Tech Note: Moving the Deck Chairs on the Spaceship

Sat, Jul 5, 2008 at 6:30:20 pm PDT

I’ve been using that Flippy Triangle technique to organize more of the stuff that used to be visible by default in our left sidebar, like the Statistics, the Tag Cloud, and the contact form. This user interface saves a lot of space; in fact, the sidebar looks almost naked with everything tucked away.

I didn’t do this just for the cleaner look, though; the statistics display now refreshes via Ajax every time you show that flippy menu item. Ajax is also used to dynamically refresh the LGF Headlines, Top 10 Comments, and Recent Comments sections in the same way. And the contact form uses an Ajax token-based technique that prevents it from being abused by mindless spambots, so I don’t get hundreds of contact emails with links to poker sites and weird German porn.

It was true before the wars. See overall citation in my #47. The following is op cit, page 222:

"Wilhelmine Kultur's emphasis on masculinity had produced a generation of perverts. Abroad sodomy was delicately known as 'the German vice'; the most virle men in the empire wrote gushing letters to one another."

Yeah, there is but it's pretty underground. I find it odd that Indian culture of the past was so sexual (most good temple carving will make even me blush) but modern society is pretty prudish. Maybe there's some nuance I don't understand.

Those who don't want to discuss porn can discuss religion instead....
Tablet ignites debate on messiah and resurrection

A three-foot-tall tablet with 87 lines of Hebrew that scholars believe dates from the decades just before the birth of Jesus is causing a quiet stir in biblical and archaeological circles, especially because it may speak of a messiah who will rise from the dead after three days.

If such a messianic description really is there, it will contribute to a developing re-evaluation of both popular and scholarly views of Jesus, since it suggests that the story of his death and resurrection was not unique but part of a recognized Jewish tradition at the time.

Sure, blame an innocent sockpuppet!

Some advice: have your sockpuppet ditch the socks and garter...too hot in this weather! ;) I am going back into my drawer..my own A/C is there!

Just like Stinky's hamsters, even sock puppets get some rest.

Thanks for the laugh, Nana.
As intended much earlier, I'm out of the room for the evening, movie watching, then sleep.

She appears, gray-eyed Athena, striding down Olympus in full battle armor!

I have to stop typing for awhile...my stupid left thumb is causing me grief...at least I am a righty, but am also a 2-finger typer.

re: #19 Killgore Trout

There's something about losing a World War that results in extra weird porn. The Japanese have the same problem.

So does losing the Cold War. The former Eastern Bloc rivals Holland. Or so I've heard.

Clicking flippy triangles is fun.

Does that have to do anything with Obama? =)
