Man Arrested for Obama Assassination Threat

Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 8:06:21 pm PDT

Thankfully, this moron was caught before he could do any harm: Man held for alleged Obama assassination threat.

An affidavit filed by a Secret Service agent in U.S. District Court claims that Raymond Hunter Geisel, of Marathon, Florida, threatened to “kill, kidnap and cause bodily harm upon a major candidate for president of the United States, that is, Senator Barack Obama.”

A search of Geisel’s vehicle and a hotel room in Miami, where Geisel was attending a bail bondsman training class, found a 9-mm handgun, ammunition that included armor-piercing and rifle bullets, police-style emergency lights, body armor, a machete and two canisters of tear gas, among other military-style items, according to the document.

Agents say that classmates of Geisel reported that, between July 25-28, Geisel used a racial slur toward Obama and said “if he gets elected, I’ll assassinate him myself.”

A classmate said that, one day after class, she also heard Geisel say “that he hated George W. Bush and that he wanted to put a bullet in the president’s head.”

The guy sounds more like a putz than a serious threat; but it's good that they got him.

re: #4 CapeCoddah

Thankfully, he was caught. Why was he not charged with threatening the President's life?

Because they would have to arrest 1/2 the KOS kids and the guy who wrote the book/movie on killing George Bush. We can't have that, can we? After all, that was just right to speech and artistic expression....

18 NomadOfNorad  Thu, Aug 7, 2008 8:13:16pm

Yikes! This guy was armed, armed, ARMED!

19 CapeCoddah  Thu, Aug 7, 2008 8:13:21pm

I think threatening a sitting President is more dire than threatening a candidate, but, don't get me wrong, ANY threat like this should be dealt with swiftly and to the fullest extent of the law, whether it is President Bush, or candidate Obama. I don't like Obama at all, but, I don't want his life threatened.

20 NomadOfNorad  Thu, Aug 7, 2008 8:14:19pm

re: #4 CapeCoddah

Thankfully, he was caught. Why was he not charged with threatening the President's life?

That is the question.

Witnesses say he threatened both, but was only charged for one.

Maybe they have the Obama threat on tape and not the Bush threat. Maybe threatening a sitting president carries a harsher penalty and they're holding off on that charge in case he's more of a loudmouth jerk than a real threat.

49 lawhawk  Thu, Aug 7, 2008 8:19:45pm

Yes, this guy was an equal opportunity wack-job, and deserves to have the book thrown at him for threats against both Obama and President Bush. Not sure why they're discounting the threats against Bush - could be with the way the evidence is corroborated.

At the same time, you had CNN running interference - all but claiming the guy was a right wing wack job because they left out a key component to the story - that he had previously threatened President Bush as well.

50 Mich-again  Thu, Aug 7, 2008 8:19:45pm

There are a hundred stories about this, but none of the headlines I saw mentioned the threat to President Bush, only the one he made regarding Obama. Of course its not newsworthy that a nutjob made a death threat regarding the President. In fact I'm guessing most folks who work for the media don't think there is anything wrong with that.

Looks like the vicious-minded haters are becoming more and more emboldened. I know that there are no reports about any connection (yet) to right-wingers, and this specimen claims to hate Dub and wants to kill him too. For clarity's sake, the story on the other, forgotten, assassination plan this week.

ROCKVILLE, Md. - Police investigating a teenager accused of bomb-making and weapons violations found a map of Camp David with a presidential motorcade route in his home, a Montgomery County prosecutor said.

Collin McKenzie-Gude, 18, of Bethesda, also had a document that appears to describe how to kill someone 200 meters away, Montgomery Assistant State's Attorney Peter A. Feeney said.

The teen had two forms of fake identification — one portraying him as a Central Intelligence Agency employee and another as a federal contractor, Feeney said. The details were revealed Tuesday

District Court Judge J. Michael Conroy kept McKenzie-Gude in jail on a $750,000 bond, reduced from $1 million. The teen faces charges of weapons violations, possession of explosives and attempted carjacking.

Authorities said they found 50 pounds of chemicals, assault-style weapons and armor-piercing bullets in his home. The investigation has expanded to include the CIA, FBI and Secret Service.

Also, a 17-yr-old was involved, and they knocked down a 78 yr old man while trying to get the man's car keys and steal his car. They also had a list of teacher's home addresses.

It could get crazy enough in Denver that Howard Dean might get another chance to scream Yeargh! to stop the kerfuffle on the floor.

And if that happens, I'll bet a box of Cuban cigars that CNN and MSNBC will have technical difficulty and stop broadcasting the proceedings.

Ill take that bet on the off chance that I accidentally win. However if you win, you'll get one cigar and a box of filler paper. /

And NEVER EVER cross the red rope.

I knew a civilian security guard at a military base known for having lots of nukes and other toys. His company gave him a beautiful rifle with the biggest scope I've ever seen outside of movies. He said he could get a sure kill at about 2000 yds. If someone trespassed, they were allowed a certain amount of distance where the guards would attempt to arrest them. If they went deeper in the base, past the arrest only distance, or appeared to be escaping, a kill shot was authorized.

Every Saturday they would blow up old munitions. I lived far enough away that usually I only felt the ground shake. A few times they blew up something really big that would shake the windows.

Hello Karmic_Inquisitor,

Yes, I saw the post, but I wasn't particularly clear what it is, exactly, that you're looking for from me.

Confirmation of your opinion?

Well... sure, I suppose someone could ask him that question. But the painfully obvious answer would be, "There's never been a better time than today, generally. Women and minorities have equality at last, our citizenship is healthy, and so forth. But our stature in the world was much better, for instance, in the years following our triumph in the Second World War."

So it's a good thought, but not that useful in real application.

re: #272 jcw46

Yes! He would also be good but I think Joe would be better overall cause they can't paint him with VRWC label as easily as others.

But damn he's so liberal. He's an unrepentant lib on everything but the war.

279 ParisParamus  Thu, Aug 7, 2008 9:31:50pm

Actually, it's Obama whose the one with a kid's book character intellect...sorry for the confusion.

I

JOE LIEBERMAN FOR VICE PRESIDENT.

The Dems would REALLY hate that.

We would have so many of them frothing at the mouth that visitors from abroad would think it was a rabies outbreak.

281 neocon hippie  Thu, Aug 7, 2008 9:32:34pm

Talk seems to be growing of discord in Denver and a possible move by Hillary. It ain't gonna happen; the superdelegates chose Obummer over Hillary in what was basically a tied contest, and they're not going to change their minds now. The race card trumps the gender card. Nobody is going to risk major unrest and the longterm loss of the black vote. The powers that be may realize that they are in a fix but they would rather risk losing this election over damaging the party long term.

282 JeremyR  Thu, Aug 7, 2008 9:35:13pm

re: #266 Silhouette

By that logic, Obama needs to pick a VP that anyone who would hate Obama would hate even worse. Then he could even do without security.

Sorry, no such person exists among those who are qualified to hold the office with the possible remote exception of Jimmah Carturd.

That wouldn't lose the black vote. Heck, the Dems could elect a flippin' Grand Kleagle of the KKK, and it wouldn't hurt 'em.

284 antoniojvr  Thu, Aug 7, 2008 9:41:27pm

If this loon wanted to assassinate McCain, I bet the Kos kids would be so disappointed he was caught...

Yanking a promised black presidential nominee would get a lot of black people pissed off in a way that could be unprecedented.

Good Lord. Thankfully he was caught. It's scary living in a world with so many nutjobs and evildoers, all just walking around like they belong here!

Great that they caught the freak.

I'm not sure there's a statute against deicide

Agents say that classmates of Geisel reported that, between July 25-28, Geisel used a racial slur toward Obama and said “if he gets elected, I’ll assassinate him myself.”

A classmate said that, one day after class, she also heard Geisel say “that he hated George W. Bush and that he wanted to put a bullet in the president’s head.”

Looks like this lad's going to need a change of address card, looks like he'll be going away for a while...

Raymond Hunter Geisel what frigging moron...nuff said

291 Dustyvet  Thu, Aug 7, 2008 10:53:38pm

Raymond Hunter Geisel, 22, was arrested by the Secret Service on Saturday in Miami and was ordered held at Miami's downtown detention center without bail Thursday by a federal magistrate.

No Bail...:)

Ron Paul supporter?

Can't be, he would have threatened Obama multiple times.

Congratulations, Ray, on joining the three-name club. Reserved for serial killers and would-be assassins.

At least the middle name isn't Wayne.

294 HBob  Fri, Aug 8, 2008 5:46:34am

So this scumbag said "if he gets elected, I'll assassinate him myself."

It's clear he only wants to kill presidents, not presidential candidates. So the headline should definitely focus on the threat to the president - not the candidate.

295 quickjustice  Fri, Aug 8, 2008 6:40:01am

Sheesh. Wasn't "Geisel" Dr. Suess's real name? I hope this guy isn't related. It would ruin "Horten Hatches the Egg" for me forever.

Like most of you have stated, where the hell is the Secret Service when President Bush is threatened, on a DAILY basis, by the whackjobs at Kos, HoPuff, and such? Shit, if they were to actually go after those pukes, the prisons would be overflowing with them!

297 Kyle_st  Fri, Aug 8, 2008 7:10:55am

Yes, and too bad that Charles Johnson perpetuates the storyline on this, that only OBAMA was the target of this asshole's threats. As the story (and snippet above) make clear, he wanted/threatened to kill President Bush too. But note the glaring headline, repeated on LGF: Man Arrested for Obama Assassination Threat Is it true that he was ONLY arrested for his Obama threat, 'cause threatening a sitting President is okay?

Accurate. I spent time reading through the Ron Paul forums, and this fits some of the threats being made to wage a violent revolution once they realized RP had no chance of winning.

Heh. Yup, walked guard duty a few times myself with an empty weapon.

My first general order is to take charge of this bar and all the beer and liquor in it.

re: #4 CapeCoddah

My question exactly.

305 oino sakai  Fri, Aug 8, 2008 1:13:19pm

I'm surprised I can't find the words "imminent threat" or "Bush Doctrine" in this thread. Perhaps someone said this a different way.

But this arrest is the sort of thing President Bush meant when he said "America could no longer wait for threats to become imminent." The Secret Service takes threat-makers at their word and acts.

American foreign and military policy should follow this sort of example of striking when the threat is made, and not the example we tend to see in law enforcement-- not taking threats seriously, undercharging offenders, lightly sentencing the guilty and releasing terrorists early.
