The Door Opens - Update: The Door Closes

Thu, Jul 24, 2008 at 6:33:13 pm PDT

The armor-plated door that guards the LGF registration vault has swung open. If you can make it through the maze of disclaimers and conditions and supply a valid email address, now’s your chance.

A cadre of highly brainwashed monitor lizards awaits. New hatchlings are scrutinized.

TANSTAAFL.

UPDATE at 7/24/08 6:56:18 pm:

Now closed with 72 hatchlings.

And I have turn the corner the other way. Most of my reading in the past has been scientific, history etc. But the last year I've gotten hooked on some of these "screenplays in the form of a novel," quick 500 page reads. (my description)

I really enjoyed the Simon L. Green "Nightside" series.

Delirium Tremens or La Fin du Monde if we are going the high route on beer.

Should we tell the newbie hatchlings that the Zionist checks, the checks from Big Oil, and the hush money to squelch 911 Truth are smaller than they think? After all, my helicopter will barely fit on the landing pad on my little yacht.

Walter

Were are you getting "cool" air?

Normally in Ottawa at this time of the year we've highs in the 90s loaded with humidity you can carve with a knife but due to Gore-bull warming, we've had one of the coolest summers on the books. I'm really disappointed because I love lots of heat/humidty (who else would visit Texas at the end of July but a finally defrosted Canucksicle?) and this summer is a write-off. Because I've been really burned-out at work I'll take the cooler weather blessing anyway.

Yeah, they are great. I love the Pendergast novels! Did you know there is a movie of Relic? It sucks, though, they removed Pendergast from the story and moved the location to Chicago.

I haven't gotten to any of the Pendergast novel yet. I've Read "The Ice Limit," "Riptide" and "Thunderhead" in that order.

Since I collect meteorites, prehistoric southwestern pottery and I am well versed in the "Oak Island" mystery, those three books interested me first.

Just finished "Thunderhead." Recommend my next one?

Speaking about baseball - did anyone hear the story about Manny Ramirez in Seattle? He was leaving the stadium after the game and crossed in the middle of the street to avoid the crowd. Officer sees him, asks for his ID, tells him to go back and cross the street at the light. The officer starts up with him that there is a $500 fine and he could go to jail for disobeying a police officer.

This is so typical Seattle. I've been yelled at for crossing in the middle of the street when there was no traffic. In fact people say they can tell someone from Seattle as opposed to elsewhere. The people from elsewhere will cross the street against a red when they can. I suppose we could just go bomb it all willy-nilly, but the resulting conflagration would conceivably be as bad as anything Iran could have realistically wrought anyway.

You may be right Cognito. It does seem to me that the inexorable grind on international relations and the global economy cries out for resolution. Something is sure to break the status quo with Iran. I'm trying to think of an historical precedent where these serious tensions were not released in violence aside from the Cuban missile crisis, and even that may have been ultimately defused in Vietnam?

And by the way, I do not for a moment think that any bombing would be "willy-nilly".

Don't underestimate the Israelis. They know where things are and how to take them out. Although Olmert is very weak I strongly suspect they''ll do it before the election, there's no guarantee President Obama will cooperate with logistical support. A series of tactical strikes could safely and easily eliminate the Iranian threat.

You have a very high estimation of the Israeli ability to "eliminate".... may I suggest that "delay" might be more likely? Unlike the single reactor that Iraq had, Iran's current nuclear program has many compenents - research reactor (how many?) and enrichment facilities (how many?), and perhaps a weapon (bomb design) program located among a disperse scientific/engineering establishment.

On whether a strike would cause the population to coalesce around the current regime leaders.... I am uncertain. I've posted at LGF various links to news items indicating the Iranian populace is getting ripe for a counter-revolution of some sort (against the increasingly oppressive enactment of Islamic-inspired laws), yet I don't know if any action by Israel (or the US) would cause these people to act on their discontent, or to fall in line behind the current leaders in whatever military retaliation they might take.

I pretty much agree with you, however the timeline is not likely to be political assuming there are adults making decisions. It will happen when it must whether the Euros are on board or not - most likely not. We can only hope we know just where the brink is and that can only be judged through intelligence gathering. This leaves me cold since errors now only favor the Iranians. It will take someone with guts to do what needs doing - American, Israeli, whatever.

I was reported over a year ago (I think) by none other than the National Enquirer and got a little play in the LA Times before being denied by Edwards. Then apparently the Enquirer stalked Edwards and caught him more or less red-handed. re: #226 The Shadow Do

Oh my, oh my. You do have a story to tell. Share?
/old guy who once campaigned for "Clean Gene"

I dunno. I guess I just got stupid for a while. I was exploring liberal Christianity at the time, and that moved me a bit to the left.

Another part was, I felt the world had changed drastically with the fall of the Soviet Union and I didn't think Bush I was prepared to grasp the opportunity. I really felt Clinton might do a better job. And then, Rush Limbaugh burst onto the scene and frankly, he turned me off. I didn't think Republicans needed a guy like that to make their case.

With the peace (yeah, I know there was the Balkans conflict, but no American pilots or troops got killed) and prosperity of the Clinton years I found it hard to criticize the guy, even though I didn't agree with everything he did. However, I distinctly remember being very concerned during those years that we were simply not doing enough to secure the peace after the fall of the Soviet Union. Too much was being allowed to fester.

Even so I still voted for Gore, but accepted Bush II as my President. I was impressed by his poise and actions following 9/11, including the routing of the Taliban in Afghanistan, but after the increasing violence that followed the initial success of the Iraq campaign I began to wonder if it hadn't been a mistake. I was excited by Dean's campaign, guess I got swept up in the enthusiasm, but the glow wore off after a bit and I lost interest. When I went to the polls I almost flipped a coin to decide who I'd vote for. Finally went "meh" and punched Kerry.

I spent a lot of time on Internet Infidels, a primary atheist/agnostic bbs, and although I enjoyed many of the forums, I got increasingly disgusted with the anti-American rhetoric in the political forum (and the gratuitious BDS comments in forums unrelated to politics). I complained about this several times. Then I saw a post referring to LGF and calling it a "right wing hate site." When I visited and actually checked it out I saw it was anything but, and after reading the posts and the links over a period of time the scales began to fall from my eyes. I realized there was so much going on that I hadn't known about. I visited Internet Infidels less and less and when I saw a Troofer thread on there, that was the last straw. I haven't been on that bbs for a long time.

And the Dan Rather national guard memo thing really put me over the top. Being from Missouri, I say "Show me," and Charles sure SHOWED ME! Cue the throbbin' memo! I was astonished at the naked arrogance and bias of the media, and it's only gotten worse...much worse. As have the Democrats. As far as I'm concerned, with the exception of Joe Lieberman and maybe one or two others, and a very few members of the media, they are all a bunch of filthy traitors. One thing I NEVER stopped doing while I was voting Democrat was loving my country and appreciating the preciousness of freedom and democracy, as well as the magical results of the confluence of political, intellectual, spiritual, and economic liberty. The vast majority of Democrats these days clearly do not appreciate these things.

The nasty display of dems using Wellstones (?) funeral for a fund raiser is the day I was no longer dem or lib.... I was lib I thought for many years, but all the views confused me so much until I realized I wasn't ! LOL On some issues perhaps, but mildly.

Anyhow..... the thing about government health care... I assume that will mean that the gov will own our med records. I have yet to know any lib who wants the gov to have access to their personal records, but I have to assume that will go along with the territory. And I imagine that this will include therapists as well.

A sockpuppet is an online identity used for purposes of deception within an Internet community. In its earliest usage, a sockpuppet was a false identity through which a member of an Internet community speaks while pretending not to, like a puppeteer manipulating a hand puppet.

We all know how well the U.N.'s nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) works -- right?

Well here's one that will really drive you nuts: [Link: news.yahoo.com...]

UNITED NATIONS - A Swiss-led, five-nation panel proposed Thursday that the United Nations assert itself as leader of a global fight against terrorism and establish a new agency or program to coordinate that effort. (ha, ha)

It also recommended that the U.N. assist counter terrorism officials from individual nations in promoting "a human rights-based approach to counter terrorism" that disdains torture and preserves prisoners' rights. (ah, your joking)

"It's an attempt maybe to shift or, should I say, to rebalance the focus away from the war on terror to a more comprehensive way in dealing with terrorism," Swiss Ambassador Peter Maurer told The Associated Press. (Obama will just love this)

"There is a need to deepen interagency cooperation and cooperation, both at the national and international level, and this should not be limited to traditional counter terrorism actors, but also include human rights, development, health and social services," he said. "We continue to advocate for the creation of a body that unites all current U.N. counterrorism efforts under one roof, and gives it a clear mandate and direction." (Yeah, lets give OBL free healthcare for his kidney disease)

Only a idea like this could come from the UN.

So after these 'few short hours' the threat will go away and we can all return to Major League Baseball? Who handles the retaliation? I'll tell you: American infantry in Iraq.

I hope you don't misunderstand me. I want a democratic Iran at peace with itself and it's neighbors. I do not believe an Israeli air raid will help achieve this goal.

The only military solution to Iran is regime change and victory. Anything less exposes American troops to unacceptable Terms of Engagement.

Well, I'm tired tonight, and probably am not making my points plain. We are in one helluva bind here. If the Israelis attack, they are as much as dragging us into a real-live shooting war with Iran, and maybe a few other ME countries. Are we in any way ready to take them on? Sure we have this huge military. We can rain destruction down on anyone we choose. Our pols don't have the guts. Our media is made up of traitorous dogs who would swing from the lamp posts of any other country in the world. Most of our country is fat, dumb and happy and ready to watch the next football season and hope for another nipple-slip from some 'C' list celebrity. WAR is about WILL and although there are many hearts stalwart and true in this country, they aren't empowered to act. I won't even say they aren't the majority, they just don't have a chance. It will take another 911 to rouse the giant again, after 7 years of the media-sirens cooing words of sleep in his ear.

I'm glad Rush will say what most others are afraid to utter. He's been a consistent, vocal opponent of the madness that is political correctness in this country. God bless ya, Rush.

Rush had an impact on my political awakening also, but not quite in the way most would surmise.

I was in college when he started making the scene big time (especially his TV show) and everyone around me (students, friends, co-workers) would rail on and on about the right wing bigot spouting horrible, ridiculous things, and how could anyone ever take such a buffoon seriously, blah, blah, blah. Having no idea who the man actually was, I thought I'd tune in one night just to see what all the fuss was about. And after watching a couple programs, I still failed to see what all the fuss was about. To me he was just an outspoken commentator who many uttered things with which I found myself in agreement, and other things with which I disagreed. no big deal to me, so I couldn't understand the hissy fits he caused in those around me.

Then it struck me -- the reason he was causing such an uproar in my cohorts was because he dared do the unthinkable: present a critical viewpoint of politics and pop culture from the Right. To them, such viewpoints were completely nonexistent.

Later on I caught his radio show more frequently, and still find myself both agreeing and disagreeing with his various opinions when I happen to tune in. But I'm perhaps most grateful for his success for the opportunity it provided in paving the way for a bevy of many more (and often more insightful, to be honest) conservative radio hosts.
