A Rathergate Movie?

Mon, Jul 21, 2008 at 8:39:52 pm PDT

If they’re really going to make a movie about the Rathergate scandal, and base it on the ludicrous book by moonbat pseudo-journalist Mary Mapes, it’s going to be a bad joke.

The Media Mob has learned that a team of Hollywood insiders is currently working on a screen adaptation of Truth And Duty: The Press, the President, and the Privilege of Power—the 2005 book by former CBS News producer Mary Mapes, in which she defends the 60 Minutes II story by Dan Rather about President George W. Bush’s time in the Texas Air National Guard, which ran on CBS in September 2004 and eventually led to her ouster from the network.

Who would want to turn “Rathergate” into a feature-length film?

According to sources familiar with the situation, Producer Mikkel Bondesen, (his credits include serving as executive producer on the USA Network series “Burn Notice”) is actively working on the adaptation with screenwriter James Vanderbilt.

Mr. Vanderbilt wrote the screenplay for the 2007 serial killer movie Zodiac—based on the nonfiction book by Robert Graysmith—and is currently writing the screenplay for Spider-Man 4.

In the book, Ms. Mapes was highly critical of how her bosses at CBS and Viacom handled the aftermath of the wildly controversial story about President Bush’s military service. Along the way, she lays much of the groundwork for what could be a juicy White House conspiracy thriller.

“Money is the master,” wrote Ms. Mapes. “That is the bottom line to what happened at CBS that fateful fall when we aired a story that, like all stories, was imperfect, but was absolutely grounded in fact. It was well researched and well documented. But when Viacom saw that the story was not well received and that a conservative firestorm was threatening the corporation’s financial well-being, their collective wallets started itching. As a result, I believe CBS News, 60 Minutes, Dan Rather, and journalism itself got badly scratched.”

marks my words
I have said it before and will say it again

this is all going to happen (the made-for-tv-movie and the trial between CBS and Dan Rather) in time for the election so they can get maximum anti-republican "coverage" from their partners in crime, the media

you can bet all the networks will be hyping the trial
and History and Discovery will run "specials" on 'the making of the anti Bush movie' as if it has some historic or mechanical importance that will make it "an event", like a Star Wars sequel/prequel

and why B. Hussein Obama and Reverend Wright must be stopped in November

45 Mich-again  Mon, Jul 21, 2008 8:51:07pm

My own underground theory of Rathergate is that Billy Jeff Clinton staffers scanned FBI files of GOP politicians using optical character recognition software that converted them into Word files instead of saving them as pdf's. Which of course made them totally useless unless you admit you scanned FBI files illegally.

79 jcm  Mon, Jul 21, 2008 8:58:33pm

I wonder if this Mapes escapade will make the film....

In the winter of 1987, officers announced themselves and knocked on the door of a known Seattle drug den. They then heard some noise and forced themselves in when no one answered the door. A low-level drug dealer named Erdman Bascomb stood up with a dark, shiny object in his hand. An officer fired, Bascomb fell, and officers pounced on the "weapon": a black TV remote control. Bascomb died.

The Bascomb shooting angered many people in Seattle, and officials quickly organized an inquest. Then KIRO aired an incendiary story titled "A Shot in the Dark," in which a previously unknown witness named Wardell Fincher accused the cops involved in the raid of lying. He said he saw officers arrive at the house, burst in with no warning and shoot Bascomb, who might not have even known the intruders were cops. The story shifted to possible criminal wrongdoing by the police. Mr. Fincher was summoned to the inquest, and previous witnesses recalled. The reporter for the sensational segment was Mark Wrolstad, now a reporter with the Dallas Morning News. The producer was his wife, Mary Mapes.

Fortunately for the cops, Mr. Fincher wasn't the only one at the scene of the raid that night. A reporter for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Mike Barber, was tagging along with officers. Mr. Barber observed the officers arriving at the house, knocking, announcing themselves and then entering. He was there when the shooting happened and when the ambulances were summoned. At that point, a man "reeking of alcohol" walked out of some nearby bushes and approached him. He wanted to know what had just happened. That was Wardell Fincher. But Mr. Fincher wasn't thoroughly checked out, so all this came out after the story aired. The police were eventually cleared but it took years and an unsuccessful civil-rights lawsuit by the Bascomb family to undo the damage.

That is the bottom line to what happened at CBS that fateful fall when we aired a story that, like all stories, was imperfect, but was absolutely grounded in fact. It was well researched and well documented. But when Viacom saw that the story was not well received and that a conservative firestorm was threatening the corporation’s financial well-being, their collective wallets started itching. As a result, I believe CBS News, 60 Minutes, Dan Rather, and journalism itself got badly scratched.

What fact? A forged document made with Word? If, and I do mean IF a real document existed, that would be a story. The couldn't find said documents so they made one up. Journalism got badly scratched because CBS used fake documents to help their candidate.

My own underground theory of Rathergate is that Billy Jeff Clinton staffers scanned FBI files of GOP politicians using optical character recognition software that converted them into Word files instead of saving them as pdf's. Producer Mikkel Bondesen, (his credits include serving as executive producer on the USA Network series “Burn Notice”) is actively working on the adaptation with screenwriter James Vanderbilt.

Also

Mr. Vanderbilt wrote the screenplay for the 2007 serial killer movie Zodiac—based on the nonfiction book by Robert Graysmith—and is currently writing the screenplay for Spider-Man 4.

Spider-Man 4 will contain more truth and realism than Rather's story.

I hate to break it to you my friend, but political satire of the left is dead and buried. When Scott Ott (SRAPPLEFACE) makes more sense than an Obama speech... the party is over.

230 Purple Prose  Mon, Jul 21, 2008 9:45:11pm

Truth is truth and lies are lies. Propaganda is a tool. I suppose propaganda could be used in the service of spreading truth, but it's usually used to spread lies. Dan Rather was wrong. He was duped. He should come out and admit it.

This is not an isolated thing. We live in an era where lies told consistently enough and with the collusion of the media become accepted reality. Look at the myth of Palestinian suffering or Islamophobia in the West.

You have Israel releasing a child-killer, Samir Kuntar, a brutal murderer of a 4-year old girl by smashing her skull in with the butt of his rifle, among others he killed. Yet this guy is given a heroes welcome in Lebanon and celebrated in the Islamic press. While the Western MSM doesn't care that much, it's so outrageous that even some of the liberal media have wondered what is going through the collective head of the State of Israel, trading corpses for live murderers. Yet the propaganda machine goes on. All in all, it's just a prisoner swap to the West, while in the Islamic world it's a huge coup - propaganda has made Kuntar into a hero and he will always be an Islamic hero. The West shrugs and moves on.

The truth is that killers are killers. The West, and Israel, which should know better for Pete's sake, has aided and abetted in the deification of a killer. Whatever he did does not matter anymore. He is a hero.

Until the Mossad kill him. That's the one theory I have heard that makes some sense. They let him go so they could assassinate him. That would send the right message to the Islamic world, which sees compromise as weakness and lies as lies that a gullible West will accept if it is repeated often enough. They would get the message if Kuntar is killed soon. But I am afraid that it will not happen.

The West has given up on distinguishing truth from untruth. How un-PC. That involves judgement, the cardinal sin of PC-dom. Even Israel has bought into this. Its doom may be sooner than the Europe or the US's, but it's a canary in the coal mine. I hope I am wrong.

off topic, time for some levity

An old, blind cowboy wanders into an all-girl biker bar by mistake.

He finds his way to a bar stool and orders some coffee. After sitting there for a while, he yells to the bartender, 'Hey, you wanna hear a blonde joke?'

The bar immediately falls absolutely silent.

In a very deep, husky voice, the woman next to him says, 'Before you Tell that joke, Cowboy, I think it is only fair, given that you are blind, that you should know five things.

First, the bartender is a blonde girl with a baseball bat.
Second, the bouncer is a blonde woman.
Third, I'm a 6-foot tall, 175-pound blonde gal with a black belt in karate.
Fourth, the woman sitting next to me is blonde and a professional weightlifter.
And fifth, the lady to your right is blonde and a professional wrestler.
Now, think about it seriously, Mister. Do you still wanna tell that joke?'

The blind cowboy thinks for a second, shakes his head, and mutters,
'Naw, not if I'm gonna have to explain it five times.'

let's talk about them some more:

A blonde woman was speeding down the road in her little red sports car and was pulled over by a woman police officer who was also a blonde.

The blonde cop asked to see the blonde driver's license. She dug through her purse and was getting progressively more agitated.

'What does it look like?' she finally asked.

The police woman replied , It's square and it has your picture on it.'

The driver finally found a square mirror in her purse, looked at it and handed it to the police woman.

'Here it is,' she said.

The blonde officer looked at the mirror.

Then she handed it back saying, 'Okay, you can go. I didn't realize you were a cop.'

"Dating 60's style
It was a hot Saturday evening in the summer of 1960 and Fred had a date with
Peggy Sue. He arrived at her house and rang the bell.

'Oh, come on in!' Peggy Sue's mother said as she welcomed Fred in. 'Have a
seat in the living room. Would you like something to drink? Lemonade? Iced
tea?'
'Iced tea, please,' Fred said. Mom brought the iced tea.

'So, what are you and Peggy planning to do tonight?' she asked.

'Oh, probably catch a movie, and then maybe grab a bite to eat at the malt
shop, maybe take a walk on the beach...'

'Peggy likes to screw, you know,' Mom informed him.

'Really?' Fred replied; eyebrows rose.

'Oh yes,' the mother continued. 'When she goes out with her friends, that's
all they do!'
'Is that so?' asked Fred, incredulous. 'Yes,' said the mother. 'As a matte r of
fact, she'd screw all night if we let her!'

'Well, thanks for the tip!' Fred said as he began thinking about alternate
plans for the evening.

A moment later, Peggy Sue came down the stairs looking pretty as a picture
wearing a pink blouse and a hoop skirt, and with her hair tied back in a
bouncy ponytail. She greeted Fred.

'Have fun, kids!' the mother said as they left.

Half an hour later, a completely disheveled Peggy Sue burst into the house
and slammed the front door behind her.

'The Twist, Mom!' she angrily yelled to her mother in the kitchen. 'The
fucking dance is called the Twist!

JMV might be right - if it is in clinical trials they are usually looking for recruits. I've known several people in that boat but the closest to me was my aunt. Mary Mapes played by Janeane Garofalo
Dan Rather played by Ted Danson
Les Moonves played by Martin Sheen

and because they hate -- Charles Johnson played by Wallace Shawn

This idea is the biggest failure notion I've seen lately. Nobody goes to movies anymore. Nobody even watches them on TV. And that's comedies and adventures. If a studio is paying for this nonsense, their share holders need to have a meeting to remove the 'decision makers' pronto.

Did you know I'm dying to be a beekeeper? I'm ordering from Brushy Mt. six medium brood and supers -- not too big to lift. And I'm getting natural-sized foundation (comb pattern) which apparantly reduces mites and parasites. I'm so psyched (my boys are terrified.)

Tis true. After seeing the footage on this one, she had every reason to go and yell at her (she didn't yell tho). She had the line and the faster car, but the loony driver of the other car nearly caused an accident several times. It was someone jdeliberately being an ass with potentialy dangerous consequences. Like I said, Danica should have punched her.

The polling report ... from Hermy.

Today some interesting polls were released in those important states, Michigan and Ohio. Both look good.

No internals on this poll, but EPIC/MRA puts McCain within 2 percentage points. [Link: www.mlive.com...]

And in Ohio, PPP (a very lefty pollster) has Obama leading by 8 percent. This may sound dreadful, but he jiggered the poll so that there were 13 percent MORE Democrats than Republicans in the sample. It could be argued that this represents a win for McCain.

I have to wonder how close the translation is. Poetry/lyrics are not known to translate so pleasantly.

I was wondering around the other bollywood clips and it is interesting how much "techno" and these Indian videos seem to have in common. The techno is less lyrical, but shares a lot in the rhythm and percussion.
