During our lives we’re faced with so many elements as well, we experience so many setbacks, and fight such a hand-to-hand battle with failure, head down in the rain, just trying to stay upright and have a little hope.

i love it that lance stuck it to the frogs and owned their bike race for 7 consecutive years. they tested him like a lab rat and never found a spec of any illegal substances. they jobbed levi leipheimer just to punk lance...you don't take testoserone the night before a big race, as they accused and convicted levi of. that's a long term endurance enhancer. you take EPO the night before a big race, which was never detected in levi's blood. his ride up alp de huez was epic but now it's lost forever.

Muslim faith schools cause segregation, say teachers

Hell will freeze over before Muslim schools give children a liberal education, teachers were told today.

Faith schools threaten to cause religious segregation and must not be expanded, said Wesley Paxton from teachers' union Voice.

He suggested divisions like those seen in Northern Ireland between Protestant and Catholic communities could arise in England if more Islamic groups take over schools.

His remarks follow government moves to give religious groups a greater role in education through an expansion of academies and an offer of state funding for private Muslim schools.

WSJ has a piece on Obama and Pelosi's War of the Worlds

War of the Worlds
On Friday we noted some bizarre language in Barack Obama's Berlin speech: He kept addressing his audience as "People of the world," and he said, "This is the moment when we must come together to save this planet." Now Nancy Pelosi is getting into the sci-fi act. Politico reports the House speaker is citing threats from space in explaining why giving the Republican minority short shrift in legislative debates:

With fewer than 20 legislative days before the new fiscal year begins Oct. 1, the entire appropriations process has largely ground to a halt because of the ham-handed fighting that followed Republican attempts to lift the moratorium on offshore oil and gas exploration. And after promising fairness and open debate, Pelosi has resorted to hard-nosed parliamentary devices that effectively bar any chance for Republicans to offer policy alternatives.

"I'm trying to save the planet; I'm trying to save the planet," she says impatiently when questioned. "I will not have this debate trivialized by their excuse for their failed policy."

Today's New York Times, meanwhile, carries an op-ed by one Nick Pope arguing that America should take unidentified flying objects more seriously:

The United States is no less vulnerable than Britain and France to threats to security and air safety. The United States Air Force or the National Aeronautics and Space Administration should reopen investigations of U.F.O. phenomena. It would not imply that the country has suddenly started believing in little green men. It would simply recognize the possibility that radar alone cannot always tell us what's out there.

What can we say but Klaatu barada Nick Pope? It occurs to us, though, that maybe all this otherworldly talk is a diversion. Could it be that Barack Obama is secretly Martian? He does seem awfully green . . .

Coming to a theater near you: Obama and Pelosi as Pinky and The Brain.

Soros summit to mastermind profits of doom

With the City abuzz with rumours that billionaire speculator George Soros is staking a massive fortune the FTSE will plummet further, nerves will hardly be calmed by news of a recent family Soros gathering in Portugal.

According to my spy, plans were hatched with the entire Soros family present on how best to profit from the cooling off of the world economy. George Soros's nephew Peter (pictured, right) is said to be overseeing the London side of the family operation.

Well I have to say that Lance Armstrong is truly an example of someone who never quit, never gave in to his fears about the cancer and in so doing inspired all of us.

The fact that he beat the FRENCH on their home turf, in their own tournament, SEVEN times in a row, really is just icing on the cake and no, I'm not joking about that. He inspires all who are afflicted with cancer - all sorts of cancers - and for that he should always hold a place of honor and esteem in the hearts of all Americans and indeed all people throughout the world.

Obama's Global Tax

/read the whole thing, you're about to start paying for it

We already spend so much of our money propping up and helping the rest of the world:

- Our taxpayer funded military budget keeps the ENTIRE WORLD safe from wrongdoers and bad ideologies.

- Our taxes (needlessly) do most of the funding of the United Nations.

- The US government sends foreign aid overseas in massive quantities every year.

- Our government funds AIDS research, poverty programs, nutrition programs and more all over the world.

- Our private citizens donate billions to help people in poor countries.

- Etc.

But to Obama, that's not enough. He wants to take more of your taxes and hand it away to foreign countries, as a sort of "guilt-reducing bribe" due to our oppressive success.

And that's far and away the most G-rated picture in the entire folder.

In fact, the whole "flaccid" folder (what I'm editing now -- 154 photos) is pretty PG-rated. Next up: the "erect" folder (63 photos), and after that (four more levels) I can't even describe in public. 41 photos in the "ej@culation" folder alone.

All in all, over 600 pictures to sift through. And I've got to prune that down to 100 at most.

a good friend of mine felt a kidney stone start to pass down his urethra.

it was quite painful, but he was hopeful that it's passing would end the medical problems it had been causing......

and then it stopped, just short of the tip: you could see it, but it wasn't going any further.

so Nick, being Nick, pulled it the rest of the way out using a set of tweezers. the stone is now encased in resin, and he wears it around his neck as an amulet. it's about a half inch long, and the diameter of a #2 pencil.

Very weird news coming out of Pakistan/India this morning. I'm still trying to make some sense of it

C.I.A. Outlines Pakistan Links With Militants

Pakistani militants respond by kidnapping

30 Pakistani security personnel

and planting

18 bombs in Surat, known as India's diamond city

I'm thinking most of this mornings mayhem is simply the Pakistan government trying to squeez a nuclear deal out of the U.S. similar to the one made by India.

Pakistan expects from United States the similar kind of nuclear deal it made with India.

I just can't figure out how militants kidnapping 30 security personnel they are allied with furthers the Taliban cause.

I, too, used to admire Lance Armstrong. Then he abandoned his wife and small children for the sake of novel poontang.

Now, I think he is one step below pond scum.

I admit that I am hormonally ridden. That's cause I am a woman. That's why I know that women can be nutty as all get out but I don't care how nutty the woman you selected out of the crowd to breed with actually is, there are still ways to make things work so that you can stay in the home and help fully guide your offspring to stable and productive adult lives.

After you do that, go ahead and boink anything that moves. I won't say a word.

Nobody has to play "Name That Party" when a Republican get in trouble..

Indictment of Stevens adds to bleak GOP prospects
[Link: news.yahoo.com...]

WASHINGTON - The indictment of Alaska Republican Sen. Ted Stevens on charges that he lied about accepting gifts from an oil contractor only adds to his party's already bleak electoral prospects in November, and not simply because it could cost the GOP a Senate seat that should be safe.

While Stevens has vowed to fight charges and, through a spokesman, to move "full steam ahead" with his re-election bid, he's received little support from Alaska's Republican governor and no comment yet from his own GOP leader in the Capitol.

His indictment, though, could knock Republicans off message just as party leaders hoped to gain traction on one of the few issues in which voters solidly side with them: producing more domestic oil.

Stevens is the single most prominent advocate of oil drilling in protected areas, and charges that he took more than a quarter-million dollars worth of unreported gifts from oil services contractor Veco Corp. and its executives will play right into Democratic efforts to paint Republicans as a party captive to Big Oil.

/...I'm off to work.

In market news, the SEC has extended the limits on short selling it recently instituted.

SEC extends limits on naked short selling

LONDON (MarketWatch) -- The Securities and Exchange Commission has extended an order designed to prevent so-called naked short selling in stocks of major financial companies, including mortgage giants Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, for another two weeks.
The extension was announced by the federal agency late Tuesday. Originally a 10-day emergency order set to expire July 31, it now will run through Aug. 12 and won't be extended further, the SEC said.
Short sellers make money by borrowing stock they expect to fall in value, selling it, and then buying it back at a lower price, pocketing the difference.
Naked shorting occurs when traders haven't actually borrowed the shares they sell.
The extended rule requires any trader seeking to short the stocks to arrange to borrow the shares in advance of the sale.

The ability to do "naked short selling" in my opinion adds a layer of risky speculation to the market that is not wise. It's basically gambling.

I would hope that the SEC would just outright prohibit naked short selling. They also need to reinstitute the "uptick" rule, in which a short seller can not close out a short position by buying the stock back until the stock price ticks up. That discourages "bears" from pulling various shenannigans in the market (leaking rumors, etc) to scare people and force prices even lower.

A man who allegedly drove a sport utility vehicle during a brazen abduction of a 7-year-old girl in the Back Bay is cooperating with investigators, police said this afternoon.

The man, whose name has not been released, is helping authorities in their search for Clark Rockefeller and his daughter, Reigh Storrow Boss. Authorities located the black Chevy SUV this morning after a two-day search that stretched to New York and included the FBI. Investigators fear that Rockefeller may be trying to flee with the girl to Bermuda on his 72-foot yacht, Serenity.

SNIP

On Sunday afternoon, Rockefeller was in the middle of his first supervised visit with his daughter when he allegedly grabbed her, jumped into the black SUV, and sped off. Rockefeller faces charges that include custodial kidnapping.

SNIP

The visit was the first scheduled one since Rockefeller and his wife had divorced in December, police said. The child and Boss had come for the visit from London, where they live, police said.

The social worker, who was hired out of an independent agency, was there to supervise the visit, which is not unusual in divorce cases, according to a Probate Court official.

As the three walked down Marlborough Street, a man driving a black sport utility vehicle drove up beside them and stopped. Rockefeller shoved the social worker, grabbed his daughter, and jumped in the car. As the car sped off, the social worker tried to grab onto the vehicle and was dragged for several feet before the SUV disappeared down Berkeley Street.

Found this at Glenn Reynolds' joint. This is big.

U.S. Vehicle Miles Traveled down 3.7% compared to May '07.

China accounts for almost half of rising oil demand.

China alone accounts for about 40 percent of the world's recent increase in demand for oil, burning through twice as much now as it did a decade ago. Fifteen years ago, there were almost no private cars in the country. By the end of last year, the number had reached 15.2 million.

SUV sales are booming in China.

But in China, the number of SUVs sold rose 43 percent in May compared with the previous year, and full-size sedans were up 15 percent.

I see the subsidies in these other countries as doing us a favor. They are forcing us to begin moving away from oil before world oil production starts declining. We need that kick in the pants to get us going to make the adjustments and investments we need to do to start our move beyond the oil era.

May the saints preserve us from foreigners doing us favors. Though I note that this favor is unintended.

Ya know what? I'm just about this far away *thumb and forefinger held about a quarter-inch apart* from nominating Frank J. for POTUS.

Frank makes Democrats useful

So what exactly do the Democrats do all day? Being a congressman is supposed to be a full time job, but I can't imagine them actually filling their days considering voting on a bill once a week. Since we pay them salaries, why not have them do other, more useful jobs as well? They could be picking up trash all day, coordinate parking, and then give their little speeches and vote on their little bills in the late afternoon. There's a ton of useful stuff we could have them do. Like, for instance, drugs being held up by the FDA because of lack of human trials could be tested on congressional Democrats.

I could use one of those Congresscritters to weed the flowerbeds and pick up sticks blown out of the trees. Wouldn't want to trust one with power tools, though.

It's not all gambling in my opinion.

It's one thing to short sell a stock that you think is turly overpriced and heading for a down turn. That, in my view, is valid investment activity. As you say, since the stock would head down anyway, all you are doing is making the market more efficient this way.

It's quite another thing to artificially drive a stock price down via various chicanery and using naked short selling and the absence of the uptick rule. That is uncalled for.

I believe that naked short selling is damaging, as well as the absence of the uptick rule.

Senators need to get your letters and calls on this. Global Poverty Act (S. 2433). Stop stealing our money! Obama is trying to raise our taxes even before he gets in office. Imagine what he'll do if he actually gets in.

Obama's Global Poverty Act offers us a global socialist destiny we do not want, one that challenges America's very sovereignty. The former "post-racial" candidate obviously intends to be a post-national president.

A statement from Obama's office says: "With billions of people living on just dollars a day around the world, global poverty remains one of the greatest challenges and tragedies the international community faces. It must be a priority of American foreign policy to commit to eliminating extreme poverty and ensuring every child has food, shelter and clean drinking water."

These are worthy goals, but note there's no mention of spreading democracy, expanding free trade, promoting entrepreneurial capitalism or ridding the world of despots who rule and ravage countries such as Zimbabwe and Sudan.

This is one Congressional Bill I can certainly give my wholehearted approval too (considering it was an idea in my first post on the traitorous Boumediene Opinion):

You are viewing the following version of this bill:

Introduced in House: This is the original text of the bill as it was written by its sponsor and submitted to the House for consideration.

Text of Legislation
HR 6615 IH

110th CONGRESS

H. R. 6615

To provide for the transport of the enemy combatants detained in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to Washington, DC, where the United States Supreme Court will be able to more effectively micromanage the detainees by holding them on the Supreme Court grounds, and for other purposes.

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

July 24, 2008

Mr. GOHMERT introduced the following bill;

A BILL

To provide for the transport of the enemy combatants detained in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to Washington, DC, where the United States Supreme Court will be able to more effectively micromanage the detainees by holding them on the Supreme Court grounds, and for other purposes.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ‘Giving Inmate Terrorists More Opportunities (GITMO) Act of 2008’.

SEC. 2. FINDINGS.
Congress finds the following:

(1) The United States Supreme Court issued an opinion styled Boumediene v. Bush on June 12, 2008.

(2) Justice Anthony Kennedy, in the court’s majority opinion, held that foreign terrorism suspects held at the Guantanamo Bay naval base in Cuba have constitutional rights to challenge their detention in United States courts.

(3) This is an obvious effort on the part of the Supreme Court to micromanage the detainment and disposition of detainees in the War on Terror who are dedicated to destroying innocent people and the American way of life.

(4) The United States Supreme Court clearly needs increased opportunity to oversee the handling of the enemy combatants, as it has seen fit to take a greater role in managing the Global War on Terror, which is a duty previously exercised by the Executive Branch.

(5) There can be no better way for the United States Supreme Court to exercise its new self-appointed war powers than to house the prisoners whom it has taken a greater role in overseeing.

SEC. 3. TRANSPORTATION AND DETAINMENT OF ENEMY COMBATANTS.

(a) Transportation- The Secretary of Defense shall immediately transport all enemy combatants detained in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to Washington, DC, where the United States Supreme Court shall hold the prisoners on the Court grounds, confined by adequate fencing.

(b) Shelter on Supreme Court Building Grounds- The Secretary of Defense, in conjunction with Justice Anthony Kennedy, the author of the majority opinion in Boumediene v. Bush, is directed to provide shelter for the detainees outside the United States Supreme Court building, but on the building grounds. The Secretary of Defense shall provide guards to watch over the prisoners and shall implement a system to ensure that the prisoners receive the appropriate amount of food and water. Should the detainees need the use of restroom facilities, they shall use the facilities inside the United States Supreme Court building. The Chief Justice, if the Chief Justice so chooses, may perform the duties of Justice Anthony Kennedy under this subsection.

(c) Guard Duty- If any of the nine Supreme Court justices desire at any time to stand guard over the prisoners, or to provide the prisoners with their meals or water, or both, then the justices shall be permitted to perform these functions whenever they want.

Part 2 of Rep Gomert's Bill:

SEC. 4. ENFORCEMENT.

If either the Secretary of Defense or any justice of the Supreme Court refuses to carry out their duties under this Act, then their respective department or court shall receive funding for the next fiscal year at half the level of funding appropriated for the current fiscal year, or until such time as the Supreme Court no longer desires to micromanage the prisoners who have sworn to destroy our way of life.

WHY MEN ARE NEVER DEPRESSED:

Men Are Just Happier People--

Your last name stays put.
The garage is all yours.
Wedding plans take care of themselves.
Chocolate is just another snack.
You can never be pregnant.
Car mechanics tell you the truth.
The world is your urinal.
You never have to drive to another petrol station restroom because this one is just too icky.
You don't have to stop and think of which way to turn a nut on a bolt.
Same work, more pay.
Wrinkles add character.
People never stare at your chest when you're talking to them.
New shoes don't cut, blister, or mangle your feet.
One mood all the time.

Phone conversations are over in 30 seconds flat.
You know stuff about tanks and engines.
A five-day vacation requires only one suitcase.
You can open all your own jars.

But the Bears do not think that there is a quarterback issue.

Tehy don't even know what the position is. The organization has never understood it and it's importance in the NFL today. You can't play defense anymore in the NFL, the name of the game is to throw and score a lot of touchdowns by passing. You need a good QB, a decent offensive line and fast receivers to do that.

Maybe in another 20 or 30 years the Bears front office will figure that out. But until then they will focus ont he defense and kicking game.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.

I'm voting Democrat because freedom of speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it.

I'm voting Democrat because when we pull out of Iraq I trust that the bad guys will stop what they're doing because they now think we're good people.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe that people who can't tell us if it will rain on Friday CAN tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in ten years if I don't start driving a Prius.

I'm voting Democrat because I'm not concerned about the slaughter of millions of babies so long as we keep all death row inmates alive.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as THEY see fit.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe three or four pointy headed elitist liberals need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would NEVER get their agendas past the voters.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe that when the terrorists don't have to hide from us over there, they’ll come over here, and I don't want to have any guns in the house to shoot them with.

I'm voting Democrat because I love the fact that I can now marry whatever I want. I've decided to marry my horse.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn't.

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet (too lazy to go through 39 spinoff links) but:

U.S. confronts Pakistan on links to militants: report
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A top Central Intelligence Agency official traveled to Islamabad and confronted senior officials with evidence of ties between Pakistan's spy agency and militants operating in that country's tribal areas, the New York Times reported in Wednesday editions.

The CIA envoy presented information linking members of Pakistan's Directorate for Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) with some militant groups responsible for a string of attacks including the suicide bombing of the Indian Embassy in Kabul this month which killed 58 people, the newspaper said.

The report, based on accounts by U.S. military and intelligence officials, described the decision to confront Pakistan over ISI's activities as the bluntest warning to Islamabad since shortly after the September 11, 2001 attacks.

It was published a day after Pakistani Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani visited the White House and made a commitment to U.S. President George W. Bush to secure Pakistan's border with Afghanistan.

The New York Times said the CIA assessment specifically raised links between ISI members and the militant network led by Maulavi Jalaluddin Haqqani, believed by the U.S. intelligence community to have close ties to senior al Qaeda figures in Pakistan's tribal areas.

On Monday I posted a ling to an op-ed written by Stephen Lewis accusing the president of Suadan, Omar Hassan al-Bashir of crimes against humanity. Today, in the letters to the editor section, was this response:

Let him who is without sin

FAIZA HASSAN TAHA
Sudanese ambassador
July 30, 2008

Ottawa -- I cannot confirm or deny the incidents of the meetings with our President, Omar Hassan al-Bashir, as described by Stephen Lewis (I Too Accuse Him Of Crimes Against Humanity - July 28). I, as an ambassador, don't have the other story from the President's or the Foreign Minister's side. It also really astonishes me to find that someone such as Mr. Lewis, who was a high representative of the UN, can give himself all the jurisdictions of a prosecutor and a judge in the case of Mr. al-Bashir. One should ask Mr. Lewis: Does your article itself not constitute a violation of a basic principle of human rights that a person is innocent until proven guilty?

Mr. al-Bashir's defenders, and they are many, are repeating what Jesus said: "Let him who is without sin cast the first stone." Some refer to the crimes committed against humanity in the recent history, some to the colonial time, and others to the genocide against the first nations. Although justice is indispensable for all, it is also indivisible.

Even the annexations of Darfur (carried out by the British between 1874 and 1917) and southern Sudan (between 1874 and 1896) were resisted vigorously, with thousands of Darfurians and southern Sudanese dying in that resistance.

Note that the spokesthug of the Islamofascist regime of Sudan, begins his letter with a quote from Jesus. He uses the predictable defense of characterizing his accuser as "prosecutor & judge". The ambassador must be a student of Chomsky, as he throws in the anti-colonial talking points. Classy.

re: #296 tfc3rid Good morining to you my friend! Did you say reparations? Well here's a little "mini-rant" I posted on the prior thread about reparations:
Part One:
Reparations are BULLSHIT. Period.
First of all, slavery ended in 1865. So no White person who was born after the end of the Civil War, no White person who's ancestors came to the US after the Civil War, and most assuredly, no white person who's ancestors FOUGHT for the UNION side should have to pay reparations of any kind.
Moreover, any Black person who thinks they deserve reparations due to Slavery here, must first prove that he or she is a descendant of someone who was in fact a slave (Carribean Blacks don't qualify) and must deduct the amount of money he or she and his or her ancestors derived from receiving welfare or other governmental funds (except for GI Benefits) from the amount anyone could possibly squeeze out of whatever White folks' ancestors owned slaves, or fought for the South in the Civil War. And, just as with Obama's winning POTUS, no more affirmative action, no more "extra credit" in hiring, no more "racial harrassment at work" lawsuits and no more Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton talking down at us or talking at all for that matter.
Reparations is a farce."

317 realwest  Wed, Jul 30, 2008 6:15:17am

re: #316 realwest
Reparations Part Deux:
"Oh and the term "Native Americans" must be expunged from use and dictionaries as they came here from either Asia or Europe, depending on whom you believe. Moreover, The Apache, Commanche and Crow, amongst others, deserve reparations from the Sioux, the Cheyenne and the other LARGER tribes which pushed the Apache, et.al. off of the Great Plains into the arid Southwestern United States, to fulfill the Sioux, et.al.'s "Manifest Destiny".

Obama's Symbolic Importance

In his closed door meeting with House Democrats this evening, presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama delivered a real zinger. According to a witness, he was waxing lyrical about last week's trip to Europe, when he concluded, "this is the moment, as Nancy [Pelosi] noted, that the world is waiting for."

The 200,000 souls who thronged to his speech in Berlin came not just for him, he told the enthralled audience of congressional representatives.

"I have become a symbol of the possibility of America returning to our best traditions," he said.

There are many places that provide contacts, I use this one:

You can scroll through the postings, find a group and then their military mailing address is e-mailed to you.

It's sometimes funny, sometimes heartbreaking to see what they ask for. Clearly getting very hot in Iraq and Afghanistan, and some of the outposts are really out in remote areas.

Police defused 18 bombs found near the main diamond markets in the city of Surat and issued a sketch of a young man believed to be linked to one of two explosives-filled cars discovered there.

Two of the cars found today, and two used in the prior bombings, were apparently stolen from a Mumbai suburb in July.

Greets and saluts from the NYC metro area. Indian authorities must be high alert after yet another bunch of bombs were discovered in a marketplace and disarmed. 18 of them in fact.

Two of the cars found today, and two used in the prior bombings, were apparently stolen from a Mumbai suburb in July.

They've been on high alert for a while...

Apparently the latest spate of violence in India is very unusual because it is very consistent, occurs in very "innocuous" areas, and seems much more random than past violence there. It's led to a suspicious and vigilant society.

I am glad they found these 18 (wow, thats a LOT) bombs before they could go off.

Captive Miranda, Lord knows I have not given a thought to the paperwork you sent me.

Let me tell you, Captive, that our release is not in the hands of the lawyers or the hands of America. Our release is in the hands of He who created us.

The poem, "To My Captive Lawyer, Miranda," was written by Abdullah Saleh Al-Ajmi while he was a detainee at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. No doubt, it would have given the former detainee, who was released in 2005, immense satisfaction to know that his last earthly deed was referenced in Justice Antonin Scalia's dissenting opinion in Boumediene v. Bush. That's the recent Supreme Court decision that gave Guantanamo detainees the constitutional right to challenge, in habeas corpus proceedings, whether they were properly classified by the military as enemy combatants.

Wasn't it the Democratic Party that passed all the Jim Crow laws down south and, at least in Urban Areas, wasn't it the Democratic Party that helped keep Black people on the dole so they could continue to keep getting Black voters to vote Democratic by simply increasing the amount of the dole every election cycle and who also prevented or at least strongly discouraged Blacks from bettering themselves?

John Ibbitson is such a drooling Obama fanatic, he doesn't even realize how terrifying his latest pro-bama op-ed sounds:

He almost blew up the world, but Kennedy learned - so would Obama

For 13 days in October, 1962, the planet stared at annihilation, partly because John F. Kennedy had performed so poorly as president.

Kennedy moved from the Senate to the Oval Office with none of the on-the-job training a president requires. That inexperience led him to authorize the never-had-a-chance Bay of Pigs fiasco.

He then let Nikita Khrushchev beat him up verbally at a Cold War summit, which left the American president so shaken that Khrushchev told his advisers he actually felt sorry for his outmatched rival.

Kennedy's inexperience and weakness led the Soviet leader to take the enormous risk of establishing nuclear missile sites in Cuba. Khrushchev gambled that Kennedy lacked the backbone to go to war over them...

But at the worst of the crisis, the American president calculated there was about a 50-per-cent chance of a nuclear exchange between the Soviet Union and the United States. That's how close we came.

Barack Obama, if elected, would become president with virtually no top-tier experience in government. America's enemies will try to exploit that weakness. There will be challenges, provocations, perhaps even terrorist attacks.

Mr. Obama may not respond well, at first. He will still be discovering which advisers he can trust; he may not yet have taken the full measure of his own strengths and weaknesses.

But if he is willing and able to learn, he will improve with time. No amount of experience can fully prepare anyone for the American presidency. To some extent, everyone learns on the job.

Wow! Obama might blow up the world, but think of how good we'll feel having elected him. This might be a new level of stupidity.

re: #388 StinkHammer

Yes, quite telling. Mere disagreement is not pungent enough -- opposition from the morally righteous Left requires loathing and categorizing as aberrant or sub-human somehow. Pathetic.

The Left (and Barbarians in general) need to control productive people to assure their own survival and well being. Anything less than total submission has to be seen as an act akin to attempted murder. And thus it is no surprise that Lefties will respond viciously to criticism.

If Conservatives dealt with the adherents of Libéralisme Moderne the way the Left has dealt with humans in general whenever the Left has obtained unrestrained power, there wouldn't be any Liberals left standing. Of the universities and the urban centers of Liberalism there would be nothing left but smoking ruins, and there would mass graves from coast to coast.

In my own view the present day Left, like the unschooled barbarians who plagued civilization before them, are essentially parasites. If the Hun or the Mongol were to take "no" for an answer to their demands for food and other material goods they would die very quickly. Compulsion, taking things and persons by force, is inherently necessary to the parasite manner of existence. Those who resisted had to be killed as an object lesson for others.

The Left, the present-day literate post-marxian barbarians, not only need material support they also need spiritual support as well. Barbarian chieftains and tribal witch-doctors demanded degrading and often dangerous acts of worship from their subjects, up to and including human sacrifice, in order to assure themselves that they would still have a roof (or a tent) over their heads and food to eat the next day. Those refused to obey were worked over by the goon squad or simply killed.

In the classrooms and editorial offices of the Left the demand is for unquestioned agreement without regard to the actual facts of reality. The self-styled intellectuals of the Left are the first to demand “speech codes” and other forms of censorship lest they be identified as frauds and poseurs and subsequently bounced out of their comfortable ivory towers, no longer insulated from a real world that demands real thought and real labor.

The Left, being dependent upon others for their sustenance, must stand in opposition to the society of rational consent and openly support systems of compulsion, be it various species of Socialism or the witch-doctor rule of Islam, because to do otherwise is to condemn themselves to death.

Of course, in my view, if the Left would just die it would be nice.

Did the Dems and Republicans switch sides on the political spectrum? Well one of 'em did; they are now the party of socialists and appeasement. Truman would be ashamed of his party (as would John and Bobby Kennedy, I fear).
AFAIK, the Republicans: fought to keep the United States United and a sovereign nation and have been more or less hawkish on that same issue since 1860.

You're right, Sammy - we have no damn idea what his platform is except for "hope" & "change"!

And if he gets elected despite that, I'm probably gonna "drink!" myself to death. (;

re: #397 FrogMarch

Not surprising, though. The left-democrat group-think is all about making sure everyone is in the "club".

Jon Voight gets a hearty bravo! from me. Takes courage to rage against the hollywood machine. He may never work again. Meanwhile, I don't have the courage to place a McCain bumper sticker on my car. (Certain that the tolerant left will key-scratch it.)

In 04, I had three Bush stickers ripped off and my car scratched.

Unless McCain picks Mitt, I think I'll put something anti-Obama on my car instead.

Nah, why don't you tell us how the Sioux moved West (and what part of the East were the Sioux from in the first place?)?

re: #406 StinkHammer

That's the fundamental strategic tactic being utilized throughout the Democratic Left and its minions: "If you don't vote for Obama, you're a racist -- whether you know it or not."

It will most assuredly become the standard meme if The Saviour happens to lose the election: "Racist America Defeats Black Candidate."

Then go ahead and prepare those racist allegations about me.

What Stinkhammer at #406 said.

Yeah, I get that.

But I think Samuel L Jackson is pointing that out in the quote... not supporting it.

He is indicating that for many Americans (i.e. libs and Dems), race is more important than anything else.

Good point Les, except AFAIK, the total of all the various offshoots of Socialism is twice that number- and counting.

I don't want to cut the enemy any slack but 100 million is more believable than 200 million.

One thing history class is not afraid to explain is how the Democrats were pro-slavery and how Democratic Party machines were in charge of inner city areas during the early 1900s. Then things changed, which would take too long to "explain in the post."

The hardest lesson I had to learn in school though was when the "non-conformists" were in control, you either had to conform or face the consequences.

I'm hip. There's no way -- realizing the impetuous vandalization in which much of the left indulges out of "tolerance" and "understanding" -- that I'd risk my car's finish by emblazoning it with anything symbolically right of, say, "Coexist" or "Envision World Peace" stickers. Especially with the newly-opened local Obama campaign center located directly below my apartment.

Here's a stunner, Amy Winehouse in and out of hospital again for drugs.

Amy Winehouse released from hospital

Winehouse was rushed to University College Hospital in an ambulance on Monday night (July 28) after she apparently started having fits at her home in Camden, north London.

Commenting on her release from hospital, Winehouse's spokesperson Chris Goodman said: "She had a bit of a scare yesterday because of a reaction to treatment. She was kept in overnight purely for observation. Amy is at home now after leaving with her father and manager. She is having a rest."

Some "reaction to treatment". If snorting blow qualifies for "treatment" then there are junkies all over in "treatment".
