One of Saudi Arabia’s arbiters of sharia law has been arrested in Dubai for possession of drugs.

DUBAI - A Saudi judge who served as head of an Islamic court has been arrested in the Gulf emirate of Dubai on charges of possessing and using drugs, a newspaper reported yesterday.

Hamad Salim bin Naif, who served as head of a Shariah (Islamic law) court in Saudi Arabia, was arrested along with his Moroccan wife after police raided their room in a Dubai hotel on Friday and found four grams of hashish in his possession, the Khaleej Times said. The suspect confessed that he and his wife take drugs and said he brought the confiscated hashish from Saudi Arabia for their personal use, the English-language newspaper reported, citing a Dubai police source.

THOUGHT POLICE

The show preceding mine featured a young woman, Mahvish Rukhsana Khan, who's published a book about the poor, innocent, kitten-loving prisoners at Guantanamo. Her interview climaxed with the claim that Guantanamo is the equivalent of the Holocaust.

I guarantee you that no one from MoveOn or DailyKos questioned that outrageous comparison. (Nor did the patsy interviewer challenge it.)

The Holocaust's victims were 6 million innocents. The handful of prisoners at Guantanamo are accused terrorists. Guantanamo has no gas chambers; prisoners aren't forced into slave labor. They aren't tortured or starved or shot. And their trials are open to members of the press.

The truly outrageous aspect of such comparisons is that the American left, with its Stalin-redux willingness to rearrange history, neglects to mention that, outside of Japan, all of the 20th century's great totalitarian regimes had roots on the political left.

It wasn't just Lenin and Stalin whose propaganda machine prefigured MoveOn. Nazi is an acronym for "National Socialist." Read Mein Kampf. It isn't a tribute to free-market capitalism, folks. Mussolini was a populist. Mao was a leftist, as was Pol Pot. The last century's worst censors and book burners all emerged from leftist ideologies.

At the moment, the American left evokes our Communists in 1939, who contorted themselves to justify the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact between Stalin and Hitler. As this column recently pointed out, Support Our Troops, Bring Them Home! disappeared from the political scene the instant Obama called for sending those troops to Afghanistan and Pakistan, instead of back to Fort Hood.

For the hardcore left, the party line always trumps conscience. MoveOn isn't new - it's just Pravda with poor punctuation.

Ah, the wonderful world of international athletics:

Russians are 'systematically doping'

IOC drugs chief Arne Ljungqvist on Tuesday accused Russia of systematically doping after seven athletes were hit with suspensions which could lead to four-year bans.

The 77-year-old Swede, who is also a vice-president of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), expressed his huge disappointment at what had taken place.

"A year ago I would have answered no," said Ljungqvist referring to whether he thought it was a case of systematic doping.

"However, I agree that it is a case of systematic doping. This would fall under the new WADA code that carries a four year ban."

Alaska Gov. Palin Sues Over Polar Bear Listing-- AP Misreports

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin sued the federal government seeking to reverse the decision to put the non-threatened polar bear on the threatened species list.

Polar bear numbers in Canada have increased in 11 of 13 regions in recent years.

The decision was made due to junk science projections--
Not because of actual numbers.

In the real world, polar bear populations are booming, not declining.
There are 5 times as many polar bears today as there were 50 years ago:

The AP also reported that arctic sea ice was at a record low last year.
But, the AP did not mention that arctic sea ice levels are up over 1,000,000 square kilometers this year over last.
That fact didn't fit the AP's agenda.

I clicked on that story and one about lowland gorillas first thing this AM.

They found 125,000 more gorillas they didn't know about, when they HAD thought there were only about 50,000.

Previous estimates, dating to the 1980s, put the number of western lowland gorillas at less than 100,000. But the animal's numbers were believed to have fallen by at least 50 percent since then due to hunting and disease, researchers said.

Adding the new to the pessimistic 50,000 gives 175,000, but the new discovery also calls into question the pessimistic guess of 50,000, so maybe as many as 225,000 gorillas.

225,000 this week when last week they would have told you 50,000. Big difference.

DUBAI - A Saudi judge who served as head of an Islamic court has been arrested in the Gulf emirate of Dubai on charges of possessing and using drugs, a newspaper reported yesterday.

I see a very speedy pardon down the road....

Interesting.

They don't actually count the animals (not possible), they estimate how many there are. I can't help but wonder if whoever is doing the estimating has some sort of interest in making sure the numbers are low.

They are not gorillas. They are oppressed polar bears, evolving as they flee the flooded North Pole.

OT- bad news for future farms on Mars: apparently, when the visiting aliens left, they salted the earth. Or the mars, I guess.

Scientists previously reported that the soil near Mars' north pole was similar to backyard gardens on Earth where plants such as asparagus, green beans and turnips could grow. But preliminary results from a second lab test found perchlorate, a highly oxidizing salt, that would create a harsh environment.

I've become a prude re alcohol and other drugs. Our next door neighbor's daughter was slaughtered by a DUI driver just barely over the limit, but swerving a little. He hit the girl - her dad was right behind her and saw it all. Where I live, a survey showed that over half of the people surveyed admitted that they had driven after drinking in the previous 30 days. Deatheaters is what they are...

So the Muslims may drink less, but read House to House by David Bellavia. He describes the drugged state of the jihadis he encountered in Falluja, including drugs injected directly into the heart. The actions and lifestyle of these Wahabis seem so wacked out because they are... they require drugs in order to do so many things against the basic instincts of most humans. This busted Saudi guy would be a case in point.

Chemicals create deatheaters.

The word hashish comes from the drugs use by the Ismaili Shiite Assassins who used it to make themselves fearless before they went into battle. They also pioneered modern techniques of political killing, hence the modern use of their name. Muhammed had himself relied on deception, infiltration and murder to get rid of opponents. The Lebanese mountain cult was related to the base of the current ruling minority Alawite clique in Syria.

re: #33 Ringo the Gringo

An interesting side note: The word hashish is derived from the name Hasan-i Sabbah who was the founder of the Shia sect know as the Hashshashin, and literally translates to the English word assassins.

I studied this in my linguistics class. The Arab assassins frequently smoked hashish to get them in the right frame of mind to do what they had to do. That's why "hashish" is derived from "assassin."

Bin Naif bin Abdul Aziz Ibn Al Saud? What is the full family name of the top Sharia Judge? Is he the son of the Saudi Minister of Interior?

Not a son, maybe a grandon but I doubt it.

Prince Nayef's son, Prince Mohammad, is the Assistant Minister for Security Affairs. It is Nayef that holds the kingdom together with an iron hand. And it is the son that controls the fingers of that hand. It is Prince Nayef that determines what, if any, modernization enters that country. While a very conservative member of the House of Saud it was Nayef who issued women ID cards so that they have at least a nominal ability to perform basic financial and civil transactions.

A sudden loss of power by Nayef would destabilize Saudi Arabia. Dubai would never do that as there is no telling which way the "young lions" will swing.

It is quite possible that the person in question is a member of another one of the Sudairi, perhaps Nayef's brother Abdul. But that would also be a shocker as Abdul is certainly in line for the throne.

Shariah courts in Saudi Arabia impose tough penalties for drug-related charges, and drug trafficking is punishable by death in the ultra-conservative kingdom.

For those saying this was just one joints worth, well no. Hashish is not a leafy substance but the dried compressed resin off of very potent strains of marijuana grown in the middle and far east. A gram of blond or red hash would look like a light brown or reddish stone about the size of a quarter. This would be enough to get 3-4 people very high one time. The much stronger black or Turkish hash would be a black gummy square or ball about the size of a dime. That would be enough to get 3-4 people very high about 2 times.

Dubai is brave to expose this person.

Kudos to Dubai BUT FYI, the Khaleej Times, the newspaper that broke this story, is one of the most anti-American/anti-Israel, leftist newspapers in the entire Arab world. And it's printed in UAE, which is SUPPOSEDLY one of the more open and moderate Arab countries.
