I have found that there is a big difference between getting a job and having a career, and that includes the thought process. If he's a college graduate, he probably feels entitled to a good job despite his major. You can't major in "Ethnic Studies" and expect to make as much money as an engineer right out of college. I used to be that way, too. I was a moonbat in college while majoring in English and Anthropology. After graduating I felt I should get a good job, damnit, since I was a college graduate; oblivious to the fact that I had lots of useless knowledge but no work skills. I had to go back for a Master's degree to make myself employable.

I tell all college-age people I meet that if you're not going to college for an engineering or computer programming-related major, you're wasting your time.

Forced servitude in America?

n his speech on national service Wednesday at the University of Colorado, Obama promised that as president he would "set a goal for all American middle and high school students to perform 50 hours of service a year, and for all college students to perform 100 hours of service a year."

He would see that these goals are met by, among other things, attaching strings to federal education dollars. If you don't make the kids report for duty, he's essentially telling schools and college kids, you'll lose money you can't afford to lose. In short, he'll make service compulsory by merely compelling schools to make it compulsory.

I have two high schoolers. Where we live, the local HS already has a community service program and in fact, you cannot get placed in the Honor Society, regardless of your grades, without having community or volunteer service points. However, and it doesn't take a genius to see this, the same kids seem to do all the volunteering and they are same ones that are leaders in just about all the areas of HS campus life and they are the least likely to ever be anything but a tremendous asset to our society as they go through life.

Anyone who uses any variation of the word causes me to go spare. I don't think it'd be such a big deal to set up natural gas filling stations, as there's natural gas lines running everywhere. Stations in remote areas would be the only issue. Cars only get about half the mileage running on CNG as they do on gasoline, though.
