Kos Throws Obama Under the Bus

Tue, Jul 1, 2008 at 1:05:27 pm PDT

Markos “Screw Them” Moulitsas will be withholding his money from Barack Obama until Obama toes the progressive line: Daily Kos: Rewarding good behavior.

Maybe what looks like cowering to me is really part of that “moving to the center” stuff everyone keeps talking about. But there is a line between “moving to the center” and stabbing your allies in the back out of fear of being criticized. And, of late, he’s been doing a lot of unecessary stabbing, betraying his claims of being a new kind of politician. Not that I ever bought it, but Obama is now clearly not looking much different than every other Democratic politician who has ever turned his or her back on the base in order to prove centrist bona fides. That’s not an indictment, just an observation.

Now I know there’s a contingent around here that things Obama can do no wrong, and he must never be criticized, and if you do, well f*ck you! I respect the sentiment, but will respectfully disagree.

Because nothing says “respect” like a hearty “f*ck you!”

Uh-oh. If Kos isn't supporting him, this dramatically increases Obama's chances of winning.

Yes, in that exact way. F*ck off, baby!

Uh-oh. If Kos isn't supporting him, this dramatically increases Obama's chances of winning.

Kos'll vote for Obama. Because everything John McCain ever did to enhance "bipartisanship" has earned him a backstab. It's the Democrat Way™

And Pat Paulsen is dead.

10 quickjustice  Tue, Jul 1, 2008 1:09:41pm

When Kos says "Jump!", Obama had better respond, "How high?"

16 MJ  Tue, Jul 1, 2008 1:10:49pm

This is a ploy. Obama needed to distance himself from the Jew-haters and anti-American fruit cakes that post at KOS. Kos is just giving Obama that distance.

17 Honorary Yooper  Tue, Jul 1, 2008 1:11:06pm

This is quite the shocker since during the primaries, Kos had his nose so far up Obama's butt that he could see the light coming on Obama's mouth. He should've also known better with Obama. What else did he expect from a Chicago Machine hack?

Really? So when you acted like you did, that was just an end-justifies-means sort of thing to get other people to vote Obama? Or do you just not want to look silly in retrospect?

21 Killgore Trout  Tue, Jul 1, 2008 1:11:55pm

Well despite the hearty f*ck you, I think this is a positive sign. Obama has waffled and flipped and reversed his position so frequently, and had to separate himself from some criminal and dubious supporters in order to present an acceptable image, that perhaps Markos Kos now sees him a bit more clearly.

I have to give some respect to Kos for this one. He is the first person that I know of to admit that he didn't like Obama for any of that different-kind-of-politician-we'll-bring-everyone- together crap that no one with any sense believed (but millions of Obama supporters do or at least say they do) but rather that because he is (or was, in Kos' eyes) a far-left liberal redistributionist. 93 Ringo the Gringo  Tue, Jul 1, 2008 1:26:18pm

Here's the opinion of another Kos kiddie :

Remember the primary season? It wasn't that long ago.

You spent hours at the phonebanks. You donated until your bank account was empty. You wore the t-shirts and the buttons; you proudly planted a sign in your hard; you stuck a bumpersticker on your car. Maybe two. You played that will.i.am video over and over and over again.

You admired him for his principles. You admired him for his convictions. You thought he was brave to take a stand against the Iraq war way back in 2002, when almost all the other Democrats -- including the other Democratic candidates -- hid behind their fear of being labeled "unpatriotic."

You fought against the Clinton supporters. You answered their concerns about the strength of Obama's convictions by quoting his books and providing links to his website.

Obama wasn't like the others, you said. He is not beholden to special interests. He is not on the payroll of the lobbyists. He is not afraid to take an unpopular position. Obama is not a coward; he is a leader.

You didn't want to hear the concerns. Or you didn't think they were valid. Or you didn't think they mattered, since Obama was still the best candidate in the field and infinitely better than McCain.

Some disagreed. Some didn't think he was the best candidate in the field. But that doesn't matter now. Short of replacing Obama with another nominee at the August convention, he's our choice. He's your choice.

And most of us, even the ones who weren't in love with him, fell in line once he secured the nomination.

I know I did.

And now there is disappointment? Now there is frustration? Because he is moving to the center, because he is making politically expedient decisions?

Of course he is. He's a politician running for president. The next six months are going to be about framing and positioning and yes, pandering. The next six months are not going to be about ideals or convictions or brave stances. The next six months are going to be devoted to winning the White House.

Complain if you want. Complain if it makes you feel better. Complain if you think it makes a difference.

But really, does it? Do you really think you are the ones he's trying to persuade in the general election? Do you think Obama is going to move further to the left now, after he has already won your endorsement? I don't.

Right, 'cause Mikey Moore lives in a poor, mostly black neighborhood in New York. I'm sure of it.

The only problem is that a fair amount of progressives agree with Kos' rejection based on ideological purity.

A true Leninist would vote for Obama. It's the "useful idiot" strategy. A Trotskyite, the pure ideologues, on the other hand, would tend to gravitate toward Ralph Nadar or Róger Calero. I don't see Markos in that camp. He thinks he's smarter and more clever than everyone else...kind of like Obama himself in that regard.

If you believe that kos doesn't support Obama, I have a bridge to sell you.

BHO wants to win so bad that by Oct. he'll be to the right of Margaret Thatcher (in speech not in belief).

Part of that strategy is to get caustic leftist like the kos to disassociate themselves from the messiah. That way independents can say, maybe Obama isn's so radical after all, the kos-kids don't support him.

Unfortunately the memo didn't get in time to Castro and Qadhafi and other radical leaders of the world that already gave statements in support of Obama.

That said, I think it is kind of funny that the hard left is beginning to have buyers remorse. I guess they thought that Obama was a new kind of politician.

There is no new type of politician. Since before the fall of Troy it has always been the same. Politicians and theives are artists of the possible. Watch their deeply held beliefs fly out the hybrid-SUV window as soon as they become a liability.

145 Peter Verkooijen  Tue, Jul 1, 2008 1:41:35pm

Wikipedia (I know, I should avoid that site...) quotes from Dreams From My Father:

Obama noted in the book that it was Ann rather than his natural father who taught him about his African American heritage.

"She would come home with books on the civil rights movement, the recordings of Mahalia Jackson, the speeches of Dr. King. When she told me stories of schoolchildren in the South who were forced to read books handed down from wealthier white schools but who went on to become doctors and lawyers and scientists, I felt chastened by my reluctance to wake up and study in the mornings… Every black man was Thurgood Marshall or Sidney Poitier; every black woman Fannie Lou Hamer or Lena Horne. To be black was to be the beneficiary of a great inheritance, a special destiny, glorious burdens that only we were strong enough to bear."[25]
...

This underlines another problem with Obama. He's a totally fake "African American"! He's only African American for political reasons. He was raised mostly by his white (communist) mother and grandparents. His father was not a descendant of slaves in America, but an elite government bureaucrat from Africa. Obama is playing a role, exploiting that 'great inheritance, special destiny, glorious burdens that only we were strong enough to bear'.

Red Hook in the good old days could have inspired this:

Major Strasser: Are you one of those people who cannot imagine the Germans in their beloved Paris?
Rick: It's not particularly my beloved Paris.
Heinz: Can you imagine us in London?
Rick: When you get there, ask me!
Captain Renault: Hmmh! Diplomatist!
Major Strasser: How about New York?
Rick: Well there are certain sections of New York, Major, that I wouldn't advise you to try to invade.

Hey that's good!

205 EE  Tue, Jul 1, 2008 1:52:09pm

The quick-change artist Mr. Flip-Flop is going to have a lot more flip-flops before the campaign is over. He will say and do anything to get the power of being President and Commander in Chief. He started out in left field. He was a Marxist in college and he was a supporter for 20 years of the anti-American and anti-white racist Jeremiah Wright. He'll end up sounding like he is in the center. And because talk is cheap and Obama will say and do anything to get elected, he might even end up -- verbally, not with any deeds, of course -- even to the right of McCain. But it's all a fraud. Obama is a left-wing extremist, and this quick-change flip-flopping is just a show for the gullible folks who are easily suckered by him.

Obama knows that the radical left, Markos included, have nowhere to go. They have nobody to vote for but Obama, so BHO doesn't have to pay any attention at all to the left. No matter what Kos says or threatens. What's Kos gonna do, vote for McCain? The radical left is completely in the hands of Obama, they have nowhere to go.

Now we'll see where the quick-change artist will go next -- verbally only, of course. Obama may be the world's greatest liar and faker. He says it all without laughing, and with pretend indignation also that anybody should think that he didn't have these positions all along.

The man who knows Obama best outed Obama for anybody who is not blinded or terminally gullible: Obama is a politician, and he says and does what politicians do, in order to get elected.

Come to think of it, Bob flew 23 combat missions and completed 22. He was shot down, tortured, put in a POW camp, tortured, offered release when they discovered that he was actually Bob III, he refused, tortured, released years later, and went on to finish a career in the Navy.

But none of that matters, because a Army guy who commanded an air war for a month said so.

So funny. KOS's man of change, who just changed back into what we all told them he was all along, an ordinary politician.

Kos is so desperate to be a "player" that he put all of his marbles on obambi.
He knows that obambi won the primary mostly on the basis of caucuses, which do not reflect the will of the majority of the voters.
Just the ones who have time to spend several hours at a caucus ie college kids/non employed/irresponsible people.
Regular working people with kids cannot devote that kind of time, especially in the evening to a caucus vote.

If obambi pisses off the base, is he tamps down the enthusiasm, then he will lose in November.
By moving to the center, that is just what will happen.
And Kos will NOT be a player with a Republican President, nor would he have been in a Clinton Administration.

This is all about Kos imo.

I was in no shape to realize I needed to get to the hospital. I should have died. I remember how much I had before I blacked out—it was over the limit for fatality. My blood pressure was usually about 120/80. Two weeks after the incident, I had mine checked: 250/180.

Not that I ever bought it, but Obama is now clearly not looking much different than every other Democratic politician who has ever turned his or her back on the base in order to prove centrist bona fides. That’s not an indictment, just an observation.

Bwahahaha!

And Kos, you're an @#$hole.

Haven't you learned by now that the first virtue of politics is loyalty? Haven't you been talking this guy Obama up for months?

For someone that's supposed to be a high-ranking Dem insider/strategist, Kos seems remarkably ignorant about what it takes to win a national election.

Hint: Leftists don't win. I'll leave the segment of the political spectrum that is most attractive to voters as an exercise for Koslings.

I really really hope that Kos gets his way and has an effect on Obama. Because Obama's very visible (transparent, actually) "move to the center" actually has made me a bit worried. He's been abandoning his Marxist principles so rapidly over the last month that I was afraid he'd actually be able to re-brand himself for the general election, and act like a normal politician, not a race-baiting far-left sleeper agent.

But Kos will withhold his support until Obama returns to his socialist roots.

Go Kos go!

not looking much different than every other Democratic politician who has ever turned his or her back on the base in order to prove centrist bona fides

Classy.

I have to admit, I'm always amused and even disgusted by those arrogant folks on both the far-left and on the far-right of the political spectrum who insist on self-identifying as "the base" and demand that the presumptive candidate cater to their agenda. You try to tell them that people are tired of gridlock in Washington and are moving towards moderate politics and they self-implode... they simply cannot accept that their pet ideology does not have special interest status.

They always threaten to withhold $ to make the candidate bend to their whims... always.

It's hard for me to laugh at Kos here when I see people doing the same thing on the right with their McCain animus, in all honestly. All I have to do is change a single word in the above paragraph and it will look just like something I've seen on a lot of otherwise respectable "conservative" blogs lately:

not looking much different than every other Democratic politician RINO who has ever turned his or her back on the base in order to prove centrist bona fides

re: #25 Diamond Bullet

Interesting point - the cohooting between DKos and the Hollow Man about his birth certificate made them seem cozy as lice. Could be a PR stunt, or perhaps just a lovers' spat.

I think it's a ploy being pushed by many of the left wing blogs. They engage in some public raging at Obama for leaving the fold, and post lots of helpful article links to emphasize Obama's
"real" "moderate" beliefs and policies.

Many of their followers have been mimicking this strategy on a smaller level. The focus is not to split with Obama, but to ensure voters notice that Obama's policies are centrist or even right of center on some issues. Obama HAD to distance himself from kos and the radical left before this fall. This farce is ACT I of the ongoing makeover to discredit criticism of Obama's radical left wing alliances.

They are both angry. They both have a tendency to become profane and violent when others don't submit to their will. They both hate America, Israel, Zionism and generally Jews as a whole, free speech, individual responsibility and civilization. They are both losers.

I would love to take a peak at those comments at koskiddies place. Did anyone get to see them before they were shut down?

393 tradewind  Tue, Jul 1, 2008 7:12:33pm
....if you do, well f*ck you! I respect the sentiment, but will respectfully disagree

.
Either he's dumber than I had previously thought, or it's drugs. Markos' Oxymoronic/quixotic statement makes no sense, even viewed through the filter of moonbat logic.... wait, that's oxymoronic itself........oh, ya'll know what I mean.....dammit.....

I've had four begging-for-donations emails for BHO in my junk mailbox today alone.....
things must be tightening up......

KOS kooks are not satisfied unless they are seethingly mad at someone. They can only live by wishing death on someone else. It is just a shame that BHO is the object of their wrath. He ain't never done nothing to deserve it,,,teehee.

Not that I ever bought it,

Oh, yes you did! You really thought that he was the messiah, didn't ya?

LMFAO

(I think that I pulled something.)

THANK YOU for this. I was having a terrible day and can't believe that I ended it by laughing so hard.

397 IowaInfidel  Tue, Jul 1, 2008 8:31:54pm
Not that I ever bought it, but Obama is now clearly not looking much different than every other Democratic politician who has ever turned his or her back on the base in order to prove centrist bona fides.

Such deep insight! He's just now figuring out that a politician acts like a, uh, politician? How's his gig going at Time or Newsweak, or whatever idiotic magazine hired him, I wonder?

Now I know there’s a contingent around here that things Obama can do no wrong, and he must never be criticized, and if you do, well f*ck you!

Maybe he meant it like this:

Now I know there’s a contingent around here that thinks Obama can do no wrong, and he must never be criticized. If you do criticize him, well f*ck you!

So, Kozo the Clown doesn't support Obama's political positions?

Does that make Kos a racist?

404 Ledger1  Wed, Jul 2, 2008 2:14:49am

[MarKos and his Senior Kos Diarist KidKos]

MarKos: I will not be donating the $2,300 to that Effing back-stabber Obama unless he kisses my boots!

KidKos: I really thought MarkKos wanted the ObamaMessiah on be on top as bad as me. I decided to confront him, point blank and face to face.

Give it to me straight, MarKos” I demanded. “What in the name of Ted Kennedy is going on here?”

MarKos: “I’m saying you’ve been played like a pawn shop fiddle, KidKos. Set up. Conned. Gotten the greased Shaft.”

KidKos: “What are you implying Markos?”

MarKos: “Snookered. Bamboozled. Flimflammed. They sold you a first class ticket to the Soros A$$wipe hunt on the Gullible Express.”

KidKos: “And so you’re saying….”

MarKos: “You’ve been duped, KidKos. Fooled. Had. You were wedgied, pantsed, and paraded around town in your skidmarked underwear. ”

KidKos: “Stop talking in code, MarKos,” I snapped. “I need the truth!”

MarKos: “Oh for gaia’s sake read the freaking press releases from Obama’s HQ, KidKos!” Or else F*ck You!”

re: #96 Paul

Kos says he'll still vote for Obama and he doesn't advise anyone to vote for McCain or Nader. So what's the big deal? Kos is just stamping his feet and looking for some attention, he's not throwing Obama under the bus.

Surveillance is evil, Kos is saying Obama has shouldered that evil only to shrug it off at the first possible opportunity, such as he has shouldered and shrugged off others before, and NSA/CIA/BGC will all go the way of Jeremiah Wright, but Obama has to achieve that alone, Kos will not help in it.

Are they really this dumb that they didnt know this was coming?

Did they really think a far left Senator (the FARTHEST left Senator in the Senate, in fact) was going to run as a far leftist in the general election?

In a country where the majority of people are center-right in terms of their values?

Are they?

Oh my, I think they might be!

That is the most freaking awesome thing I've heard in weeks.

Kudos to you sir!

Many thanks, WD!

Wow, did the weathermen/women collectively predict snow in hell's forecast for the day that this was posted, or am I have some weird, heat induced hallucination?

Furthermore, it is funny that this is starting to become apparent to the idio-tards who loyally have their noses firmly planted in Obama's rear. I was in a debate last night on an uber liberal discussion board about Barack Obama's exploitation of scripture from the Bible, and his convenient usage of said exploitation depending on where and with whom he is speaking. In a speech that he gave back in '06, to summarize briefly, Obama talks about not allowing our personal faiths to lead us in the political and judicial decision making processes, or dialog either. I personally value this approach, as I, for one value not living under a theocracy and additionally not having the government intervene in my religion either in the home or at the pew.

However, as of late (June 28th, actually), and in his desperate attempt to pander to the Christian Right and basically regurgitate everything he has been rehearsing for years, he talks about how allowing faith to be a part of diplomacy is OK, now. He states that we should be attempting to convey our morals and views, but in a way that's tailored to basically to pander to nations that he wants to "sit down and have tea with" aka, places like Iran, Pakistan and Venezuela, all countries who vilanize our capitalist approach in the world, and two of which believe our country is comprised of infidels and heathens. Also, in the last six months, of course while visiting a church, he goes on to talk about how this generation is the 'Joshua Generation' (old testament) and that we need to fulfill certain works, and blah, blah, freakin' blah....Oh, also, he was quoted as saying in that same speech on June 28th that the biggest gap between whites in religious affiliation is between those who attend church and those who don't. I am pretty sure a lot of that gap is filled with issues like income, pro-lifers/pro-choicers, instilled white apology, so on and so forth. Not only do I think that was an ignorant assessment by him, but of course he provides no facts/figures to back up this statement. Furthermore, in either the '06 speech that I have referenced here, or the one from last week, he goes on to say that he basically did not feel a part of a Church's congregation until he stepped into the Black Church in Chicago (his words) because he finally realized that he felt at home for the very reason that he feels blacks truly understand what it means to be "lower thans" and the sentiment of giving unto others.

My thought is (and If I were to write him a letter addressing this): basically Barack, or, Barry as you LOVE to be called, you did not feel at home in a church until you were sitting in a pew, having the hate filled Rev. Wright spewing his anti-American filth at you and cultivating a victim complex in each and every one of his congregation? Furthermore, from what you are saying, lower middle class white folks who attend church are completely unaware of what it is to give? Give me a break.

Couldn't happen to a better group of people! And guess what....it's only going to get better...the moving to the center has only just begun!

I agree with you Born - watch the Obama supporters scatter! It will be like yelling shark on a beach!

414 Born_to_lose  Wed, Jul 2, 2008 8:16:40am

One of my best of BEST friends has always said that yeah, the Dems always go stark raving mad the closer we get to election time. They do things like this, you know, cut their nose off to spite their collective ugly face and make little to no impact. It is the responsibility, however of American thinkers to be able to sort out these loons. However, and unfortunately, there is a large number who have allowed themselves to be over come by the power of the media and brainwashed into thinking that Obama is the second coming of Christ.....sheesh...we are all really in for it, I think...

re: #406 TMF

Are they really this dumb that they didnt know this was coming?

What you are seeing is a paleodem. Kos is entirely out of touch with the change Obama already brought about first of all in his own party. Forget about that same-old-old netroots vs. centrists cat-and-mouse game. Let´s instead talk about bitter people clinging to surveillance and nightmares.

The koskids must be very confused today.

And why would today be any different than any other day?

re: #27 Pyrocles

Why is the Left always so crass and foul-mouthed? I thought they were the party of the enlightened intelligentsia? Or do they curse to appear "edgy" and hipper than those "square" Conservatives?

The so-called "enlightened intelligentsia" mentioned above work best in the realm of four letter words.

re: #34 vbspurs

Denver is building a fence to keep out the protesters from marauding the Convention. This is where Markos' Army skills will come in handy.

I wonder if that fence is more to keep the Dems in than keep the protesters out?
