Not much of an audience~

Look how many people showed up disguised as empty seats !

I'M KIDDING ! It's great!

3 Racer X  Thu, Jul 24, 2008 6:20:49pm

Liked it so much I'm listening to it again.

4 JeremyR  Thu, Jul 24, 2008 6:21:56pm

I hate these threads. I'm on dial up and have a slow connection. By the time it down loads, everyone is two threads up.

5 Sharmuta  Thu, Jul 24, 2008 6:22:59pm

I've come to enjoy Tommy so much, I created a Tommy Emmanuel station at my pandora. Thanks, Charles!

6 pat  Thu, Jul 24, 2008 6:23:40pm

Someone I have heard of.

7 CyanSnowHawk  Thu, Jul 24, 2008 6:23:43pm

Is it time for stupid young lizards to start attacking Charles about his musical tastes?

I suspect this is a good clip. I'll have a listen when I go home and it's not blocked by the company firewall.

Great guitar.

And a great quote:

John McCain has dedicated his life to serving, improving and protecting America. Barack Obama spent an afternoon talking about it.

Great guitar.

And a great quote:

John McCain has dedicated his life to serving, improving and protecting America. Barack Obama spent an afternoon talking reading off a teleprompter about it.

12 Macker  Thu, Jul 24, 2008 6:27:31pm

Does this count as the Afternoon Open Thread?

13 Luigi  Thu, Jul 24, 2008 6:29:41pm

I just watched Pawlenty on Hannity. Seems like a lightweight.

Not if you're in Hawaii.

How'd your exam go?

He;s solid. My problem with him as the choice is name recognition. I know the VP traditionally doesn't mean much unless God forbid the Pres dies, but I'm thinking in terms of the VP debates where during half of it he'll have to spend his time introducing himself to the electorate

Not if you're in Hawaii.

If I were in Hawaii, I'd be at the beach or hunting Hula dancres

Wow. New thread already. Open door.

How'd your exam go?

Folks, I got my ass kicked by the exam. I scored 125/250. It's that tough of a test!

/God, I need a drink!

23 red collar  Thu, Jul 24, 2008 6:39:26pm

Excellent tune. Love that guy.

Thank you sir for making me discover Tommy Emmanuel. I'd never heard of him until a few weeks ago.

24 MrBlonde21  Thu, Jul 24, 2008 6:40:11pm

I've been told freedom of speech includes the freedom to criticize things I don't like and find stupid or destructive.

That song was lame. Garbage like this is ruining the music community. Let this out-dated unoriginal music die so our society can advance. People that listen to this stuff come off to me as less intelligent than people who listen to music that is widely accepted as good by the rest of us who know better. I can't imagine more than a handful of people actually CHOOSE to listen to this but apparently people do. Some actually take offense when I point out how musically uninteresting these songs are.

But go ahead and give it a listen. I recommend absorbing the entire song.

25 Charles  Thu, Jul 24, 2008 6:41:20pm

Is that an axe I hear, grinding?

Wow, that was so bitter it would surprise Obama. Did we get our feelings hurt? Wait...that was rhetorical.

30 Thanos  Thu, Jul 24, 2008 6:45:19pm

That's a pretty nice axe that Tommy has, great tonal quality.

Idiot. No one is forcing you to be on this thread. Stop soiling Charles' carpets.

Would you prefer this?

/Hmmm, it seems that everything they say about blondes... Is 21 your age or your IQ?

[No intention of hurting any real lizard's feelings!]

34 sattv4u2  Thu, Jul 24, 2008 6:48:40pm

I guess Mrblonds answer of WHAT IS GOOD MUSIC is the SOUNDS OF SILENCE !

(I crack me up!)

Sorry that was meant to quote numbnuts. If this were my blog and he comes in pissing on the carpets I'd kick him the fuck out.

re: #27 sattv4u2

I prefer to criticize the music of others, it makes me feel smart. I mean, this is a really, really important subject. We should not let our children even be exposed to this kind of ancient rubbish. Can you imagine where we as a species would be if this music was widely accepted as good? I can't even imagine what the world would look like. The 1850's maybe?

Awful.

38 sattv4u2  Thu, Jul 24, 2008 6:59:41pm

re: #37 MrBlonde21

so in other words, "I have nothing"!

39 MrBlonde21  Thu, Jul 24, 2008 7:01:30pm

Disclaimer:

No offense to Tommy Emmanuel, he's obviously a very talented musician.

No offense to Charles. Other than a few select posts, I think this is an excellent blog.

That has to be the worst one yet. Anyone have one worse, that is for real to nominate?

How frustrated a guitar player are you?

48 Marvo76  Thu, Jul 24, 2008 9:44:40pm

Like his music or hate it, he can really play the guitar. Two of my friends who play got to meet him after a show in Ontario, they say he is a great person to talk to. I can't play a note myself, but I can sure appreciate a genius at work...

49 LeonidasOfSparta  Fri, Jul 25, 2008 5:14:46am

I have now purchased each of his albums and find no end to the pleasure of listening to him play. He's quite the most interesting guitarist in my collection.

50 guitarguy  Fri, Jul 25, 2008 5:33:57am

Tommy is amazing!
He's one of 2 humans to receive the CGP Award (Certified Guitar Player) from Chet Atkins.

Other killer axe-men to check out on Youtube:
Bireli Lagrene
Stochelo Rosenberg
Joscho Stephane

51 Pygmalienation  Fri, Jul 25, 2008 6:17:19am

I'm SO looking forward to seeing him play a small venue at the end of September!

52 lanmaster  Fri, Jul 25, 2008 7:45:17am

Wow. Sweet!

That guy has SICK skills!

53 NDMNTX  Fri, Jul 25, 2008 8:44:29am

I cannot imagine what would possess someone like mrblonde21 to be so insulting. Obviously Charles thinks highly of Tommy Emmanuel to recommend listening to his extremely difficult axe playing. You have to have a pretty low self esteem to need to stoop to this sort of ego boost. For your sake, I truly hope you get a grip on your foolish attitude towards more mature talent. Just because you're young doesn't mean you have to act stupid and say things that make you come off as an ass.

54 Pygmalienation  Fri, Jul 25, 2008 9:07:59am

This clip reminded me to go to Amazon and buy the CD "The Day Finger Pickers Took Over the World" with Tommy and Chet Atkins. Of course, I couldn't stop with just one CD...(sigh)

55 cincinnati_kid37  Fri, Jul 25, 2008 6:03:32pm

fyi- That is a tune written by Jerry Reed. Also, I think TE has a bass string in the low E position or has it wound down pretty low.

Chet had a bass string in the low E when he recorded this tune. He did that a lot.
