Tony Snow was a man of class. The latimes and their readers are showing their lack of class.

It makes you wonder if the LLL are so delusional they believe their overheated screeching. Nobody said "rest in peace" for Hitler and, in the fevered minds of the LLL, Bush and everyone who even peripherally works for or supports him is as bad as Hitler, so what's the difference?

You see the profiles on TruTV of serial killers who lived among neighbors, co-workers, and even family members for years without raising any suspicion. You think "I would have noticed something, I'm sure." But then you consider, "Well, if nobody else suspected him, perhaps I wouldn't have, either." Not everyone who's seriously disconnected from reality is an obvious, raving lunatic.

I think it's possible that there could be a significant number of Americans who actually drink the KoolAid, live in the fever swamps, think Bush is Hitler and Cheney is Darth Vader (They're Star Wars fans, maybe), but don't seem like lunatics to those around them. Well, unless you get them started on politics.

I absolutely loved Tony Snow.

I think that the Republican National Convention should print some of these comments, pass them out to attendees and say...

"THIS IS WHO WE ARE FIGHTING! DO NOT SAY WE SHOULD NOT BE MOBILIZED AND BEHIND MCCAIN!"

Then they should print some of the comments on Billboards and say,

"THESE ARE OBAMA SUPPORTERS, WHAT SIDE ARE YOU ON?"

M'fers.

This was more appropriate on the previous thread, but -- here's a quickie new post of zomblog:

The Obama Meme: Chapter 1

Yesterday I visited a craft fair in San Francisco. I wasn’t there as “zombie,” or looking for something political to blog about — I was just looking to shop for craft-y arts and accessories.

Luckily, I followed my new rule: Never leave home without a camera.

Because even here, in the most unlikely of places, the Obama Meme cropped up again. It seems there’s no way to avoid it. Amongst the handmade earrings and stuffed animals and trendy silkscreened t-shirts were images of our culture’s new folk icon, Barack Obama.

Unfortunately, I was more than halfway through the fair before I recognized the pattern of Obama imagery around me, so I didn’t photograph many of them. But I did catch a few snapshots of Obama idolatry as I strolled through the remaining booths.

Keep in mind that the craft fair was in no way political, and needless to say I didn’t see any other candidates mentioned or depicted. It’s just that iconic pictures of Obama have already become a standard feature in the fashion world. Is Obama the new Che?
...
Here’s a handmade greeting card featuring Obama as a Pez dispenser — or, in his case, “Prez” dispenser.

In Egypt, about the year 350, a careless and sinful monk died and many were saying bad things about him. A young monk asked an elder monk to stop the people's evil-speaking. The elder monk replied that God looks for reasons to bless everyone. If God will bless an evil monk for being dishonored, what will he do with an honorable man's calumny?

If he is cursed, God will bless.

39 psyop  Sun, Jul 13, 2008 1:21:13pm

It is a striking juxtaposition to see how the left reacts to the death (or illness) of a "right-wing" guy compared to the right's reaction to the same situation of a "left-wing" person.

In short, the right has far more compassion in the ranks than the left could ever hope to have. This kind of thing at the LA Times is disgusting and far more frequent than people should be comfortable with.

Agreed, although I never met him, I talked to him a few times on his radio show, even off air, and when he pinch-hit for O'Reilly (He was supposed to be O'Reilly's permanent guest host) on his radio show earlier this year, and he was a genuinely nice and decent guy. This is because the dead can't defend themselves. Those who bad-mouth them are vile.

Let me relate just one story which I think illustrates the kind of mench Tony was. He was sitting in the hospital room after surgery when a call comes in from Dana Perino. She was worried about a few issues related to an upcoming press conference and wanted to run them by Tony. Mind you, he's recovering from surgery, has to be in pain - though you'd never know it - and he's focused on how to help Dana. Tony reassured Dana and gave her a pep-talk that was nothing less than inspirational.

That's the true Tony Snow.

It's tragic that such viciousness has to exist and be confronted, but it's urgent for us to recognize that what presents on the left's emotional level also is present on the physical and mental level.

Leftists will tear apart and 'kill' someone psychologically - even as pure a person as Tony Snow - they will destroy their reputation, and sully their memory. On the physical level, we need to understand that they will just as readily 'kill', tear apart, destroy, and sully any principle, institution or individual who stands in the way of their agenda.

Imagine having to live inside their heads. Their entire existence is one shrill hissy fit.

Rage is Good. It is almost as good as orgasm.

Inside their heads is an orgy. The afterglow, a celebration of their own moral enlightenment and superior sensitivity. Their quest is for new and more exquisite refinements of moral and political sensibility, their causes are selected in order to stage endless orgies of self-congratulation and to legitimize rage.

Political Hate is the Opium of the Left.

That is why my acquaintance at a party buffet can comment with a sigh that eating strawberries reminds him of those who have no strawberries, these wretched of earth who must stoop and sweat for slave wages to provide them to piggish Americans. Among his own, he will be brought to climax, perhaps together they will be enpurpled, engorged with rage, until hate explodes. "Vile criminals that criminal Cheney!"

They always play to the gallery, the chorus, the mutual gratification machine of the Left that screams, "I Care! I Care Because I am Good and Noble! Rage! Rage against the criminals who oppose us!"

It is the nature of the far left to be aggressive, activist and collectivist in operation, and the nature of the right to be cautious, passive (conservative), and individual (independence rather than groupthink) in terms of mental and physical dynamics.

I think that the comment by the lady who said that just because you died that it didn't make you a good person. LOL!
No, it doesn't make you any kind of a person.

How totally absurd. Some of these people are just plain slimy. They have no shame and nothing is ever their fault.

I actually saw a post at DK where a woman said that she and her Down syndrome son had been seated at a restaurant and the couple next to them were upset because of their son so she immediately labeled that woman as a Republican! The woman may have been rude and insensitive, but how do you jump to the conclusion that she was a Republican?!

These people who spew this garbage do not want anything good or decent to be allowed in our society. They want to be angry, seething with hatred. They hate people they know, they hate people they do not know and they hate people that they will never know in the future.

Now, I don't believe that all Democrats are bad or that all Republicans are good. However, I do believe in what is right and what is wrong. Regardless of political ideology, we are all human beings. So sad that these extremists would choose to just hate people because they do not have the same point of view. They are really missing a lot of what life has to offer.

They spew out their hatred for humanity and principles of decent behavior but then expect strangers to take care of them without question.

Oh, yes.

Oh, they will pay lip service to being principled people who want "decent behavior", but what they really want is "decent behavior" from everyone else (and that is defined as agreement with them and what they want), but they feel absolutely no obligation to engage in decent behavior themselves if you happen to disagree with them.

81 scorpio  Sun, Jul 13, 2008 1:51:47pm

I rarely comment here at LGF although I read it daily. I must comment now, though, just to get it out of my system. Tony Snow was a decent man. The despicable comments at the LA Times - and other websites - reveal much more about the commenters than they do about Tony. I am a very partisan conservative Republican. I don't hesitate to speak out against anyone with whom I disagree. When someone dies, that's a different matter altogether. Disagreements no longer matter. Or they shouldn't. A little respect for the dead, and their loved ones, is really not too much to ask of civilized people.

R.I.P. Tony. Yours was a life well lived and you will be missed.

It's tougher for the right to 'bring it'.

It is the nature of the far left to be aggressive, activist and collectivist in operation, and the nature of the right to be cautious, passive (conservative), and individual (independence rather than groupthink) in terms of mental and physical dynamics.

More's the pity...

It will be the nature of the far left to be dead should they decide to become physical. I may be retired from the Marines but I'm still halfway young and my eyesight's still good.

Tony Snow was brilliant speaker and model conservative. But, he was also a Caucasian male. That is what the LA times and its “majority minority” constituents hate.

Unfortunately, racism and hate against Caucasians run rampant in the city of Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Times is happy to provide fuel to the fire.

re: #55 runrabbitrun

It's tragic that such viciousness has to exist and be confronted, but it's urgent for us to recognize that what presents on the left's emotional level also is present on the physical and mental level.

Leftists will tear apart and 'kill' someone psychologically - even as pure a person as Tony Snow - they will destroy their reputation, and sully their memory. On the physical level, we need to understand that they will just as readily 'kill', tear apart, destroy, and sully any principle, institution or individual who stands in the way of their agenda.

It bears repeating, runrabbitrun. Thank you.

They spew out their hatred for humanity and principles of decent behavior but then expect the government implement policies to force strangers to take care of them without question.

I think that is a key point of the left. These are people who define charity as the act of using state power to make someone else pay the bills. The fact that they exempt themselves from paying is irrelevant, the proof of their caring and compassion is the ability to look at a problem, then look and someone else and demand to that person, "YOU pay to fix that problem!" It is what defines their demeanor, it is what defines their character, and, as time goes on, it becomes an internal rage against those who have being resistant to the leftist's demand for more "charity" and "compassion" from the person being ordered to provide it.

As Thanos pointed out on earlier thread, however, many of the surviving jihadis have fled to Afghanistan. It is obvious that they will be bringing their financial and western ideological and media support with them.

Look for a serious Ministry of Truth style reversal in the left's phony bait-and-switch support for our Afghan operations.

One of the problems of western groups who see themselves as spiritually morally and intellectually advanced, politically and diplomatically superior, blahblahblah ad nauseum, is that they fail to take into account that when dangerously unadvanced groups use medieval war tactics against them - the only way to prevail is to use the same tactics right back.

If you don't, the only ones left are the unevolved barbarians. That is NOT taking the moral high ground, in terms of human advancement.

Yea, I happened to catch that post also and couldn't help wonder how absurd a person could be to draw that conclusion. Imho, I would have thought exactly the opposite since we know most liberals exhibit behavoir just like that and think a child like that should have been aborted and hate fat people.

If you ask me the lady is just projecting her anger at an imagined nemesis for being morbidly obese and having a son with Downes syndrome because she really hates herself.

Look I have alot of compassion and think if the other woman was exhibiting such behavoir it was wrong, but the lady did say she was 100 lbs. overweight and had a son with Downes syndrome, short of walking in with a neon sign around her neck, does she actually think noones going to notice?

109 Ledger1  Sun, Jul 13, 2008 2:21:18pm

I only point out population fragmentation because it is hard for people who don’t live in Los Angeles to understand the fragmentation of this city.

When you are in LA proper you will find yourself in odd world where everyone seems to be speaking a different language. It breeds distrust and a certain amount of racism against Caucasians of European decent (even though most Mexicans are considered Caucasian on bank loans).

This fragmentation is often used by partisan players like the LA times for division and weakening of their opponent.

Here are some statistics from the year 2000 and it has only become more fragmented after that date.

City of Los Angeles Demographics 2000:

White persons, percent, 46.9%
Black persons, percent, 11.2%
American Indian, percent, .8%
Asian persons, percent, 10%
Native Hawaiian, percent, .2%
Persons of some other race, 25.7%
Persons reporting two or more races, 5.2%
Persons of Hispanic origin, 46.5%

Other data:
Language other than English spoken at home, 57%

Yes. The power elite on the Left understands manipulation, how to reward and punish, motivate and recruit.

I see you know how all of the above have only to do with emotional and psychological gratification, it's so easy and immediately effective to use these methods to get subjects voters to fall in line. Even the use of money as reward (i.e. government checks and payments) appeals to instant gratification.

It is so much quicker to use these principles to condition the electorate. Teaching history and logic, in terms of policy creation and its long-term ramifications takes time and effort - it's a generational project, nearly hopeless given the direction of our present academic system.

112 pimp_conservative  Sun, Jul 13, 2008 2:27:33pm

I love pointing this out to lefties but look at the different reactions between the left and right to illness or death of one's political opponents.

Case in point: Ted Kennedy and Tony Snow

Ted Kennedy gets brain cancer, everyone on the right, even though we think he's a liberal jackass of the first order, wished him well and a speedy recovery.

Tony Snow dies after a long fight with colon cancer, and the left screams that it didn't come soon enough or why couldn't Bush get cancer and die too.

It'd be nice to have a top level post from Charles itemizing these differences.

It is becoming more and more apparent that the far left is bereft of common decency and decorum.

This was, by almost any measure, one of the nicest gentlemen in Washington - liked by many on the left and right.

However, when one cannot expect any semblance of reason or analytical thought behind an almost theological zeal for their far left causes, why would one expect decency.

Now, as a maninthemiddle, I recognize that the denizens of the far right might have many of the same distasteful attributes - but the followers of John Birch do not have hundreds of millions in funding and large following.

I concur completely. One of the reasons I like LGF and other conservative blogs is because although there are many politicians/public figures in the world many of us don't particularly like, LGF doesn't ever turn into a vile hate fest.

As has been pointed out before, it is very disconcerting that so many Obama supporting artwork bears such a strong resemblance to the artwork promulgated throughout the old Soviet Union, Communist China, Hitler's Germany, Mussolini's Italy, and numerous other lesser communist countries. This is *not* a good sign (so to speak)

Somewhere out there in the pits of Hell the framers of Germany in the 1930's are laughing out loud as men of good will are threatened with monstrous hate.

re: #27 zombie

To lefties, everything is and must be political.
Politics must rule every moment of existence.
Just as, to Islamists, every moment of life must be dictated by Islam.

"Is Obama the new Che?" -

That is brilliant.

I nominate it for new rotating title!

For many on the far left, politics serves the same purpose as religion.

This has become so typical of the left. It's not enough to have disagreements about politics with people, they must demonize and show their utter disdain and contempt without any room for simple human decency. Even after death they continue their expressions of self-righteous hate. Quite disgusting, indeed. I had to stop reading that vicious bile lest my blood pressure shoot up.

Contrast this typically "Kosnian" hate fest with reactions by many conservatives in the blogosphere to the news of Sen. Kennedy's brain cancer. With few exceptions, the comments expressed sorrow over his condition and best wishes to him and his family. Despite the fact he is Public Enemy No. 1 to many of conservatives, myself included, most of us still found room in our hearts to express simple sympathy with a suffering fellow human being and his family. It was actually on of my proudest moments as a conservative, and I was impressed by the caliber of many people who call themselves "Conservative." As well as the caliber of people who post here and some the other conservative blogs.

I guess we really are better than that.

This is why you can't trust the hearts and minds of the left...

133. Because there obviously is no god, nor heaven and hell, I've always adhered to the idea that if you are saddned by the deaths of your friends and family, you should equally be gladdened by the deaths of people you hate. Tony Snow was a professional liar and willing member of the most notorious administration in this country's history. I didn't know him personally, but professionally he was a BS artist extraordinaire. This was the best cancer since Lee Atwater's brain tumor. Submitted by: Shaun Mason 4:02 PM PDT, July 12, 2008

The actual comment is here. you'd think Shaun's papa would have taught him better. guess again.

re: #155 Kostya Lotz

That post by Shawn is an amazing demonstration of how self centered leftist idiots view the world. Since he's decided there is no God, everyone who's saddened by some loved one's death should be equally happy at the death of someone they hate. Of course, the fact that anyone could disagree with his view doesn't enter his little brain. He's decided there is no God, thus everyone should adhere to his silly view of things. Period, end of story.

Liberal Logic (two words that definitely exclude each other) on display folks!

Is it me, or is Tony Snow's obituary the only one that even allows people to comment? I looked at most of the other LATimes obits, and I didn't find any others that allowed comments.
