Funny thing. I was playing poker tonight downtown and some guys (who live in other nearby dangerous neighborhoods) were giving me a hard time about Powderhorn maybe 20 minutes before that happened. I insisted it's a fine neighborhood, even though a shooting in my alley turned up a spent 9mm round in my driveway.

I've slept on my porch every night for the last month. It's been very quiet on my block. Besides, I'm better armed than most of the hoods in this neighborhood.

re: #37 Kosh's Shadow

There was a story going around a while back - late 80s. No one told Syd they were working on that album, and no one had talked about doing any kind of recording at all at the time. They kind of left him where he ended up - in his drug-induced psychoses and proceeded with the Pink Floyd project. So they decide to record the material that would become Shine... And one day, Syd showed up at the recording studio, guitar in hand, ready to play his parts.

You scored 33 out of a possible 33 points.

Well done! You would have no problem getting a German passport.

Thing is, I missed about 6 or so of the multiple-choice questions, and responded to the Wrong, try again prompts until I hit the correct choice. So I imagine someone who's completely illiterate or/and ignorant could pass this kind of a test.

I had not heard that. It would be an epic blunder if true.

Wolfie, Cloony has a home in Italy and for some reason is holding this shindig in Switzerland. Probably because the Swiss are so "neutral" My guess is the Hollywood elite will be the ones attending.

Its a real pain getting some of the old stuff back.

And some of the stuff I miss isn't that old, just part of a short run. There was a band called Victims Family that I really liked that put stuff out in the mid '80s and early '90s.

I used to have a double CD that I sold for maybe $5. Now it's worth upwards of $100 dollars. USED! I kick myself now, not because of it's monetary worth, but because I still want to hear it.

I have since learned my lesson, and do not sell anything from my meager collection.

"My goodness," says the passenger, "I'm sorry for startling you like that!"

"It's not your fault," says the driver. "This is my first day on the job, you see. Before today, I drove a hearse for 25 years."

Last time I checked, mice still died from a 9mm ;)

From the thread downstairs, posted by CapeCoddah:

A case where the mouse should have had a gun, too:
POTTER VALLEY – A Mendocino County woman who was trying to kill mice in her trailer with a gun ended up shooting herself and another person.

Sheriff's officials say the 43-year-old woman pulled out her .44-caliber Magnum revolver after she saw the mice scurrying across the floor of her trailer on Highway 20 in Potter Valley.

But she accidentally dropped the gun, which went off as it struck the floor. The bullet went through the woman's kneecap, bounced off the keys sitting on the belt loop of a 42-year-old man in the trailer and grazed the man's groin before ending up in his coin pocket.

Authorities did not release the shooting victims' names.

The mice escaped the shooting unharmed.

This is from my "youth" so don't judge me too badly now from it;

Had a mouse in the house that kept taking the dog's food (dried kibble) and stashing it in my closet. I didn't really care about the mouse or the dog food theft but the little f!cker would do it in the middle of the night waking me up.

One night I snapped and tracked it down and cornered it under the stove. Got out my .38 Ivers Johnson (Saturday Night Special; Basic model) and started to root it out from under the stove with a stick.

Zip, out it comes and I just reacted and shot twice while it was changing direction. Zap! Got IT!

AFTERWARD; realized how f!cking stupid that was! Could have shot myself or caught a ricochet! What a maroon! Got the little sucka though.

re: #35 Molon Labe

5. The “A-OK”
Mainly used by scuba divers to mean “OK” (to prevent ambiguity with the thumbs-up sign, which means “ascend”), this hand gesture is generally called ‘A-OK’, and in America and the UK is often used to tell somebody that they’ve made a great meal, as talking with your mouth would just be impolite. Essentially the meaning comes out as “great”, or “absolutely fine”.

Not so, however, in a few countries in Europe, where the numerical interpretation gives the signal an insulting overtone – essentially you’re telling them that you think they’re a ‘zero’.

Far worse, however, is the meaning in Brazil, Germany and a few Mediterranean countries: the circular shape of the gesture gives it the meaning of “anus”, and is therefore used to call somebody an “asshole”, or, by extension, a homosexual.

This is actually really funny.

Among the many sites that have linked to my Up Your Alley Fair report in the last few hours are these two -- for completely opposite reasons!

This Christian site absolutely blows a sprocket over my pictures, linking to my report about 15 times in an article that cites my documentation of "Incredible Public Perversion" as proof that civilization is about to collapse:

The secular website Zombietime has documented the incredibly heinous public “pig sex” perversions and nudity that were allowed to take place unfettered by police at the July 27 “Up Your Alley” street fair in San Francisco,

Meanwhile, this gay blogger at the exact same time also links to the exact same report approvingly, saying

This is really just for a few gay guys - only those guys who would actually go to Up Your Alley, Dore Alley, or Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco. If you do not know what those events are, then this link is NOT for you. Really, you will not find it interesting at all. However, if you do recognize those fairs and you have gone or would like to go, then this link is for you. Of course it is from a very conservative guy trying to reveal the horrors of Up Your Alley. But he took a lot of good photographs during his hour visit to Folsom Street this July. So check it out! MUCH better than Peter LaBarbera's pictures.

...

Ah ha! I knew you would go and look even after I told you not to! And yes! Steve and I have been to Up Your Alley fair and yes it is pretty much like this guy says later in the day ... much to my dismay I usually got ill and left before things really got good but I saw many wonderful things.

I'm glad I made everybody happy!

My new motto: "Zombietime: The only site loved by gay fetishists AND anti-gay activists."

Conservative Idaho politician:

Public Indecency in San Francisco

I dare any of the Idaho liberal bloggers, or the Idaho Statesman (which is pretty much the same thing) to link to those pictures and then defend San Francisco liberalism

Democratic Idaho activists:

Obsession for Men

Poor little Clayton is still trying to justify his homophobia and obsession with anything "gay":
...
There you go, linked and everything. What do I win?

This has nothing to do with liberalism, this has everything to do with a class of people that have been treated as second class citizens, as non-citizens and as scapegoats for everything under the sun.
...

From your links:

I'm told that this has nothing to do with homosexuality; San Francisco is just a crazy place. Yeah, right. It's just a coincidence that San Francisco has the highest percentage of gay people, a city government dominated by gay people, and a police department that was told not to arrest naked gay men having bizarre sex in public.

FAIL. Not all gay people behave in such a way, publicly or privately.

I've stated before that the excesses of homosexual imagery is intended to shock and to disgust those that want to be disgusted by those images. If you think they are horrible, don't look at them.

FAIL. Public streets exist for all who pay taxes. No one should be given a pass to behave like this in public, regardless of sexual orientation.

On a side note, I have yet to check out your report on this because I have an unanswered question: Is there poop? I don't want to look if there's poop.

The Bay Area isn't as simple as all that. You could be in cloudy, foggy San Francisco, all wet and cold, and then travel less than 30 miles south to Redwood City, and be all kinds of hot and sweaty. Not to mention the fact that these two cities, so close to close to each other, are worlds apart in so many ways.

True. I remember traveling from Vallejo to the lower end of the peninsula and it was misty and chilly in Vallejo but when I got to the south bay area I was sweating my a$$ off.

When I think of San Fran I think mostly of the City itself and the north bay area close to the water. Just over the hills in Napa valley it gets real hot too. Wacky weather all over Cali. 50 min drive or less to go from misty/cold pacific ocean to boiling desert or mountains.

To Drill or not to drill.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi opposes lifting the moratorium on drilling in ANWR and on the Outer Continental Shelf. In fact, she won't even allow a vote to come to the floor of Congress. Pelosi and Harry Reid, House Majority Leader, know that "the times they are-a changing," even within the Democratic Party, and they would lose the vote.

Americans, especially the middle-class and poor, are suffering at the pump with $4 plus per gallon gasoline. Oil is too cheap, and we all know it. As China and India power-up their economies, soon there won't be an ounce of surplus available, and $200 per barrel and $7 per gallon will become the market norms.

I thought we went to war for oil. I won't be happy until regular is back to $2.25

I know good ol' Der Slick Willey is speaking at the convention. I would LOVE it if he, in the middle of his speech, changes direction and starts a 'call to arms' so to speak to rally all the moonbats. I can see him running around the podium from side to side screaming with his red face to match his constant red nose. His harem backstage watching with baited breath, as he pulls his Howard Dean warcry,
"Hillary will lead us! Hillary is the rightful heir to the throne...I mean the Presidency! It's a rightwing conspiracy that Obama is in on to keep her down! Obama thinks he is the nominee! It all depends on the definition of 'is' people! The definition of 'IS'! YEEEAAAAGHH!"

Then the moonbat 'peace' comes out in full force as they all try to kill each other, and with a lack of guns it becomes very a grotesque display of violence, akin to various art dispays in museums and universities, as feces, urine, scratching, fisticuffs, empty Starbuckstm cups, used needles, welfare checks, bullwhips, mac laptops, iphones, Obama posters and a myriad of other subsidized and purchased items are weaponized and used to fight.

Okay -

Mrs. Obama meets with Military spouses - fawning ensues.

Obama's Norfolk visit was part of a series of conversations she's conducted with military spouses, including campaign stops in Fort Bragg, N.C., and Hopkinsville, Ky. The mother of two daughters also has traveled to other states to hear about the challenges women face in balancing work and families.

"Mostly I'm here to listen and to do a lot of learning and then to transfer that information into the heart and mind of my husband," Obama said.

/It was a spontaneous roundtable.

The invitation-only roundtable discussion will happen at Old Dominion University, according to a release from the Obama campaign.

I was born and raised there.

When I was a kid (maybe had one or two nether hairs at the time) my friends and I took a bus ride to the City coast (maybe South City, maybe Daly City, I was young and didn't know shit about cartography) to explore some of the abandoned pill boxes and ammo batteries from WWII.

We squeezed through chained, steel doors. Walked through dark, forgotten, underground hallways full of broken bottles (and who knows what else), and came upon a rusted ladder leading up to a hillside pillbox.

I looked through the slits of this iron shelter, and in my historical, childhood ignorance imagined all the battles that had taken place here (none). Whatever last line of defense that was drawn here, I was certain that my nation had won the day.

/And if we were old enough, and smart enough, to bring flashlights and other such preparations, I am certain we would have been just as dumb, young, and curious enough to get ourselves lost and dead.

Beckel & Jerome Corsi are on Fox now. Beckel is blubbering on & on about how Corsis book is fiction & talking over him.
Before break he made it clear that he was a football linebacker.
He does that a lot, kind of like Kerry letting you know that he was in Viet Nam.
By the way, good morning!

re: #170 zombie

This is actually really funny.

Among the many sites that have linked to my Up Your Alley Fair report in the last few hours are these two -- for completely opposite reasons!

This Christian site absolutely blows a sprocket over my pictures, linking to my report about 15 times in an article that cites my documentation of "Incredible Public Perversion" as proof that civilization is about to collapse

Har! Nice of them to provide free ad copy for the 2009 Folsom Street posters...

"INCREDIBLE!"
--Peter LaBarbera, Americans for Truth

"A Laff-A-Minit Frolic for the Whole Family -- Twelve Thumbs Up!"
-- Susan Granger, Blurbs 'Я' Us

(Incidentally, though, I would quibble with describing the linked page as a "Christian site" -- first, because it's pretty much a single-issue organization that doesn't necessarily take a position on anything but THE HOMOSEXUAL MENACE, although there are many other controversial current issues of potential interest to Christians; second, because AFAIK it's basically Peter LaBarbera speaking for Peter LaBarbera, just as "The Catholic League" is really William Donahue speaking for William Donahue.)

Wow does it make Obama look retarded

Now that one I like. I haven't liked all of his ads because I think they have been a little bit juvenile to be coming from the McCain campaign. This one, however, is good. I would like to have seen some shots of Obama claiming to be the candidate that will bring the parties together followed by the praise for McCain from Dems.

BTW Good morning all.

Greets and saluts from the NYC metro area. I see that the divorce decree in the McGreevey case is going to be handed down later today. Our long nightmare is nearly over.

McGreevey and his soon to be ex-wife are scum. He was a democrat who used his office to spread graft and corruption and put a completely unqualified non-citizen into a position to become the state's homeland security director. That's why he claimed he was a gay American.

Sex had nothing to do with him resigning. It was an all to convenient cover for his real misdeeds, and the media has been willing to go along with it.

The only people I'm concerned about are their kids - who will grow up reading about all the crap and escapades their parents did. Stay classy McGreeveys.

A couple of threads back people were running on about Cuban cigars. THe best policy is always when you are thinking of doing something that may be illegal or stupid do your homework first. The "My friends thought it was a good idea and some guy on a blog said 'Sure go ahead'" excuse really doesn't work.

From the Customs web site:

Prohibitions on Cuban Cigars
The revival of interest in cigars and cigar smoking underscores the need to remind the public of the prohibitions that have been in place for many years with respect to cigars of Cuban origin. The number of attempted importations of Cuban cigars into the United States is rising and because dealing in such cigars may lead to Treasury enforcement actions, the public should be aware of — and make every effort to observe — the prohibitions which are in effect.
There is a total ban on the importation into the United States of Cuban-origin cigars and other Cuban-origin tobacco products. This prohibition extends to such products acquired in Cuba, irrespective of whether a traveler is licensed by Office of Foreign Asset Controls (OFAC) to engage in Cuba travel-related transactions, and to such products acquired in third countries by any U.S. Traveler, including purchases at duty-free shops. Contrary to what many people may believe, it is illegal for travelers to bring into the United States Cuban cigars acquired in third countries, such as Canada, United Kingdom, or Mexico.

Importation of Cuban-origin cigars and other Cuban-origin tobacco products is prohibited whether the goods are purchased by the importer or given to the importer as a gift. Similarly, the import ban extends to Cuban-origin cigars and other Cuban-origin tobacco products offered for sale over the Internet or through a catalog.

It is also illegal for U.S. persons to buy, sell, trade, or otherwise engage in transactions involving illegally-imported Cuban cigars. The penalties for doing so include, in addition to confiscation of the cigars, civil fines of up to $55,000 per violation and in appropriate cases, criminal prosecution which may result in higher fines and/or imprisonment.

These prohibitions are applicable to all goods of Cuban origin and are an important element of the comprehensive program of economic sanctions against the Cuban Government which have been in place since 1963. Those sanctions have had the support of the last seven Administrations.

The U.S. Treasury Department, Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), administers the embargo of Cuba. Suspected embargo violations may be reported telephonically to OFAC Enforcement Division at (202) 622-2430 or via facsimile at (202) 622-1657.

Some very interesting poll numbers here about Americans ideas on what our government should be doing with regards to gas alternatives and drilling for oil. It is sad that the American people seem to have a better grasp on this issue than their elected officials.

My senators are thankfully trying to promote energy independence and reasonable (i.e. inexpensive) oil alternatives.

My favorite energy efficient car concept is not a true hybrid, but a gas-electric based off the diesel-electric concept railroads have been using for about 70 years to run their locomotives. The propulsion gear is all electric. An on-board gas engine is used to charge the batteries. The gas engine is matched to the generator and set to run at the most efficient speed to get the most electricity for the least amount of gas. Since the engine runs at one constant speed, it is much easier to tune it to run clean. In a pinch, the car's batteries can be charged by plugging the car in. Thus you have an electric car with all its benefits that can be run cross-country on the highway without making special accommodations.

Cough coug,h however, cigars manufactured from tobacco imported from Cuba prior to the ban are still perfectly legal....

Yes if you have a supply of ancient tobacco that was previously imported to the US you can have a Tobacconist make you a cigar. Not sure it will be smokable but they say people have had tasty mammoth steaks and wine from Roman shipwrecks.

The point is that importing anything from Cuba requires a special license and that never covers cigars.

It's a Potemkin vision. All that glamour and glitz hides the grim reality that the situation in China is an absolute mess. The fact that the Chinese have to repress speech, access to the Internet to report and research stories, etc., shows that the Chinese are trying to project an image, but they know that the truth is far more grim.

Actually there is a very large quantity of said tobacco and tobacco ages very nicely as long as its kept at the right humidity level. That 40 year old tobacco make the finest cigar on earth, better even than fresh Cuban tobacco.

Wait till your next trip. The border stations used to be converted houses. Now there are giant concrete bunkers with jersey barriers, video and audio eavesdropping equipment. The scale is immense and it is all an immense waste of money. Meanwhile they Canadians , where they have any controls, have little toll booth kiosks.

Not surprised by that. The best craftsmen left Cuba long ago so why should new cigars from there be particularly good? Ages ago my Bahamian college roommate brought Cuban cigars in to prove he could. They stank. The Flor de Jamaicas he introduced me to were tasty.

388 lawhawk  Fri, Aug 8, 2008 6:11:44am

I think this story deserves a wee bit more coverage. Russia and Georgia are about to get themselves into a major shooting war over South Ossetia. Russian jets have already been shot down and the Georgians are fighting in the South Ossetian capital.

If Ossetia sounds somewhat familiar, it's because it's home to Beslan, where Chechen terrorists murdered more than 300 people in the school takeover and subsequent siege/rescue.

Beslan is in North Ossetia maybe 30 miles or more from the district of South Ossetia that is supposed to be part of Georgia. You are absolutely correct about how important this is. They are both to darn close to Chechnya for real estate values to prosper.
