Israel Arrests Palestinians in Bush Assassination Plot

Sat, Jul 19, 2008 at 9:02:24 am PDT

Six Arabs have been arrested in Israel for plotting to murder President Bush.

Israel today accused six Arabs of trying to set up an al-Qaeda cell within the country and said one of them had proposed attacking helicopters used during a visit by President Bush.

Israel’s Shin Bet counter-intelligence agency said that one of the suspects had used his mobile phone to film helicopters at a sports stadium in Jerusalem that was used as a landing site for Mr Bush’s delegation.

Two of the suspects are Arab Israelis and four are Palestinians from East Jerusalem.

The two Israeli citizens were named as Ibrahim Nashaf, from Taybeh, and Mohammed Nejam, from Nazareth. Both are students at Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

Mr Nejam is suspected of having studied and photographed the helicopter landing area on the university campus with the view to an eventual attack on it, the spokesman said. Mr Bush landed there during his visit in January.

Let’s give them a state!

If you give a state, these folks probably wouldn't be part of it. They have all the benefits Israel gives (including a college education) and would probably not give them up.

Obama makes visit to Kuwait that nobody is supposed to talk about. The official 'first leg' of his tour is Afghanistan, but he apparently had some pressing business in Kuwait they don't want you to know about.

[Link: www.politico.com...]

Then someone posted suggesting the item should be made private, and it promptly was taken offline.

Politico asked Obama's campaign to comment on the post, and they asked us not to write about it, for security reasons. We asked whether it would assuage their security concerns if we simply reported that he had already departed on his world tour, without naming a destination. They said it would still pose a problem, and that any early reporting on the trip could raise real security issues that would affect the trip itself.

He was officially there "visiting the troops". In Kuwait? Yeah, right. He was probably visiting his donors and collecting instructions for acceptable ways to go to Israel.

22 Luigi  Sat, Jul 19, 2008 9:18:16am

On Obama in Kuwait.

Why he would fly hundreds or thousands of miles out of his way to make a secret visit to some obscure American troop base is ludicrous. That doesn't make any sense at all. There must be other people her wanted to met there without anyone knowing.

I'll bet this is the sort of thing that ties quite nicely into his not accepting campaign limits.

If there is information that the US has increased the number of troops in Kuwait, then it should be classified.

Be careful that you are not posting information on troop movement... if what you say is true then you might be increasing their risk for attack.

four are Palestinians from East Jerusalem.

If PA fingerprints are established, this constitutes an act of war against the United States.

Recall Bush 41 assassination plot was casus belli #9 in the Congressional Iraq War Resolution (P.L. 107–243);

Whereas the current Iraqi regime has demonstrated its continuing hostility toward, and willingness to attack, the United States, including by attempting in 1993 to assassinate former President Bush...

What is this give then a State nonsense? Keep up people.

They need two States. West Palestine for the bad terrorists in Gaza and East Palestine for the sometime terrorist killers, sometime good terrorist peacemakers of Abbas and Fatah. West Palestine to be allied with Iran. East Palestine to be allied with our friends the Saudis.

And seeing as two of these animals were not "poor uneducated destitute stateless Arabs" so loved by the State Dept and Tony Blair, but were in fact Israeli citizens with full rights educated at one of the world's best schools, and from Nazareth, no one expects them to move to West or East Palestine, so what about a State for them somewhere in Israel too. Somewhere up north so that they can easily give coordinates to Hezbulah, who already have a State, but want to continue killing Jews anyway.

He actually has less legislative accomplishments than John Kerry did in 2004. And that is not easy. I am pretty convinced that he will win the nomination but I am clinging to the hope that the guy won't be able to pass any of his social agenda due to his incredible lack of political experience.

I must admit it feels weird clinging to something other than my religion or my gun.

This is clearly just another case of Arabs expressing their free speech rights;

Assassination chic artist of the day

An artist’s video game that is being exhibited at a free-speech exhibit in Chicago challenges players to kill the president.

The video game is part of a “confrontational art” exhibit by Chicago-based artist Wafaa Bilal.

In the 3-D game, “The Night of Bush Capturing; A Virtual Jihadi,” players are sent on a mission to kill President George W. Bush.

FYI: Bilal was inspired by al Qaeda’s “Night of Bush capturing” jihadi propaganda video.

His website is “The Virtual Jihadi.”

And Obama and his grievance-mongering supporters have the nerve to whine about that New Yorker cartoon…

Just random numbers, actually - my old university used initials (JAS in my case) plus a number to make it unique. Some other guy with the same initials already had the username jas87, so I got jas88 and the next will be given jas89. We used those usernames for everything, so it's stuck with me. For a while after graduating, I tried to use my first name, but of course there are millions of guys called James out there; JamesS doesn't help much, but jas88 is almost always free.

(I've heard of some fringe Nazi groups using 18 and 88 to stand for AH and HH respectively, but I like to think that's pretty obscure; even Germany, which bans things like HJ from license plates because of the association with the Hitler Youth, is happy to use HH as the region code for all Hamburg plates, so it can't be that commonly used!)

Nothing to do with the alphabet, actually.

As for an actual geographical state, I agree: they've got Jordan, which is pretty much the Palestine they claim to be demanding, both in geography and in population. Beyond that, though, they've got borders, a flag, a President and far, far more weapons and combatants than could possibly be justified - it's even recognized as the "State of Palestine" by over 100 countries, so what's their real demand?

Sure, they want to expand their borders to include someone else's country - just like Hitler's Germany did; the Gaza Strip and West Bank aren't "contiguous" - just like the US with Washington and Alaska; they keep having problems with terrorists which require foreign troops to sort out, just like Iraq and Afghanistan. None of those prevents those countries from actually being countries - so what concession is it they are really demanding now - more territory to be carved out of Israel, or is the whole "statehood" demand just an excuse for never-ending aggression?

re: #80 Perry

Shin Bet is really on top of things. Tony Blair, now President Bush.

That, or the terrorists are doing some "traitor tracing", rooting out intelligence sources in their midst; if you have a terrorist cell you think might be infiltrated or under suspicion, have it act suspiciously (like videoing helicopter landing sites) and see what happens. If the cell gets picked up, you know it was being monitored already. (Or you give each cell a different target, then when, for example, Bush and Blair pull out for security reasons but Sarkozy doesn't, you know it's the third cell which was 'clean' and the first two are compromised.)

Or, as the two comments on the Times website so far suggest, it's all just Israeli propaganda, part of their evil plot to deprive that poor misunderstood Ahmadinejad of his peaceful nuclear weapons program... *sigh*

I'm glad Shin Bet's on the ball, anyway.

Yep; for a country under such severe threats, I've never understood why they don't. Overcompensating for the Holocaust, perhaps, feeling that allowing the state to take life off the battlefield is just too dangerous whatever the reason? Dead terrorists might be used as recruiting figures - but only live ones fire missiles at you!

Worse still, as with Gitmo, can these guys actually be tried effectively? They were caught before carrying out an attack; they're probably lawyered up already and will be out in a year, with a restraining order banning Shin Bet from looking at them again until they've actually been caught firing missiles at people. The whole law enforcement approach to counter-terrorism just doesn't work, as anyone brighter than a Senator from MA can tell you!

I've never heard of that 88 thing, but poor jas88 even ended up with the 88th comment. The nazi's are really trying to get to him aren't they?!

BTW -- did you guys know Obama's in Afghanistan? That may be why I haven't seen this particular news tidbit played for what it's worth.

/grrrr

We give these pigs our tax payer's hard earned money and they dance in the streets on 9-11 and try to assassinate our President.

I think it's time for a Constitutional amendment that approval for all money sent overseas needs to be subject to a vote by the people who are paying this money: the taxpayers.
