Ashley Nipper at Field Asset, and according to the report, she said she didn't understand "what the big deal was," and that the company had an order from the mortgage company.

Justice Stephen Breyer wrote a separate dissent in which he said, "In my view, there simply is no untouchable constitutional right guaranteed by the Second Amendment to keep loaded handguns in the house in crime-ridden urban areas."

Why on earth would a person want to keep a handgun in his home in a crime-ridden urban area?

Mornin' lizards ...

Had a survey phone call from SMUD (Sacramento Metropolitan Utility District) this am.  Woke me out of a sound sleep but the woman's voice was just nice enough that I didn't mind answering the questions.  Normally I'm not much for a telephone survey.  Plus they dangled the possibility of a $250.00 gas card before me; I admit to whoring for petrochemicals from time to time.

Had a moment of intense delight when the asked me to identify my home page (LGF), but due consideration made me tell them none of their business.

Anyway, a LOT of questions about squiggle bulbs (hate them, don't know what we're going to do with all the mercury, would rather have LEDs if we have to get rid of the incandescent bulbs -- my favorites -- and so on), my religious leanings and how much I believe in the young earth/creatinist (not a typo) crapola, if I'd be willing to pay for indulgences to take care of my carbon footprint (they can blow me), and if I believe I'm entitled to as much energy as I can pay for (fark yeah!), etc.

WTF?  From all appearances, the local utility company is investing heavily in pseudoscience and can this scene be far behind?

Repeating from previous thread, wait until law abiding black citizens in Washington DC can legally purchase weapons to keep to feel safer in their homes. Watch crime go down in crappy neighborhoods where decent folks have been trapped by heat-packing gangstas for 40 years.

Plenty of urban DC kids go to ROTC, so there are DC residents who are poor, black & know how to properly use & care for weapons. They are now liberated to defend themselves, hurray!

re: #37 Charles

Yeah, the C minor is pretty heavy stuff indeed. I had to shut it off -- it was gothicking me out.

I think my favorite "heavy" orchestral recording is Bernstein with the Chicago Symphony doing Shostakovich 1 and 7. The end of the 7th Symphony is some of the finest playing that the CSO has ever put to disc.

Shostakovich's official statement for the premiere in 1942 contained the following:

"I dedicated my Seventh Symphony to our fight against fascism, to our coming victory over the enemy, and to my native city of Leningrad."

Heavy stuff in deed. Although his 7th Symphony can sound as chipper as a Spice Girls tune next to his 7th String Quartet. Now that is dark (and hauntingly beautiful).

The other part in that equation is use of force guidelines, and case law. Many states have a "duty to retreat" meaning if a guy breaks in and you have a clear way out, you must retreat first. Some states like WA have no duty to retreat, or even better if someone breaks in the home owner can actively confront the perp.

I thing DC won't be friendly to self defense scenarios. It will be limited to extremis situations.

Next Stop, Supreme Court?

If Obama were to promise Clinton the first court vacancy, her supporters would actually have a stronger incentive to support him for president than they would if she were going to be vice president. Given the Supreme Court's delicate liberal-conservative balance, she would play a major role in charting the country's future; there is no guarantee that a Clinton vice presidency would achieve such importance.

For those of you who have expressed an interest, I will be sending out the updated info after the 4th of July weekend.

I will need a more-or-less final headcount by July 19th; that doesn't mean we can't fit more people at the last minute, it means that, while we always make more food than is needed, it might end up just a touch stretched if we're expecting 12, and 30 show.

What a tune and what an album! My band had the privilege of recording a couple of tracks with Steve Gadd who is the drummer on that album. He was one of the best musicians I have ever worked with and was as nice of man as you will ever meet. The man sings through the drum set. Just amazing.

Can you imagine coming home to find EVERYTHING gone?

The Dicksons said some of their belongings were irreplaceable: the trunk of traditional African wedding attire and jewelry that had been passed along to Joy when she became Bobo's bride; the original scripts that Joy, a screenwriter, had created. Then there was a dollar bill that was tucked inside Grace's piggybank.

The bill was sentimental because Grace wanted a laptop computer and offered to give the dollar to her mother, wondering if it would help in the purchase. Joy said she was touched and wrote on the bill: "Trust God for more." Then she slipped the dollar back into the piggybank. Later, they were able to purchase that laptop.

If you have to shoot someone, empty the gun.  Don't shoot them, pick up your cell phone to call the cops, shoot them again, dial the cell phone, shoot them again, etc.  It has to look like you were scared to death and just reacted to the situation.

If you shoot someone in the doorway of your house and they fall back out, drag their body back in.

Another friend of mine lives across the river in West Sacramento (Yolo County).  Sacramento County is almost impossible to get a carry license in, so what he does when he comes over here is stick a .22 target pistol in his back pocked with some wadded up targets, etc., and ammo in a front pocket.  He says that way if he's ever caught with them, he can claim he forgot to remove them when he was coming back from target practice.

Why make men out to be clueless and not interested in creating a family & carrying on their own genes? Don't you believe in evolution? This is the bottom line! Western Civilization is at stake. Western Civilization ought to expect every man to do his duty.

Let the wussy Caliphaters play with themselves & avoid women & family formation all their life. Let the Caliphaters be the playboys with diseases, or pining for 72 imaginary women. Western men ought to be able to get along with & marry women--this is a basic fundamental civilization building block. Think of pioneer families with few extended support networks. Nuclear families are us!

Westerners ought to want to preserve the fabulous civilization so many fought to create & save for us.

Fortunately WA, is pretty good on self defense. If their in your home the average person only has to feel threatened, in your home at 2:00 am in the dark that's and easy threshold. I don't recall any home owner being prosecuted for shooting an intruder.

Last summer a mentally disturbed individual randomly attacked and began beating someone in downtown Seattle. After the victim was on the ground being kicked, he drew and fired killing the attacker. It was ruled justified even with the prep being unarmed.

For me the standard is going to be higher, I've been LE trained and that will factor into a decision.

re: #143 EC Marm

There's a huge difference between the house flipper who buys, tears down, fixes, extends, rebuilds, and actually improves the value of the home and those that bought expecting double digit appreciation for doing absolutely nothing. People in Florida were buying a second and third home because of the price appreciation. Then the bottom dropped out. I don't want them bailed out. Primary residence only, income limits, family size considerations, etc.

But the problem is that even people that bought a fixer upper were always depending on 2 incomes and many bought to the max they could with an "arm" when they could have bought a less of a house that was not at there limit and got a very low fixed rate mortgage.

re: #177 n in wi

Not really.

The main questions - from my POV, anyway - all stem from the observation that marriage is for the preservation of property and the protection of children, historically. How does gay marriage help or hurt that? Is it even relevant in the present era? Does the state still have an interest in promoting marriage? Given that married men - even without children, even when they are not the main provider for the household - behave better and are better citizens, is that an argument for gay men (in particular) to be married?

I don't necessarily have answers, and I'm not going to argue with people about it. But I think that it's up to gay people to make their case to the rest of society. I don't think it can be done through the courts.

I think a overlooked and under appreciated aspect of marriage is that it is a privilege extended to promote{not mandate } the creation of the next generation of Americans. We only have our culture to bind us. Unlike other nations that most have the same nationality,or triable allegiance,we are bound by our culture, which should be preserved.
Marriage is not a prerequisite to procreation, but the evidence is clear {at least to me} on the advantages of the family unit .

Actually, I got very good test scores, top tier, even on the physical portion. I got dinged on the oral interviews, 3 times now, different agencies.
They don't tell you why. It is "pass-fail".

Orals can be tough. If you know someone who is in an agency and can buy 'em lunch go over the questions and answers.

The biggest stumbling block for folks is trying give an answer you think the want, rather than what you think and why. The other is getting rattled on an opinion and backtracking. Stick with an answer back it up, and say if I have facts to make me change my opinion I'll revise my answer.

They are not looking for "correct" answers they are looking for thought process, evaluation of information skills and honesty.

Ask if the agency you're interested in does ride alongs.

Here's small consolation, but you take what you can get sometimes:

They've got to know, laying next to each other at night, that they can never actually ever trust each other.  He's a liar and a cheat, she's an opportunist willing to go after bigger game.  They can be only as true to each other as they've been to other people, which means not at all.  That's got to be a major wound in the 'relationship'.

The only relationship I ever want to be in again is one where I know I can trust the person I'm with.  Not trusting another person enough to be able to turn my back on them did a lot to further bad things in myself.  Never again, you know?

This is directed to the godess..
You know earlier i read one of your posts and i went and googled
my mom's name..she passed 2-14-2008. Suddenly from cancer.
As a great athlete she played ball, golfed in the 50's and sixties..
about 5 years ago i finally beat her on the golf course..
I am reminded of a time when i was like 10 years old and we were playing ball . I threw a fit.. My mom pulled me aside and said to me "
I don't care how bad you are losing.. i don't care how impossible the odds are.. i don't care if you are hurt..
As my son you will never ever be a bad sport..do you hear me.. ever."
My mom was and still is my hero..and i've made up my mind to write something in Wikki about her..( not one word in google.)
You as strong women..raising children can have the most impactful, world changing influence on your children..
You are your children's hero..
kind regards

Coincidentally, I downloaded that off of iTunes not long ago. I was nineteen when Elegant Gypsy came out, and all I did was cop licks from it and practice scales for the following year or two. LOL!

BTW: Go to my blog for a link to MP3's of the second (of three) Heavy Nylon demo. I got a bitchin' take of Eric Johnson's Desert Song this time, and I think you might like Prelude no. 23 too.

80 Freedombilly

When I was at Berklee in the 80's, every drummer there wanted to be Gadd. You were lucky to get to work with him! The way he tunes his toms is so tasty. Nobody else sounds like that.

I have almost all of Tommy's stuff on my iPhone, but I have to admit to deleting the tracks with vocals.

Too bad we can't have these music posts just for us musicians and music lovers. I mean, the first freaking post was OT!
