Wire Services Cozy with Terrorists

Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 8:17:26 am PDT

Propaganda that came directly from the Hizballah terror gang is now being parroted by Western wire services:

Lebanese feast on ‘buns and guns’ in Hezbollah fiefdom.

Beirut restaurant makes meal out of war.

Note: this story is based on a report that appeared on Hizballah’s official channel, Al-Manar TV. Al-Manar may be banned in many countries, but they can rely on our wonderful mainstream media to get the propaganda out there anyway.

I saw these stories the other day and wondered why they were rehashing month-old items.

Hussein, aged 15 and who was born after Lebanon's 1975-1990 civil war, says he is crazy about the food in Buns and Guns, even though in fact it scarcely differs from that served up in any other Lebanese fast-food outlet.

"My friends and I love weapons -- though not to kill each other," he says, speaking through a mouthful of "grenade" potato-chips.

"Lots of youngsters come here, but our message is not to teach them violence but rather to familiarise them with these weapons so they know the dangers," comments Youssef.

LOL

Embedding with terrorists is hazardous to your health. That includes the bottom line. Media companies would be wise to remember this from time to time, especially when they see their bottom line disappearing - and have to cut staff time and time again.

For crying out loud! With the current demise of newspapers in this country, you would think some one would step into the void to counteract this kind of thing, other than bloggers. A print medium. Sheesh.

The wire service editors must have trained them well. No need for massaging it for Western audiences anymore.

Disgusting.

"Lots of youngsters come here, but our message is not to teach them violence but rather to familiarise them with these weapons so they know the dangers," comments Youssef.

That said, there's nothing inherently wrong with the wire services putting something up about the restaurant. Just like there's nothing wrong with Charles' post about it -- which, as I remember, didn't offer any particular context or criticism. The absurdity of the thing stands on its own.

For what it's worth, this sort of restaurant ain't exactly original. I ate at a similar place in another country long ago.

Just a smart businessman with a sense of humor, I think. I wish they had those in the US, I'd eat there! Nice MP5 over the cash register, and nice selection of translites of various FN products on the soffit over the grill. :D

How else can we explain the "news" of American Idol shows, Movie Stars, and BS from the likes of irrelevant people such as the Goracle.

The one question I have about the restaurant...do the sandwiches cost $7.62, or $5.56 for a less substantial one? :)

I like the bullet menus, and the silkscreened hollowpoints on the windows. That, and eating behind sandbags. It really does look like someone has a sense of humor, there, and it's more Gun Pr0n than anything idealistic. You'd need it. Place was once a resort town, now it's had war after war after war.

Objectively speaking, the problem that occurs in terms of bias is that each person has a different view on what aspect of a story HAS merit and should be emphasized, and which aspect of a story does not.

The whole concept of "equal time" is an ill-minded (in my opinion) attempt at solving that problem.

Speaking of Cozying with Creeps,

Last night the BBC tv World News from its DC bureau, gloated (to its international/terrorist audience) our US Admiral Mullins said IT WOULDN'T BE PRUDENT for the US (or Israel) to attack Iran!

BBC was basically telling Iran, "Don't Worry, Be Happy", the US doesn't want a third front in the GWOT right now.

BBC said it was clear US Admiral Mullins was telling US/Israel to cool it, knock off the "Iran's next!" talk.

85 Charles  Thu, Jul 3, 2008 9:46:42am

This is not capitalism. The restaurant is a Hizballah propaganda concept, intended to convey the message that the entire country is onboard with Hizballah's terrorist agenda.

They didn't put it on Al-Manar TV to show the wonders of capitalism, although they were obviously right to think that some Westerners would see it that way.

I still think it's just someone making light of the fact that life there otherwise sucks. For a lot of people in Beruit, you either laugh or you cry. A lot would just like the brief period of "cruise ship destination, peaceful place" to return.

I see it sort of like the spoof restaurants in Russia that appeared in the 90's. One looked like a Party members only club in a basement, complete with a guy in a grey coat who would suspiciously scowl at you as you entered, and another was called "Joe's", and was a Western style diner full of irreverently displayed Stalin memorabilia, often with silly hats on statues.

that's cute. that's kitschy. this glorifies violence.

that's the difference in my eyes.

re: #93 Kefirah

how sick is this? it's eerily reminiscent of the fast-food chain created in don't mess with the zohan.

our world is bordering on surreal.

Would you also call the Spaghetti Western Espresso restaurant in Prescott, AZ sick? Even the doorknob is a lever-action rifle fastened to the doorframe, and there's gun and gunfight stuff everywhere. It's awesome. Liberals hate it.

I see only photos of guns in the pictures, nothing to do with Hezbollah at all. Hell, everything's in English and most all the guns are US and European makers.

Let me ask you this, then.

If it was in the US instead, with just all the same sorts of gun pictures, run by a corporation, would you still say it glorified violence?

re: #97 Kalak

that's the key, though. corporation. it isn't corporately owned or publicly shared.

and it's all green. not desert camouflage. hezbollah green.

and no, i wouldn't call the arizona restaurant "sick," mostly because of context. we don't send our children to die.

re: #98 Kefirah

Well, the green, perhaps. I don't know. It might be to appease them. I don't know the whole story, but the guy in the interview didn't look like a wild-eyed radical.

The thing is, as I said, not everyone in Beruit is a bad person. If you think that, then we might as well just nuke the whole middle east.

There are good people everywhere. Sometimes, they can't even speak up or do anything but keep their head down, or the extremists will quite literally take it off.

The key is to destroy the extremists without mercy, but also to let the good people know that we don't hate them, or, well...otherwise, there's really no point to trying to liberate these lands, is there?

re: #99 Kalak

agreed with you there, whole-heartedly. and i certainly don't hate them - have a number of lebanese friends.

but restaurants or television shows or theme parks or whatEVER paradigm or gimmick you want to use - things like this make it harder for the good people to get any sort of foothold, and that's what's sad. and scary.

It originates at the Hizballah propaganda channel Al-Manar.

By the way, I know there are plenty of good people in Beirut. But this is terrorist propaganda.

Yeah, yeah. And Hooters is evil exploitation of women. Chuckie Cheese causes children to be hyper-competitive instead of sharing. Ronald McDonald is thoughtlessly promoting obesity. What else?

Unless you show me some evidence that the money is actually flowing back to Hezbullah, it seems to me that you are strainging to find a fault. It is capitalism.

104 FurryOldGuyJeans  Thu, Jul 3, 2008 12:48:50pm

Looks like the media outsourcing to terrorists is biting them in the butt by way of seriously reduced revenues. Boo-fricking-hoo. Now the MSM are some very evil corporations, and deserve whatever happens for thinking no one would notice their biases.

Sure, it's just like Hooters. And Ronald McDonald.

Er, what do you think radicals look like? You really don't think they're all wild-eyed, or like Islamic Rage Boy---do you?

109 TalkinKamel  Thu, Jul 3, 2008 3:25:31pm

Ah yes, I remember going to McDonald's when I was a wee moppet, and all the fun I had when I discovered a free hand grenade, in my happy meal, and how amusing all the servers were, dressed in camouflage pants and bandoliers, and how Ronald himself told us that the Hamburgler was really a Zionist agent, and that we must shoot him on sight with our complimentary Clown pistols. . .

I don't know about Kefirah, but I think I'd say "yes."

(At the very least, it's downright weird.)
