Memo to Fox News and the New York Times:

No, the New York Times did not break this story: Photo of Detonated Iranian Missiles Appears to Have Been Digitally Altered.

Please see: LGF: Iran’s Photoshopped Missile Launch.

UPDATE at 7/10/08 11:33:17 am:

In their article, the New York Times fails to credit LGF: In an Iranian Image, a Missile Too Many - The Lede - Breaking News - New York Times Blog.

They do, however, link to an earlier LGF post on Iranian fauxtography, which strongly suggests that they know very well where their “scoop” came from.

UPDATE at 7/10/08 12:06:53 pm:

The Washington Post credits the news agency that released the fake photo, Agence France Presse, for discovering the fakery: Iran Launches Another Test Missile, Draws Rebuke From Rice.

In addition, Agence France-Presse revealed today that a photograph it issued of the original missile launch was apparently doctored by Iran to exaggerate the capabilities of the weapons. The photo, widely used in newspapers and Web sites around the globe, showed four missiles being fired, when in fact only three had been captured on film.

“It very much does appear that Iran doctored the photo to cover up what apparently was a misfiring of one of the missiles,” Mark Fitzpatrick of the London-based International Institute for Strategic Studies told the French news agency.

UPDATE at 7/10/08 1:32:11 pm:

Thanks to the Washington Post for correcting the record.

In addition, the Little Green Footballs Web site revealed yesterday that Agence France-Presse issued a photograph of the missile launch that was apparently doctored by Iran to exaggerate the capabilities of the weapons.

UPDATE at 7/10/08 3:06:05 pm:

Bob Owens writes:

Early this morning, I left a comment at the Lede noting that Charles was not only the person who exposed this fraud, but Dan Rather’s faked TANG documents as well.

Nine hours later, the comment has yet to clear moderation. Mike Nizza and Patrick Witty apparently don’t feel like sharing their stolen credit with the person who actually exposed this fraud.

UPDATE at 7/10/08 3:38:53 pm:

At Hot Air: Can the MSM credit LGF, please?

UPDATE at 7/10/08 7:36:55 pm:

The Washington Post has now removed the article about the faked photo, along with the credit to LGF.
