British Muslims Plead Guilty in Transatlantic Terror Plot

Mon, Jul 14, 2008 at 9:30:14 am PDT

Three of the eight British Muslims accused of plotting to blow up airliners on transatlantic flights have pleaded guilty.

LONDON (AFP) - Three British men accused of plotting suicide attacks on transatlantic flights on Monday pleaded guilty to conspiring to cause explosions.

The pleas of Abdulla Ahmed Ali, 27, Assad Sarwar, 28, and Tanvir Hussain, 27, came as their trial at Woolwich Crown Court in south-east London was drawing to a close.

The trio and two other defendants, Ibrahim Savant, 27, and Umar Islam, 30, also pleaded guilty to conspiring to cause public nuisance by publishing videos threatening suicide bomb attacks.

Sudanese president charged with genocide

Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir was charged at the International Criminal Court in The Hague on Monday with genocide and crimes against humanity, with the indictment alleging he orchestrated the violence that has devastated his country's Darfur region and left hundreds of thousands dead.

Good news right?

Well, check the moonbat comments on the page...

I have no respect for the International Criminal Court. Unless and until the Court charges George W. Bush, Tony Blair, Condoleeza Rice, Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld with genocide and war crimes it is not doing its job. The war mongering begun by these thugs continues unchecked at the cost of world peace and security. Each one of these people is cleary guilty of crimes against humanity; will they ever be called to task and face the consequences of their reprehensible actions? I fear not.

Moreover, giving the bail-out to another country who is perhaps hiding capital within the business, but hedging their bet against assuming the loss, riding the back of the American tax-payer?

I am asking because I can only speculate, but have not any true knowledge beyond general finance. Just look at my post, and this should be obvious.

I appreciate any response, albeit, I won't check again until about an hour from now.

That's easy. Constantine would claim that the Iraqi and Afghan "insurgents" are simply true patriotic freedom fighters, doing what you or I would if an aggressive hegemonic power invaded.

Never mind the fact that they slaughter their own people en masse due to pure religious zealotry.

re: #83 Kenneth

Um, Constantine... if there are no terrorists, and everything is a false-flag operation, why are there insurgents in Iraq & Afghanistan killing Americans (and civilians)? Does it make any sense for the CIA to arm & direct thousands of phony terrorists to kill Americans thereby making the US invasion & conquest of Iraq all the more difficult? If the US is in Iraq to steal their oil, why would the CIA direct their phony terrorists to blow up pipelines? Doesn't really make much sense does it?

Maybe this "Constantine" went crazy because he just couldn't handle the idea that there are a lot of people out there who want to kill or enslave us.
His little mind couldn't get around the concept, and snapped instead.

I didn't see anything about any Dubai investments. What I got out of it was an accounting change rule, that if forced to put those off-balance-sheet assests back on the balance sheet would force them to value them according to the mark-to-market rule. I assume that's the rule they're talking about as it was instituted post-Enton. Basically what it means is that you have to value your assets according to what they would fetch on the market that day.

The problem comes in when there is no market for your assets - then what are they worth?

Yes, we taxpayers are up to our eyeballs paying for this crap.

Yeah, but if you read the story really carefully, that "base" had been built only three days before the attack; doesn't require a Napoleonic mind to figure out how to attack such a new base.
And further down you'll read that the "insurgents" lost 40 men killed. That's them 40, us 9. While I do hate to see any American Casualties, that's the kind of kill ratio the Taliban/Al-Q can't tolerate for long.

Hey {wahabi} - I forwarded that to 3-Wood for his take on it, but the reality is that an AWFUL lot of "Taxpayers" bought this crap in the first place, through their 401's, Union (and other) Pension Plans and the like.
What pisses me off, is that these "Off sheet/On sheet" investments were supposed to be made in accordance with S&P's now Three volume set of rules for things like Commercially Mortgage Backed Securities and for at least the last three or four years, the S&P guidelines were virtually ignored in the rush to get the "points" in - close the deal whether ready to or not attitude - to reflect the profit from them on the balance sheets.

Oh, I absolutely agree. And as poorly as the regulators did in checking out the credit status of the borrowers and the honesty of the lenders, this all started with the Community Reinvestment Act, Congress's sop to minorities to get more of them into home ownership.

And don't get me started on Moody's et. al.

128 realwest  Mon, Jul 14, 2008 10:33:27am

re: #125 wahabicorridor
Yeah, if anyone has had ANY doubts about the focus or integrity of journalists these days, that kind of reporting should set 'em straight.
Hell, even my "Taliban lose 40 men while killing 9 Americans in a failed attempt to take over a newly constructed fortification" would have been more accurate and to the point.
Ya really gotta read these "news" gems all the way to the bitter end to try to get any context at all.

re: #127 wahabicorridor
Yeah and what pisses me off is that the Community Reinvestment Act was such a blatant fraud on minorities and yet their elected representatives (hello Rangle, Dingus Dingle, et. al.) fought like hell to get them.
I suppose it never occured to them that their consitutients would LOSE their new homes simply because they couldn't afford to pay enough to keep them, NOT because they were minorities.

More than likely, you're right. They'll do reduced time and then be released, but that is where the fun starts.
The UK won't be able to deport them, so they'll have to stay in the UK. Because of the terms of their release or their notoriety, they won't be able to work (home confinement, etc.), so the gove will put them on the dole. With multiple wives, children, etc., their incomes will rise.
So, they "work" in prison for 3 years and then get to retire on the taxpayer's expense. Good work if you can get it.

135 NemoParticularis  Mon, Jul 14, 2008 11:44:21am

re: #33 wahabicorridor

I don't understand. Why would they plead guilty? Britain won't deport them, so that's not a concern. Do the lawyers cut deals as they do here, e.g., cut them a break if they flip?

The Brits do not execute those convicted of capital crimes. They may have plea bargained for more, um, luxurious accommodations by sparing the Crown the cost of a lengthy trial.

138 hellosnackbar  Mon, Jul 14, 2008 12:52:59pm

The three vermin who pleaded guilty have ,no doubt, done so because of the preponderent weight of evidence against them;in the forlorn hope that
they might be released sometime before they reach 60yrs.
I predict that they will receive a minimum of 30yrs(and their sojourn at HMP)will not be a pleasant one.
Accidents such as trapping their fingers in closing cell doors will no doubt occur with great regularity together with accidental scaldings.
They are likely to spend much time in solitary confinement apart from visits
from men in fancy dress(to attend to their spiritual needs).
I don't know who Constantine is; but he may be blogging from the interior of a padded cell (if he's not then that's where he belongs.)

139 Is it me?  Mon, Jul 14, 2008 1:12:12pm

I read the article in the Mail and nearly frothed at the mouth!
How the hell can you charge people with *conspire to cause public nuisance* when they are distributing videos threatening suicide bomb attacks on Britain. Thats terrorism.
Their defence that the small devices were going to be set around London to object to British foreign policy weren't meant to kill or cause injuries is pure unadulterated crap. Hydrogen peroxide bombs have been described as *powerful* and their list of targets (Parliament, Terminal 3, *iconoc* buildings (could mean historic) or oil refineries ) give the lie to their defense. You don't target buildings unless you intend to do real damage, especially if you want to be immortilised. That takes a big bang.
We'll have to wait to see if they get deported after any sentence. I hope so. NuLabour, the CPS and the judiciary - loony land.
