Diggbats Inadvertently Vote for LGF

Thu, Jul 10, 2008 at 2:17:27 pm PDT

This is too funny. Our post on the fauxtoshopped Iranian missile launch was submitted to Digg.com by someone, and of course the rabid Diggbats immediately buried it to make sure it wouldn’t get to the front page: Digg - Iran’s Photoshopped Missile Launch.

So then someone else submitted the link to Tim Blair’s Daily Telegraph blog, which contained only a link to LGF (without identifying us)—and this Digg post promptly got over a thousand Diggs and made it to the front page: Digg - There’s something fishy about those Iran missile pictures ...

And a lot of the commenters are very unhappy to find out that they inadvertently voted for a post from the dreaded Little Green Footballs.

Moonbat confusion. Lots of that going around lately, with their messiah veering off the leftist line, albeit just as the occasion calls for it.

Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia.

27 Fat Jolly Penguin  Thu, Jul 10, 2008 2:28:39pm

A Diggbat named "shadowspawn":

FTA:"Unless Iranian missile exhaust tends to form remarkably regular patterns, someone's been busying himself with the clone tool."

They do. Most missles do, idiot.

They burn the same. They have to. They have the same exhaust pressures, the same fluid dynamics, the same thermodynamics, the same fuel consumption ratios, the same fuel composition and control delivery mechanisms. The same exact mechanics and tolerances. The same guidance systems. And in their report one can gain the same exact target.

In this shot: the same weather conditions. The same humidity. The same wind speed. The same temperature. The same air pressure.

The only thing that would make the plumes look different would be if they were launched in each other's wake, which is kinda not the thing to do with these types of delivery systems, or facing different directions during liftoff, or of a gyroscope needed to do corrections.

The stupid is strong with this one.

But above all the laughter, this proves that their dislike of LGF is not based on content at all. They have no idea what is said here; only what they are told is said.

The funniest part of the second link to Digg is that one of those who commented (mustard something) said very matter of factly that both Lenin and Stalin were Jews. Now please someone correct me if I am wrong, but how on earth does one come up with that? He might as well have said that Hitler, Jeffery Dohmer, Charles Manson and Atilla the Hun were Jews too.

Charles,
I'd like to suggest a sort of "affirmative" action or special ed plan for LGF. Couldn't you offer people (well, idiots, like the one referenced in no. 27}, sort of like a "trial membership" for idiots?
When you locate a raving moonbat, you could let him into your group. This would serve at least two purposes. First, it would ensure a steady supply of idiots, fresh meat as it were, for the troll eaters. Second, it might like a virus, infect the idiot (moonbatus idiotus) and cause them to think, challenge their friends or cause their heads to explode.
Then, you could adopt a snappy slogan, like "a mind is a terrible thing to waste" or "we found an idiot and we saved him".

An interesting detail of this whole kerfuffle: this was clearly a pre-planned photo-op, and surely the Photochopping took time. If Iran is as strong as they'd like to believe, why not just fix the fourth missile, rack another one, and fire a "second wave" as "part of the exercise"?

We should take seriously the idea that Iran doesn't actually have missiles that work, and they bought these from somewhere. Their pugnaciousness is not matched by sagaciousness.

Then today -- voila -- the situation has changed, and a number of news outlets have used the photo. A mistake.

I would deserve healthy heapin's of criticism if I stuck to the stance that this hasn't been widely used by Western media, when it has. Trouble is, I've changed my position on that -- those sites and outlets deserve criticism for using a fake photo, no doubt.

Oh, look: Pelosi has come up with something more important to take up Congress' time than trivial things like repealing the drilling ban:

Pelosi Says House Judiciary May Hold Hearings On Kucinich Impeachment Resolution

(The Politico) Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said this morning that the House Judiciary Committee may hold hearings on an impeachment resolution offered by Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio).

Kucinich is expected to offer a "privileged resolution" this afternoon calling on the House to look at whether President Bush should be removed from office for lying to Congress and the American public when he sought congressional approval back in 2002 for taking military action to invade Iraq and overthrow Saddam Hussein.

Pelosi has said previously that impeachment "was off the table," so her comments this morning were surprising, and clearly signaled a new willingness to entertain the idea of ousting Bush, although no one in the Democratic leadership believes that is likely since the president has only six months left in this term.

"This is a Judiciary Committee matter, and I believe we will some attention being paid to it by the Judiciary Committee," Pelosi told reporters. "Not necessarily taking up the articles of impeachment because that would have to be approved on the floor, but to have some hearings on the subject."

Pelosi added: "My expectation is that there will be some review of that in the committee."

A spokesman for the House Judiciary Committee had no immediate comment when asked whether Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.), the panel's chairman, planned hearings on Kucinich's impeachment resolutions.

Yeah, that's just the ticket for improving that 9% approval rating, Nancy...

My two cents are as follows: I think part of the problem yesterday would be that everyone (even you I think) knew this was going to be picked up and run with. I know I did. Yet you continued to argue from a point of seeming ignorance, "what western media picked it up?". When people tried to point out how often this happened, you just raised your quills and dug into your burrow, snapping at anyone that got close. This is a usual behavior from you on Media threads. On everything else you can have a rational discussion, but as soon as you hit a media thread you have a burr under your saddle. I think many of us have seen this so long that it's just easier to start poking you with a stick right off the bat and get it over with.

Either a vicious rumor to discredit him or insider information?

Some of those Russian Orthodox seminaries were awash with odd progressive politics in the late 19th, early 20th centuries. There was a Russian law (I think Peter the Great created it) that the only higher learning sons of priests could get was at seminary. The other option was to learn a trade and live by it. Hmmm. Live off the land as a peasant farmer? Slave over a hot furnace as a smith? Or go to seminary and get paid by the state to be a lousy leisurely freeloading goldbrick parish priest? This law made for lots of seminarians who had no interest in theology, church, religion, and so on.

Well, I wasn't really asking anyone anything.

The question I've raised repeatedly, and one I would like to hear answered by Obama is the following:

Senator Obama, you've called again and again for "dialogue" with Iran, given Iran's ongoing progress in nuclear technology and refusal to comply with inspections, and given a history of several years multi-party negotiations involving the EU, at what point do you deem negotiations a failure and resort to the use of military force to prevent Iran from obaining a nuclear weapon?

I honestly believe that a President Obama simply wouldn't EVER use pre-emptive force to prevent Iran from getting nukes. Meaning, that if Israel doesn't do the "dirty work" a conventional war with a nuclear theocratic Iran (if not necessarily a nuclear exchange) is virtually inevitable.

Black Racism:

TV One to offer extensive Obama coverage
By DAVID BAUDER – 1 day ago

NEW YORK (AP) — TV One, the cable network aimed at African-American viewers, will cover Barack Obama's nominating convention but is ignoring John McCain's.

The network is telecasting live, prime-time coverage of the Democratic convention in Denver Aug. 25-28, followed by "TV One Live: DNC Afterparty," with political and social commentary from panelists. TV One is available in 43.7 million households, or about 40 percent of the nation's TV homes.

Obama's nomination as the first black to be a major party presidential nominee is an historic event for African-Americans, so it's important for the network to be there, said Johnathan Rodgers, the network's president and CEO.

"While viewers can get coverage of the convention from any number of networks, we plan to cover the convention from a uniquely African American perspective," he said.

The network has no plans to cover the Republican convention.

Now, suppose a network were to announce that they would only cover McCain because he is white?

The appropriate reply to that digbat would be the following:

I cannot believe how incredibly stupid you are. I mean rock-hard stupid. Dehydrated-rock-hard stupid. Stupid, so stupid it goes way beyond the stupid we know into a whole different dimension of stupid. You are trans-stupid stupid. Meta-stupid. Stupid collapsed on itself so far that even the neutrons have collapsed. Stupid gotten so dense that no intellect can escape. Singularity stupid. Blazing hot mid-day sun on Mercury stupid. You emit more stupid in one second than our entire galaxy emits in a year. Quasar stupid. Your writing has to be a troll. Nothing in our universe can really be this stupid. Perhaps this is some primordial fragment from the original big bang of stupid. Some pure essence of a stupid so uncontaminated by anything else as to be beyond the laws of physics that we know. I'm sorry. I can't go on. This is an epiphany of stupid for me.

PS This is part of my all-time favorite put-down flame rants. For the whole thing, go here.

Sure won't get any disagreement from me on your assessment of the efficacy of the utterances of the Holy Obamassiah. He sure does like to think he knows everything. But then he wouldn't be a politician if he didn't totally believe his press releases.

Israel will do what is needed, whether it is PC or not, whether the UN and World Opinion agrees or not.

We sure are living in interesting times, I must say.

More to the point...

If we "talk" to them now that will establish a pattern of behavior that the madman and the mullahs will use over and over again to legitimize their position which is that Israel (you know the one real democratic country in the ME) should be destroyed.

This is not community organizing Barry. Those folks mean business despite the rinky dink early attempts.

I have a cat. Like most cats its cute and sweet but dumber than a stump. But what it has in its favor is time. Like time to figure out how to open a cabinet door. I heard her paw at the cabinet door where her treats were for about 2 hours and finally, viola, she was in and I was buying a new bag of treats and installing a cabinet lock the next day.

At this point I don't think too many people on this board think we have a lot of time with these cats in Iran before they figure it out. Talking has shown that it only gives them more time. And what's behind the cabinet door is only hell.

re: #299 FurryOldGuyJeans

I don't think its true in this case, but politicians do pander for votes. In other words, Obama could be saying he wants talk talk and more talk, simply because he thinks that position will earn him more votes than the contrary position, that military force is on the table.

In a country "fatigued" by the Iraq war and not desirous of a second one, that's a plausible political position.

Again, though, ultimately, I simply don't think a President Obama would take pre-emptive military action against Iran. I also don't think he has either the experience or judgment to make a good wartime leader, or to deal with Iran's inevitable provocations as they come closer to (or eventually obtain) a bomb.

As to Israel, I think Israel *would* act pre-emptively to strike Iran, but its likelihood of a successful misson would not be 100% and would be far smaller than an American mission. Also, the inevitable Iranian retaliation to such an attack could potentially be brutal. Would you trust Obama to support Israel if an Israeli attack let to a three (or four) front war against Israel with simultaneous attacks from Lebanon, Syria, Gaza, (and maybe even directly from Iran)?

319 Killgore Trout  Thu, Jul 10, 2008 4:19:34pm

Fayyad calls on Palestinians to defy Israeli army
Published: 07.11.08, 00:24 / Israel News
Prime Minister Salam Fayyad called on Palestinians on Thursday to defy the IDF order to shut down a major commercial centre in Nablus.
"Shopkeepers are invited to open their stores and ignore the Israeli decision," Fayyad said, after soldiers who searched the building ordered it closed on the grounds its owners had passed funds to Hamas. "The Israeli army orders and decisions are not valid ... We will deal with them as if they don't exist." (Reuters)

405 FurryOldGuyJeans  Thu, Jul 10, 2008 5:24:17pm

The Sydney Morning Herald sure has some interesting comments from the Obamassiah about the Iranian Missile Tests in this article:

Obama, McCain split on Iran's missile tests

Democrat Barack Obama today called for aggressive diplomacy with Iran while Republican John McCain warned against making any concessions, as Tehran's missile tests jolted the White House race.

The presidential rivals used Iran's test of a missile capable of reaching Israel to sketch sharply divergent approaches on foreign policy.

Senator Obama said Iran "must suffer threats of economic sanctions with direct diplomacy opening up channels of communication so we avoid provocation, but we give strong incentives for the Iranians to change their behaviour.

"We have to have a kind of aggressive diplomacy which unfortunately has been absent over the last several years," Obama said in an interview with CNN.

Obama has drawn fire from McCain for his offer to talk directly to the leaders of Iran and other US foes, but the Illinois Senator said only a US backed carrot-and-stick diplomatic strategy could work.

"Part of the problem that we've got right now is that we've been basically farming out the diplomatic activity to the Europeans. We've got to be actively engaged," Obama said.

WTF is aggressive diplomacy? And NOW the Obamassiah wants to STOP listening to Europe for how we should act and react?!? Can he show any more evidence of how irrational and delusional he is?!?!?

This is just so unreal. This has got to be a satire piece, right?

Eh. I'd say most of it is misplaced schadenfreude. What people seem to forget is that my first question yesterday was, "Where has this been published?" No one had an answer, beyond a French news service.

So I made my point, which no one has really disputed.

But to criticize me today for a story that didn't truthfully exist yet yesterday is a bit weak. And my point -- linked above -- still stands.

Oh..sorry..your previous words still make you a tool.

Given the amateur level of the work in the picture, I would not be surprised if Charles was not the only one to notice and point it out. The NYT however, had obviously gotten it from Charles and failed to note that not insignificant detail.

The Catholic AL Sharpton is seething over "crackergate".....
Fight back against Bill Donohue!

So far today, I have received 39 pieces of personal hate mail of varying degrees of literacy, all because I was rude to a cracker. Four of them have included death threats, a personal one day record. Thirty-four of them have demanded that I be fired. Twenty-five of them have told me to desecrate a copy of the Koran, instead, or in some similar way offend Muslims, because — in a multiplicity of ironic cluelessness — apparently only some religious icons must be protected, and I would only offend Catholics because they are all so nice that none of them would wish me harm. I even have one email that says I should be fired, that the author would like to kill me, and that I only criticize because Catholics are so gentle and kind.

Oh, and of course, the university president's office has also received lots of mail demanding my immediate ouster (keep in mind, though…Catholics are no threat to anyone at all.) I don't know how much, but since Donohue published the president's email address and not mine, I imagine it's much greater than what I've seen. Those lovely Dark Age fanatics at the Catholic League have started a write-in campaign to start up an inquisition.

549 Cognito  Thu, Jul 10, 2008 6:15:31pm

re: #275 EC Marm

Instead of always being the defender of the MSM, why not occasionally offer your opinion on the event itself. Here's a sample question:

Just how seriously should we take an Islamic Republic that seems to be hell-bent on acquiring a nuclear device, yet can achieve no better than a 75% successful launch rate, and tries to cover up that fact with digital manipulation? That seems to be the question of the day.

I'd love to talk about the event itself. That's often my point, here: Let's talk about, say, the Iranians instead of the messengers.

So.

Iran is a tricky question, and people a lot smarter than I am -- with much better information -- are apparently stumped by it. But I'd say that for now we should squeeze Iran as hard as possible, with hopes that it'll crack from the inside out.

Otherwise, the moment it appears they've got the bomb -- or better, that the bomb is inevitable -- we should strike their facilities.

That's where the tricky bit that I mentioned comes into play. Is it possible to strike such a facility? If so, can we strike it without causing massive, horrific collateral damage -- in which case the mullahs will be effectively holding their own population hostage? If it's possible, what sort of force should we present -- could a broad coalition be assembled quickly in the face of Iranian volatility? Maybe, maybe not.

At any rate, those are my initial thoughts. I'd love to hear yours, too.

re: #549 Cognito

At any rate, those are my initial thoughts. I'd love to hear yours, too.

After making the Islamic Republic of Iran a primary focus of interest for more than a year I recently abandoned any hope for them. My perception is that, just as the Japanese felt that their Emperor was a G-d, and would go to their graves fighting for him, the people of Iran have been almost totally subjugated and brainwashed by the regime, the ideology, and the mullahs. Sad to say, and I really mean that, I can't see the ending of this being much different then how WWII ended for the Japanese.
Just as no one wanted an inch by inch land war on Japanese soil, Iran is too large for any sort of volunteer force to handle. I'm afraid this is not going to end well.
What the U.S. should do is unpopular and would no doubt never pass the House and Senate. Which leaves the most likely first target, Israel, to go it alone. Given their history in dealing with existential threats, I'm sure they will act.
