The Lightbringer Brings Light to the World

Sat, Jul 26, 2008 at 9:18:02 am PDT

Never let it be said that the British don’t do sarcasm: He ventured forth to bring light to the world.

And it came to pass, in the eighth year of the reign of the evil Bush the Younger (The Ignorant), when the whole land from the Arabian desert to the shores of the Great Lakes had been laid barren, that a Child appeared in the wilderness.

The Child was blessed in looks and intellect. Scion of a simple family, offspring of a miraculous union, grandson of a typical white person and an African peasant. And yea, as he grew, the Child walked in the path of righteousness, with only the occasional detour into the odd weed and a little blow.

When he was twelve years old, they found him in the temple in the City of Chicago, arguing the finer points of community organisation with the Prophet Jeremiah and the Elders. And the Elders were astonished at what they heard and said among themselves: “Verily, who is this Child that he opens our hearts and minds to the audacity of hope?”

In the great Battles of Caucus and Primary he smote the conniving Hillary, wife of the deposed King Bill the Priapic and their barbarian hordes of Working Class Whites.

And so it was, in the fullness of time, before the harvest month of the appointed year, the Child ventured forth - for the first time - to bring the light unto all the world.

Looks like some Brits won't be voting for the Obamassiah in the Nov. election.

Awesome column. My favorite part:

And so it was, in the fullness of time, before the harvest month of the appointed year, the Child ventured forth -- for the first time -- to bring the light unto all the world. He traveled fleet of foot and light of camel, with a small retinue that consisted only of his loyal disciples from the tribe of the Media....

From there the Child went up to the city of Jerusalem, and entered through the gate seated on an ass. The crowds of network anchors who had followed him from afar cheered "Hosanna" and waved great palm fronds and strewed them at his feet.

Will it be noticed when Obama falls to earth? A man of so little substance as to find favorable comparison with a handful or chicken feathers? The sound and fury at the moment of failure of the media's candidate will be as significant as a pig fart chorus.

have you all seen this? via Commentary

on Obama's Germany speech

Obama’s vague language is the product of an unrealistic mind. He denies the reality of conflict — and flinches from the obligations of self-defense. Obama has risen to power by using a soothing cloud of meaningless words to conceal displeasing truths and avoid difficult choices. His more worldly supporters will quietly whisper that Obama thinks more incisively than his speeches suggest. Let’s hope so. Yet the speech in Berlin should cause us all to wonder: Maybe Obama’s mind really is as foggy as his language.

There will be wailing and nashing of teeth from the media. When Gore failed to dazzle, the media threw its fit and claimed "the election was stolen" despite mounds of ballots to the contrary. How many recounts can one do and have them point against you before you acknowledge the truth?

If the media pulled that with wooden Gore, you'll see the demonization of McCain far worse than what Bush had to suffer. They've found their King, their annointed one, and if he's not chosen by the people... I fear what the loons will do.

I overheard a comment on FNC this morning that was very revealing in the depth of the worship of some of the media people here in the US and abroad (paraphrased because I hadn't had any coffee yet and it was early morning when I heard it):

Obama is winning the media wars for this election because he is in the midst of a triumphant tour of giving speeches in the Middle East, Germany, France, and England. McCain gives a speech in a German deli in Minnesota.

Ultimately the media blitz that Obama is enjoying currently is going to back-fire for the simple reason is that Obama is showing he cares less, if at all, for Americans and their concerns than he cares for the rest of the world and how citizens of foreign countries feel. McCain, with little media coverage, meets with Americans in America, the only people who will have a say in the election.

PZ Myers blasphemes again. Guess who's seething.....
Morris chancellor defends instructor who defiled Eucharist, tore Qur'an

Paul Z. Myers, who teaches biology at the west-central Minnesota school, on his blog this week posted a picture of the wafer with a rusty nail through it and torn pages from the Qur'an. Also in the photo are tattered pages from a book by biologist Richard Dawkins that scoffs at the notion of a superior being.
....
In response to Myers' latest posting, the Catholic League, which for years has been actively challenging any instances it sees as an affront to Catholicism, said Thursday in a statement that he has violated the university's policy on expressions of bias and must be disciplined.

"Just as African Americans would not tolerate the burning of a cross, and Jews would not tolerate the display of swastikas, Catholics will not tolerate desecration of the Eucharist," said Catholic League President Bill Donohue.

The blasphemous post can be seen here, CAIR remains silent but I'm sure Donahue has emailed them. We'll see if the Catholic League and CAIR are actually going to join forces.

I found a German blogging on the Obama speech and ran it through babelfish translation; it had an interesting summary skewer:

"The speech was a pleasant disappointment. Contents I had reported already last Sunday, to which no large hellseherischen abilities necessary were. A majority of the spectators seemed to expect however, to Obama the transformation Americas into a “black Sweden” (like it my intelligent friend Sylke temple formulated) would announce. The fact that it in 25 minutes experienced the down-reeled, which an American president (ahem) says in such a way at such opportunities, left the quantity obviously unsatisfied. No ovations, no not-end-wanting Obama calls, simply drifting apart and the question, which one is to begin with the begun evening now.

One must be grateful Obama for the fact that he entzaubert himself so sincerely in Berlin before 200.000 spectators. "The star quality remains. But it was most visible if it did not talk."

All that bill does, AFAIK, and I've followed this pretty carefully, is to make sure that FannieMae and FreddieMac don't go under financially. This was more of a move to help out the markets than anything else - it's unlikely as heck that either Fannie or Freddie is actually going to need Fed money (other than borrowing from the Fed the way banks do) cause between them they own OVER a trillion dollars in mortgages; more than 50% of the home mortage loans in the nation- 97% of which are not in default.
If Fannie/Freddie went under, we'd see a depression even worse than the Great Depression of the 1930's.

re: #147 Mich-again
After reading through Meyer's entire post his inspiration for the image was here

At the time, the concept of Jewish deicide — that the Jewish people were responsible for the death of Jesus — was a generally accepted Christian belief. It was claimed that Jews stole consecrated hosts and desecrated them to re-enact the crucifixion of Jesus by stabbing or burning the host or otherwise misusing it. These accusations may have been based on the paradoxical belief that Jews considered the host the literal body of Jesus; by crucifying it they imagined they were crucifying Jesus anew. They were believed to use blood that flowed from the host to get rid of the "fœtor Judaicus" ("Jewish stink"), or to color their cheeks to give them a fresh and rosy appearance.

So he does have a valid criticism. It's very important that Catholics learn to deal with this, we don't need another religion who wants to stifle free speech. If he had just desecrated the Quran we'd have a front page post and we'd all praise him as a hero. I think it's important to consistent. I will however condemn the creeps that stole Obama's prayer from the Western Wall. Not because it's sacrilegious but because it's a violation of privacy.

My question is why is he campaigning overseas? Is he trying to get the vote in France?

It's one week. He's been campaigning in the US for a year and a half, and he'll be campaigning here for three more months. McCain, too, took an overseas tour after winning the Repub primary, visiting pretty much all the same countries.

re: #155 MandyManners

I could hear a girly squeal coming from her.

Here is the effective description of the work out from the article.

Obama (with toned arms and a strong back) puts on his headphones for his iPod to listen to pop music. He hums quietly. Then he jumps on a fitness bike. He pushes three times on the pedals – but then can’t be bothered with it.

He goes and picks up a pair of 16 kilo weights and starts curling them with his left and right arms, 30 repetitions on each side. Then, amazingly, he picks up the 32 kilo weights! Very slowly he lifts them, first 10 curls with his right, then 10 with his left. He breathes deeply in and out and takes a sip of water from his 0,5 litre Evian bottle.

Shortly before five o’clock Obama comes over and sits directly next to my cross-trainer on the mat. First he does 10 sit-ups, then stretches. Then he looks at his watch and says to his bodyguard: “It’s time, let’s go.” Quickly I ask: “Mr. Obama, could I take a photo?”. “Of course!” he answers, before asking my name and coming over to stand next to me.

He didn't sweat, little miss Lesley Stahl wannabe because HE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING!

A few observations:

(1) Dude does a few rotations on the bike. No work

(2) Dude does a few arm curls with a nice weight, but as anyone who lifts will tell you, "curls are for girls" and bicep curls are about as useful for normal life as your gall bladder. The ONLY thing they are good for-for 95% of us-is showing off.

(3) He does ten sit ups. Yes, TEN. I guess when you can simply divine will your belly fat away, you don't need much more. What is REALLY interesting is that he does his sit-ups on a mat RIGHT NEXT TO HER CROSS TRAINER. The ONLY reason that a man, ANY MAN, does this is to get attention of a female (or another guy, if so inclined). This was not a workout, it was a posedown.

(4) The junior senator shows up after 4:00 and leaves before 5:00. Presumably, he did something else in the hour more that a few arm curls, a handful of situps and photo-ops, but the reporter obviously (a) wasn't that good at her job-she let Barack workout without noting a complete list of exercises, or (b) she was in awe of his fabulous sinewy body and couldn't help herself.

If I were Michelle "the Shrew" Obama, I might be a bit nervous about my hubby trying so hard to show off to random women in the gym...but thankfully, I am not la Shrew.

No, Judith, when people don't sweat, it is because they didn't do anything. Kind of like Congress.

I think quite a few woke up the next morning, looked at the latest American polls, and thought "oh shit".

Obama really put them in a bind.

They all had to decide, "Do I snub this arrogant little prick, or do I give him all the pomp and ceremony of a state visit. The arrogant SOB could win, or he could lose."

I think that they would rather have been left out of it all together. Messing around in another countries internal politics is a no-no. Having a foreign politician like Obama manipulate you into it is just beyond rude.

"Obama said he came to Berlin as a citizen:
“I come to Berlin as so many of my countrymen have come before. Tonight, I speak to you not as a candidate for President, but as a citizen - a proud citizen of the United States, and a fellow citizen of the world.”
I thought that was really funny because obviously an ordinary citizen would never have been allowed to speak at the Victory Column.
The speech of course did not remain that modest:
“People of Berlin - people of the world - this is our moment. This is our time.”
Mmh.

After their 11th child, an Alabama couple decided that was enough, as
they could not afford a larger bed.

So the husband went to his veterinarian and told him that he and his
cousin didn't want to have any more dang kids.

The doctor told him that there was a procedure called a vasectomy that
could fix the problem but that it was expensive. 'A less costly
alternative, said the doctor, is to go home, get a cherry bom b,
(fireworks are legal in
Alabama) light it, put it in a beer can(COORS), then hold the can up to
your ear and count to 10.'

The Hillbilly said to the doctor, 'Now, I am aware that I am not the
sharpest tool in the shed, but I don't see how putting a cherry bomb in
a beer can next to my ear is going to help me.'

'Trust me,' said the doctor.

So the man went home, lit a cherry bomb and put it in a beer can. He
held the can up to his ear and began to count!

'1'

'2'

'3'

'4'

'5'

At which point he paused, placed the beer can between his legs and
continued counting on his other hand.

This procedure also works in Tennessee , Kentucky , Louisiana , Arkansas
, Mississippi , Missouri , West Virginia , and Oklahoma.

Obama had nothing to say to the Germans about anything. I can't imagine any of them cared about anything he had to say. He was using them as props to speak to his American audience. We were treated to successive years of glowing reports of the Annual $Millions bonuses paid to these Wall Street types while they were looting the nation.

there's a verse in the Bible which says something like: " to he who has much, more will be given, to he who has little, more will be taken away".
i'm not sure what that means, but our financial sector and laws seem to imply that predation on those least able to afford it is just fine in the US of A.
Our whole banking/financial industry has its hands around the throats of the little guy and the US congress in its pocket.

Banks are able to charge $5 minimum just to cash a check written by one of their account holders. That's petty graft and just wrong.
Banks also charge extraordinary fees for credit card late payments, over-limits, etc. and Congress lets them get by with this stuff and much more, while now making us do a big bailout.

I think it was actually worse than that. He seemed to be saying (and repeating) that America has caused more harm than good, and that Germany had as much to do with bringing the end to Germany in WW 2 (bizarre, I know) as well as eliminating the wall as America did.

The worst was when he mentioned the Berlin airlift, stating something to the effect the we dropped candy and coal, not bombs, never mentioning that it was BECAUSE we dropped bombs previously in WW 2 that ANY of Germany (and Europe) was free at all !

I think it was almost insulting to the Germans. Kennedy spoke to the Germans to tell them that he'd support Berlin, Reagan spoke to the Germans encouraging the Russians to tear down the wall. Obama had nothing to say to the Germans about anything. I can't imagine any of them cared about anything he had to say. He was using them as props to speak to his American audience. Watching this whole thing is just bizarre.

He put himself in a difficult situation rhetorically because he doesn't yet have a role that makes it possible for him to speak on behalf of the nation. Thus, everything becomes simply a matter of expressing hopes about good things. But even Charles Krauthammer liked his paragraph on Afghanistan! He said so on TV last night.

Reality check:
"...Obama's popularity should not be interpreted as a shift in German policy towards the United States. Many officials I spoke with while reporting from Berlin earlier this year said Germany will continue to act in its own interests no matter who is in the White House. Any debt owed to the United States for its role in ending the Cold War has been paid in full, they said. It is doubtful that Germany, if Obama is elected, would send more troops to Afghanistan, as this idea is wildly unpopular with the German public. Nor would the German government decide to scuttle the Baltic Sea pipeline. Both of these moves would be more in line with U.S. policy. Obama might be as popular as Elvis, but even the King couldn't wean Germany off of Russian energy.

Two more things to consider:

First, an Obama victory is not guaranteed. It is obvious that he is the popular choice among the chattering classes and the foreign policy community in the United States. But so was John Kerry four years ago. Obama might be popular on U.S. coasts, but U.S. elections are won along the Rust Belt in the Midwest, the steel factory workers in Pennsylvania and Ohio, and the rural South. This part of the country is still undecided on Obama. "

Most of my reading is recorded books because I spend so much time behind the wheel. I've "stuck it out" far too many times. If I am not engaged by the third CD in any book, I eject it, put it back in the sleeve and return it to the library.

I read "Beach Music" by Pat Conroy (love a lot of his work) kept waiting for it to interest me...recorded version was over 30 hours long.

I want those thirty hours back!

You I actually liked Beach Music. I just finiished John Grishams ,"The Appeal" If I had never read him before , maybe. Reading him, I felt like I coul write each new paragraph, he is so formula.
A man & wife crusading lawyers in Mississippi, mortgageing their futures & their childrens to help those injured by a NY chemical company with an evil greedy CEO.
A liberation Theology minister ala Slim C oleman in Chicago, helps out.
Grishams politics are all over the book.
It was good vs evil & all lawyers are good & have very little interes in fees, just justice.

Jennifer Rubin:
"The second impact of the trip stems from Obama’s mistake in assuming international acclaim and media adoration would impress the folks back home. Watching tens of thousands of Germans listen to his worldly appeal that “this is our [who is “our” exactly?] time,” voters back home may not be impressed. And poll numbers suggest they aren’t. The blatant appeal to international world opinion (why exactly was he giving a campaign speech to tens of thousands of non-voting Europeans?) may not be the recipe for success."

His biggest mistake so far.

One more thing. Here's what Obama said today about the canceled hospital visit. There was never any intent to take photographers. Again, he visited people in a hospital in Baghdad, and there were no pictures of that. Here's the quote.

Obama for the first time addressed the controversy over his decision to cancel a planned visit to the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany to visit wounded U.S. servicemen and women. The Pentagon had raised some concerns that aspects of the visit were be campaign related and on that basis Obama decided not to go.

"I was going to be accompanied by one of my advisors, a former military officer," he said. "And we got notice that he would be treated as a campaign person and it would therefore be perceived as political because he had endorsed my candidacy but he wasn't on the Senate staff. That triggered then a concern that maybe our visit was going to be perceived as political and the last thing that I want to do is have injured soldiers and the staff at these wonderful institutions having to sort through whether this is political or not or get caught in the crossfire between campaigns."

Of course, any kind of government will to some degree or another have to restrict individual freedom to SOME degree for the common good. If I just wake up one morning and decide to drive on the left side of the road rather than the right, the state is perfectly justified in stopping me from doing so.

I think conservatism lies in having individual freedom be the automatic default. Otherwise, there will ALWAYS be some groovy new idea that simply MUST be made into mandatory policy immediately... it's a very slippery slope.

Having been on both sides of the general political divide myself, and still having LOTS of friends and acquaintances (the majority, really) who identify as liberal, I feel comfortable saying this: Liberals are much, much more prone than conservatives to want to translate their personal preferences into mandatory, state-enforced policy.

Okay, so this unnamed person IS an Obama advisor, he says. Oh, and he's FORMER military, not active duty.

Complete non sequitur by the Obamessiah. So... he suddenly "got notice" that his campaign advisors are seen as... well... campaign advisors? Huh? And who gave him this earth-shattering "notice"? And who is doing the "perceving"? In short, what the fuck is he talking about?

And even taking his bizarre statement at face value; okay, so don't visit accompanied by that particular advisor. Problem solved.

I decided to post this, and found at least two people had already said it.

As a 59 year old mother of a 19 year old son with a house constantly full of 19 year old friends, I think his decision to blow off the visit to the wounded soldiers will-and should- cost him the election. I think we all need to publicize this and keep it alive because his campaign and the media will try to bury it. This is as powerful as the Goldwater-daisy-nuclear bomb ad and the Dukakis picture in the tank. It reveals his narcissism, his shallowness and how he will care for other mothers' sons.

Yes, that is contemptible -- if true.
Even if someone noted exactly where Obama was standing, there would still be a great many little cracks between stones where he could have put the note, and each crack usually holds several notes.
Did somebody collect them ALL to find his? And how would it be identified as his?
Even a note written in English is not necessarily his, for innumerable tourists from English-speaking countries leave notes.
Just a suspicion of course, with no evidence, but it could be that it was "arranged" for the note and its Sunday-School Exercise contents to be published.

The peoples of the earth (or at least those who actually had the right to vote for him) reaped what they had sown: Federal tax rates in the 50% range, interest rates in the low 20's, unemployment levels unseen before and enemies at the gates who would not since the seventh decade of the last century have come out from the shadows. But, at least they had "free" health care and Europe "liked" them.

And then from the wilderness came a new savior, one who patterned his thought based upon the teachings of the Great One of the eighth decade of the last century and who had ended the reign of the Carter...

(Hey, my fairy tales have happy endings....)

He really is a prophet:

Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama brushed aside Republican criticism of his overseas trip on Saturday and stood outside the famed 10 Downing Street to say that both President Bush and Sen. John McCain were moving his way on the key issues of Iraq and Afghanistan.

Yep. Given the successes and improvments in Iraq, no one could foretell that the days draw nearer for a troop reduction in Iraq. Barack baby, you're a f@*^%$g genius.

Get a load of this comment from "Baffled Democrat" at Real Clear Politics (linked from Neo-Neocon's blog):

(I edited for spelling and grammar)

Baffled Democrat

I am a college professor, as far to the left as you can imagine and what Obama is doing is beginning to horrify me. If you watch any - any - documentary on Hitler, you bound to notice frightening and striking similarities between the rise of Hitler and the Obama campaign, to say the least: the lack of self-irony, huge deliberately staged rallies, fear of debates, inability to engage in rational criticism, reliance on charisma and rhetoric, branding (logo, seal, etc), fainting women, religious iconography, tightly controlled messianistic self-image, hope/change/unity platitudes, bildungroman autobiography, indoctrinated youth followers, the use of new media in crafting and controlling the message, etc. Electing a democrat is extremely important to me, but it is begining to dawn on me as well that democracy is not guaranteed and it might be better to put up with McCain for four years than have someone who uses Hitler's spectacular strategies to manufacture power and gravitas.

Wow! Sums it up pretty pithily, eh?

As I noted on a previous thread a few days back, Obama is like an isolationist whose position in 1941 is, "there is no need for us to be at war with Germany"; in 1942, "no need for us to be at war with Germany"; 1943, 1944, and 1945, "no need for us to be at war with Germany"; and in 1946, as Truman is drawing down troop levels in Europe, "See! I was right all along!".

Never let it be said that the British don’t do sarcasm

Never let it be said that liberals get sarcasm.

I don't think Obama is going to win Presidency

1. he's black and the white liberal guilt won't make up for the people who aren't ready to see that in America.
2. he's a total unknown factor, and liberals have a hard sell even when they come with a record of moderation .. ie. Clinton never had a majority of voters
3. Hillary owns half the Democrat party.. and she isn't a happy camper.. Obama is going down.. and she's in campaign mode for 2012 right now!
4. the media has imo never picked a winner for president, so them laying in the mud for Obama to cross the puddles won't get them what they want.

Looks like Dinner Jacket's wife to me. That slut.

What puzzle's me is that a person in "disguise" would be allowed to approach Obama so closely. Just think IF something were to happen?

Burquas are disguises.

The name Lucifer means "light bearer". Close enough?

I'm starting to see some advantages to the burqha (or how ever you spell it) look. Even for a guy, it would work. Heck, you could carry a tire iron, brass knuckles, a Rem. 870, a broadsword, and an Uzi under one of those things and, if you could keep them from clanking, no one would be the wiser. Everyone would be afraid to take your picture....and if they did take your picture it would only embarass the lefty candidate you were trying to sneak up on get close to.

Gotta remember the eyeshadow and the stilletos, however.

check 7/25 Obama cancels trip to wounded soldiers. #305 for a different way to say the same thing about the second coming.

Rose of Quinn and Rose show out of Philadelphia read this on the show Friday morning and could barely get through it. Quinn kept breaking in laughing his ass off. It was so refreshing to see another country actually see thru some of the bs and cut the idiot down like he should be.

The big O's decision to NOT visit the wounded soldiers just may be the beginning of the end (or the end of the beginning) for his chances. He really pissed off a lot of vets and families of vets with casting aside this for his workout. Over the last week I could not watch the alphabet networks news (or Fox for that matter) because I just cannot take any more sucking up to the Obamessiah. I am totally fed up with him and his syncophants - he talks and says nothing of importance.

I read this article before we went to bed last night.

In the night I dreamed the following.

We went out for a meal with my parents. I ordered scrambled eggs on toast. When my order came I looked at the toast and it had burned into it an image of Obama's face, together with his date of birth. My father said, Have you got your camera with you? You should take a photograph of this, it's the proof that Obama is the messiah. So I got out my camera but I couldn't get it to focus. (Subconscious tech anxiety actuated no doubt by the fact that my Blackbook's HD crashed on Tuesday and I lost some photos that I had just taken that day and not backed up.)

Excuse me I should introduce myself. Mrs Hod and myself (an LGF lurker for many years) are Middle East and Central Asia researchers based in the UK. Because of the time zone difference, I have never been awake, let alone online, at any time LGF registration has been open, until we were in Istanbul (a couple of hours ahead of London) last month.
