Obama's Furious Whine

Thu, Jul 17, 2008 at 1:23:11 pm PDT

Barack Obama’s wife Michelle has been campaigning with him, giving speeches (and making gaffes) and basically acting like what she is—very much an equal partner in the decision-making process. But Barack continues to whine about criticism directed at his wife, as if she should be off limits no matter what she says or does.

Obama’s latest vintage whine is reviewed by Allahpundit: Obama “infuriated” at conservatives for criticizing his wife.

off topic, a world history lesson:

For those of you who slept through World History 101 here
is a condensed version:

Humans originally existed as members of small bands of
nomadic hunters/gatherers. They lived on deer in the
mountains during the summer and would go to the coast and
live on fish and lobster in the winter. The two most
important events in all of history were:

1. The invention of beer, and
2. The invention of the wheel.

The wheel was invented to get man to the beer, and the beer
to the man.

These facts formed the foundation of modern civilization
and together were the catalyst for the splitting of
humanity into two distinct subgroups:

1. Liberals
2. Conservatives

Once beer was discovered, it required grain and that was
the beginning of agriculture. Neither the glass bottle nor
aluminum can were invented yet, so while our early humans
were sitting around waiting for them to be invented, they
just stayed close to the brewery. That's how villages
were formed.

Some men spent their days tracking and killing animals to
BBQ at night while they were drinking beer. This was the
beginning of what is known as the Conservative movement.

Other men who were weaker and less skilled at hunting
learned to live off the conservatives by showing up for the
nightly BBQ's and doing the sewing, fetching, and hair
dressing. This was the beginning of the Liberal movement.
Some of these liberal men eventually evolved into women.
The rest became known as girlie-men. Some noteworthy
liberal achievements include the domestication of cats, the
invention of group therapy and group hugs, the evolution of
the Hollywood actor, and the concept of Democratic voting
to decide how to divide all the meat and beer that
conservatives provided.

Over the years, Conservatives came to be symbolized by the
largest, most powerful land animal on earth, the elephant.
Liberals are symbolized by the jackass.

Modern liberals like imported beer (with lime added), but
most prefer white wine or imported bottled water. They eat
raw fish but like their beef well done. Sushi, tofu, and
French food are standard liberal fare. Another
interesting evolutionary side note: most liberal women
have higher testosterone levels than their men. Most
social workers, personal injury attorneys, journalists,
dreamers in Hollywood and group therapists are liberals.

Conservatives drink domestic beer. They eat red meat and
still provide for their women. Conservatives are big-game
hunters, rodeo cowboys, firemen, lumberjacks, construction
workers, medical doctors, police officers, corporate
executives, athletes, Marines, and generally anyone who
works productively. Conservatives who own companies hire
other conservatives who want to work for a living.

Liberals produce little or nothing. They like to govern
the producers and decide what to do with the production.
Liberals believe Europeans are more enlightened than
Americans. That is why most of the liberals remained in
Europe when conservatives were coming to America. They
crept in after the Wild West was tamed and created a
business of trying to get more for nothing.

Here ends today's lesson in world history.

It must be very difficult to have to see your wife being badgered; I can understand this. But the fact is (as everyone is pointing out) if the insults are about her statements or her opinions (as opposed to personal attacks) and she is freely putting them out there...well.....such is life.

38 shane  Thu, Jul 17, 2008 1:31:43pm

Get elected to Senate, get wife really good paying job she isn't qualified for. Check.

Have wife give political speechs on campaign events; blast anyone who criticizes her for political speech. Check

39 lawhawk  Thu, Jul 17, 2008 1:31:54pm

Might I offer up the following advice to the Obamas:

Suck up and deal.

You're auditioning/interviewing for the job of President. You and your wife decided to run for the Office of the President of the United States of America. By sending her out there to campaign on your behalf, she's fair game.

How you act now tells us what you might do as President.

And right now, you're failing to impress. Indeed, you're showing that you're not ready for prime time. Heck, how did you manage to get to this point anyways, given the complete and utter lack of experience and no paper trail to speak of? I guess that is to your credit to charm the bejeebus out of the right people on the Left. But the left alone can't win you the election, which brings me back to my initial point.

NY Sun has a terrific piece on Obama's shifting positions on Jerusalem:

Obama's Redivided Jerusalem

Senator Obama, in his speech to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, said, "Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel, and it must remain undivided." The next day, an unnamed adviser tried to "clarify" the statement to suggest it left room for Palestinian sovereignty.

On Sunday in a CNN interview, Fareed Zakaria questioned Mr. Obama about his AIPAC speech supporting Jerusalem as the undivided capital of Israel. Mr. Zakaria asked him, "why not support the Clinton plan, which envisions a divided Jerusalem."

Mr. Obama responded, "the truth is that this was an example where we had some poor phrasing in the speech" and a reminder of the need to be "careful in terms of our syntax." He said his point had been "simply" that "we don't want barbed wire running through Jerusalem, similar to the way it was prior to the '67 war. ... I think the Clinton formulation provides a starting point for discussions between the parties."

Mr. Obama's new endorsement of the Clinton plan as the "starting point" for negotiations involves much more than a problem in phrasing. He has converted his commitment at AIPAC to an "undivided" Jerusalem into support for the city's redivision.

There are at least three reasons why one can conclude that Mr. Obama's turn-around on his position on an "undivided" Jerusalem did not result from "poor phrasing" or careless "syntax" or confusion about a "code word...."

Obama releases list of approved jokes about himself

By Andy Borowitz

Bid to help late night comics

[Link: www.JewishWorldReview.com...] |

Saying he is "sympathetic to late night comedians' struggle to find jokes to make about me," Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill) today issued a list of official campaign-approved Barack Obama jokes.

The five jokes, which Sen. Obama said he is making available to all comedians free of charge, are as follows:

Barack Obama and a kangaroo pull up to a gas station. The gas station attendant takes one look at the kangaroo and says, "You know, we don't get many kangaroos here." Barack Obama replies, "At these prices, I'm not surprised. That's why we need to reduce our dependence on foreign oil."

A traveling salesman knocks on the door of a farmhouse, and much to his surprise, Barack Obama answers the door. The salesman says, "I was expecting the farmer's daughter." Barack Obama replies, "She's not here. The farm was foreclosed on because of subprime loans that are making a mockery of the American Dream."

A horse walks into a bar. The bartender says, "Why the long face?" Barack Obama replies, "His jockey just lost his health insurance, which should be the right of all Americans."

Q: What's black and white and red all over? Barack Obama: The New Yorker magazine, which should be embarrassed after publishing such a tasteless and offensive cover, which I reject and denounce.

A Christian, a Jew and Barack Obama are in a rowboat in the middle of the ocean. Barack Obama says, "This joke isn't going to work because there's no Muslim in this boat."

But have the fools at AIPAC stopped clapping yet for what was an obvious lie- and an insult to their intelligence- even when it was first uttered.

AIPAC long ago became like Mulder on the X-Files: They Want to Believe.

However, some encouraging poll numbers from American Jews on their lack of enthusiasm for Obama:

[Link: www.jta.org...]

American Jews are less supportive of Barack Obama than previous Democratic nominees, a new poll found.

The lack of support comes despite overwhelming unhappiness with the Bush administration.

The survey, commissioned by the Washington-based advocacy organization J Street, found that only 58 percent of American Jews said they would definitely vote for Obama, an Illinois senator. Another 4 percent said they were leaning toward the presumptive Democratic nominee.

In contrast, Al Gore and Bill Clinton both drew approximately 80 percent of the Jewish vote in their respective runs for the presidency, while John Kerry garnered about 76 percent in 2004.

Twenty-nine percent of respondents said they would vote for U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), with 3 percent saying they were leaning toward the presumptive GOP nominee. That would represent a higher showing among Jews than the 24 percent President Bush drew in 2004.

The poll, conducted by Gerstein/Agne Strategic Communications and based on interviews with 800 respondents, has a margin of error of 3.5 percent....

164 Darwin Akbar  Thu, Jul 17, 2008 1:55:12pm

Victor Davis Hanson puts it best, as usual (from the Corner):
[Link: corner.nationalreview.com...]

"It's infuriating, but it's not surprising, because let's face it: What happened was that the conservative press—Fox News and the National Review and columnists of every ilk—went fairly deliberately at her in a pretty systematic way...and treated her as the candidate in a way that you just rarely see the Democrats try to do against Republicans."

But this is disingenuous. First, Ms. Obama is the recipient of almost continuously positive attention and press coverage in the network news. In CNN's comparative profiles of the candidates, it dwelt on her accomplishments, while focusing on Ms. McCain's problems with prescription drugs, her privileged status, the circumstances of her meeting John McCain, etc.

Second, Ms. Obama, not on the prompt of the National Review, chose to play a highly partisan role, and, furthermore, publicly to indict American culture and life on the basis of her newfound prominence and exposure as a wife of a candidate, all in a way none of the other spouses of candidates in either party did with the exception of Bill Clinton — who not surprisingly was equally cross-examined.

Most observers, after all, will take offense when told by a potential First Lady that their country heretofore is not the sort of place to inspire pride, or is downright mean, or its people usually "uninvolved and uninformed". Most of us either did not know of Michelle Obama, or, to the extent we did, had a favorable opinion of her as a successful wife, mother, and highly educated and experienced career professional—until in a series of "raise the bar" sermons, she let loose a barrage of indictments against American culture.

Once again the pattern proves the same: the Obamas spontaneously offer biting fundamental critiques on the unsoundness of American life and culture, from the important to the silly—whether our national temperament, or our supposed inability to speak a foreign language, or our diet, etc—and then the Senator recoils in anguish and hurt when any of the targets suggests that they are both wrong in their indictments and not especially the sort who can make the case America has been mean or unfair to its citizens.

It is the duty of all journalists to call Obama on his double-standard on every occasion he draws upon it, since we are seeing a dangerous messianic quality in which anything short of the accustomed adoration becomes "infuriating" and a sort of exemption from cross-examination on an always expanding array of topics is demanded.

It depends on the context. If you're talking about the International Jar-Opening & Spider-Killing Olympics, then yes, it'd be something of an insult to call a man a "woman." But in other contexts, the label would be giving men far too much credit.

All this talk 'bout sweet Michelle reminded me of this old joke.

/stop me if you've heard it......

The train was quite crowded, so the U. S. Marine walked the
Entire length looking for a seat, but the only seat left was
Taken by a well-dressed, middle-aged, French woman's poodle.
The war-weary Marine asked,
'Ma'am, may I have that seat?'
The French woman just sniffed and said to no one in
Particular,
'Americans are so rude. My little Fifi is using that seat.'
The Marine walked the entire train again, but the only seat
Left was under that dog.
'Please, ma'am. May I sit down? I'm very tired.'
She snorted, 'Not only are you Americans rude, you are also
Arrogant!'
This time the Marine didn't say a word, he just picked up the
Little dog, tossed it out the train window, and sat down. The
Woman shrieked,
'Someone must defend my honor! Put this American in his
Place!'
An English gentleman sitting nearby spoke up,
'Sir, you Americans often seem to have a penchant for doing
The wrong thing. You hold the fork in the wrong hand. You drive
Your autos on the wrong side of the road.
And now, sir, you've thrown the wrong bitch out the window.'

Does anyone know, what months Obama traveled to Pakistan in 1981?

The campaign is on record saying it was in the interim of him changing schools that year.

Look in the "Obama the Cypher" thread. Several mentions of that trip in that thread, including some time frames, and this interesting note by U-Turn:

Sonia commented at the ABC article:

"It all sounds very innocent, "a college trip to Pakistan".

Pakistan was in turmoil in 1981 and ruled of martial law. Millions of Afghan refugees were living in Pakistan, while the Afghan Mujahedeen operated from bases inside Pakistan in their war with the Soviets. One of the leaders that based his operation in Quetta, Pakistan was Usama Bin Laden (The Sheik).

Pakistan was on the banned travel list for US Citizens at the time and all non-Muslim visitors were not welcome unless sponsored by their embassy for official business.

The would be only a few reasons a young Westerner of the Muslim faith would travel to Pakistan in 1981:

To Participate in Jihad, which is the duty of every "True Believer".

For religious education in a Wahabbi sect, Saudi funded, Madrassa.

In order to purchase drugs from the drug marketplace.

Pakistan was not a tourist stop nor the place to hang out with someone's family in 1981."

All this is probably true, which makes me even more skeptical with the notion he was just touring around with college buddies scoring some killer hash. There is really more to this story, hopefully more will come out.

ROFL

The old francestinks.com had a joke which I'll try to paraphrase swiftly.

A carriage in a small French back-country train (no lights).
A Frenchman, an Englishman, and Claudia Schiffer.
The train enters a tunnel. The carriage goes pitch-black.
In the darkness ... SLAP!

The train comes out of the tunnel. The Frenchman is sprawled on his side of the compartment, clutching the side of his face.

The Frenchman's thinking: "The stupid Englishman kissed Claudia Schiffer, she swung to slap him and hit me by mistake."

Schiffer is thinking: "The randy Frenchman tried to kiss me, but kissed the Englishman by mistake and got decked."

The Englishman is thinking: "This is such fun, I'm going to do it again in the NEXT tunnel."

Obama is amazingly good at being an opportunist. I think he sees a situation and automatically asks himself "How can I make this work for me." I suspect his campaign people consider her a liability at this point. She comes across as combative and incapable of 'editing' what comes out of her mouth. Obama is the same way, but until that halo comes crashing down, he's still the media darling.

I think most candidates wives should be left alone. Most speak about how wonderful their individual spouses are, and sometimes a cause that they want to push, like getting everyone to read or helping kids in poverty.

However, Hillary broke with this routine when it was said we were getting 2 for 1. She started not only speaking policy, but creating it. Then she came under scrutiny as any adviser to the President would be when they become proponents of policy.

Michelle, my Belle, has done that as well. Were she standing by him, or just supporting his candidacy, it would be off limits to my way of thinking. When she is offering her opinion on the nature of the electorate or directing policy statements she has crossed the line of just wife of the candidate and is now a policy proponent and adviser. She becomes fair game.

And she is guilty of putting her mouth in gear before engaging her brain. She needs to be more careful on what she says, who she is representing. I often get the idea she represents herself and she isn't running for anything so I don't have to listen to her rants.

This is going to leave a mark on Pelosi et al

The US federal government on Wednesday said it would open 3.9m acres of land in a designated petroleum reserve in Alaska for drilling as a means to help curb rising petrol prices.

This ought to have Pelosi breathing fire.

And the NYT ..

The Interior Department on Wednesday made 2.6 million acres of potentially oil-rich territory in northern Alaska available for energy exploration. At the same time, it deferred for a decade any decision to open 600,000 acres of land north of Teshekpuk Lake that is the summer home of thousands of migrating caribou and millions of waterfowl.

... expected the first oil production to begin in the easternmost part of the reserve, west of the Colville River, from 2010 to 2012. A fully developed oil complex exists on state lands on the eastern banks of the river.

So much for Obama's 7 year claim .. now it's 2 to 4 years.

I have heard many oil speculators on FNC state that if the US showed an effort to drill in it's own reserves, the price of oil would drop like a rock. If the US began exploiting it's own reserves, not only would we keep the money here, we would create jobs and prop up the value of the dollar while increasing the global supply.

I see this as a win-win for the American economy like most Americans. The Dumbocrat party refuses to get on-board with this policy since they refuse to hear the cries of the public. One would think that with those ears, they hear the will of their constituents but it dosen't conform with their agenda to undermine the economy and elect another deaf Dumbocrat to the White House.

My advice, vote them all out come November!

I'm a little bit older than the average lgfer, I assume. So let me give you the benefit of my knowledge and experience based on prior history. Some people with a lot more money than I have are in the process of intentionally betting their money on a Barack Obama Presidency. Just as it's not too hard to predict what would happen if you put a 12 year old behind the wheel of a 400 horsepower vehicle, it's not too hard to predict the economic nightmare a novice in the White House would cause. Hence, you have seen a run-up in gold and petroleum futures for the past six months as the extremely thin possibility of an Obama Presidency ventured into the realm of a possibility. BHO is a novice and a wimp, and the world has been betting its money on the outcome of a BHO Presidency. When Bush and McCain talk in un-wimply (neologism?) terms about drilling and finding our own oil, those rat bastids that think we are going to put a wimp into the White House realize just how far they have placed their necks on the line and will stop trying to manipulate the markets. Recent polls are also working against them, too. I hope they all lose their shirts and oil drops to 60 dollars a barrel by December.

I suspect another reason for the price drop is that the US is making nice to Iran. In a couple of days the mullahs will test more faux missiles and oil will be back over $140 a barrel.
Anyone been up on the Darwin thread? How nasty is it?

293 yesandno  Thu, Jul 17, 2008 6:53:25pm

All this is a diversion from the fact that MR. OBAMA has nothing to say, nothing to offer, is an empty suit. While we focus on this side issue, OBAMA gets closer to the White House.

Loved the quote in the other thread about his schedule. Now that he has a presidential schedule, others keep up with it. The audacity to assume he has a "PRESIDENTIAL" schedule...he hasn't even been nominated yet.

And now he is off to other parts of the world and and no doubt planning on telling them what we will do when he doesn't even have the right at this point in time. He should go over, evaluate, and keep his mouth shut till he gets back and then formulate a policy about what he sees is the action necessary. Good chance of that.

The Audacity of Audacity is his slogan, believe me. He is not off limits. I don't have time for Michelle's attitudes because I am so appalled at his. How the American electorate ever let him get this far is beyond reason. I'm not crazy about McCain and the process that selected him either. But at least he is an adult.

Besides, if we kick Obama to the curb, Michelle won't be that far behind.

What do we really know about this woman anyway?

She's a true American success story. She went to one of the best universities, she makes more than $300,000 a year, she lives in a multi-million dollar home. She's a lovely woman, with two beautiful, healthy children. She's married to a Senator, a man who will likely be the next President of the United States.

In the lottery of life, she's a jackpot winner. She's better off, in terms of rights, opportunities, gifts, and advantages than 6 billion people in this world.

And she's got a chip on her shoulder the size of the Rock of Gibraltar. For that she has my utter contempt. I've never seen a glimmer of humility and gratitude in her. She gladly spits on the country that's responsible for her unprecedented success.

No. Democrats tend to be unforgiving to their losers. Look at Gore, Lieberman, and Kerry.

We'll see about the Hildabeast. If Obama loses, she'll be able to point and laugh.

One incident in particular I recall from 2006, when the Dems took over Congress. The new "leaders" were setting up for a staged photo, showing them striding confidently down the hall.

In the background of the photo, J F'n K is clearly moping. He'd reportedly tried to insert himself into the group and was told to go pound sand.

From the article:

"You're getting $600 - what can you do with that? Not to be ungrateful or anything, but maybe it pays down a bill, but it doesn't pay down every bill every month," she said. "The short-term quick fix kinda stuff sounds good, and it may even feel good that first month when you get that check, and then you go out and you buy a pair of earrings."

I used mine to round out a $1000 beginning cash emergency fund, because I don't expect to "get" things from the government, nor do I expect the government to pay down my bills every month. Guess that's what happens when you're not a Socialist. :)
