Tech Note: Safari 2 Snafu?

Fri, Aug 1, 2008 at 5:15:56 pm PDT

I’ve received a few emails from Mac users who are still running version 2 of the Safari web browser with Mac OS 10.4, saying that Safari is crashing at LGF. I’ll check into it, but the best way to get it working immediately is to upgrade to version 3 of Safari, which also works well under Mac OS 10.4: Apple Safari 3.1.2 software download. It’s a better browser than version 2 in many ways, so it’s worth doing the upgrade anyway.

I love this man, he will help us all jump ship when we should.
no flip flops here.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said Friday
he would be willing to support limited additional offshore oil drilling
if that's what it takes to enact a comprehensive policy to foster fuel-efficient autos and develop alternate energy sources.

Shifting from his previous opposition to expanded offshore drilling, the Illinois senator told a Florida newspaper he could get behind a compromise with Republicans and oil companies to prevent gridlock over energy.

Nope.. I've had isues with ie7.. It doesn't properly run Oracle 11i.

I don't use IE7 anymore - using firefox and once I got accustomed to the differences, I found it to be much much much better.

I have found it to be in my best interest that when I'm having difficulties or I'm in doubt about computer stuff, check what the kids are doing - and firefox is what my daughter and her friends are using.

re: #16 reine.de.tout

I was on the Firefox bandwagon for a while. It's pretty solid. When IE7 came out I switched over and so far it's been pretty good. Unfrotuately when you also invest in other MS products like SharePoint and Office 07, they work best with IE7

I'm a tech-whore. I find life way too short to get geeky over Linux vs. Windows etc.

Side note: I didn't know that Instapundint is hosted on PJ Media. I'm wondering if any other PJ sites are acting up.

I told him that Obama is a flip flopper extraordinaire but it's not covered because of press bias (gasp!) I knew it was a lost cause when he told me CNN is less biased than Fox.

Some of the local moonbats really love the Blues. /

Michael Johns: "So, the Blue Angels are deafening, polluting, child and pet terrorizing war machines that cause gridlock and cost many thousands in taxpayer money. And what was the good part of it again? I am so over these guys."

Frank Hanstick: "How much 'poetry in motion' would (there be) if you watched those aircraft to what they were designed...to do...Maybe you'd enjoy it as the...bombs glide downward before they hit a school...How about the poetry in motion of human body parts dancing in the air?"

Because of the "technology gap" - let them show all 'y'all stuff - and install it. If you think they are wrong - that is why the "Remove Program" stuff exsists.

Oh, I do!

The first job I ever had (and I will date myself here) was working with PUNCH CARDS.

Then it was key-to-tape, then when we were able to do updates via CRT, that was a huge deal! Then came real-time updating via CRT.

And of course, things have progressed from there and I have pretty much kept up. But those kids seem to know everything.

In 1986, while in the USAF I helped operate an old UNIVAC mainframe replete with tape servos, punch cards, punch card readers, drum memory, and toggle switches (It took 45 minutes to boot up). All of the programming was done in Assembler, and when the mainframe pukes it would spit out hundreds of pages of a core dump, all in hex.

good times... good times.

When the 3/5th deployed to Fallujah Jordan called us..at like 4 in the morning and said..'pops..1st platoon want to rent a beachhouse in oceanside when we get home..will you cover the logistics of it?'
of course we did and rented a place for 2 weeks for thier return.
Well everytime they were supposed to say..roger or whatever on the walkie talkies they all would end with 'beachhouse'
they kept getting in trouble but no big deal..finally one night during a blackout comm night..somebody( jordan) got on the radio and whispered..beachhouse..
1st platoon had to carry hundreds of sandbags the next day and they learned thier lession..but boy did we have a great laugh about it when they came home..

I.E. 6 is holding designers back from creating beautiful and functional sites. It was designed by morons that chose not to follow the rules and doesn't work correctly.

I was in the DP end as well. Just a two year tour that was pure hell (punching cards flying all over the place because someone forgot to put the weight at the end of the stack, core dumps from hell, and tape servos eating up tapes-felt really bad for the Field Engineers); the only time worse was the 10 months I spent in Saudi Arabia.

One thing I will say - I credit those cards (and later the key-to-tape), with giving me a heck of a skill - I can type, accurately, at close to 100 wpm.

Those days, typing was a skill girls learned in HS in case they needed a skill for a job.

Nowadays - typing is called "keyboarding", and is a critical skill for everybody.

Spent almost all of Oct-March 91-92 in the middle of a God forsaken desert before being reassigned to ARCENT Hq in Riyadh. Even back then, the Saudis had a hatred for the Infidels that boggled the mind. I only went into that POS city once (on my way to the airfield to fly back to Germany). The place was filled with police armed with Uzi's, the women were not allowed out of the cars in public. G2 briefed us never to speak to anyone who was not a policeman. The State Department rarely could get anyone out of jail once the system nabbed them. The crazy thing is the entire country is filled with foreigners who do all of the work. The Saudis are incapable of doing anything for themselves.

Anybody gone on record discussing the Designer Vagina yet?

Women jump on the fashion bandwagon faster than the speed of lightening: whether it's clothing, makeup or hairstyles...tattoos, etc. etc. The boob job craze did a real number on millions of women, now the Vagina...? Why are women so insecure.

It's a desperate sick act. I think I'm in the labia majora on this one.

111 Xenobyte  Sat, Aug 2, 2008 2:45:10am

Hehe... I feel old around here... I was using XMosaic at the university when it just came out around 1992-93 and then switched to Netscape 1.1N when that came out (1994 I think it was)... Been on the Netspace bandwagon from then on until Firefox was spawned and then switched down that road.

Also, since Opera came out I kept that as well, following it from version 1 (it had tabbed browsing already back then!) to now version 9.5. I was a registered user as well back when it required registration to avoid ads in the browser itself.

Did Al Gore work for CERN back then? - Because as far as I can tell it was them that invented the so-called 'modern web-based internet' by inventing XMosaic and the server counterpart, so if he invented it as he claimed he must have been working there... although it's rather unlikely as CERN only employs people in their development divisions with a certain intelligence and Mr. Gore obviously never filled that requirement...

This page loads find on all of my hackintoshes, both 10.4.X and 10.5.X kerneled machines, regardless of the version of safari they have. Speaking of Apple products, is there anyone here good at writing kernel extensions (.kext) for non-Mac graphics processors?

I've got 10.5.2 running on a Sony Viao, but the GMA 3100 kexts Apple released don't work on the GMA 3100 that sony uses. Tried cutting and pasting Sony hardware IDs into the Apple kexts, but no dice. I also can't get the factory apple kexts to recognize the nvidia 8800 GTX in my buddies alienware, so there are no Alientoshes in the immediate future.

The $800 Sony is faster than a $1400 genuine Apple. :)

Charles,

There's are bugs in jQuery 1.2.5+ that can cause Safari 2 to crash. It's not clear what triggers it but WordPress has had this problem since upgrading from earlier versions of jQuery.
