Seems middle of the road. Non-controversial

2 novaculus  Fri, Aug 8, 2008 11:14:42am

Ouch! That's gonna leave a mark!

3 OldLineTexan  Fri, Aug 8, 2008 11:14:54am

McCain has the attack ads down pretty good as of late.

4 lifeofthemind  Fri, Aug 8, 2008 11:15:01am

McCain is staying in his OODA loop, will Obama panic now?

5 Cygnus  Fri, Aug 8, 2008 11:15:14am

The truth hurts.

6 DirtyDog  Fri, Aug 8, 2008 11:15:22am

I really don't know what to comment. I thought it was pretty good. Celebrity tax raiser. Couple good punches.

7 rwmofo  Fri, Aug 8, 2008 11:15:41am

I thought we were supposed to use a black and white photo of the opponent frowning - and stealing a little kid's lunch money.

No need to show Obama eating puppies with the polls where they are.

Socialism, zero sum economics.
If you have some, someone else doesn't.
It's governments (BHO) job to make it all fair.

10 jorline  Fri, Aug 8, 2008 11:20:13am

Looked pretty good and on target.

11 JammieWearingFool  Fri, Aug 8, 2008 11:20:43am

Smear! Attacks! Phallic symbols!

12 opnion  Fri, Aug 8, 2008 11:21:04am

The ad is clearly racist. Notice the picture of Obama at the end?
They have him looking African American

13 Sharmuta  Fri, Aug 8, 2008 11:21:32am

BRILLIANT! Keep them coming!

14 JammieWearingFool  Fri, Aug 8, 2008 11:22:13am

24 itellu3times  Fri, Aug 8, 2008 11:26:44am

Believe he should start with the main point.

Don't like the whispery voice.

I think it's a little too cute.

They also don't really connect raising taxes and ready to lead, that's a bit too complex.

But, I suppose it's OK.

26 Deseeded  Fri, Aug 8, 2008 11:28:10am

This is great. McCain isn't pulling any punches. He's going to wipe the floor with Obama when the real debates start...if they ever do start.

By the way, saying that McCain is going to wipe the floor with Obama is not a racist comment. Just figured I'd throw that in there.

27 littleoldlady  Fri, Aug 8, 2008 11:28:37am

I think it's perfect. Love the "Not Ready to Lead" tagline.

/on the other hand they could cut to the chase and go with: "Barack Obama - he wants all your money!"

28 Opinionated  Fri, Aug 8, 2008 11:28:44am

I found the Bob Herbert "phallic symbol"- see if you can too.

29 hermeneutics  Fri, Aug 8, 2008 11:29:10am

McCain is winning Missouri according to Rasmussen -- MO was supposedly "in play." Nice to have this state wrapped up. McCain gained two percentage points since the last Ras MO poll.

But the Michigan's numbers were a bit disappointing (49 v. 45). I had hoped to see them up more. With all the crap going on in Detroit, I expected McCain to have a good chance of taking this state. The poll was taken before the indictments, btw, so the "real" numbers are probably a bit closer. But not close enough.

Question for Michigan lizards -- how will the Detroit mayor's indictment impact the GOTV on the Democratic side? How important was his role in energizing his urban base?

One more question -- Can Romney as VP turn MI red?

30 Olderthandirt  Fri, Aug 8, 2008 11:29:11am

The Big O was quoted saying: "He's killing me, it's death by a 1,000 cuts!"
let's have more of these ads and continue cutting down on the Big O's supporters.

I have no idea what will convince people to vote for McCain. I had dinner with a very old friend. One of the smartest guys I know. Runs a big company. Thought he had the best bull crap meter of anybody I knew. The guy reads a lot of history. Knows Obama would be bad on defense and fighting terrorism. Bad on the economy. Knows he's been influenced by socialists, Marxists, communists and bigots. Knows he's been lying. Knows he's a cypher off the teleprompter. Yet, he's on the fence about Obama. Said electing him would send a message to the world. I couldn't believe it. I thought my friend would be the last person to buy his crap. My friend acknowledged every point I made. I've seen that, too. Depressing and perplexing.

I talk politics to clerks a lot. Buying cigs opens the topic, because the Dems raised taxes to two bucks a pack. A clerk at Giant was shocked when I explained the Dems, not the Republicans, raised taxes. I pointed out that they are in power. Her face fell, and she said "But I'm a Democrat." Here is the part that always gets them. I said "So am I." For many, it is the first time they realize they don't have to vote party line. Seriously. You can see it in their face.

Mentioned that Colin Powell could have been elected president for either party. He hates Hillary. He acknowledged that if she won, it would not be good for women because of her actions supporting Bill in his shenanigans. Gah. But still thinks Obama would send a message.

The left's #1 agenda is to raise taxes. They love the control and the prospect of progressive government programs and progressive fascistic government control over our lives. In the name of fairness.

He also said he didn't love her. Why was he visiting her in a hotel room two weeks ago? Scum.

I'm sure she feels used. But if he makes her angry enough, she will spill the beans.

Supposedly she is feeling "used" to the tune of a monthly check for $15,000 from Edwards, per the National Enquirer (which broke, and currently owns this story).

Oddly enough, I don't feel sorry for either one of them. They're both adults. . .they each knew what they were (are) doing.

The victim here is Edwards' wife Elizabeth, who in addition to having cancer, now has the added indignity of a cheating spouse.

I cannot approve of adultery, with its attachments of lying, betrayal, etc.

But my "outrage" scale has been re-calibrated in recent years to take into account greater and greater evils that I witness, and frankly, compared to Marxism, jihad, and treason, I'd say that adultery barely ranks a "3" now on a scale of 100.

I agree. However, when you have a cheating spouse and live in a state where adultery, desertion, or a two year separation are the basic grounds for divorce, where adultery is grounds for immediate divorce (don't have to wait two years), and everyone and his/her cat knows the spouse cheated, adultery looms large.

While I agree with your classification of Edwards as "below scum", its possible (though not all that likely) that for a variety of reasons, Edwards wife tolerates this behavior.

EG: Why didn't Hilary give Bill the boot 20 years ago?

The point is, even though it looks bad for Edwards (real REAL bad), its inappropriate to make a judgment without knowing the entirety of the circumstances.

re: #77 scottishbuzzsaw

I tried to pin him down on that. His answers made no sense. It got embarrassing.

I've seen that, too. Depressing and perplexing.

I think I understand it. I am a political junky. Watch politics like most men watch sports.

All things being equal, the generic Democrat should have trounced the generic incumbant Republican in 2004. Given the false/mistaken pretext for the war, the state of the war at that time, the economy and the tiny margin from 2000 it should have been a Democrat landslide. And it wasn't.

Same thing could be said about this year. The incumbent Republican has a historically low approval rating, the MSM is in the tank for the charismatic Democratic challenger. And the Democrat cannot pull away in the polls.

Without even considering specific policy choices or ideology, our normal ebb and flow of presidential politics - where we just "throw the (incumbent) bums out" - should have the Democrats running away with the election in both 2004 and 2008 and they cannot do it.

That traditional Democratic-Republican cycle tugs at the average voter like a rising and falling tide. People like to mix it up because they do not want to be considered close minded or stuck in the mud.

The problem is the Democrats keep nominating candidates further and further from the middle of political landscape. In the end the tide that was making your friend still consider voting for Obama is not enough.

Hence the Republican victory in 2004 and I expect in 2008 as well.

Agreed. What I mean by "White Guilt" is the decades of multi-culti claptrap, affirmative action foolishness and smarmy "be tolerant" mantras spoon-fed to the populace. We have been made to "feel" guilty for what has happened before and some of this is deeply rooted subconsciously and displays itself as indecision pitting what you know as opposed to what you feel.

Does that make sense?

Maryland has old-style divorce laws. If both parties agree to a divorce, it takes one full year of separation (living apart, no marital sex). If they don't, you must show cause - adultery, prison, desertion, or two full years apart.

It always surprises people when they learn this - that there are still states without no-fault divorce.

Hello friends

I had a few minutes and much on my mind so thought I would stop in and say hi and give you my take on what is going on:

The Olympics- Sport is better than war. Long term, this will change China more than it will change us. Do not bet against our basketball team.

Iran- Europe the US and Israel are now facing the harsh reality that diplomacy has failed. Israel is preparing for war. The US is too. It is my belief that there are additional sanctions coming but f Iran does not immediately throw up their hands quick, Israel will strike. The recent report the Russians suddenly stopped shipment on SA-20s to Russia a few months at most. Of far greater interest is the report of big US ship movements towards the region indicating Bush intends to leave office with the entire Axis of Evil defeated. The ships are to pressure Iran to avoid a war they cannot win- or else. Iran's leaders cannot and will not back down. They threw away a million lives against Saddam in the Iran-Iraq War, they are willing to send even more of their kids off to die against the Great Satan to get the bomb.

Obama- a leftist wolf in progressive sheep's clothing. Lefties like to talk about the "damage" of Bush. Bush did not start the war; if elected, Obama will see wars all over the world as the international "community of nations" will use his presidency to settle scores. Knowing the Obama will do nothing but talk, really nasty regimes will emerge in the Americas, Africa and South Asia; problems future presidents will be fixing for decades to come. Voters have no idea how far left he is and just how bad his ideas are. The bright spot- Republicans are pounding the Dems on their lack of a coherent energy policy. The left cannot talk about nuclear and oil because they are utterly beholden to the environmental lobby,

Georgia- Georgia may have overplayed their hand but there is a nasty Putin powerplay over a pipeline that is a major factor. Russia wants to bring the entire region back under their control to restore the Soviet Empire.

McCain- Nothing else to say but G-d bless him!

Palestinians- they are the gift that keeps on giving. The recent crackdown on Fatah in Gaza is the final stage before they trying to take control of the West Bank. Fatah is weak and Hamas, powered by Iranian cash, smells blood. The good news is half the Jerusalem press corps has been downsized- no new is good news for Israel.

Lebanon- the Lebanese response to the Kuntar release has caused me to rethink why I ever cared about Lebanese independence. If you want to be free you have to fight for it. I do blame Condi and France for not sticking up for the March 14th Independence Movement, Hezbollah's minicivil war was met with US silence and that cut the legs out from under the democratic forces- but you should not count on others to fight for your own freedom.

The Very Big War- when you see three more US carrier battle groups heading to the region, you know it is game-on! Reports of US ships steaming into the Indian ocean also mentioned Israeli naval vessels as well. These will be vital to any Israeli strike on Iran and are a major signal of what is to come. Israel has a very small navy with two separated coastlines shifting deployment of ships is not something trivial- it alters force balances and is anything but routine.

Iraq- Ten years from now this war will, if we are smart, yield incredible dividends to the US. Iraq can be our chief ally in the region keeping the Saudis, Syrians and the Gulf States either in line or supporting US interests in the region. Iraq can revolutionize the politics of the Arab world- if Iraq can have elections why can't the rest of the Arab world?" Iraq also discredited al Qaeda in the eyes of the the Islamic world- their defeat and their tactics forced the Islamic world to question the justification for al Qaeda's existence. Iraq also proves that Islam and democracy are not mutually exclusive and the US really stands for liberty for all.

Well, time to run!

Regards to all.

Just to show there is no cat 'racism' at LGF, here are some
Fasion tips for Simba

{please don't do this to simba}

My domestic shorthair would kill me if I tried to dress her (she is large and strong). I might be able to wrestle my Siamese into something (he's smaller), but he would proceed to go insane, and that would be a bad thing.

They won't even wear their collars. The domesic shorthair pries hers over her head. The Siamese knows how to unhook his.

I bought these two temporary transport carriers for them. When I tried to put them in the boxes, they each destroyed their carrier within a minute. Shredded them. I then bought plastic carriers.

re: #266 kawfytawk

yeah....a whole group of us would ride around...brace yourself now....in my parents LTD station wagon....you know with the third seat in the back. UGH....but we could fit half the neighborhood in it...lol

funniest recollection was a guy who drove a hearse and it had Last Resort painted on the tail gate

I had girlfriend in high school whose father bought her a car...it was a former funeral flower car. Black station wagon with red interior.

HAHAHAHA. Well I'm just a bad. I would use my moms Chevy Impala, fill it with so many people the rear bumber would drag. Heck you could get 3 in the trunk.

The really stupid part. The drive in theater was 2 bucks per car load. (not per person) 0-:

re: #265 Miss Trixie

I started on this year for the first time since I was a kid (1960's) Honestly, I got some tomatoes, a few bell peppers and summer squash, but the weeds! If I could eat crabgrass I'd be in the tall cotton. The soil is poor here, we call it "white clay" though it really varies from medium brown to a dark gray. it is so thick that water stands on it. if you need to dig a hole bring a pick. Shovels bounce off. There is a brick factory about 5 miles from my house if you get the picture. I added compost and mulch, but that just made the clay ball up. I expect it will take a few years to condition the soil for plant life (not weeds)

White guilt.

I bet feeling good about choosing a minority/multi-culti type rates pretty high on the dynamics scale with a lot of the elite upper income voters, and even the yoot vote. The Dems love to feel the sunbeams of of uni-world grace falling on their enlightened faces, and they love to pat themselves on the back so much that one of their arms is two feet longer than the other. And we know how much the left invests in the importance of self-esteem!

Then there are my in-laws. They distrust Barry O's roots and early politics, but as Jewish-Dems--to-the-BONE, they can barely bring themselves to consider pulling the lever for a REPUBLICAN! They want to believe! that if the Obamuppet is a Dem, he must - at the cellular (and soul-ular) level, be fair and righteous. It's not white guilt for them.

re: #246 goddessoftheclassroom
Hey Goddess, my dad is separated right now, from his second wife of 25 years, who cheated on him. When she threw him out of thier house, (his moms house that she left him, the house he grew up in), he kept giving her money for the mortgage. She never paid it, and the house was taken. She took the $ he gave her, and bought a home w/ her BF. He was gonna try to stop it, but I told him to sit still, and let them buy it. Now, 2 yrs later, I told him to file for divorce, and his attny told him, like I said he would, that he gets half that new house, half of her trust fund, and, she has to pay him alimony because she makes approx 6 times more than he does. She screwed herself. He also got custody of my 2 younger brothers, because she drinks and drives around with them in the car. He took my advice and hired a PI to tape it. All this in a no fault state, that hates men.

My parents weren't drive-in people, but I used to go with my best friend and her family. They'd even drive us to fires. They lived on a farm and didn't have indoor plumbing. Being a child, I thought that was cool.

I've converted many clerks with the cigarette tax thing. Especially since the Dems here in MT have decided the feds didn't go far enough and have jacked the taxes and regs through the roof.

Regardless of what the candidates say, the visual of the the wrinkly white hair guy (to borrow from Ms. Hilton) standing next to the youthful looking Obama is going to be a tough hurdle to overcome. Barak starts the debate 5 points ahead.

I don't buy it. Age=experience. The ones who are looking for youth are the 18 to 26 crowd, and most of them are too busy being professional slackers to vote. Except the ones in the military, and any guess who they'll vote for.

Maybe.

Based on what happened in the 1060 election, that visual was powerful. We'll see what happens. Also, MacCain could have a Jerry Ford like moment...remember Ford saying that Poland wasn't under Soviet dominanace? If Mac has a senior moment during the debates, it's all over but the crying.

Part of Obama's vacation will be a family reunion. He said he tries to see his grandmother every year, but put off a trip in 2007 while he battled his Democratic rivals. "So it's been about 19 months since I saw her," Obama said. "She's at an age where it's really important for me to see her."

Because all other options give you Obama.
Because he actually gives a damn about national defense.
Because he won't take 90% of your income.
Because in 2005/2006 session he had a 90% conservative rating, making him the single most conservative member of the Senate.
Because we cannot afford to desert our troops.
Because he is not an extreme Marxist/Socialist
Because he speaks his mind and doesn't hide behind a teleprompter.
Because he's not Obama
Because he's not Obama
Because he actually cares about his country.

I've had a delightful american family coming to my Cafe every day the past week. Been beating them at chess which has left 'em pretty impressed, coz the son's quite a chess fan. So I pushed my advantage and asked the son who he's gonna vote for.

The young guy's 20 this year so it's gonna be his first vote. He wants to vote Obama, because he thinks the Reps have made a mess of the job market and thinks the Dems can't do worse. I told him, oh yes they can ... a lot!

I explained to him that the Dems sure aren't gonna create more jobs, he might get higher unemployment benefits but not a job lol. Tax and spend just never has that effect.

Dude, did you just say OODA loop?

316 Oldbluesboy  Fri, Aug 8, 2008 3:31:56pm

Take a few minutes and search for the following:

Obama Saul Alinsky
Obama Frank Marshal Davis
Obama South Chicago Yards
Obama teaching Alinsky method
Obama Chicago political machine
Obama Palmer
Wright Farrakhan
Wright Nation of Islam
Jesse Jackson Wright Farrakhan 1984 Navy pilot
Obama new black panther party

When you watch Obama, you should see that he is "preaching" to the poor and his use of the buzz words "change" and "hope" come from the Alinksy playbook. When Obama was teaching in Chicago, he taught the Alinsky method, which degrades the listener to the point of giving up. At that point, the speaker gives them hope by telling about change in the government, military, and corporate America. Michelle understands and uses the Alinsky method, too.

This is also the basis for the New Black Panther Party's 10 Point Platform. When you read point number seven, it is obvious as to why

Obama HAS to be black.

Words, just WORDS.......
mean something.

Listen to his.

Very nicely done. Now do some reading on the history of the Black Panthers and see why they would embrace Alinsky's teaching. This is all 60's history come back again.
