The Obama Youth Corps

Tue, Jul 8, 2008 at 10:58:33 am PDT

Here’s an utterly ludicrous statement from Barack Obama that’s flown under the radar so far; he is planning a “civilian national security force” that is as powerful and well-funded as the US military.

Obama promised to increase AmeriCorps slots from 75,000 to 250,000 and pledged to double the size of the Peace Corps by 2011. …

Obama had first outlined many of the proposals he talked about Wednesday during appearances in Iowa last December.

“We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set,” he said Wednesday. “We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded.”

Notice that he also says he plans to increase the size of the active military.

Is he even aware that the Department of Defense’s current base budget is close to $500 billion? Obama is going to create a civilian force with this level of funding and equipment? To do what?

(Hat tip: Exurban League.)

There was a guy on Medved's show last week who was in the Peace Corps for a few months. He just got back because of a family emergency. 57 Timbre  Tue, Jul 8, 2008 11:08:19am

I consider this statement a fundamental lie. He probably will increase AmeriCorps and Peace Corps, but his definition of national security is nationalized pacifism. These organizations will be involved in all kinds of social engineering--like keeping track of kids who say "Yuk" at being served multicultural food they do not like.

58 ErnieG  Tue, Jul 8, 2008 11:08:32am

Will they have torchlight parades, and rallies in huge outdoor stadiums? I'll bet it would make a great movie.

59 ubu roi  Tue, Jul 8, 2008 11:08:45am

Obama, like most people who have wandered the halls of academe too long, thinks of work as akin to work-study, that is, lots of government funded make-believe work. AmeriCorps is a perfect example of this mindset. It is a giant scam as it is, imagine the scale of the corruption if it received real money. They are phony jobs programs to provide imaginary community service for communities that don't exist; real communities don't need phony volunteer programs because they have real people who really volunteer.

60 coquimbojoe  Tue, Jul 8, 2008 11:08:52am

Community Organizing?

Well, community organizing is his base experience. It would be natural to pull on that experience if he is to impose his vision on the world.

You know, this is starting to sound a bit too imperial, what with all the promises of a chicken in every pot, expanding government and the Brandenburg Gate tour and all. You don't think he really believes Princess Caroline passed the crown to him, do you? But then, with Crown Prince John gone from the scene someone has to pick it up, I suppose.

Obama Youth = Comp Force/COMPNOR

"CompForce was the military wing of COMPNOR, created to provide Emperor Palpatine with an army of utterly loyal soldiers separate from the Imperial Stormtrooper Corps. Stormtroopers were trained to obey orders without thinking, but at the same time, they were proudly independent of the line military; CompForce units, in contrast, were embedded within the hierarchy of the Imperial Army and Imperial Navy, and their members were motivated primarily by conscious adherence to the tenets of the New Order. In theory, they were shock troops and officer candidates; in effect, they were security troops and political police, answerable to the New Order's ideologues rather than the High Command—an army within the Army, designed to tighten the grip of the Imperial hierarchy on the military."

No- he's a progressive- in the more classical sense of the word, and by that I mean he's a fascist.

Fascists require a myth, they require movement (think CHANGE!), and they require youth. Fascists will embrace whatever talking point will promote their cause and embrace another that is counter to the first when it promotes their cause.

The more I learn of obama the more clear it becomes to me that he is in fact a fascist. With a smiley face.

The DNC is short on money for this convention, and yet they're renting out a bigger stadium for his coronation, even as it's the only part of the 4 days (or is it 3?) for which the networks will provide wall-to-wall coverage. In other words, he could be in a room by himself accepting the nomination and he'd have the same national reach as if he was in a big stadium.

Of course, it also begs the question what happens if it rains when he's supposed to be accepting the nomination? Why take chances and impose additional costs of multiple venues.

Again, goes back to the fact that he couldn't care less what things cost. It's all about image.

The Circles run the local governments and are immune from prosecution. If you have ever seen little 3 year old chinese children in military uniforms, then you know what Chavez wants.

Obama wants everything to be communist. This is the first step. I am amazed he stated it before the election.

All these hundreds of thousands of youth, rushing out to do "community service" to earn the financial reward (See, here Obama understands that capitalism - a reward for an action, is the only thing that really will work), all these youth will NOT find an equal number of leftist and rightist causes, or very many that are apolitical.

No, instead they will find thousands of leftist groups eager to get their hands on new recruits and teach them the "truth." We think kids are brainwashed NOW, with just school and the media working on them. Wait until millions of kids are physically and emotionally invested in these leftist causes.

This may, or may not be true. But it is now way too early to start the "hitler" name calling we rightly criticized the Leftists of doing.

Interestingly enough, I have been asking myself lately how the Right will respond of McCain doesn't win. I wonder if we will respond the way we suggested the Left do during Bush's terms, or if we will just become the whiny, complaining, "Obama is Hitler" types we criticized the Left of being. I expect to snidely say alot of "Respect the Office", in the upcoming 4 years.

He calls it a "a civilian national security force", but it seems to have nothing to do with security. It's feel-good crap about teenagers doing "national service". I'm really not worried about having to stock up on ammo to face down the Barry Brigades. (Not based on this, anyway.)

Obama likes to skip formalities, like voting. In a letter sent to me under his name, he wrote: "That's the party I'm proud to lead as your nominee for President of the United States." Odd that already claims the title even though the convention voting has not been done. Legalities don't really matter to him.

Is he even aware that the Department of Defense’s current base budget is close to $500 billion? Obama is going to create a civilian force with this level of funding and equipment? To do what?

He won't say what his agenda is, and what the purpose of his $500 billion Obama Youth program will be. They will be dedicated to him, and that's all that matters. They will be his personal force for carrying out something that he won't tell us about until he is elected.

True, but it is comparison that concerns me. Hitler was unique in his madness, and disgusting actions. I do not want to minimize the horror that was Hitler and the Nazis by comparing them to Obama.

210 mfarmer1  Tue, Jul 8, 2008 11:34:31am

Nothing he says no matter how weird, absurd, or just silly will make any difference. His official website could glorify National Socialism (based on some of the blogs there that's not a stretch apparently) and he'll get elected. He could state tomorrow that he is going to outlaw the automobile to save Mother Gaia and he'll still get elected. His presumptive pick for Secretary of Defense could say that US foreign and military policy should be formulated by asking "What would Winnie the Pooh do?" and he'll still get elected.

Here in San Diego, a once solid conservative area, I've seen 100+ car strong impromptu and unofficial parades erupt on city streets for Obama, when he's not even here, heck, not even in the US at the time.

The fervor of his supporters is just creepy especially since it seems they can't even define anything, policy or otherwise about the guy. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Democrat nomination ceremony in that stadium turn out to be like a Sun Myung Moon mass wedding event.

We're screwed 08.

The current military budget is around 3.7% of the GDP, more than France's 2.6% and less than Saudi Arabia's 10%. This is historically low for the United States since it peaked in 1944 at 37.8% of GDP (it reached the lowest point of 3.0% in 1999-2001 under Clinton. Even during the peak of the Vietnam War the percentage reached a high of 9.4% in 1968. Because the U.S. GDP has risen over time, the military budget can rise in absolute terms while shrinking as a percentage of the GDP.

.

as a historical precedent, the WoT is underfunded while other entitlement programs are over funded. We have to wait for the New New Deal called uncreatively, "Change". Mandatory community service is a leftist organized "Militia" for our youth. What purposed does this serve and what is the mission and objective of this new "Youth" program where get get a budget equal to National Defense?

Wonder what Obama would do about this real-world situation, instead of fantasizing about a $trillion dollar Americorps force:

Russia Warns of Military Response If U.S.-Czech Missile Defense Agreement Approved
Tuesday, July 08, 2008

MOSCOW — Russia will be forced to make a military response if the U.S.-Czech missile defense agreement is ratified, the Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.

The statement came hours after U.S. and Czech officials reached an initial agreement on deploying elements of a missile defense system in the Eastern European country.

Russia says the system would severely undermine European security balances by weakening Russia's missile capacity.

If the agreement is ratified, "we will be forced to react not with diplomatic, but with military-technical methods," the Foreign Ministry statement said. It did not give specifics of what the response would entail.

Subs are a definate need. keep them off the ca coast in case someone wants to drill for oil.

re: #160 WrathofG-d

This may, or may not be true. But it is now way too early to start the "hitler" name calling we rightly criticized the Leftists of doing.

Interestingly enough, I have been asking myself lately how the Right will respond of McCain doesn't win. I wonder if we will respond the way we suggested the Left do during Bush's terms, or if we will just become the whiny, complaining, "Obama is Hitler" types we criticized the Left of being. I expect to snidely say alot of "Respect the Office", in the upcoming 4 years.

The thing is, what if one guy says "Hey that sheep is black!", you look and you see a white sheep. Then a guy on the other side points at another sheep and says "Hey that sheep is black!", you look and see that the sheep is in fact black.

Are both guys then equally guilty of accusing sheep of being black? I guess they are, but there still remains one vital little difference and that is that the second sheep was in fact black!

Well it's kind of the same with comparing Bush and Obama respectively to Hitler. Bush has never done anything even remotely resembling Hitler's actions during the latter's reign of terror, but Obama seems determined to get off to a flying start in that direction and the guy isn't even in office yet.

Listen to the parade!
There are the pretty girls with their hair curled,
Back from the labor camp.
They represent the League of Strength Through Joy.
At least, I guess it’s that.
No, they don’t go to high-school any more.
They get told where they go. We all get told.
And, now and then, it happens like Jack Brown,
Nice fellow, Jack. Ran the gas-station here.
But he was married to a You-Know-Who.
Fond of her, too.
I don’t know why we never used to mind.
Why, she walked around like anybody else,
Kept her kids clean and joined the Ladies’ Social.
Just shows you, doesn’t it? But that’s all done.
And you won’t see her in the crowd today,
Her or the kids or Jack,
Unless you look six feet under the ground,
The lime-washed ground, the bitter prison ground
That hides the martyrs and the innocent,
And you won’t see Dan Shay.

The thing is, what if one guy says "Hey that sheep is black!", you look and you see a white sheep. Then a guy on the other side points at another sheep and says "Hey that sheep is black!", you look and see that the sheep is in fact black.

As I like to put it (on this topic of the "oh, they're just making mirror-image claims" fallacy): Imagine we travel back in time to 1937. We first interview a German Nazi, who says "the Jews have a secret plan to kill us all." We then interview a German Jew who says, "the Nazis have a secret plan to kill us all." It's true that they're making "mirror-image claims"; but only one of them is right.

Hmmm... seems that Obama's youth program might be better off helping out the Saudis with their unemployment problem than here in the US, where our unemployment rate is near historic lows.

"Gas prices are low here, so what?" said Muhammad Abdullah, a 60-year-old retiree. "What can I do with gas? Drink it? Take it with me to the supermarket?"

Al-Mazeen says his monthly grocery bill has doubled — to $215 — compared to last year, when oil was at around $70 a barrel. During that time period, the price of rice has doubled to about 72 cents a pound, and a pound of beef has gone up more than a third to about $4.

Moreover, Saudis are grappling with unemployment — estimated at 30 percent among young people aged 16 to 26 — and a stock market that is down 10 percent since the beginning of the year.

Many Saudis are realizing that this oil boom will not have the same impact as the one in the 1970s, which raised Saudis from rags to riches. This time, the wealth isn't trickling down as fast or in the same quantities.

While the instinct to call for the waaahambulance is there, it's that 16-26 demographic that should be troubling since that's the group that al Qaeda mined for their terror minions. They're the ones that the Islamists seek to indoctrinate and send out into the world to cause mayhem.

I’ve gotten the impression of a pattern of a sort of juvenile one-upmanship in a number of his pronouncements. He isn’t just a friend of Israel, he’s the best friend Israel has ever had. When he is claiming support for something (even if it was something he opposed earlier), it is something he is supporting *passionately* and he was always for it more strongly than anyone else.

There's a historical parallel (using the concept loosely, but why th' hell not) which says, "nope!"

Obama considers the regular military to be somewhat fascist -- analogous to the brown shirts of the SA. In advocating the formation of a counterbalance, he would therefore be wanting black shirts, like the SS.

The Left loves to use kids as political props...

Here is the Kids for Obama page at the Obama website:

10 Ways Kids for Obama can get involved:

1-Create a Kids for Obama Group on My.Barackobama.com. For example, Chicago Kids for Obama or DC Kids for Obama and throw a party!
2- Write a letter or editorial to your local news paper, expressing "Why Barack Obama should become the next US President".
3- Find a Pen Pal - it could be in your school, city, state, or another state. Write and discuss different ways you can get involved.
4- Draw a picture of Senator Barack Obama or "an expression of Democracy". For example, the Senator sitting in the White House or working on Capitol. Hill. You can send your drawing to the Obama for America Campaign Headquarters in Chicago and it will be posted for the Senator to see.
5- Implement T-Shirt Thursday. Get friends to wear an official Obama for America T-Shirt to school.
6- Take an adult (voting age) to the polls on Election Day and encourage them to vote for you, by voting for Senator Obama.
7- Post an official Obama for America Campaign sticker/logo on your school bag.
8- Wear an Obama for America Campaign button and/or clothing.
9- Host a Senator Barack Obama House Party or sleep-over.
10- Contribute to the Kids for Obama Blog

I know, some conservatives will use their kids also, but it is much more common and accepted on the Left.

381 lostlakehiker  Tue, Jul 8, 2008 12:11:20pm

This civilian national security force goes by the name "workforce" among Republicans. It's strong, it's like a militia because it pays its own way except when called to the colors [that is, except when the military wants to buy something in the civilian market], and in its own way, it's much more powerful than the military.

The habit of using superlatives is so entrenched in politics that ya hafta think Obama didn't mean any of it. Not literally. So, what did he mean?

A civilian national security force that would work towards the goals we've been setting our military? Blackwater Security, on a larger scale?

Perhaps health care volunteers and so on, civilizing the natives but not with a Krag? What sort of reception would that get, these days?

Does he mean some sort of home guard, watching the neighbors and reporting them if they tune in to Fox News? Curious minds want to know.

do i have to sense some danger coming from America in near future ?... last time a private force was build, which was as much powerful as the countries military... and that too from "dissatisfied" brand of politicians ... we still know those old security forces, in historical context we call them Waffen SS

Waffen = combat troops. I believe you are thinking of the Algemeine SS. The Waffen divisions were the combat units and fought alongside ther regular army forces.

A civilian force this well-funded could have responded to the Kansas tornado disaster that killed 10,000 people. In fact, I would imagine such a force would be well placed to respond quickly and effectively to such a natural disaster in any of the 57 states.

"We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set," he said Wednesday. "We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded."

You know, if he intended to create such a force to be a tool of national policy to supplement the military, this wouldn't be such a bad thing.

A force trained in important tasks such a building infrastructure, civil securtity, diplomatic missions, sanitation, health care, etc. to complement military missions would be a great idea.

But that isn't what he has in mind.

Yes terminology hardly matters... its like making good terrorist, bad terrorist, home grown terrorist, or hamburg type and so on...

so it hardly matter what it will form... Hanjar division, Hitler jugend or what ever... but the result, if they succeed, with me mass causalities and degraded definition of human dignity...

I think an analogy of what B. I would bet it leans more towards towing the Progressive line, Environmentalism enforcement, hate speech investigations, race counseling, all of course being filtered through the NAACP and the ACLU. They gotta have legal backing ya know!

Part of 100 days Plan to Enlist One Million Americans in National Service A Year

On September 11th, 2001, America experienced the most terrible and deadly attack in its history. John Kerry believes we need to think big and do better and get more young Americans serving the nation.

As part of his 100 day plan to change America, John Kerry will propose a comprehensive service plan that includes requiring mandatory service for high school students and four years of college tuition in exchange for two years of national service

I tend to worry more about fascism from the left rather than the elite media opinion that it will come from the right (if its not already here). How about Obama sets up his new Americorps with new outfits that include brownshirts! They can then help with voter registration like ACORN where they only seem to end up registering Democrats! Eventually they can be used to help identify those who fail to follow all the new global warming mandates and whatever else dems can dream up to "help" the ignorant masses.

In the archived article discussing Kerry's version, the first sentence of that paragraph has nothing to do with the second! Because terrorists attacked the US on 9/11, we have to think big and do better to get more young Americans serving the nation? Why? Doing what in the Democrat's peaceful socialist worldview? Participating in "the world" to become good global citizens and ensure that no potential terrorists hate us anymore?

That's equal to $40 an hour.

It may be absurd but you'd be a fool not to take advantage of it.

"He said surveys show today's youth, a group sometimes called the "9/11 generation," is deeply attracted to service and has maintained that interest, even as it has fallen off for other age groups following the attacks in 2001.

"It may represent a real shift to interest in community service," Goldsmith said."

Okay, okay, okay. Let me get this straight.

Barak Obama is proposing a "national security force" that is as well funded at US military. What will this "national security force" do? Will it patrol around cities? Will it patrol the streets and highways?

This looks to be two things.

1. Another humongous bureaucracy for the federal government.

2. The beginnings of replacing the local police with "national police" which, in turn, gives the government more control of our lives.

This is another proposal that will cost our freedoms.

The forced servitude actually applies to us, the taxpayer rubes who voted for Obama and then have to cough up ever-larger shares of our income to the Government Bureaucracy. This is growing the size of government by a huge margin, and making us serve it. The service we'll get in return from these college kids will be minimal.

554 HelloDare  Tue, Jul 8, 2008 12:58:13pm

Here's another angle on Obama Youth:

The Elephant in the Room: Obama: A harsh ideologue hidden by a feel-good image.

...Fighting on the fringe with a handful of liberals is one thing, but consider his position on an issue that passed both houses of Congress unanimously in 2002.

That bill was the Born Alive Infants Protection Act. During the partial-birth abortion debate, Congress heard testimony about babies that had survived attempted late-term abortions. Nurses testified that these preterm living, breathing babies were being thrown into medical waste bins to die or being "terminated" outside the womb. With the baby now completely separated from the mother, it was impossible to argue that the health or life of the mother was in jeopardy by giving her baby appropriate medical treatment.

The act simply prohibited the killing of a baby born alive. To address the concerns of pro-choice lawmakers, the bill included language that said nothing "shall be construed to affirm, deny, expand or contract any legal status or legal right" of the baby. In other words, the bill wasn't intruding on Roe v. Wade.

Who would oppose a bill that said you couldn't kill a baby who was born? Not Kennedy, Boxer or Hillary Rodham Clinton. Not even the hard-core National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL). Obama, however, is another story. The year after the Born Alive Infants Protection Act became federal law in 2002, identical language was considered in a committee of the Illinois Senate. It was defeated with the committee's chairman, Obama, leading the opposition.

[He voted "present" the first time the bill came up. Against it the second time. It was thrown into his committee where he killed it.]

Let's be clear about what Obama did, once in 2003 and twice before that. He effectively voted for infanticide. He voted to allow doctors to deny medically appropriate treatment or, worse yet, actively kill a completely delivered living baby. Infanticide - I wonder if he'll add this to the list of changes in his next victory speech and if the crowd will roar: "Yes, we can."

How could someone possibly justify such a vote? In March 2001, Obama was the sole speaker in opposition to the bill on the floor of the Illinois Senate. He said: "We're saying they are persons entitled to the kinds of protections provided to a child, a 9-month child delivered to term. I mean, it would essentially bar abortions, because the equal-protection clause does not allow somebody to kill a child." So according to Obama, "they," babies who survive abortions or any other preterm newborns, should be permitted to be killed because giving legal protection to preterm newborns would have the effect of banning all abortions.

Justifying the killing of newborn babies is deeply troubling, but just as striking is his rigid adherence to doctrinaire liberalism. Apparently, the "audacity of hope" is limited only to those babies born at full term and beyond. Worse, given his support for late-term partial-birth abortions that supporters argued were necessary to end the life of genetically imperfect children, it may be more accurate to say the audacity of hope applies only to those babies born healthy at full term.

Obama's supporters say his rhetoric makes them believe again.

Is this the kind of change and leader you believe in?

Okay, okay, okay. Let me get this straight.

Barak Obama is proposing a "national security force" that is as well funded at US military. What will this "national security force" do? Will it patrol around cities? Will it patrol the streets and highways?

This looks to be two things.

1. Another humongous bureaucracy for the federal government.

2. The beginnings of replacing the local police with "national police" which, in turn, gives the government more control of our lives.

This is another proposal that will cost our freedoms.

The Germans are too keen on his speech location:

However, the source, who asked not to be named, was reserved about the prospects of Obama holding a speech before the Brandenburg Gate."

"The Brandenburg Gate is the most famous and history-rich site in Germany," the Chancellery source said. In the past, the location has only been used on very special occasions for political speeches by world leaders. And it has been reserved for use only by elected American presidents, not candidates. The decision on whether the Democrat can speak at the location ultimately lies with the Berlin state government. Chancellery officials are concerned that the Brandenburg Gate could be turned into an "arbitrary stage" that other campaigns could also seek to use in the future.

actually the meaning of 'Ich bin ein Berliner' can be both," I am a jelly doughnut"
and "I am a Berliner";
"Ich bin Berliner", means I am from Berlin, identifying myself as a citizen of Berlin.

yes, the "ein" alters it subtley, but drastically. if that makes any sense. ;)

Yep, I know. But in the context of the speech, it was perfectly clear which meaning JFK was using. And the line was greeted with thunderous applause by the assembled jelly doughnuts Berliners, not with derisive laughter. So the version of "JFK announced he was a jelly doughnut" is, in effect, a myth.

You know, I was going to post about what exactly a civilian security force could possibly be - once you create a government controlled organization and bring people into it through swearing in or whatever, it is no longer is a civilian organization. Unfortunately, that sort of nuance is, I'm sure, lost on the Obamists.

Instead, I'll just point out how completely and utterly this nonsense is ignored by our media. If ANY Republican had made this statement, it would be front page and the Journaleftists would be implying that they meant to turn public safety over to the NRA and the Minuteman movement. That 'baccy' chewin' vigilantes in pickemup trucks would be marauding the streets lookin' fer uppity wimmen and blacks with their govmint provided assault rifles.
Nope, Journaleftist Obamists understand completely what their messiah meant and they think it's wonderful new hopeful thinking full of nuance and deep intellectualism even if they know full well it will not and could not ever happen.

Obama's round logo http://www.sff.net/people/raymund/uploaded_images/ Obama-logo-712385.jpg will look great in the center of a flag, lapel pin and armband, as thousands of Obama youth corps members go door to door, smashing windows of any home that has an SUV in the driveway or a NRA or "Proud Republican" sticker. Boycotts of Republican-owned businesses are certainly next. Its all for the "common good" you know. "Yes We Can!" has a great ring as a greeting too for the Obama Youth Brigades.

I imagine the convention in Denver will sound a lot like this.

"About ten o’clock tonight I got caught in a mob of ten thousand hysterics who jammed in front of (Obama's) hotel, shouting: “We want (Obama.)” I was a little shocked at the faces, especially those of the women, when (Obama) finally appeared on the balcony for a moment. They reminded me of the crazed expressions I saw once in the back country of Louisiana on the faces of some Holy Rollers who were about to hit the trail. They looked up at him as if he were a Messiah, their faces transformed into something positively inhuman. If he had remained in sight for more than a few moments, I think many of the women would have swooned from excitement. "

From "Denver Diary."

Barack Obama's Berlin visit sparks German diplomatic row

Berlin, a city torn apart by war, is the perfect setting for an American president preaching peace. Ronald Reagan famously stood metres away from the Brandenburg Gate and called on the Soviet Union to tear down the Wall dividing Europe. And President Kennedy used a Cold War visit to the once and future German capital to declare: “ich bin ein Berliner!”

Now Barack Obama, the presidential candidate, wants to grandstand there too. But a simmering row between the German Government and the local Berlin authorities could rob the Democratic politician of a photogenic moment at the Brandenburg Gate and derail his flagship tour of Europe this month.

"...it is interesting to note that no one has ever been convicted of violating 18 USC 1385, and when needed Congress has been quick to create statutory exceptions as permitted by the Act. The Act has therefore succeeded in putting forth an ideal, but has fallen woefully short in creating a practical, legal impediment to the use of the military for civil law enforcement. It could even be argued that the Act has only served to legitimize the military role of a posse comitatus by providing Congress with the ability to create its own exceptions whenever the need arises."

He is moving Centrist and will eventually take up some of the Rhetoric of Roosevelt's New Deal, re-packaged as change. So, his radical views and supporters will all be "thrown under the bus". McCaine is vulnerable with conservatives on quite a few issues, If Obama moves towards the center, then McCaine will look just like him but older and less hip on major centrist views. McCaine's only recourse to seperate himself from Obama is to move to the right which Obama will then attack with ease with backing from his left.

Only a strong VP candidate can help McCaine. I do mean Strong.

The only purpose of government is to protect individual rights. This is why we have the police to protect us from criminals, the military to protect us from foreign enemies and the justice system to resolve disputes and to deal with criminals. Any other operation of government from health care to social security and everything in between is ultimately a violation of an individuals rights and should be prohibited.

The Peace Corp obviously falls into the everything in between category. It is a government run charity that has nothing to do with protecting our rights. It is alright for a private organization to run a program like this but not the government.

It should go without saying that what sounds like an organization of do-gooder busy-bodies, a “civilian national security force”, has absolutely no business being funded by the government.

That was not the point. It has nothing to do with hipness, He needs a strong CONSERVATIVE VP candidate because he is in capable and unwilling to be one himself. If he moves to the Right, it will be too obvious that he's just trying to appease the base and won't be accepted as sincere. It will also address critics of his age. Though he is in good health, there is a possibility that he may not make it past a first term. A more Conservative VP and a little younger will go a long way in gaining respect and support of Conservatives. It will also set him apart from Obama's Centrist maneuvering.

It sounds like the SA to me. The Obama Brown Shirts to break up Neocon meetings. Use your brain and vote McCain!

Douse your brain and vote McCain?

Subbotnik? More like Gulags. But first things first: one should create what the Marxists call "apparatus of coercion." Think Lenin's Red Guard, Hitler's SA, Mao's Red Guards (Hongweibing) etc. Nazis were national socialists and Obama is a racial socialist: that's all there is to it.
re: #674 amphibian

To be fair, I think that this -- [Link: en.wikipedia.org...] -- is what Hussein had in mind. A subbotnik was a mandatory voluntary turning-out of the happy workers on a weekend day, to work on some public project, back in the Workers' Paradise of the USSR. Kind of fits in with the "Ears will make you work" thing from the prospective First Harridan. Still, what a schmuck!

aka The Hussein Secret Police.

I've read portions of Hussein's speeches on this topic. Apparently, Hussein is claiming that this new squad of "volunteers" will be both inside the U.S. and outside (that is shipped overseas, like a Peace Corps.) Hussein seems to be intent upon "outdoing" (or "repairing" all that damage done by) the U.S. military. In other words (this is from Hussein's perspective) the U.S. military is all about killing and committing War Crimes, and blowin' stuff up (and thus the U.S. image abroad gets messed up). The Obama squads will then "repair" America's "image" abroad... and, it's coupled with the Obamanation's intentions to "change" Amerikkka. In other words, to re-structure Amerikkka along Communist/Socialist lines (you know, wealth redistribution, re-education camps for the recalcitrant, and the obligatory adoration of the Dear Leader), so then everyone around the world (like Jim Jong Ill and Fidel Castro) will come to just luv America. Hence the reference to "security" and how Hussein intends to keep America safe.

re: #737 NoSubmission

One of the Pali-owned delis on Bedford Ave used to have a Holy Land Foundation collection can on their counter. That and the Mohammed al Dura posters plastered in front a while back. I dont shop there anymore.

I'd be rubbing pennies with mercury, and dropping them in there as "simulated" dimes. Get enough of them in there, and the deli might become a Superfund site.

Don't be silly that the Obamanation is going to fund 500 Billion for his 250,000 narcissistic peace corp civilian spy network (ala Hugo Chavez and Robert Mugabe). He will simply reduce, with the blessings of his Dem Congress, God Forbid, the military budget to 250 Billion Dollars, and then use the other 250 billion in 'savings' to fund this militia of Obamaniacs to proselytize the world, willingly or unwillingly.
Barack, Barack uber alles...

> “civilian national security force” that is as powerful and well-funded as the US military.

Could be troublesome but so long as they swear personal loyalty to Obama... What could go wrong?

#544..I think I may go you one better. CAIR moved next door to me a couple of years ago. Needless, to say, they are not exactly the friendliest of neighbors...

Here is what happens when you post Obama's words, but do not tell the Obamabots that they are his words...

re: #47 Fast Eddie

These stupid statements fly out of Obama on a daily basis. But unless the McCain campaign starts jumping on them - very quickly - and deriding them for the inanities they are, he will get away with it.

I don't think McCain is in this to win. The messiah will institute the North American Union, Amero, et al. Obama will complete what Bush has begun. Change?, oohh yeah. Civil War when old fucks like me get pissed and shoot the Obamayouth as they invade our homes to confiscate our unsocialist guns? most assuredly.

I didn't know that was Hugo Chavez zipped up to look like Barack Obama!

Note to Obama: If you're going to send an army of peacenicks out into the world, remember to send a good supply of body bags.

Essentially, Obama is calling for the creation of a police state. It's impossible to put any other spin on this.

SS/Gestapo indeed.

Excellent idea Barry. No doubt you'll use them to guard our borders and kick the illegals out, right? Oh, then you'll use them to track down drug dealers in our cities and eliminate the violent crime they cause, right? No huh?

As for funding another $1/2 TRILLION/YEAR, well I'm sure the "rich" will be happy to pay for it along with universal health care, free college education, social security for baby boomers and every other giveaway program you can dream up.

809 Poli_wog  Wed, Jul 9, 2008 11:20:13pm

I was in the AmeriCorps. Obama's idea is a like putting Flounder and the rest of the Deltas in charge of a national security force.
