Why try to keep up with someone or drag them down to your level? Create your own trail and let everyone follow you.

Other quotes attributed to Q. Crisp:

For flavor, instant sex will never supersede the stuff you have to peel and cook.

Life was a funny thing that happened to me on the way to the grave.

And perhaps of some relevance to the all the ID threads:

It is not the simple statement of facts that ushers in freedom; it is the constant repetition of them that has this liberating effect. Tolerance is the result not of enlightenment, but of boredom.

I don't think I've ever heard of Quentin Crisp, had to do a search. Sounds like a very interesting person! He:

famously commented on the death of Diana, Princess of Wales: 'She could have been Queen of England – and she was swanning about Paris with Arabs. What disgraceful behavior. Going about saying she wanted to be the queen of hearts. The vulgarity of it is so overpowering'. (Atlanta Southern Voice, 1 July 1999)

ISP humor:

it has been decided that we need a new ISP: connectivity issues since april, total lack of GAS on the part of ATT to fix the issue, nor to try last possible fix (new modem) without us paying for it, even though we've had this one 5 years, and their tech people haven't anything else to try.

to add insult to injury, they gutted the news group server, yanking all the alt.* groups, on the grounds of child pornography, courtesy of that fuckwit in new york..... what utter bullshit.

went to the Verizon web page to check availability, and keep getting "can't find your addy, please try again" results, except on the fiber optic page, where it clearly said "not in your area"..... what a kludgy POS they have for a web page. it hardly bodes well for their service.

on to other, lesser providers, who may still have a clue.

She's 17, and it's her blog, she can say whatever she wants to, they don't have to read it or comment. And the commenters were alternately condescending and mockingly rude, I can't imagine that them going on about her needing to spell better is something she needs to take to heart.

She's a year younger than my son, so I know quite a few teenagers her age, and I think she's doing a fine job.

I just gave her blog and the aptly named commenter 'Woody' a quick look. She's doing fine. This is great exercise. She take positions and then has to defend them. If only more of us got started at 17....

Well, it looked to me like the one who was trying to be serious was simply disagreeing with her interpretation of scripture (didn't read every comment of course) and her opinion. So personally, I wouldn't say that she needed to take their differing opinion to heart.

But I might be misinterpreting what you're trying to say. I'm going to blame it on the time of night, and your truly scary icon. LOL

depending on where you are of course, try Covad. They provide the actual service for a lot of little mom and pop isp's and connectivity is good, tech service is ok but their price ... not so good imho. regular cust. service (billing and such) can be problematic also. equipment always worked. any problems were because of intro of new software or Microsuck update. Problems were resolved quickly by folks who knew what they were talking about.

Not too many actual players when you start digging to find someone other than your cable company-verzion-att --- etc.

I just did a quick read... but it seemed to me she had misconstrued what her most vociferous commentor had written, about the bible being used by some for racist purposes. It is hard sometimes to tell whether a writer is endorsing a viewpoint or merely reporting it, thus a more constructive approach would be to ask questions rather than make statements, IMO. She will learn of course... it is all part of the process of learning how to interact with others, and we all know how difficult it is to communicate intent online with just words (compared to seeing the person with whom one is speaking.)

Well, stay a way from Qwest. Those assholes shut down 2 of their DNS servers (207.108.224.1 & 204.147.80.5 and maybe more) last Thursday and didn't have the decency to let their customers know. Instead they said I needed a new modem as mine had gone "bad" and wanted to sell me a new one. Went to Best Buy instead and bought one. Guess what? It didn't work either. I switched to the Opendns that Charles mentioned in the poisoned dns thread (lurking from work) and voila, we were back on-line. I suspect the idiots got hacked and are too embarrassed to admit it.

I think it is great that you are doing a political blog, great to have you involved. Spelling and grammar isn't everything, the tenor of your voice and especially the wisdom of your views matter more. So, hang in there, and remember that old saying; Illigitimi non Carborundum (which is supposed to be Latin for: don't let the bastards wear you down).

re: #40 conservativeChick

One of the more productive methods of approaching different people is through the asking of questions (c.f. Charles when he interacts in his blog.)

So, if someone writes a comment with which your first inclination is to disagree vehemently, what you might try to do is break down your objection into a few questions to ask them first, to get them to flesh out what they are saying.

If someone is just being outright rude... as with in-person communications you might just ignore them... it often works best.

Spelling and grammar... probably not worth worrying about too much, just keep working at it. One of the few things that improve as we age is our ability to communicate... you'll get better the more you do.

Its grey, cold and blowy here in Wales - well, it would be, wouldn't it, as it was just like that day before yesterday, on St Swithin's Day ... which means it'll go on like that for forty days!

My mothers father who is my grandpa but I call him papa and my dads sister my aunt Danielle take me and my two younger to have lunch and go freak watching, it is so much fun to laugh and point at the freaks. Here is a example of how moonbatty Olympia is, only in Olympia would you see dozens of gay pride flags around a children's store. Wonderful isn't?

In the month of June, supporters like you helped raise $52 million. And together with the DNC, we now have nearly $72 million in the bank. That's a very strong financial position to be in.

But we remain at a massive disadvantage to our opponents.

As I mentioned in my video message earlier in the week, the McCain Campaign and the Republican National Committee finished June with nearly $100 million in the bank.

We can't stop now. It's going to take everything we've got to defeat John McCain and his allies in November.

In today's email from the Obama for King of America Committee. Note the emboldened bit, framing McCain as an ENEMY... as if McCain were the enemy!

Real class, Obama.

Send us $5 in change? Loose Change? Spare Change? to strengthen our FIFTY-TWO MILLION DOLLAR POSITION? Spare Change?

Karradine, if you're still around what's the local take on this.

You REALLY wanna know?
The Thai govt made an agreement with Cambodia, "temple-ruins are YOURS, the land remains OURS", then the 'loyal opposition' in this parliamentary monarchy played politics and refused to legitimize the signed agreement, THEN

...the UNESCO declared the spot a World Heritage site, and the governing coalition tried to get things cleared up, but the opposition AND the People for Democratic Coercion screamed in the streets, and the legitimate government was hamstrung

UNLESS they could modify the not-yet-ratified new Constitution, and that got the People's Democratic Coercion Group up again, so hothead Thais went stealing into Cambodia near the Temple site, got arrested, and are now enabling some SERIOUS Victim Theater here...

And it is NOWHERE NEAR getting the curtain rung down, Neo!

164 3 wood  Thu, Jul 17, 2008 5:13:27am

Good Morning Lizards.

I don't know if this was linked yet, but it looks like Jesse Jackson is in trouble again:

Fox News: Jesse used n-word

Here's the other thing the Rev. Jesse Jackson said on Fox News two weeks ago about Barack Obama: "He's talking down to black people ... telling n-----s how to behave," according to various Web sites.

This could become interesting:

Jackson's alleged use of the n-word is ironic because Jackson has called on African Americans not to use it.

After "Seinfeld" actor Michael Richards' racist rant in a comedy club two years ago, Jackson said on Fox and in his Chicago Sun-Times column that the n-word is a "hate word ... it's a punch in the groin disguised as a word. ... It is divisive, it is painful. One cannot sanitize this. So whether it is degrading or self-degrading, whether it is hate or self-hate, it is wrong."

Jackson has apologized for the remarks he thought were not being taped, saying they were "crude." He was traveling in Europe on Wednesday and could not be reached for comment.

Since way back when I was in college, Jesse's nickname around Chicago was "The Human Moth" cause he was never around except when camera lights went on. I remember a friend of mine who helped organize the Bud Biliken Parade for some years (long a fixture int he black community) told me this story. He said that he could not even get a return phone call from Operation Push headquarters when looking for some help in setting up the parade. But when the parade started and the camera lights went on, here came Jesse through the crowd to the front of the parade, linked arms with the front row and acted like he had set the whole thing up.

Looks like the camera lights may have caught up to Jesse Jackson.

Two shot within two blocks on South Side

A teenage boy and man were shot during a conflict with an attacker Wednesday night in the South Side’s Grand Crossing neighborhood.

The shooting happened about 11:10 p.m. in the 900 block of East 79th Street, said police News Affairs Officer John Henry. Calumet Area detectives said a man and a teenage boy were shot during a confrontation with an attacker.

Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado said one person was taken from the 7900 block of South Maryland Ave. to Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center in critical condition about 11:15 p.m.

A second person was taken from the 7900 block of South Ingleside Avenue to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in critical condition about 11:20 p.m., Rosado said.

MICHELLE TO STAY AT HOME

Now she's all clingy. Bitterly clinging to the hood ornament on the Obama Bus.

Going, Going...

Alright, he's not going to publicly repudiate her, but lemme ast you dis: Do you think that at this time last year, either one of them would have even imagined that he would go campaigning in Europe with three major network anchors, and Michelle Obama would stay at home?

She's not under the bus yet--but the pavement is doing a job on her heels.

228 Irish Rose  Thu, Jul 17, 2008 6:11:40am

I believe that Michelle is posting this because some of us have been rather critical of the way that she encourages white nationalism.

We've had some spirited discussion over there lately regarding bigotry and white supremacism, her blog is crawling with VB apologists and rabid anti-Mexican idjits who hate all Mexicans and want to deport all of them, even those who are US citizens. One of her members was advocating sending our troops to the Mexican border, with orders to shoot to kill.

Michelle deletes comments containing the word "r*ghead* rather quickly. She claims that she doesn't agree with comments that support the idea of deporting Mexican-American citizens along with illegals, but she publicly stated that she's not going to censor them either.

In light of the racist filipino comments that she has received in the past, the selective bigotry over there is rather disturbing. I've been a reader and member over at MM for a long time and I've lost a great deal of respect for her over this issue, I'm sorry to say.

Honorable Exchange?

Hamas made it clear Wednesday that it intended to do just that.

"As there was an honorable exchange today, we are determined to have an honorable exchange for our own prisoners" held in Israeli jails, Gaza's Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh said. "Let them answer our demands." Israel holds about 10,000 Palestinians in prison.

Haniyeh's spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri went further, saying the swap "shows that the only successful way to free the prisoners is by kidnapping soldiers."

Adding insult to injury Samir Kantar returns home to a hero's welcome in full military uniform.

Samir Kantar was sentenced to three life terms for killing an Israeli man in front of his 4-year-old daughter, then killing the little girl by smashing her skull with his rifle butt.

During the grisly attack, the girl's 2-year-old sister was accidentally smothered by her mother during a desperate attempt to silence the child's cries as the two hid in a crawl space.

Well, I hate to raise this topic but it seems we're on it daily now anyway. Pat Pukeanan said in the rant Charles published yesterday that Darwin claimed matter came out of non-matter. I always thought that Darwin pretty much left the topic of where the matter came from alone, dealing with the forms of life he saw around him instead. Is that not true? Just curious because I don't think there's a conflict between an Intelligent Designer and the process of evolution and I know some here think the same way.

Some good news to report this morning! My son is going to be home next Wednesday for two weeks of leave time.

It's all we're going to get before the next deployment I'm afraid, but it'll have to do. It's looking more and more like Afghanistan is going to be his next stop.

My three kids all had banner birthdays this year: 16, 18 and 21. To celebrate, my oldest son and his sister are going to jump out of an airplane together, 13,000 feet above the earth with parachutes strapped to their backs.

Mom is going to be standing on the ground below with the 16 year old, heaving into a bucket more than likely.

/these kids today!

Congratulations! I hope you enjoy your time with him, and your son gets all the much-deserved rest that he needs before heading back out there!

Morning, everyone. In the "Let's entertain our friends with stories from life" category:

The hubby was supposed to have surgery yesterday. But Tuesday night at 9:30 found us in the emergency room with my husband absolutely doubled over in extreme pain. After some bloodwork and a CT scan, they discovered he had a kidney stone moving down to his bladder. No wonder he was in pain.

They put surgery off for two weeks to give him time to pass the stone and get off the Motrin he's been put on. We didn't get home until 1:45 am Wednesday morning, and I'm still sleepy today.

Caffeine, please?

Heh. When I had my kidneystones first make themselves known, all I had for knowledge was the sensation of the family jewels in a vice. I had no education regarding kidneystones or reflected pain. Since it was 3 am, my bride suggested that I suck it up and go back to sleep. ;)

Being incapable of sucking that much, I drove myself to the hospital ER and was immediately diagnosed by the triage nurse (later confirmed). They filled me full of IV fluid (longest.pottybreak.ever) and gave me some Vicodin and sent me home.

The later episodes were expected (it was kind of a landslide, one stone and then lots more), so they were easier to deal with. Did I mention we left on family vacation the next day, and that my wife managed to slip and fall, bruising her tailbone?

Yeah, it was some vacation. ;)

Okay, so apparently there must be something in the body that tells the kidneys "We're about to do something big and important, so now would be the absolute worst possible time to let those stones go. Go for it!"

re: #261 pre-Boomer Marine brat

This is the significant archeological issue that study might help explain:

There are different opinions about the emergence of Clovis points. One is that pre-Clovis people in the New World developed the Clovis tradition independently in the Middle Paleolithic. Another opinion is that the first inhabitants in the New World were the Clovis from the Upper Paleolithic who reverted back to flake technology. Both opinions mean that the Clovis point was developed in the New World, but the pre-Clovis opinion requires that a very early entry into the New World was formed, the Clovis opinion does not show this. At this time, no lithic antecedents to Clovis points have been found in northwestern Asia or Alaska. However, the Solutrean hypothesis suggests that Clovis Culture developed from the similar Solutrean of southwestern Europe, and that the technology may have been brought to America through migration along the Atlantic pack ice edge using survival skills similar to that of modern Inuit people.

Clovis points (a particular form of arrow & spear head) are found all over North America during a particular period (but not in Alaska or in East Asia). The study you linked suggests there was no Bering Strait ice bridge between Asia & Alaska just before or during the clovis point period. So either there were people already in North America who figured out how to make clovis points at that time, or migrants from Europe brought the technology with them from Europe across a North Atlantic/Arctic ice shelf. Clovis points have been found in Western Europe dating from that period.

So the evidence is circumstantial, but pretty good, the clovis point technology came from Europe and Europeans brought it.

There are different types of stones. Mine (inherited from my mother's family, like the balding pate) are calcium oxalate. They ar the hardest stone but also tend to be smaller and do not (thank GOD) tend to fill up the kidney with a coral reef of crud. Unfortunately, it is not a matter of to much calcium, just poor body chemistry. I do get to avoid excess oxalic acid, which means limiting beer (alcohol is also a no-no for severe stones), apples, beets, and spinach.

However, it is a cruel fact that the only nerves reporting pain between the kidneys and the bladder in a male of the species report it as testicular pain.

They don't cut you, though. They just stick all the tools up your nevermind and have at it.

Haven't had to do that. Well, I have, but it wasn't just to chase the little rocks...as a bonus to my stones, I learned in my post-ER trip to the urologist that I was a "one in a million" case with stones AND a birth defect called a uretocele (a little pocket in the bladder right under the ureter which collects crud and also makes stones). So I did get to have a nice outpatient surgery for that.

I know Tim Hortons - a friend got me a can of Tims coffee a couple of years ago - man, that stuff is soooooooo friggin' addictive, and much, much better than anything Fourbucks can ever HOPE to put out!

Yeah, Timmies is a major source of Canadian pride... lol.

re: #325 realwest

Good morning {vxbush} - can't they use that ultra sound on him (ya sit in a tub of water and they POUND those kidney stones with sonic waves until they're fine enough to be able to pass 'em)?

I guess they don't do that unless you have trouble passing the stone. The urologist the hubby sees today may suggest that. We'll see.

re: #324 OldLineTexan

Surgery?

Oof.

They don't cut you, though. They just stick all the tools up your nevermind and have at it.

Yeah, I wondered about that. Ouch, ouch, ouch.

Really? Okay, that's interesting, medically speaking.

I just got this e-mail:

July 16, 2008

The Canada-Israel Committee invites you to add your name to a condolence book being prepared for the Regev and Goldwasser families, and ask that you forward this note to your friends.

Please feel free to add your names:

Dear Regev family,

Dear Goldwasser family,

Today, Israel's friends in Canada join with you in mourning the loss of your beloved Ehud z"l and Eldad, z"l. As we stood with you in the two years since their capture, we stand with you now in your time of grief. It is our cherished hope that in this painful time you will gain some small comfort from the knowledge that your families are in the thoughts and prayers of people around the world who share your sadness, even as we reaffirm our hope for an end to the conflict that led to their deaths.

May each of you find comfort amongst the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

Greets and saluts from the NYC metro area. I've posted my latest review of the Hizbullah win over Israel following the Kuntar release, and those who think otherwise are seriously deluding themselves.

Kuntar remains unrepentant, and intends to carry out Mugh the Thug's murderous legacy. Israel's security is not improved, and while I share in the grief with the Goldwasser and Regev families, this deal only means more misery for all Israelis.

Discovery of submerged spikes closes Green Lake

SEATTLE – Green Lake has been closed to swimmers after someone planted dozens of dangerous metal spikes around the shore.

Last weekend, a park visitor made the painful discovery and so far, about 50 of those spikes have turned up.

In one case, a man even cut his foot as he waded in the lake with his family.

Many wonder: Who would bury long, sharp metal spikes so close to the shoreline?

re: #376 realwest

Rent stabilization is alive and well in NYC. There was one change implemented several years ago that enables landlords to shift apartments out of rent stabilization into market rent under certain circumstances - (1) the apartment monthly rent has to exceed $2,000 and the family occupying the apartment has federal adjusted gross income of $175,000 or more or (2) the apartment becomes vacant.

That's how and why you see families try to keep those rent stabilized apartments in the family.

As for any new law spurring development, the only thing I can think of is that new units have been built in increasing numbers because zoning guidelines have changed, freeing up conversion of formerly commercial zoned buildings into residential units.

Texas to World - Take a Hike?

Texas will go ahead with the scheduled Aug. 5 execution of Houston rapist-killer Jose Medellin despite Wednesday's United Nations world court order for a stay, a spokesman for Gov. Rick Perry said.

Also note quote from father of one of the girls killed.

Meanwhile, Randy Ertman, father of Jennifer Ertman, hotly denounced the world court's order for stays.

It's because the way Starbucks maintains consistency around the world is to burn the coffee during roasting. Eliminates all possibility that there's a difference between coffee in NYC and Kuala Lampur.

It also destroys the taste.

That said, Starbucks in Seattle was better than most other Starbucks because of the intense competition there for coffee. Maybe they clean the coffee machines better there than elsewhere.

Why do people hate Starbucks so much? (aside from pricing)

They think "dark roast" means "burned".

I am a whole lot prejudiced here . . . there is a brand of Louisiana coffee that is very very good, very very strong, and they do not burn their dark roast. It's my opinion that anyone who tries this brand would realize just how awful Starbucks is.

My times in Sicily was my favorite - REAL espresso! That stuff will keep you wired for days - and they'd drink it at night, too!

I saw a documentary on coffee a while back. They were interviewing the head of Italy's premier coffee company (can't recall the name), and he indicated that the water is forced through espresso grounds so quickly that it doesn't have the time to extract much of the caffeine. I know it's never kept me awake, and I've had lots of it (with a touch of anisette) after a late meal...

Did you ever try a series of surprisingly GOOD books written by Robert Crais featuring a white Private Eye, Elvis something or other (not Presley nor Costello) and his sidekick Pike - a white Hawk?
Blatant ripoff of the Spenser/Hawk characters but a little different and very, very good!

Elvis Cole and his sidekick, Joe Pike who yes, is a white Hawk.

I love the Crais books, am reading the latest one now.

Starbucks is the equivalent of the "big box" store that charges too much and is all hype and elitism. Your coffee dollars go to corporate as opposed to the independent franchisee (Dunkin Donuts) or the small business barrister. I get a "Good Morning" and a smile when I order my $1.75 cup of Dark Roast and a "Thank you for stopping in" at my local Jo to Go. Much better than the attitude and 4.00 at Starbucks. Just sayin...

The gun control nuts in DC haven't changed. Only the tactics have changed.

And the minority in Heller would probably approve of such an arrangement even though it is farcical to consider gun ownership where a gun can't even be assembled but you can use it for home defense if an intruder comes in.

For those that haven't followed this. The two 14 year old girls cut through a park one night in a Houston suburb to get from one girls house to another. A gang was hanging out drinking beer when the girls happened into them. These sub-humans raped and killed them. In Harris County Texas it would have made no difference if the Mexican government had been called. In fact the Pope himself could have testified in their behalf and the jury would have still given them the needle. One of the girls father at the sentencing phase had to be restrained by several cops. He gave one of the most impassioned speaches ever heard in a court of law. This guy deserves to die, there is no other way.

Plus, the prison definition of "child" does NOT match the legal one.

Agreed. Some people think it is just a big joke, not the moniker a
person has to carry through life (unless willing to change it)...

See Vin Diesel, naming his daughter "Reignbeaux." Why not just name her "Rehab" & get it over with (not my line, but a good one NTL).

I've heard that pedophiles are treated the worst. But rape in prison is usually not about sex, it's about power and dominance - no matter how tough you may actually be, if there's enough of them coming after you.............

Rape is never about sex.

Good morning to you! IIRC, Gotti got into one fight with a big Black prisoner who was also in for life, but was 30 years younger than Gotti and in a lot better shape.
Most Mob leaders are "forgotten" (see the book "Goodfella's" for samples) but Gotti had kin who were still very powerful mobsters and I think he'd of had plenty of protection, but was too hot headed with this one particular inmate.

What major battle happened in the far north in late 65 or early 66? My carrier was sent down from off NVN to provide intensive close air support. We we there for a week or two. Translation (as if no one gets it, but hey, it must be said): do not criticize Obama. It could kill his chances to get elected.

The only reason dems do not like the New Yorker cartoon is that any satire of the Obamessiah may actually take away a vote or two.

do you remember when gotti was running around town in his $1200 cashmere overcoat and his suave haircut. he seemed so invincible. he got acquitted several times when he obviously should have been put away. he bought off one jury.
i think when he went prison he deteriorated really fast. and became a broken down old man in solitary. i remember reading something abt. his protection ran out because the money wasn't being paid. if that happened what a rude awakening for him.

US troops poised to cross Afghan border for raid on bases
Zahid Hussain in Islamabad

US troops in Afghanistan massed close to the border yesterday for a possible attack on al-Qaeda and Taleban bases in the lawless North Waziristan tribal belt in Pakistan.

Reports from the area said that hundreds of Nato troops were airlifted across the mountains from the village of Lowara Mandi, which has been an important base for cross-border attacks in Afghanistan. Heavy artillery and armoured vehicles were also being moved into position.

They must have gotten Obama's new orders to his Joint Chiefs of Staff.

It was the first fully airmobile (choppers) division in the US Army and was gonna be called the 7th US Cavalry, but since the real 7th had lost it's colors in NORK (been over run and literally had battalion flags taken by Chineses, North Koreans) the 7th lived on intrue ignomy in the Army until Vietnam.

So yes, we'd send troops in to take a (usually) fortified enemy position, kill more of them than they killed of us, declared victory and went someplace else, only to have to return and do it all over again.

re: #614 opnion We didn't go into North Vietnam (well, not officially and not with many men) because of the Korean Syndrome.
In Korea, the UN troops were finally kicking North Korean Ass - but McArthur - genius that he wasn't - decided to push it up to the Yalu River border with Red China, whereupon Red China sent some 750,000 well armed and equipped troops into Korea and we ended up with a stalemate at the DMZ.
In Vietnam, according to several books - including McNamara's first book, we didn't go all the way into North Vietnam for fear the Chinese would intervene on the side of the North Vietnamese as they did with the North Koreans.
Only problems being that the Vietnamese have been fighting the Chinese for literally over 1000 years and it's always been considered extremely unlikely that the North Vietnamese would have welcomed any aid or assistance from Red China.
(you may remember that the old Soviet Union was North Vietnam and the V.C.'s primary supplier of materials and advisors, even though Red China was literally next door).

re: #618 realwest

Interesting history. The US could have won if the politicians didn't give up and if they had the integrity to fight the war intelligently from the beginning. You can't win a war with half-measures. We very nearly repeated that failure in Iraq. If Obama has his way, he will help make sure it happens.

The Chinese & Koreans have fought many wars over the centuries too. The Chinese would have entered Viet Nam if they felt their interests were directly threatened.

622 Kenneth  Thu, Jul 17, 2008 9:21:46am

Oh dear...

I'm currently debating the Khadr family issue on a Canadian news website. Some moonbat just posted this:

Certain people here need to get off their high horse and realize that this is NOT a clear cut good vs evil, right vs wrong, issue. We are not living in Disney cartoon land. Perhaps that's the only way your simple minds can understand the situation, but please realize this is a limitation of your own brain, and that other people are capable of higher thinking.

The US and Canada are complicit in some seriously outrageous foreign policy - we have done a lot of wrong, as have the "terrorists". I manage to have some understanding, some sympathy for these people, because I realize our record isn't clean. They are upset at us for many of the things I am upset at my country for. The least we can do is treat these people humanely, and I think that can be done while serving justice.

Must be an Obama fan.

623 realwest  Thu, Jul 17, 2008 9:56:18am

re: #621 Kenneth Yes, but the NORKS haven't had that long a history of emnity (to say the least) that the Vietnamese do against China - I think the Vietnamese might have actually fought the Chinese if they had entered the war.
Note - no link, but you could look it up: the Vietnamese and Chinese have had literally HUNDREDS of border "skirmishes" since the North conquered the South.
