OT:
Sami al Arian in deportation hold after judge orders release from jail.

Under a plea agreement which resolved a terrorism-support case against Al-Arian in 2006, the government agreed to deport him expeditiously once he finished serving his criminal sentence in that case. An earlier trial in that case, held in federal court in Tampa, Fla., resulted in some acquittals for Al-Arian while jurors could not reach a unanimous verdict on other charges.

After pleading guilty, Al-Arian was called to appear before grand juries in Virginia investigating a web of Islamic charities, including a think tank, the International Institute for Islamic Thought. Al-Arian refused to testify before the panels, asserting that his plea agreement precluded the government from forcing his cooperation. However, two appeals courts have rejected that argument. Al-Arian spent more than a year in jail for civil contempt for defying the grand juries. His 57-month criminal sentence was put on hold repeatedly while he was jailed for contempt, but the criminal sentence ran out in April.

Al-Arian has insisted he is being persecuted by Justice Department officials sore over the disappointing result of the Tampa trial. Last year, he went on a hunger strike for 57 days and lost over 40 pounds, according to his supporters.

Mr. Turley said Mr. Kromberg acknowledged that some of the questions the government wants to ask Al-Arian pertain to issues raised at his Florida trial. Al-Arian's lawyers fear such a tactic would be an attempt to retry the Florida case by eliciting denials that could become the basis for perjury charges.

Yes, we're up to 17 genders now.

If the acronym of your gay activist group has fewer than 25 letters, you become the subject of a hate-crime innvestigation.

"Hi! Would you like to sign a petition? The members of LGBTTIQNMTFFTMCDGQDKDQAI are trying to raise awareness of indifference!"

"You're under arrest! You left off Gender-Queers!"

"No we didn't! Look again -- LGBTTIQNMTFFTMCDGQDKDQAI is Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transsexuals, Transvestites, Intersex, Questioning, Nullos, Male-To-Females, Females-To-Males, Cross-Dressers, Gender-Queers, Drag-Kings, and Drag-Queens Against Indifference. See -- we've got Gender-Queers in there."

"Yeah? Well, I just counted and your acronym is only 24 letters long, so you must have left off someone, thereby damaging their self-esteem! This is serious crime. Book 'em Joe."

From The Anchoress:

Americans did not need to speak French to save that nation…twice.

Americans did not need to speak German to save the lives of our vanquished German enemy over a long, brutal winter with the Berlin Airlift. (Less glamorous than a photo-op, true.)

Americans did not need to speak Polish or any other language to liberate concentration camps.

Americans did not need to speak anything but the language of honor and compassion to bring aid and comfort to a tsunami-torn land.

Americans did not need to speak Arabic or Urdu to take down a tyrant and liberate his people from the scourge of terrorist insurgents, or to help them to form a democracy that - if you read papers outside of the US - seems to be stabilizing in just a few years.

Americans did not need to speak any of the African languages to help foment real change in a land where people die from mosquito bites, and from an epidemic plague of AIDS.

Interestingly, the NY Times does not credit LGF for this, even though they link to this earlier LGF Fauxtoshop Iran scandal, so obviously they must have read LGF to research the article.

I think it was a hint of guilt on the NY Times' part. They didn't want to say they got the info for the missile 'Shop scandal from LGF, so they threw Charles a bone by linking to an earlier exposé.

Kudos to the NYT for publishing this. I hope it makes the print edition.

Kudos also to blogs such as Little Green Footballs which helped to break the story yesterday.

This isn’t the first time that Iranian news agencies have faked and photoshopped images as part of their propaganda campaign. This is, of course, what non-democratic states do to puff themselves up, so we shouldn’t be surprised. But too often in the past the international press agencies such as AP, AFP and Reuters have published images without critical review.

There is an old saying in the news business: “if your mother says she loves you, check it out!” Particularly when dealing with less-reliable or opaque news sources, images should be checked rigorously prior to publication.

I hope this article in The Lede is the start of a more critical appraisal of images being pushed to news agencies. It can only help the quality of the news, and the reputation of newspapers.

"Nullos"?

re: #115 zombie

Ooooh!

Tsk tsk tsk on the NY Times!

I agree. That's how it looks to me too. They threw me a bone and linked to an earlier post, but didn't want to credit me for breaking the story.

Charles sounded more knowledgable and articulate than 3/4's of the guests Prager typically has. And he knows so much about so many topics of relevance to Prager's audience.

Shouldn't Dennis and Allan consider making him a more frequent (if not regularly scheduled) commentator?

If the hamsters are giving you dirty looks that means they have too much time on their hands and have the capacity to provide more work/bandwidth for the lizard minions. /

Dare we claim that l*zy h*mst*rs have been ripping us off? (I don't want to come right out and say it. They may have a way to retaliate.)

No mention of LGF.

In the passage "Does Iran’s state media use Photoshop? The charge has been leveled before" they link to Charles (an earlier scandal) as a point of comparison.

Still over 11,000 people online, and our page views today are already over 100K.

I can't do the codes, but you ought to call your site: LGF (inc.). Then release an IPO.

Charles might I suggest tribbles as a possible hamster replacement? You'll find that tribbles possess a degree of scalabilty much greater than that of hamsters. I know that there are claims of trouble with tribbles but those are greatly exaggerated.

Listened to you on Praeger, Charles. Its great that he gives you the credit you deserve on this issue. Congrats!

With all these people watching, I guess I will have to be very careful what I type.

Eitherway, again, very well done.

I know it is not cool to ask for a "hattip" but what does it take to get an on-air mention? ;)

If it was you who sent the original suspicion of a faked photo to Charles:

No it wasn't me. I had nothing to do with this Iranian missle thing. I was just looking for some street cred. (I don't want to take credit for something I had nothing to do with)

Now if only Charles had mentioned your site...that would have been awesome for you. Eitherway, its great to hear LGF and Zombie on a progam I listen to almost every morning. Keep up the good work everyone.

Can anybody imagine Littlegreenfootballs.tv with 24 x 7 coverage of lizard issues...

Charles, is there someway and place to save your interviews on LGF, so that future generations of lizards and their hatchlings may in inculcated with LGF wisdom?

Might there be someway to determine & identify who was the lucky 10,000 viewer? If they're registered, shouldn't they get a lizard tee-shirt or coffee mug or mouse pad? -- I am assuming - meaning that I'm making an ass of myself and not anyone else - that these items are or will soon be available to Lizards everywhere...

You're right! In reviewing the post, I plead low blood sugar, and a decided tongue-in-cheek.

The fist two paragraphs were intended to be humorous. My bad!

However, having Charles sell tee-shirts, coffee mugs, etc to his profit, isn't a bad idea. Lord knows, the bill for hosting must be quite large... bandwidth costs money. Not to mention a little bit trying to the folks at HostingMatters.
