So, we're sitting in the garage watching the new truck and car get rained on,Sipping some beer w/ the neighbor and some friends......
Our puppy(4 mo..),a Boxer makes a completly rude and un P.C. coment about the smell of the neighbors pant leg!
Everyone was agape at his verbal outburst!
I looked at my wife and instantly knew she hadn't blocked ALL the web sites that carried Ann Coulters column.
They're such little sponges at that age!
I took him to his room to have a little talk ...tried to have a
talk....All he did was snigger at me while chewing on the wifes slipper!
I un plugged his P.C. and tookthe power cord!
That'll fix him...enjoy your slipper , BRAT!

Krauthammer slams BHO....

The Audacity of Vanity

What Obama does not seem to understand is that the Brandenburg Gate is something you earn. President Ronald Reagan earned the right to speak there because his relentless pressure had brought the Soviet empire to its knees and he was demanding its final "tear down this wall" liquidation. When President John F. Kennedy visited the Brandenburg Gate on the day of his "Ich bin ein Berliner" speech, he was representing a country that was prepared to go to the brink of nuclear war to defend West Berlin.

[snip]

Obama is a three-year senator without a single important legislative achievement to his name, a former Illinois state senator who voted "present" nearly 130 times. As president of the Harvard Law Review, as law professor and as legislator, has he ever produced a single notable piece of scholarship? Written a single memorable article? His most memorable work is a biography of his favorite subject: himself.

It is a subject upon which he can dilate effortlessly. In his victory speech upon winning the nomination, Obama declared it a great turning point in history -- "generations from now we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment" -- when, among other wonders, "the rise of the oceans began to slow." As Hudson Institute economist Irwin Stelzer noted in his London Daily Telegraph column, "Moses made the waters recede, but he had help." Obama apparently works alone.

I hope this little tidbit will be as humorous to all lizards as it was to me.
Was cleaning out bottom desk drawer today and I found a part of The Southern Illinoisan from Sunday, November 28, 1999. I have looked over this several times and for the life of me I do not know why I kept this, but here is the part I think is quite funny....One article is "Buchanan is trying to disguise his message of hate...Pat Buchanan is up to no good. The article mentions Lenora Fulani, Fred Newman and the New Alliance party. Another article is blasting the Los Angeles Times and the View(letter to paper) .....I know Charles will love this one "Are Christians optimistic?...A recent poll reported that 80 percent of Americans are hopeful about life in the next millennium. That hope is said to be based on their FAITH IN SCIENCE and technology, modern medicine and higher education."
All of these are things we are still discussing in 2008 ! Funny?
Guess somethings never do change.

Yochanan - just for you - hope you get a laugh;

You know you're from Louisiana when...

-Your sunglasses fog up when you step outside, even in December.

-You reinforce your attic to store Mardi Gras beads

-You don't look twice when you see pink flamingos in yards of nice subdivisions during Mardi Gras.

-You save newspapers, not for recycling but for tablecloths at crawfish boils.

-Your ancestors are buried above the ground .

-You drink Community Coffee, have tried Starbucks, but don't see what all the fuss is about. (YEAH!)

-You take a bite of five-alarm chili and reach for the Tabasco.

-You sit down to eat boiled crawfish and your host says, "Don't eat the dead ones," and you know what he means.
-You don't learn until high school that Mardi Gras is not a national holiday.

-You push little old ladies out of the way to catch Mardi Gras beads.

-Little old ladies push YOU out of the way to catch Mardi Gras beads .

-Your last name isn't pronounced the way it's spelled.

-You know what a nutria is but you still pick it to represent your baseball team.

-You know that Tchoupitoulas is a street and not a disease.

-You cringe every time you hear an actor with a Southern or Cajun accent in a "New Orleans-based" movie or TV show.

-You have to reset your clocks after every thunderstorm.

-You're walking in the French Quarter with a plastic cup of beer.

-When it starts to rain, you cover your beer instead of your head.

-You've eaten at one or more of these restaurants, AND know how to pronounce them: Prejeans, Tu Jac 's, Gallatoire's, Ralph & Kacoo's, Brunet's, or Mulatte's.

I'm sure everyone here has seen or heard about Nancy Pelosi calling President Bush a failure. Well, I think it is absolutely disgusting of her. Honestly I would say that the current session of Congress in which she presides has been a miserable failure. We have sky high gas prices pretty much since she took over as speaker. The new minimum wage law that the dems wanted added about 0.5% to unemployment. The Congress won't make the Bush tax cuts permanent in spite of the economic challenges we have. Perhaps she needs to take a look in the mirror for single digit congressional approval ratings.

President Bush has far too much respect for his office and is too much of a gentleman to respond back. But I think that it says so much about Nancy Pelosi that she would attack him in such a way. But what gets me is that the GOP will still lose to these idiots.

This is the politics in 2008 - Speak in platitudes and Demonize opponents.....take that back....it's politics from the beginning of time.

The problem, however, is that when you are constantly playing politics (a la Harry and Nancy), you lose the abiulity to govern. This is the case with the 2008 congress.

Photographer Detained After Filming Taliban Execution of Two Women in Afghanistan

Rahmatullah Naikzad is dancing the FOX trot...I know nothing.

Naikzad said he was detained for two days after his video appeared on the Internet, but that he was released on his own recognizance for three days because of the death of a relative. He said he was treated well in custody, and that he is cooperating with the National Directorate of Security, the agency that interrogated him.

“Around 60 pages of investigative material were produced from my interrogation,” he said.

“I am willingly going back into custody once the bail period ends,” he said, adding, “I have nothing to fear.”

Some bloggers who have seen the video of the executions have expressed concerns that Naikzad may be connected with the Taliban, and that the Associated Press was used as a propaganda tool.

But Naikzad denied any ties with the terrorists and said he has given equal coverage to the different sides in conflict in the province.

“If I have photographed Taliban casualties, I have also photographed American casualties. I have been balanced in my journalism,” he said.

Paul Colford, director of media relations for the Associated Press, said in response to an inquiry: "The Associated Press has been following this case closely with some concern."

Could that be LGF? (the first bold)

and *ugh* to the second bolded part.

They're so busy running against Bush that they don't create a policy of their own.
No wonder Bush has a higher approval rating than Congress.

Although to look at the bright side, if they had any ideas, they'd be wrong, so maybe it is better they do nothing than make things worse.

I don't remember if we uncovered any sort of history of his photos back when Charles posted the original post, but I would not be surprised if his explanation is true.

The Taliban and other Terrorists love media coverage, and tend to go out of their way to ensure journalists (that they like) are safe.
I read a JPost interview with an Israeli journalist who interviews terrorists. I can't find the link now, but it was enlightening.

The jounalists/media should not play into their love of coverage. They have covered enough to let everyone know what savages they are.
And in the article he said he thought their hands were going to be cut off, as if this was no big deal. Enough is enough we know what they are and Do not need anymore pictures/film to prove it to us. It will not stop them, so DO NOT GIVE THEM WHAT THEY WANT !

Ron Paul's stance on the war would never fly in the Rebublican nominating process. What he has to say about economics and personal freedom/responsibility is Perot-like sense. Some of it is weird - like returning to to the gold standard - but at least its consistent. Obama's message is just whacked. Ron Paul makes much more sense than Obama.

re: #61 jorline

Curious. He claims that the Taliban sent feelers to media outlets, and the AP answered the bell. The AP let him go to this. He expected this to be a garden variety hand chopping, not an execution.

He claims to have intervened. That's possible, I guess.

But his claims that the AP wasn't being used as a propaganda tool fall flat on its face.

The Taliban purposefully contacted media outlets and deceived them to get reporters/video/photographers to come to the scene. And the AP sent him out there.

And they, after knowing all of this, still released the photos, but not the back story on how they came to be in the location in the first place.

The AP still has much accounting for in this sad and grim incident.

The supporters do seem similar in that their devotion to their candidate borders (borders?) on the fanatical religious.

But Obama-ians haven't had quite the reputation for poll-stacking that the paulinians did. I've no doubt they spammed a poll or two, but it was so weird with the paulians. Their probe droids all over the 'net would alert the masses to a poll anywhere, and they spam it. I'm not sure what the goal was.

Also, and I cannot prove it at all, but I was following a link that claimed Ron Paul had the majority of US troop support. Seemed wrong since he was the anti-Iraq war candidate. I checked the records, and under "employer", the numbers for US Army, US Navy, etc. for Ron Paul seems suspiciously waaaaay out of line with the other occupations, and comparing to the breakdown across the same occupations for other ROP candidates. Given their history of faking poll results, I wonder if they passed the word to lie on the form to fake the military donation percentage to RP. They would have considered it as lying for the greater cause because they just knew that all the troops wanted to come home. Fake but accurate.

Like the white moonbats proudly admitting that they lied on their 2000 census and said they were minorities, because by inflating minority numbers, they were helping them to get more needed funding. They really thought they were doing a good and noble deed.

The difference was huge. Where Fred Thompson had about 2000 US Army donations and about 2000 "business owners", Ron Paul had about 1000 business owners and 14,000 in the Army. Similiar for the Navy. It was just all out of proportion.

I know they are idiots, but what did Congress have to do with mortgage lending practices? And I've seen a lot of repos in my area, I bought one of them, and there were no minorities not making their payments, getting the utilities shut off, and then stripping the fixtures out of the house when the bank (Countrywide) finally kicked em out.

I'm still in the optimistic camp that says McCain will be the next POTUS. Obama will be this generation's Mcgovern. The vaunted 'youth' vote never shows up on election day. The african-american voting demographic isn't as monolithic as it appears. The crew that thinks Jesse jackson and al sharpton are good leaders don't like hearing about personal responsibility from Obama. There are a lot of pi$%ed-off hillery supporters out there who will either sit on their hands election day or even jump sides and vote for 'maverick' (what was mccain's call sign anyway?, i'm curious). The chance is slight, but I still think Hillery has a trick up her pantsuit sleeve in Denver. The convention will show the country that the dems aren't fit to lead. Plus the Dem position on energy will kill them. I hope nancy and harry enjoyed their 2 years in leadership roles, 'cause this will be it.

141 kansas  Fri, Jul 18, 2008 12:56:43pm

Part of the econmic situation we have now is the result of borrowing against home equity, and the change in bankruptcy laws. People used to be able to declare chapter 7 and start over. Kind of like spreading out the losses. Not right, but buy all that stuff, call oopsie, and get a do over. Now they gotta pay. So, no more bankruptcy, no more home equity, and wah lah, less consumer spending. You can always see this shit coming whenever Congress passes a law.

They lowered standards to qualify which opened the gates. I agree with you that mant new homeowners just went overboard with the life-style, using home equity loans to buy new cars, furnishings, etc.

I just don't get this rush on bail outs.

Government meddling is no "help". The longer Congress draws this out, the longer it will take for the housing market and the banks to recover, which is bad news for everyone.

Although it may help the Dems in November, which is really all that matters to them.

FWIW, the only good reason to take out a home equity loan is for home improvements and repairs. Or, perhaps, the down payment on another property (or some other income-producing investment).

re: #144 kansas

The CRA was born out of the civil rights movement. And maybe it was right at the time. There may have been some institutional discrimination on the basis of race alone. And, in the 90s there was a lot of complaining that only certain segments of the population were participating in the economic expansion. So I think there was more pressure for the banks to go assist less affluent areas. So much so that from what I understand a bank's performance by regulators was measured in part on its lending practices to minorities.

I think the act is less needed now since minorities are getting wealthier. Banks will make loans to people who qualify no matter what race they are. But they may not want to make loans to areas that are perceived as risky.

Yes, for at least the next 5.5 years, McCain was "grounded".

So he missed the summers of love from 1967, 1968-is-great, etc., up to 1973.

Interestingly, McCain's Naval Academy class motto is "58 is Great!" --only that generation wasn't narcissists like the 1968ers.

Nadim Injaz, a 30-year-old Palestinian, was arrested by the Tel Aviv Police on Thursday evening on suspicion of threatening to hurt Jews. Injaz, who formerly aided the Israeli security forces, was brought before the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court on Friday for a remand hearing.

Injaz is suspected of contacting a few parties and telling them that he was going to hurt Jews if he didn’t receive his State identification card.

FWIW, the only good reason to take out a home equity loan is for home improvements and repairs. Or, perhaps, the down payment on another property (or some other income-producing investment).

We always go through this tight credit/easy credit cycle. I remember in 1986 I couldn't borrow 25G for a business loan. Then I got credit cards and got a business. Course the bastards wanted me to pay them back. That really puts a crimp in spending, so the economy suffers. I also remember when the Farmers were told their land and farms were worth a bunch, and then they borrowed against it for silly stuff like equipment and planting. Then the banks decided their farms weren't really worth all that and called in the loans, Farm Crisis.

Or when the Congress decided to change the depreciation schedule on property from 4 to 30 years. Overnight a property worth 2 million was reassed at 1.5 and people who had been paying on time found their notes called in, or at least the difference between the note and new value of the property. That was the S & L crisis.

Now we got this crisis. I think it started with the bankruptcy reform act where you actually have to pay back the money you borrow. What a bitch.

You know what I'm gonna do?
I'm gonna get myself a 1967 Cadilac El Dorado Convertable
Hot pink!
With whale skin hub caps
An all leather cow interior
And big brown baby seal eyes for headlights
YEAH!
And I'm gonna drive around in that baby
At 115 miles per hour
Getting one mile per gallon
Sucking down Quarter Pounder cheeseburgers from McDonalds in the old-fashioned non-biodegradable Styrofoam containers
And when I'm done sucking down those grease-ball burgers
I'm gonna wipe my mouth with the American flag
And then I'm gonna toss the Styrofoam containers right out the side
And there ain't a Goddamn thing anybody can do about it
You know why?
'Cause we got the bombs, that's why!
Two words: Nuclear F**kin' Weapons
Okay!?
Russia, Germany, Romania
They can have all the Democracy they want
They can have a big Democracy cake walk
Right through the middle of Tienemen Square
And it won't make a lick of difference
Because we got the bombs
Okay!?
John Wayne's not dead
He's frozen!
And as soon as we find a cure for cancer We're gonna thaw out "The Duke"
And he's gonna be pretty pissed off
You know why?
Have you ever taken a cold shower?
Well, multiply that by 15 million times
That's how pissed off "The Duke"'s gonna be
I'm gonna get "The Duke"
And John Cassavetes
And Lee Marvin
And Sam Peckinpah
And a case of whiskey
And drive down to Texas

re: #218 lawhawk

Thanks Law, helps prove my point. One more thing, I wish there would be less reliance on polling. Polling seems to come up short every election. I mean that the polls taken before elections don't seem to jive up with the election returns. I put a lot more faith in prediction-type markets. Since some of those have cash payouts (the University of Iowa Biz school runs a good one) or at the least maybe offer prizes or bragging rights, people will vote their true feelings because they want to win. Nobody will make a losing monetary bet on a prediction market just to be PC. I have a Rasmussen Political markets account. The 'president Obama" contract isn't as wildly popular as some of the polling would indicate.

There were thousands of Chinese Falun Gong supporters marching in downtown DC today, on this awfully hot & humid beautiful day blocks from the White House.

The stance, here, that Creationists are stupid -- or worse, equivalent to radical Islamists -- isn't just annoying. It's ignorant.

Seeing that anger -- importantly, gleeful anger -- applied toward Creationists is interesting, and noted. I'll remember it, from now on, when reading criticisms of other distrusted populations.

So, how come this isn't being called a settlement? Oh wait, it's Palestinian Arabs we're talking about, not Israeli Jews.

The sad fact is that it's housing. Housing is fungible and can be bought and sold. Housing is not an impediment to peace between the Palestinians and Israelis.

Palestinian bombings, shootings, mortar and rocket attacks, kidnapping plots, and assassination plots are what keeps there from being peace. The Palestinians have no interest in peace alongside Israel. They always have been, and will remain, dedicated to Israel's destruction until they are defeated.

It's the last line of defense for the indefensible. This is why Obama is in a lot of trouble as this thing wears on. Americans like a President who can take a punch, and he has a glass jaw on 98% of the stuff that comes out of his mouth. I guess we can count on him to allow babies to be killed if the survive an abortion, but other than that...no mas.

Oops. Was that a cheap shot? Do I get on the enemies list for that?

I am so glad that you pointed out the full birth abortion thing.
Most people are unaware that he bottled up a bill in comitteee that would have stopped it in Illinois. For those who don't know, the bill would have required doctors to render medical care to an infant , fully born after a botched abortion.
Whether one is pro choice or pro life, at that point it is a human being in full.

And there were loans people clould make where nothing was put down, the borrower had a monthly payment that was less than monthly interest, and the loan could be 120% of the value of the house (Option ARMs, if you aren't familiar). The borrower after 5 years would have to start making payments to bring that balance down. The banks also did not really ask the borrower if they could repay on a 30-year amortization. They only asked the borrower if they could pay the teaser rate.

I always thought that somebody would bring lawsuits against the banks for putting them into these loans because they "didn't understand" the terms. They aren't bringing suits. They just aren't paying.

I worked my summer out of HS before going into the Air Force in the Boise National Forest. It was an experiment, the crew I worked on when through with a chainsaw. We selective thinned to return the forest to a balance of size and species of trees, then use controlled burns to get rid of the under brush etc... The plan was to let natural fires occur with minimal control, and selective log every 50 years.

The project was shut down.

The Enviros sued.

If the experiment worked it would have greatly diminished clear cuts on National lands.

McCain used to call reporters on his bus "Trotskyites"--and they loved it, back in the day when McCain was the "rockstar" maverick.

McCain knows his liberals and can tell them by type, from one marxist/leninist/mao/fidel/deng xsao ping to Hollywood and back.
