Spencer: What We Should Be Fighting For

Fri, Jul 4, 2008 at 8:53:08 am PDT

One of the lessons of Independence Day is that eternal vigilance is the price of freedom; Robert Spencer reminds us that our freedoms are still in need of defense from a very persistent enemy: Jihad Watch: What we should be fighting for this July 4.

Happy Independence Day everyone!
Reading this reminds me of how much the Koran is truly what we are fighting against.

BREAKING NEWS: Former Sen. Jesse Helms of North Carolina died today, Independence Day. He was 86 years old. Known by the leftwing as Dr. No, his knowledge of Senate Rules was formidable and he was able to advance conservative agenda, and to obstruct liberal programs, in the hostile media environment of the 1980s. My condolences to his wife Dot, and his family and to the people of North Carolina. RIP.

I think Robert's point #3 is a major one- Equality of rights before the law.

As a woman and an infidel, islam most certainly wouldn't treat me equally.

Okay, you guys have been posting RIP Helms links so I'd like to be enlightened:

All I know about the guy is that he was one of those old "refuse-to-die" types with ultra-conservative views, and that he was "Senator No." That's about it.

13 Sharmuta  Fri, Jul 4, 2008 9:03:56am

Perhaps I posted this on the wrong thread, so I'll post it again:

What Being An American Means To Me-

When I look at the state of the world around me, I can only thank God for my American Liberties. That I can disagree with my government and not be sent to jail. That I can disagree as a woman with my father and not be murdered for dishonoring him. That I am entitled to be treated equally under the law as much as the next American. That I am guaranteed a defense in the court system with witnesses and protections. That I have as much opportunity as any other American based on my abilities and not a birth right. That I have freedom to Worship my Creator and not be forced to believe as the government would dictate to me. I am a free woman, I am an American, and I thank God for it today and every day.

Happy Independence Day!

Happy Fourth of July.
All of these freedoms some would happily turn away for tyranny. How is that progress?

15 yesandno  Fri, Jul 4, 2008 9:07:02am

After life, Liberty is the one fundamental right of man most important.

It is not equality...but liberty that must be preserved.

The Founders had it correct.

OT: Is the NYT throwing Obama under the bus?

An excerpt (emphasis added):

The Barack Obama of the primary season used to brag that he would stand before interest groups and tell them tough truths. The new Mr. Obama tells evangelical Christians that he wants to expand President Bush’s policy of funneling public money for social spending to religious-based organizations — a policy that violates the separation of church and state and turns a government function into a charitable donation.

He says he would not allow those groups to discriminate in employment, as Mr. Bush did, which is nice. But the Constitution exists to protect democracy, no matter who is president and how good his intentions may be.

On top of these perplexing shifts in position, we find ourselves disagreeing powerfully with Mr. Obama on two other issues: the death penalty and gun control.

Mr. Obama endorsed the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the District of Columbia’s gun-control law. We knew he ascribed to the anti-gun-control groups’ misreading of the Constitution as implying an individual right to bear arms. But it was distressing to see him declare that the court provided a guide to “reasonable regulations enacted by local communities to keep their streets safe.”

What could be more reasonable than a city restricting handguns, or requiring that firearms be stored in ways that do not present a mortal threat to children?

Oh, I don't know. Making it legal for law-abiding citizens to carry as they would, so that criminals wouldn't know whether or not their proposed victim was a threat to them?

Go read the whole thing. It's an eye-opener.

25 Paul Green  Fri, Jul 4, 2008 9:16:49am

Magnificent. An addendum:

What we must defend:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

-- Amendment II, United States Constitution

What we must defend it against:

We shall not mount on saddles, nor shall we gird swords nor bear any kind of arms nor carry them on our persons.

Did everyone see the URL for the Jesse Helms Obit from WRAL? Be sure to see the end of the URL that doesn't show in LGF.
[Link: www.wral.com...]

This is my feedback to them I submitted on their form.

You wouldn't have had the courage to put out a slimy attack like the obituary of Jesse Helms under the link "good-riddance" if it wasn't at the start of a 3 day holiday weekend. When the bosses get back in town hope they clean house and fire every one connected with this disgusting act. You are shameful for your treatment of the dead and for your abuse of the national holiday.

We need to make an issue of this. Even if the facts are right about his conduct this is still inexcusable to do on a day like today.

Unhappy it is, though, to reflect that a brother's sword has been sheathed in a brother's breast and that the once-happy and peaceful plains of America are either to be drenched with blood or inhabited by a race of slaves. Sad alternative! But can a virtuous man hesitate in his choice?

Regarding the above story, and it's four points:

Print it out. More than once. A copy to go under the refrigerator magnet. A copy to carry around in your wallet. A copy to keep in your car, for the eyes of an idle passenger. Copies to distribute, when the occasion arises. You can make that occasion arise.

Hey, Doogie, you marginally-airworthy charter flight to Riyadh is still in the hangar, waiting for you and your jackbooted goonsquad to head off into the great blue sky! I'm sure King Whatshisnuts over there has a nice, cool palace waiting for you as your reward for subverting the US Government.

Go on, the fuel is in the tanks, and your barely-capable pilot and burka-clad slave-girl attendants are waiting for you. Buh-bye, Doogie!

False alert. They jumped back on the bandwagon at the end. However, they avoided the Iraq issue where BHO is in the process of recanting and adopting McCain's position while trying to deny doing so. Maybe then they'll throw him off (but not under) the bus temporarily. Nonetheless one can be sure that they'll find some excuse to endorse him after the convention no matter what his positions happen to be at that time.

Speaking of what we should be fighting for...(this is from Canada)...Ezra Levant just appeared on CTV, yes, and on the Fourth of July! (how appropriate). He was arguing against the State's recent apprehension of 2 children (the children were taken away from their parents because the parents are neo-nazis, and the neo-nazi scumbags had their seven year old wear a swastika to school...So Social Services stepped in and took the children away from the parents.) As Ezra remarked, no matter how much we may dislike neo-nazis; no matter how much we may disagree with their political opinions -- opinions which are offensive, vile and repugnant -- nevertheless, that does not warrant the State to take away the children...(again as Ezra notes, we're not living in Maoist China where parents must express the proper political opinions, or else.) Anyway, the interview was heated (there was another lawyer defending the right of the State to seize the kids.) Hope this segment will be on YouTube soon...

But that's so counter-productive.  The kids can't see the ideology is wrong, they see that the state is a bully, which reinforces them then embracing the ideology!
