I remember it too. It seems to me that Mr. Condell takes an initial attitude of "I'm smarter than all those other dumber-than-I people, and I will now reason out a solution that they can't see", and goes where this leads. Unfortunately, this also leads to Socialist-style upsetting of established order, only leading to a new not significantly better order emerging, plus a few million dead. If the smarter-than-you reasoners ever admit that they were wrong, all you get from them is an "oops".
In the Israel/Jerusalem case, the solution is "if the Arabs want it so much, let them have it". Unintended consequences are... well, you and I and just about everyone else on LGF can see them, but not Comrade Condell. So I agree with you: generally good, usually entertaining, but in some cases flawed. I don't think that he will be interested in feedback.

Bollocks can be either testicles, "he had large 'airy bollocks"

@amphibian and others, Pat Condell's outlook is very similar to Theo van Gogh's.
Both are former "leftist" nihilists who have their priorities straight when it comes to basic freedoms and who understand the threat of islam. They are certainly not socialists, but they are liberals, certainly in the European sense.
For American conservatives, this type is liberal is a much better ally than a European conservative! European conservatives are much more likely to be elitist ex-monarchists, EU-supporters or neonazis.

No - but I have a couple great stories.
A bit of a favorite:
Driving back from Tracy, California very late one night, I cut through Livermore and then through the canyon over to Fremont. As I'm happily swooping through the last set of curves in the brilliant moonlight, three boys come tumbling down the slope and onto the road in front of me.
I managed to miss them. I put the window down and started yelling at them, asking what the heck they thought they were doing.
One of the boys - who smelled very strongly of beer - explained that they'd been out cow-tipping. However, one of the cows turned out to be a bull. They had to run and dive over the fence. This is how they came to be tumbling down a slope and nearly got hit by me.

An activity usually engaged in by drunk, bored boys. Cows sleep with their legs tucked under. If you walk up to the cow and give her a shove, she tips over. Alternatively - and more dangerously, both for you and the cow - some cows sleep standing up. Walk up to the cow and give her a shove (from the uphill side) and she'll go tumbling over.
However, if she wakes up, she'll kick the snot out of you, and if you're downhill of her...well...cows are not light.

To clarify, it bothers me too, but I am willing to overlook his view on those few other things regarding Israel as ignorance, and I still enjoy the rest of his stuff.

Check this out.
This little piece from The Columbia Journalism Review captures everything wrong with journalism and higher education in one neat little package.
First the author quotes Howard Zinn as if he's an expert on anything:
For someone like myself, who fought in World War II, and since then has protested against war, I must ask: Have our political leaders gone mad? Have they learned nothing from recent history? Have they not learned that no one “wins” in a war, but that hundreds of thousands of humans die, most of them civilians, many of them children?
Then the journalist agrees with him:
He’s right, of course. The term “victory” in relation to recent armed conflicts seems almost non sequitur, not only because of the irreparable human costs associated with war but, more immediately, because of the changing schema of the conflicts.
And to top it off, the author seems to write off the nation/state as well:
Winning a war in the traditional sense of the word may have gone the way of nation-states, as Zinn suggests. But the rhetorical power of the word “win” may be too strong for the candidates to avoid.
The poison of post-modernism runs deep in the media, and all the cool journalists think they are post-national as well.

Would 'Rathergate' Make a Good Movie?
Hollywood Insiders Working on Screen Adaptation
by Felix Gillette
The Media Mob has learned that a team of Hollywood insiders is currently working on a screen adaptation of Truth And Duty: The Press, the President, and the Privilege of Power—the 2005 book by former CBS News producer Mary Mapes, in which she defends the 60 Minutes II story by Dan Rather about President George W. Bush's time in the Texas Air National Guard, which ran on CBS in September 2004 and eventually led to her ouster from the network.
Who would want to turn "Rathergate" into a feature-length film?
According to sources familiar with the situation, Producer Mikkel Bondesen, (his credits include serving as executive producer on the USA Network series "Burn Notice") is actively working on the adaptation with screenwriter James Vanderbilt

War is the endgame of failed diplomacy.... Saddam had plenty of opportunities to save his people from our attack. He chose not to or thought the 200,000 troops massed in Kuwait were merely props. His choice and I'd say on behalf of the Iraqi people, he blew it.

No problem with that. When I mentioned socialists before, it was merely as an example of reasoning without reality checks leading to costly errors.

The author of the article ponied up zero evidence for those claims about Kipling, so I suspect they're crap. Nevertheless, Kipling had pretty broad sympathies, so I wouldn't be surprised to see that he had respect for men who adhered to a strong martial and ethical code. Cow-tipping, please explain?
Some places in the US, especially around towns that are far from any big cities, but have large university campuses, seem to have a hard time hiring enough waiters for all their restaurants. Some restaurants have come up with the rather clever solution of using dairy cows, when they're not at work being milked, to bring patrons their food. Cow-tipping, then, is the practice of leaving some alfalfa or sweet herbs out on the table, to let the cow know she's done a good job.
Why Dianna's undergrad guys were running away after tipping their cow, I don't know.

Yuk. Howard Zinn was used as a source for my "Multicultural Education" class which we aptly renamed Marxism 101. A little squirrel of a man, Christopher Adams, a white man himself, pushed white guilt on use as if our salvation depended on it. Did I mention he pushed Chomsky on us and was a huge fan of Ward Churchill?

You're right. And then there are probably some people from after I stopped watching.
Larraine Newman was in some bad science fiction movie for a few minutes.
Yeah, the Invaders from Mars sequel. That was a disappointing one.

Is vehemently disagreeing with those that would kill homosexuals a phobia?
Is vehemently disagreeing with misogynists that treat women as chattel a phobia?
Is opposing those that consider Jews monkeys and pigs to be exterminated a phobia?
Is resisting those that would eliminate free speech and discussion a phobia?
Is standing firm in the face of those that demand their religion predominate a phobia?
You get the idea. It has little to do with Muslims, and everything to do with Islamists.
Sometimes one must break ones opposition to its essence to receive a hearing from those far a port.

"The White Man's Burden" was written to welcome the United States to imperial responsibilities during the US's struggle with the Moro rebellion following the Spanish-American War.
Yes, but I initially came away from the work with the perception of negativity:
Take up the White Man's burden--
And reap his old reward:
The blame of those ye better,
The hate of those ye guard--
As one example.

Fat guys on SNL and keyboard players for the Dead
What three words could have saved John Belushi's life?
No coke, Pepsi.
Well actually he was doin' a speedball (for you innocent lizards out there that's cocaine and heroin mixed together).
Also, I'm going to try and say this diplomatically cause maybe you all get the joke and maybe not; "cow-tipping" was originated as a way to get naive out-of-towners out into the "patty-filled pasture" for laughs and no one wants to admit they were made a fool of so the city-folks pretend like it was real and the story just keeps getting passed on. (also used as an excuse to authority on why you're running around late at night when you're supposed to be home). I was raised in farm country and worked a few dairy farms and trying to "tip a cow" is just not likely unless you're built like the HULK.
1. When they sleep they lie down. Oh they may doze standing up but believe me they know what's going on around them. (try, just try to sneak up on one and you'll find out).
2. Most 3-5 yr old cows weigh upwards of 800 to 1000 lbs. Not so easy to move let alone tip.
3. As someone noted above, most cows are fairly placid and will just move away from you but at night and disturbing their herd and rest ... well think how YOU'D feel and how ticked off you'd be.
Just sayin' :>

Hey, I'll admit it; I am Islamophobic.
I am definitely afraid of zealots and death cultists cause I kind of like living and I'm afraid that Islam is full of both.

Kipling is merely recognizing that bearing responsibility is a thankless task.
Neither of my college majors required much reading beside extremely esoteric technical/professional material so it was only in the past year that I read WMB. The parallels between the section I quoted above and the ongoing/end result of the Iraq rescue was what immediately struck me when I read it. It just seems odd that a writer that was ostensively in favor of the U.S. entering the conflict decided to use such a realistic/fatalistic brush to paint the work.

Dude,
I am in that group of 45 million americans who cannot afford to pay for health insurance but pay cash instead. I am personally offended every time they charge me the same dollar they charge the insurance companies when I am a cash customer. Insurance is just a racket like gambling and other types of racheteering and it drives up the cost for everyone. 45 million--45 with a bunch of zeros--can't afford to pay off the man or can not or will not work a meaningless job just for the benifits.
I am glad for you if you have some cush job that pays well and has health care, just don't knock those of us that are not so fortunate.
Don't call us illegal aliens either. The insurance system is inherently corrupt and is failing on it's own. It a system that doesn't need fixing, it need elimination as does the monopoly of the AMA. Perhaps Mr McCain should talk about this and whup Mr Obama in the elections.
Just a thought

I've oftened wondered about Pat Condell. His #1 passion in life is his attack on religion and G_d. This sidejob he does against the islamofascists - I often wonder if Pat really hates the jihadists and the islamists for their fascist, terroristic ways or if he is more angry that much of the world regards islam as a religion.

apparently you didn't continue on to the link or you would realize I was quoting what was said in the article.
I called no one illegal. I said that the health care obama was touting would mostly go to the illegals.
I don't have a cush job. I don't have health insurance.
I think you're another of these folks that registered a year ago and are just now popping up give people agita. I don't think you did think before you posted. socialist government-paid-for medicine leads to rationing and less medical care. Look around the world and really, really read about what they have and that their system is a worse failure than ours and tell me we need socialist medical care.
comment again when you're prepared better and read what I said instead of what you feel or think I said.

There's nothing wrong with that so long as he's able to think critically and question his own assumptions.
Mr. Condell strikes me more of a liberal centrist, but that is strictly my own opinion.
I'm commenting because I personally know Pro-Israel Zionists who also identify as leftist. Might sound like an oxymoron to some, but it's a reality.

The "swimming pool" example is a masterpiece of simple illustration.
Muslims can ban non-Muslims from a session at a public swimming pool.
It's not racist intolerance, because Islam is not a race. Banning non-Muslims is merely religious doctrine.
However, if you criticise this doctrine, then you are an intolerant racist because language can be made into whatever people want it to be made into.
Imagine a slightly different scenario, in which Meo-Nazis had a special "no blacks" day at the pool.
It's difficult enough to imagine a municipal facility allowing such flagrant racism, but in your wildest fantasies can you imagine the NAACP or the ACLU being vilified and branded as racists for not respecting the views of Neo-Nazis?
No doubt some readers would brand me a racist, Islamophobic bigot for likening Neo-Nazism with this small microcosm of Islam, but if both groups seek segregation surely it doesn't really matter if the motive is political or religious ideology.
If that were the case, then the Neo-Nazis would receive the same "protected species" status as Muslims, simply by declaring their views to be a religion.
Of course, that would not wash with the left, but who said they were consistent?
Remember - everyone is free slam the hell out of Christianity, Mormonism and Scientology, even though - like Islam - they are religions. You can even slam the jews as long as you remember to call them "Zionists".
So why are Muslims protected against any criticism. Why are its detractors branded racism (even when they are criticising Islamic racism)?
Easy.
Because, with us being at war with fundamentalist Muslims, white guilt instantly by-passes any logic or argument and automatically makes Islam the "victim" in any circumstances where it runs up against Western values. The Self-hating left will take any side as long as it is against ours.
Remember this, any time anyone accuses you of Islamophobia. Try to picture them defending wife beaters or gay bashers with the same gusto. Try to imagine a special "phobia" word being invented to inhibit criticism of Neo-Nazis. Then walk away - safe in the knowledge that it is those creeps that are the bad guys. They are Vichy.
