It is radical thinking that has done that. At the time "All Men are Created Equal" was about as radical a thought as had ever been penned.

Obama Finds An ACORN

In 1995, Illinois Gov. Jim Edgar balked at implementing the federal motor voter law out of concern that letting people register via postcard and blocking the state from pruning voter rolls might invite vote fraud.

A young lawyer, a community organizer himself, sued on behalf of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (Acorn) and won. The young lawyer was Barack Obama. Acorn later invited Obama to train its staff.

When Obama served on the board of the Woods Fund for Chicago with Weather Underground terrorist William Ayers, the Woods Fund frequently gave Acorn grants to fund its agenda and voter registration activities.

Acorn has been in the lead in opposing voter ID laws and other efforts to ensure ballot integrity. Acorn has been implicated in voter fraud and bogus registration schemes in Ohio and at least 13 other states. Acorn staffers will presumably be out registering voters again this year.

Obama also opposes voter ID laws. He believes they disenfranchise voters. Last year, Obama put a hold on the nomination of Hans von Spakovsky for a seat on the Federal Election Commission. It seems von Spakovsky, as an official in the Justice Department, had supported a Georgia photo ID law. Acorn espouses the leftist view that voter ID laws are racist.

I find it strange that up here if I want to vote I have to show a voter registration card, with photo I.D. most of the time. Mind you there are times when it can happen that some people can vote several times. It depends on how good the elections Canada people do their note taking when they go door to door.

One sure has to read between the lines to get the real story here:
"The military recently disciplined two soldiers, including a senior officer, after Palestinian activists filmed an incident where a handcuffed and blindfolded Palestinian man was shot at close range in the leg with a rubber-coated bullet after being detained in a protest."
So that was basically the worst that happened and those responsible were desciplined. Had the detainee been an Israeli in Palestinian captivity, he would have been lynched and then dragged behind a car and those responsable would have been celebrated as heros. I'd also be interested to know what the detainee did to deserve his detention, but I won't hold my breath to see it reported accurately in the MSM.

LGF had a thread or two last month about DNS issues on the net.

Huge Internet Security Hole Slowly Being Fixed

Wednesday, August 06, 2008 (AP)
Excerpts:

The patching of DNS servers has accelerated. Kaminsky said 84 percent of the servers he tested at the beginning of the process were vulnerable. That has dropped to around 31 percent.

[snip]

More details about the vulnerability are expected to emerge Wednesday, when Kaminsky speaks at the Black Hat computer security conference in Las Vegas.

The conference and its sister event, DefCon, draw researchers, government investigators and corporate executives eager to learn about new vulnerabilities and how to protect against them.

Hey TFK, never get to watch O'Reilly on TV, but hear him on the radio mostly every day...pretty equal opportunity with both guys, snarky at both. Yesterday, he said, "With McCain, at least voters know what who he is, with BHO, they have no idea." He meant that in a bad way.

A native Missourian, Twain was a lifelong contrarian who made a career out of attacking "petrified opinions" and mocking the establishment. He was briefly a confederate soldier until he deserted and went to California, where he became a journalist.

His "Celebrated Leaping Frog" made him nationally famous as an author and humorist. He returned East, where he live in New York and finally, in Hartford, Connecticut. He despised Teddy Roosevelt, and was a peace activist and prominent member of the Anti-Imperialism League.

He remains one of the greatest American authors and humorists of all time.

Absolutely. His home in Hartford is still kept up as a museum and is beautiful. The home had changed hands a few times before being restored, and a few years ago someone donated to the museum a large portion of what had been Twain's original collection of books. His library is just amazing.

I've toured the Hartford Twain House/Museum. It's astonishing. The guide told the story of how Twain had a neighbor who was a prominent evangelical preacher. The neighbor's garden adjoined Twain's. Twain's little daughters had several cats. With devilish humor, Twain named the cats after various demons from the Bible. Each evening, he'd tell his little daughter to call the cats into the house.

"Come here, Beezelbub! Come into the house!", called the little girl. The same for the other "demonic" cats. The neighbor and his family would be sitting in the adjacent garden, and would have to listen to the little girl inviting all these Biblical "demons" into Twain's house!

I'm hearing recent reports that the Museum is in financial trouble. Too bad.

That is true, but last I heard the state of CT was going to step in to make sure that it stays open. It is a landmark in the state's capital city and needs to stay open. Right next door is the Harriet Beecher Stowe house. I have to admit that I have never gone into that one.

My daughter's daycare provider, an in home daycare, actually volunteers at the Twain house on weekends. One of these days we will bring my daughter there. She is only two so it is a little early yet.

No experience with deaf animals, just my epileptic dog!

But I do have several cats - cats (like most animals, I guess) need to be able to hear in order to be alert to potential danger. I would suggest that if you adopt this cat, make sure it stays inside as much as possible, where you can ensure its security.

Friend has a deaf cat--had her for years. House cat only! She can "hear" the vibrations of footsteps approaching, and if you talk to her, she is not startled--again, sensing the vibrations. She's an absolute love, and gets along with the other three cats.

Go for it!

Good for you. Indoor cats live longer, generally avoid some very complicated health matters (Like feline leukemia, FIV, distemper and unwanted litters of kittens. But always have a vet check out your kitty.) and can be wonderful companions. Deaf cats deal with their surroundings as well as or better than deaf humans do because...well...they're cats. Cats have their act together (Yes, and so do dogs. We humans are the ones who need pads and helmets.). Just a thought, though - despite the press accounts, cats are social creatures. If you're not home a lot, you might consider adopting two compatible cats. Like I said, just a thought. Thanks for thinking about adoption.

I despair for my poor little state. We will never be counted amongst the top tier of legislators if some progressive elements do not take hold.

Some of us tried to make them see reason, "Look to Massachusetts for your example!" we cried by voice and post, but no. Still stuck in the mud, still steadfastly clinging bitterly.

I mean, yeah the guy was charged with a felony sex crime, but for Pete's sake, he managed to plea bargain down to a misdemeanor. Give the fellow a break.

Buncha racist bassards.

The Dobbins Rule.

At least the poor guy can console himself with the continued support of his wife, and the fact that he has a bill known for himself.

Rep. Sharon Dobbins, wife of former legislator Dwayne Dobbins, was the only person in the House to vote against the Dobbins rule; its passage means that, for all practical purposes, Dwayne Dobbins will never serve in the House again.

I tell you, it is this type of thing that prevents Arkansas from taking its rightful place amongst the top tiers of corrupt legislatures. We've got the players and coaches, but are held back by simple bigotry.

well as long as we're on a cat topic. Just had the wifes approx 1 year old male orange tabby neutered about 3 weeks ago. I was under the impression it was suppose to calm him down, wellll..quite the opposite, he's crazier and more active than before the neutering...he's more aggressive, he can make it from her study through the living room and into the kitchen, full speed, never touching the floor. and now he also has become adept at opening every cupboard and closet in the house. I caught him in the bathroom medicine cabinet the other day. gives me the , "yeh, thats right I'm looking through here, whats it to you?" look...has anyone heard of this phenomenon of a male being more active after a neutering?

Good morning. Fascism is very much alive and well in Illinois this morning. My governor, the leading asshole in the state, has an idea to put cameras up on our interstates to raise revenue. Why, you ask? Becasue he wants that money to go to a special state police task force to deal with the escalating violence in restless Chicago.

Gov hopes to raise millions to fight crime by putting cameras on interstates

To make good on his offer to help Chicago combat violence, Gov. Blagojevich envisions putting speed cameras on interstates across Illinois -- and using the revenue to form an "elite tactical team" that would operate in Chicago and other cities.

The idea is in its infancy, with no budget and no timetable.

In the long term, the governor is considering installing speed cameras in each direction of every interstate in the 20 State Police districts across Illinois to raise $50 million a year in revenue -- enough for 500 more troopers. The money could support an "elite tactical team" and bolster everything from crash investigations to cold-case murder probes, Trent said.

Currently, camera-equipped vans nab speeders in construction zones, but state law does not allow speed cameras on interstates, Trent said.

The SunTimes has a comment board just below the article:

I love it how these politicians that are chauffeured (or in Rod's case, helicoptered) everywhere keep coming up with ideas to stick it to motorists.

Don't lawmakers already punish them enough with endless stickers, taxes, and tolls, and state police that are instructed to fret more about a few extra mph than warning the weavers, tailgaters and left-lane campers.

If anything, Transportation should be thinking of RAISING the speed limit of 65mph on rural IL interstates to make travel more pleasant and quicker. That low speed limit is already a huge cash cow.

What's next, cameras in the home to make sure we don't overeat? Hello, police state, we've been expecting you...

Impeach Blagojevich!

This is true. It's best if you can adopt two kittens or young cats at the same time, so they grow up together. Older cats tend to not like each other all that much, in my experience, which is considerable given that the dog keeps finding abandoned kittens and bringing them home with him.

Good morning lizards...

I have the a horrible story to tell..

My client has a gal who helps her with yard work. So this gal has her mom from Russia in town for a big visit. Big visit to see the grand kids etc... Well, the mom from Russia cannot refrain from mentioning her obsession: the fact that she thinks that dogs and cats are infected with a "parasite" that can hurt or kill humans. So - one day - one of the two cats is gone missing. No where to be found. Odd? .... but wait - Then the other cat (who is so shy it won't step foot outside) goes missing. The gal corners her mom from Russia and begs her to tell her what she did with the cats. The mom is clearly the culprit, but she makes excuses and lies. She won't confess. Even the grand kids know that freaky grandma from Russia did something with the cats.

The mom from Russia was scheduled to stay in the US for another 6 weeks. The gal was so furious about her two missing cats and the obvious lying about the missing cats that she drove mom back to the airport and made her return to Russia.

As for the cats? Still gone. Probably left for dead or killed.

Moral of the story according to FrogMarch. People from backwards/former communist countries are filled with irrational crazy insane and cruel bullshit towards animals.

I know that the Libertarian wing gets very excited about public police cameras but I just don't get it. We are talking about law enforcement being allowed to observe and respond to what is illegal conduct. The fact is that a cop is allowed to, in fact is expected to, observe whether people are breaking the law. Putting up cameras rather than hiring hundreds of extra cops to sit there is just good management. There is no right to speed. There is a right to overeat. Cops have no right to intrusively observe what happens in your house without some probable cause. They have every right to observe what happens in public. If you do not like the speeding laws petition your legislature to change the law. This is not Fascism. One thing I'll agree with you on, Blagovitch is a poor excuse for a Governor even by Illinois standards.

Interesting analysis of the election campaign,

Obama's ego has prevented him from being the ideal community organizer he pretends to be. Meanwhile, McCain has taken the initiative and set the agenda upon which Obama is attempting to campaign. On every issue: Iraq, Iran, energy, & experience, Obama is playing catch up, changing or 'clarifying' his positions. McCain has even managed to show Obama as the race baiting candidate.

McCain, the fighter pilot, has gotten inside Obama’s OODA loop. Something the Navy teaches fighter pilots to do.

The OODA Loop, often called Boyd’s Cycle, is a creation of Col. John Boyd, USAF (Ret.). Col. Boyd was a student of tactical operations and observed a similarity in many battles and campaigns. He noted that in many of the engagements, one side presented the other with a series of unexpected and threatening situations with which they had not been able to keep pace. The slower side was eventually defeated. What Col. Boyd observed was the fact that conflicts are time competitive.

Elections are nothing if they are not time competitive. Evidently the “freezing of the opponent” that Alinsky recommends has not worked on McCain. He was not frozen. Once that happened McCain was operating inside Obama’s decision loop.

Evidently Boyd is beating Alinsky. Or to put it another way. The fighter pilot is beating the community organizer.

...McCain the old attack pilot is on Barack’s six and BHO’s no Alinsky.

My point is simple. The place to set the controls is at the legislature in determining what is and what is not lawful conduct. If we allow legislatures to pass laws controlling our thermostats and food then we can expect law enforcement to enforce those laws. Nothing makes less sense than filling up the statute books with a host of gotcha laws and then failing to enforce them. That is how we got into the mess we are in with immigration.

Didn't Samuel R Delaney have a passage on allowing people to see random clips from all the gov't video collected on them?

As usual, Wretchard's follow up comments are even more insightful:

wretchard:

Obama by making himself the center of the campaign has effectively decided to lock himself in. This election was supposed to be about Bush. Obama made it about Obama. He can’t change his campaign without altering the image of himself, around which his political message is largely built. That’s why in a clash between policy and person, Obama will change the policy. He will flip-flop. This is the only degree of freedom he has.

McCain for deliberate or accidental reasons, waited until Obama was locked into a course. He let Obama build the edifice of himself, brick by brick, until it was as immovable as the statue of Ozymandias. BHO set the capstone in Germany. He was the One. Then McCain really pounced. He had to get inside Obama’s OODA loop once, strategically. And he did this by cannily waiting until BHO was in a powerdive, his controls frozen by compressibility. Obama can maneuver tactically and talk about Republicans being “proud of their ignorance” which is another tin-eared example, if any were needed, of how unlike an organizer BHO is. He doesn’t seem to get tired of insulting the great unwashed. But that’s it. He is the One that he has made himself.

And McCain, despite the deficiencies of his own vehicle, might actually be able to shoot BHO down

On the topic of cats, we have 37 cats... My wife worked with a local cat rescue organization, and was attempting to find homes for them. Then, she developed bi-polar disorder, proving she was a cat hoarder all along. And I was too weak to stop her cat hoarding. Now I have to take care of them all, by myself :(

But I do love the little buggers... Sweet little animals, but a lot of work.

Very revealing: every time the McCain campaign attacks or critiques Obama's positions, the Obama campaign makes a personalized defensive response, as if Obama has been insulted. Even Obama's attacks on McCain have started to sound like projections of his own defensiveness:

"I don't look like those other presidents on the dollar bills"

Obama has made a strategic blunder in making the election about Him. It's not about Obama or McCain, & certainly not about Bush. It's about America. The politician who forgets that will always loose.

The retired cop (and friend of the mayor of our town) across the street from us has a virtual zoo in his house... Several lizards, tortoises, snakes, large squaking birds, and a half dozen dogs. So noone around is gonna really complain...fortunatly. Of course, sometimes I wouldn't mind if the cats were "confiscated"...as long as they weren't euthanized.

So, I'm doing what I can to spread some truth amongst my denomination, which is still right-of-center but seems determined to follow all the mainline ones down the toilet. This is my response to a Pali-lovin' article the month before after a "fact-finding visit". Fortunately, it was published.

I was disturbed by what I saw as half-truths and misrepresentations in this article. On a positive note, I agree with those quoted that life in the disputed territories is hell on earth and a humanitarian disgrace. And I agree that the modern state of Israel is “not chosen of God” or in need of saving for some end-times purpose. My disagreements are not influenced by Zionist preachers, but simply by my heart and brain.

For example, the Palestinians are kept in subhuman conditions for political purposes. Does anyone find it ironic that the wretched people they observed are “brothers and sisters” to some of the wealthiest nations and kingdoms on earth that surround them? These countries literally have wealth pouring out of the ground, yet find it more convenient to keep the Palestinians in the world’s first multigenerational refugee camps to show the TV cameras and tour groups how cruel the Israelis are.

Speaking of cats...such fun little critters...a number of years ago, I noticed a strange phenomenon...I was in the basement about to use a can of spray paint...There's a metal ball inside the spray paint can, and you shake the can (it makes a metallic noise). Our female cat was sitting there watching, then (upon hearing that noise from my shaking the spray paint can) she began this strange behavior -- her tongue was rolling out of her mouth, etc., as if she were gagging..At the time, I didn't realize (fully) what was going on...It was a seizure. Then her seizures became worse (triggered by metallic clanking sounds), and it was as if she became increasing "sensitized" -- so that tapping anything metallic, rattling change in your pocket, etc., brought on a tongue-lolling seizure (the seizures also sometimes led to violent vomiting, following by a partial paralysis (?) of the hindquarters -- unable to walk.) It was cat epilepsy. (Also appears to be inherited, our male kitten -- from her litter -- also has had similar seizures.) Both cats, also, btw, learned how to control the seizures (at least the tongue lolling), and it was through yawning...that's how they'd re-gain control -- by yawning...

Anyway, different topic. I've read that Ezra Levant's Kangaroo Court Ordeal has ended...his case has been dismissed, but he doesn't consider it a victory...We still have real problems with respect to "free speech" here in Canada...

well as long as we're on a cat topic.

Must be some kinda compensation thing ... My mum once suggested I get my nuts tied, I said "No $^%&^*(£ way!". Don't want to be out there running around like a neutered cat! This is one case where I don't believe in doing unto myself as I do unto my cat.

Mandatory songs included "Its Yesterday Once More" (Carpenters); "Country Roads"; "Puff the Magic Dragon" and "Leaving on a Jet Plane"

NINE repetitions of Country Roads today, ranging from very good (1) to blah (7) to Oh-God-Help-Me (one group, with the lead guitar playing in C, the rhythm guitar was in D, and the only singer was singing in E... Oh, Jim, we judges were appalled, she didn't have a CLUE, other than 'the show must go on'...

From 0800 this morning through lunch and ending 1700 this afternoon, then decompression, and me home at 1900... $6 an hour, but easy work. Sort of. Arooo, yowl, screech...

/and don't even ask me how many times I listened to Puff the Magic Dragon today! It was bad enough hearing "I'm leaping, on a jet plane" and "I'm living, on a jet plane!" and "I'm leaving, on a jet plan!" and "I'm living on a jet pain!"

Yes. The more extreme seizures were very frightening (also terrifying for the animal)...(Our male kitten, now fully grown, has been seizure free for quite some time -- I suspected that there was something in the cat food -- some ingredient to which they were both allegeric (?) which somehow contributed (or exacerbated?) their condition. So I switched cat foods -- and the seizures declined...and, as noted, our cat is now healthy/seizure free...)

Lizardim...

Today was a $60 day, serving as one of 5 judges for a 23-school singing competition in English 'Folk Songs'! One of 6 songs (their choice) as their mandatory, and a second song of their choice, the two not totalling more than 8 minutes total. Min 3 singers, max 5, 9th & 10th graders....

I always feel sorry for judges at competitions, having to hear the same pieces over and over. You have my greatest sympathy, sir.

Kilted postmen?

SEATTLE - A 6-foot-tall, 250-pound letter carrier is campaigning for the right to take off his pants. Dean Peterson wants the U.S. Postal Service to add kilts as a uniform option for men.

With his build, Peterson said, his thighs fill slacks to capacity, causing chafing and scarring.

"Also," added Peterson, "I'm concerned that my children will grow up soft if they don't get bullied enough at school."

(Incidentally, I've spotted skirts kilts on a couple of men in gay bars, but I think in those particular cases, the urge to wear skirts kilts may have had less to do with them being homos, and more to do with them being the kind of superdorks who attend Ren Faires and Trek Cons and such.)

more:

If a Soros-like figure is trying to control Obama, their strategy is probably to make him dependent on this sustained wave of mass hysteria. They’re going to use him up like a political Sid Vicious. Their little stage puppet. If they keep him hooked on the hysteria it ensures that BHO will need them more than he needs the people. The “people” can’t pay for these huge ad campaigns, but the big boys can.

But if Obama paused and thought for a moment, he could turn the tables on his backers. He’s got strengths of his own. Intelligence, articulateness, personability. If, as someone suggested, he finished his Senate term, did a stint as Governor of Illinois and went on a listening tour of the frontlines of Terror, Obama would be much, much stronger in 2012. And most important, he wouldn’t need the junk adulation wave underwritten by the Svengalis of the world. He’d be independent; largely his own man; a force on his own. As it is, if BHO gets into the White House on the rent-a-rock-star wave, with its cloud of spangles and jangling electric guitars, he’d be even more dependent on his backers to stay there. Stay on the wave and he just might wash up on the White House lawn. Used up but there. But he if wants greatness, which lies further than the White House, he needs to get off the wave.

US military: Iranian-made munitions seized in Iraq

Iraqi troops have seized Iranian-made rockets and mortars in Baghdad's Shiite slum of Sadr City, the US military said Wednesday.

It said the cache was discovered Monday near where Shi'ite militants fired more than 1,000 rockets toward the fortified Green Zone during clashes with US-led forces earlier this year. Iran denies US allegations that it trains and arms militants in Iraq.

A statement Wednesday said the seizure includes "new Iranian munitions with a manufacture date of early 2008."

It said scores of Iranian rockets, launchers and mortars were seized along with munitions from Russia and China.

Absinthe is another name for the herb wormwood (Artemisia absinthium) and the name of a licorice-anise flavored green liqueur that was created at the end of the 18th century, and manufactured by Henry-Louis Pernod. Called the 'green Muse' it became very popular in the 19th century, but was eventually banned in most countries beginning in 1908. The reason is the presence of the toxic oil 'thujone' in wormwood, which was one of the main ingredients of Absinthe. Absinthe seemed to cause brain lesions, convulsions, hallucinations and severe mental problems. Thujone was the culprit, along with the fact that Absinthe was manufactured with an alcohol content of 68% or 132 proof.

From 70 to 80 percent of all ripe olives are grown in California's approximately 35,000 acres. In the 1700s, Franciscan monks brought olives to Mexico and then into California by way of the missions. The first cuttings were planted in 1769 at the San Diego Mission. Commercial cultivation of California olives began in the late 1800s. Today, anywhere from 80,000 to 160,000 tons of olives are produced in California each year.

My daughter has had a deaf cat on her farm for several years. It lives outdoors, but stays close to the house for companionship and, possibly, for protection (there are coyotes and the occasional mountain lion around). No problems with it, but the humans are extra careful on occasions such as when the kids are setting off fireworks. It might be dumb, too; never says anything.

Good thing that article mentioned 2008 or I'd a thought it was a reprint.
A few questions:
a) why doesn't President Bush (who really has nothing to lose personally) use this evidence to have the Democratically Controlled Congress to come back into Emergency Session to discuss this act of war by Iran on the United States and also ask Congress for a Declaration of War on Iran?
Worst thing that happens is Dem's refuse to come back into sesssion or come back into session and vote against it - vote, in other words, to allow another soverign nation to deliver weapons and the expertise of their "Quods" to an enemy of the United States for the express purpose of killing US troops (hello John McCain - here's a campaign gift for you)
b)ask the UN to intervene in Iran (yeah just a gesture but WTH)
c) Ask NATO - under the strict terms of the NATO treaty, to aid us in our fight against a soverign nation which has attacked our troops (and therefore attacked the United States) - remember the Iranian Special forces we've captured - ALIVE - in Iran?
d) all of the foregoing?
