It is amazing how many S.F. Comical readers think Obama is a centrist. They're citing all of his "mainstream" positions - voted for FISA, supports the war, etc. thinking that he actually supports these. Wow.

This video is good, but doesn't even begin to approach just how far to the left the media will go for Obama. Many will treat today's energy speech as though it is the Second Coming, even though it's a rehash and retread of what Obama has had on his campaign website for months, and is a repeat of Carter's failed economic and energy policies.
Those that don't will find themselves on the short end of the bus.

Israel should padlock the crossing gate then brick it up and make clear that they have nothing to do with the people in Gaza. If a shot comes from Gaza Israel should have hundreds of artillery tubes ready to respond instantly with counter battery fire. If Gazans can follow the minimal rules that even Egypt wants to enforce then they have another way to contact the world. An vessel going in or out should be searched by Israel for contraband, otherwise let it go. Air traffic should be prohibited.

I just got the following message sent to my "YouTube" account. I thought everyone here would enjoy it. A definite "We got mail!" moment:
--------------
zombietime, I'd like to have a chat with you.
I am a liberal. I do not agree with some of the crazy political ideas the left/progressive might have.
However, I am very much anti-Israel. Israel do not deserve to exist. It was founded on terrorism (Irgun, Stern Gang, etc).
Israel is antagonistic to world peace, and that is why there is Islamic uprising against Israel and U.S. for constant geopolitical meddling. Israel needs oil to feed itself. Israel is one of the prime motives for Iraq war.
Israel Zionists have had a hand in 9/11 inside job. Dismiss all you want, you are a deluded human being. I've done my research and it's Israel, with assistance of Neoconservatives, who committed high crimes of treason and sabotage.
Why don't you read George Washington's 1796 farewell address regarding future entanglement between the U.S. and a foreign power? This is a proof and a warning that have been wantonly dismissed and ignored.
You're a member of Little Green Footballs. I wrote the essay "The Inevitability of Self-Destruction: The Decline and Death of Israel", which I am glad to have offended so many bleating sheeple idiots.
When the war comes to Iran, U.S. and Israel will not survive for long. U.S. has entered a fascist phase as a corpocrat plutocrat state ruled by the Establishment since JFK was murdered by the military-industrial complex combine (Pentagon-CIA) in collusion with State of Israel.
When there is a global war declared on Imperial US and Zionist regime, remember three words: Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
zombietime, screw you for your unbalanced representation in the photography work with ridiculous and flippant commentaries typical of right-wing extremities.
DEATH TO ISRAEL.

Then I made the mistake of checking out his YouTube user's page. Ay Caramba!

Just reminds us that the entire narrative 'bible' of the masses had been shaped by the politics of the fifth column MSM and its operatives - at least before the intrusion of the internet.
Bruce Bauer has done a fabulous job in his book 'While Europe Slept' drawing distinctions between the innate beliefs and principles of the majority of native born middle-age to older Europeans, and how their voting patterns had been influenced by the elites and the press. They'd been cowed by being defined by the upper classes as bumpkins if their values were not that of the elites. This has been somewhat reversed with the latest elections in Germany, France, Britain and Italy but not before the continent has taken a lot of damage to its vitality and growth.
I still get steamed everytime the news comes on my talk stations here in NJ - the top AP driven story is always a cherrypicked, anecdotal editorial yarn about the effect of the 'disastrous Bush economy' on some poor family, elderly couple, or mother struggling to feed her kids. No mention of the explosive growth that taken place before the current corrections, not the unemployment levels of years past, including in the Clinton era.

Can't necessarily compare the two. Sounds like Novak's cancer is even more severe than that of Kennedy, who's recovering from his surgical treatment.
I think they are both quite severe. It is just that the Senate has such arcane rules. In addition while the honorable thing to do would be to step aside and let a healthy man or women assume the reswponsiblilites of representing their state, that concept never seems to occur to these power hungry people.

----------------Then I made the mistake of checking out his YouTube user's page. Ay Caramba!
He sounds like a total anti-Semite.

Reminds me. About 20 years ago I almost bought a '67 Camaro convertable. Beautiful car in near mint condition. Unfortunately the price tag was a little too high. I got talking to the guy though and he told me that some 17 year old kid had come and looked at it and was going to buy it. They went into the house to write up the paperwork and the kid started talking about putting mags on it and souping up the engine and all this other stuff. The guy threw the kid out of his house and told him he wasn't going to ruin his car. Beautiful.

I just checked the financial news over at Yahoo. Oil has dropped another 4 dollars or so today. Embedded in the story is the note that Barry O has called for releasing oil from the strategic petroleum reserve, implying that this is one of the reasons for the drop.
Not once in the last two weeks of oil prices dropping was it ever mentioned that oil price drops coincided with announcments by the Administration that the moritorium on offshore oil drilling had been rescinded or other bullish statements calling for increased drilling of our domestic resources. They completely attribute the price drop to market forces.

OT : anyone with a bent towards seeking out eco-hypocrites, this database is very helpful.
It is the FAA aircraft registry and the page I linked is a result of the search for "Gulfstream" aircraft.
Select a model and click on a state (or total to see details regardless of state) and you get to see who owns what kinds of Gulfstreams.
Like David Geffen, Jim Carey, Oprah and the current president of the Carter Center (yes - Jimmy Carter's advocacy center, which has a LOT to say about global warming).
Some of the registrants will try to hide who they are with odd names of an LLC which simply owns the plane - but sometimes those names give them away (like "Virtucon" in San Diego - likely to be either Mike Meyers). Others are through banks (when you see a bank name and "trustee" then it is an individual who doesn't want you to know.)
But plenty are there, including corporations that want to beat you green with smugness yet fly these things around (like EBay - why do they need a jet - to deliver second hand shit?)
Happy hunting.

re: #158 Mars Needs Neocons Wow, well that's a relief! Knowing that some lunatic (not to prejudge or anything!) could attack your spouse, friend or relative, hack them to pieces, cut off their head and eat part of them won't have to face First Degree Murder Charges - yeah, that'd satisfy me ok.
We have criminal laws for many reasons. Some include the (hopeful) deterrence to anyone from committing the crime and others.
But one of the philosophic reasons behind criminal law is to show "the people" that justice is being served to avoid "the people" from taking the law into their own hands.
This case doesn't satisfy that reason by a long shot.

What scares me is that the substance of the letter has become acceptable in academia. Not representative of a majority, mind you, but acceptable discourse worthy of serious consideration.

Beautiful.
Now THAT guy has his head screwed on properly. I'd have probably shot the kid. Oh, wait, he was a 17-year-old kid! My bad.

Now is it possible that a video editor at CNN can do their job and then go home and scrawl stuff this hateful? Sure it is and the problem is that it gets easier for the angry and dysfunctional to express in public views that would have meant self destruction 50 years ago. The French Ambassador gets away with calling Israel a "shitty little country" and the cast of the View can say things that should result in unemployment and a week in the happy house.

Someone should create a Green Wall of Shame! But they most certainly are the same as the Blame America First Crowd.

Iran tests 'new anti-ship weapon'
Revolutionary Guards commander Gen Mohammad Ali Jafari did not say where or when the new weapon was tested or what kind of technology it used.
"The weapon has been developed entirely using domestic technology and according to our information so far no country has used this technology before," Gen Jafari said.
"We can confidently say that none of the enemy's vessels or warships operating in a radius of more than 300km from Iran's borders will be safe from this weapon, and without a doubt, they will be sunk deep into the region's waters."

You can have bone grafts done to stabilize the supporting structure around a tooth, depending upon the type of bone lose that case presents. From talking to realwest in the past, I don't get the impression that is the problem with his tooth. Just my impressions from a far as a practicing dentist for the last 28 years.

The statutes governing treason like any laws can be abused.
But Kerry running over to Paris collaborating with the enemy & Jane Fonda going over to North Vietnam to comfort the enemy, really left no reasonable room for interpretation
The problem with Kerry was that he was on terminal leave but still officially on active duty as a naval officer when he went to Paris and met the North Vietnamese. What Fonda did was reprehensible but probably not legally actionable.
My Code of Conduct lecture at OCS Newport was from a Captain Dick Stratton, a gentleman who was a guest in the Hanoi Hilton. For those who do not know Code of Conduct is what to do when captured, Standards of Conduct is another required talk about what to do when working around a potential object of emotional or sexual involvement. At one point in his talk CAPT Stratton referred to "That whore Jane Fonda" I remembered his lecture.

Actually I'm pretty sure that Fonda could have been busted under the providing aid and comfort clause. It wasn't quite as blatant as Ted Kennedy's actions with the Soviets during Reagans admin, but it was still bad. She provided propaganda opportunities to the NV's which IIRC is blatantly illegal. HAVE they found poo on the Red Planet?
The excitement has been triggered by a report in the journal Aviation Week that the space agency alerted the White House to "major new Phoenix lander discoveries concerning the 'potential for life' ".
Jon Clarke, a geologist with Mars Society Australia, a group dedicated to Martian exploration, said the report had triggered a frenzy of interest. "Chat groups are all speculating about what it is," Dr Clarke said. "We have had emails flying backwards and forwards. Something is certainly in the breeze."
.....
Asked to speculate yesterday on what it may have now found, Dr Clarke said the instrument was designed, among other things, to spot dissolved ammonium and nitrate salts."On Earth, if you have a lot of ammonium and nitrate it usually means there is organic activity. We excrete it as waste and other organisms use it."

IT BEGAN with a mango three years ago. A member of Gaza's powerful Masri clan had stopped to buy fruit at a roadside stall in 2005, but the vendor did not have enough small change to break his 20 shekel note - equal to $5.
The Masri man pulled a gun and killed the vendor, who was a member of the Abu Taha clan.
By the end of last year, the ensuing feud had claimed the lives of 29 people - 10 from neither clan. Sixty had been wounded and homes and businesses on both sides had been torched.
"We want to kill one more to be equal," a member of the Abu Taha clan told a researcher for International Crisis Group. But then the toll moved to 10 Abu Taha and 11 Masris dead - and the Masris vowed revenge.

They were yakking about this last year also. Some sort of air cavity torpedo. Able to get to about 100kts. Even if it is real (the theory says it can be done) it is not a guided weapon. Just like the WWI and WWII torpedo's, its a point and shoot and hope you aimed right. And I really can't see us letting them sit there and start shooting these things at us.
Not very effective unless/until the "turning problem" is solved. When the torpedo tries to turn, the hypercavitation (the ensonified zone around the torpedo) is lost on one side and friction slows it down again. Great for shooting in a straight line, but you'd have to be shootin' 'em in the lips to be halfway effective.
Still, somebody will solve the problem. Then some jerkwad will sell it to the Russians/Chinese and Iran will get their hands on it, and...

Palestinian Brothers in Gaza Illegally Donate to Obama $29K
JERUSALEM, Aug 04, 2008 /PRNewswire-USNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Palestinian brothers inside the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip are listed in government election filings as having donated $29,521.54 to Sen. Barack Obama's campaign, according to WorldNetDaily's Jerusalem bureau chief, Aaron Klein.
The donations would violate election laws, including prohibitions on receiving donations from foreigners and guidelines against accepting more than $2,300 from one individual during a single election, Bob Biersack, a spokesman for the Federal Election Commission, said in response to a query.
The contributions also raise numerous questions about the Obama campaign's lax online donation form, which apparently allows for the possibility of foreign contributions.

Also there is the start up period. Apparently it takes some time to get the weapon up to speed because the air injection takes time to build up the cavity in front of it, and it is extremely noisy at that point. Pretty much saying at the weapons launch that you have just been targeted and if you take evasive action now, it will miss. A simple emergency reverse with left or right rudder and it most likely miss you. Janes had some articles on it a few years or so ago and implied it would be another 5-10 years before it would be practical.
