Kos Kids Krushed

Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 6:02:31 pm PDT

At Daily Kos, the Kidz are crushed by John Edwards’ admission that he lied to their faces: Daily Kos: Edwards Admits Affair, Take Two.

The disappointment must be even sharper because Edwards was the furthest left candidate in the Democratic Party (save for Dennis “UFO” Kucinich), and made deliberate attempts to pander to the leftist blogosphere by hiring one of the nastiest Nutroots bloggers, Amanda Marcotte. Who he subsequently fired.

People here have been very aggressive in the
past towards those of us who have commented with the truth about this affair. I wrote a long comment, which was not well received about my first hand knowledge of another long time affair he had, and people did not want to hear it. He and his wife are very selfish and destructive, they have known about this behavior for a long time, and were willing to risk the whole party for their own personal power. Elizabeth should not be speaking at the convention, and someone this stupid should remove himself from political life.

Ummm- HELL-OOOOO! That's your whole party in a nutshell. They don't care about you, they don't care about the party- just what you and the party can do for them. Wake up!

49 Racer X  Fri, Aug 8, 2008 6:19:51pm

OK, let me get this straight.

John Edwards had an affair and lied about it repeatedly.

When he was caught red-handed spending 5 hours in her hotel room with her he finally fessed up and admitted to the affair.

He says he is not the baby's father because he "ended" the affair prior to the conception.

John says one of his staffers started bangin' her after he did, and he is the father.

John says he has apologized to his wife and asked her for forgiveness.

Does his wife know he spent 5 hours in her hotel room?

How come there is no father listed on the birth certificate?

John, you are a liar and a cheater. I do not believe a word you say.

There is absolutely no way that he is NOT the father of that child.

Because there is absolutely no chance that he would have just copped - in 2008, just weeks before the Convention - that he had an affair in 2006. No chance.

If all that happened was a fling in '06, he would just keep on denying it ever happened.

He is just trying to make the story go away BEFORE they prove that he is the father the child.

65 Purple Prose  Fri, Aug 8, 2008 6:27:11pm

Democrats are a lot more affair-prone than Republicans in recent history.

Some say Eisenhower and Bush Sr. had affairs, but nobody can prove it, so we can consign it to the dustbin of innuendo. In the same category of possible but not proven among Democrats of recent history, there is FDR, although there is somewhat more to suggest he did have an affair with his secretary. Truman - nothing on him. But then you get to JFK - affairs galore, including one with Marilyn Monroe, as everyone knows. A dry spell with Johnson and Carter, although again there are innuendos v-a-v Johnson, but nothing proven. The intervening Republican presidents, Nixon and Ford, don't have any sexual dirt on them, although Nixon has other dirt on him obviously (even though I think he was a great president in many ways). Reagan - nothing. Bush Sr. - again just innuendo, most likely unfounded. But Bill! Oh, Bill. Bush Jr. - nothing.

So you look at the president since FDR. Of all of these presidents, Republican or Democrat, only JFK and Bill Clinton are known to certainly have had affairs and, to boot, some of these affairs were while they were in the White House.

It seems to me that Democrats have had a much worse track record with regard to affairs and seem to have trouble keeping their pickles in their pants. And the more liberal they get, it seems, the more the chance is that they will indulge themselves.

If they don't have the discipline to control the sexual urges, how can we trust their restraint and good sense on other matters.

I wonder how Obama fits into this scheme. As a modern liberal Democrat, he probably has the philandering gene. He sees himself as beyond judgement and fashions himself as a new JFK. His wife even dresses like Jackie O. when she was Jackie K. I'll be Obama is of the JFK/Bill Clinton/John Edwards mold. Maybe he even already has some little illegitimate Baracks somewhere in the world. Or maybe not. He is an international man of mystery.

Unbelievable. I'm watching the half-day delayed opening ceremonies from Beijing on NBC, and less than an hour into the show they lost all audio. After about 10 minutes with no audio (including commercials), they put up a technical difficulties notice for about five seconds. Now, who knows how many minutes later, the sound finally comes back.

I'm guessing 15 minutes lost sound, on a canned studio production of a worldwide event. Conveniently, the sound went away right before the singing of the Chinese national anthem.

NBC at play. One entire segment of the ceremonies was completely lost without sound.

I really don't get the part about how the baby is supposedly the child of Andrew Young, a guy who was Edwards' adviser during all of this. Is that supposed to make it better for Edwards? That him and his associate were tag teaming her instead of Edwards having an affair with her?

If Young taking the fall for getting the woman pregnant is somehow a plot to lessen the political impact on Edwards its the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

And if its actually true that these close political associates were both having affairs with the same woman at about the same time thats even weirder. What, was Young picking up Edwards' scraps?

Either way, yech. Nice job guys.

Sorry, I just cant agree with your sentiment. Nobody dances with the devil without knowing who they are dancing with.

Well I certainly agree with you there, but my point here is that, IMHO, marriage is an institution the value of which is independent of the character of those who may participate in it.

It is very difficult to mock the behavior of individuals within that institution without mocking the institution itself.

Thing is, when it came out I am sure many of us said it was probably true. He is so self centered and immature that it is not out of the possibility.

With Edwards as well as a lot of others, the women in the family are actually a hell of a lot smarter then the men.

I hope this turns his hair gray!

And best of all.....he will not be president...not now, not ever!

Yes!

He won't be President but Obama might. Now you gotta admit, that's worse.

Fucker reminds me of my X during the divorce. He denied paternity of The Kid and then turned right around and sued for full custody.

#164 goddess of the classroom

{MandyManners}

I am so sorry--how completely awful.

In many ways, I'm lucky my EH had the meltdown he did because his rage/violence allowed me to get the court order giving me full custody and keeping him away from us (as well as exclusive occupancy to the house). Of course, these terms may change during the actual divorce settlement, but he hasn't even responded to my petition yet--and he doesn't have to for another year.

I feel for you both!

Mandy, what a total jerk your X is.

And Goddess, hang in there. Your X's temper will continue to bite him in the a**. My X was the same way . . . had an alcohol and spousal abuse problem. I had him removed from our home in 1989, when our daughter was 4 and our son 8 months.

The X couldn't keep his temper under control when the judge ordered him to rehab, actually defied the judge's orders twice, was cited for contempt or court, willful contempt of court and fined, and threatened with jail. It took 2 1/2 years and 4 judges, but I eventually got permanent sole custody of our children.

Thank God he's had little to do with them since. And believe me, they've been better off for it.

Well, it's good your X did well for the first 15 years . . . maybe he can get some help for his midlife crisis, then re-establish some kind of relationship with your boys.

My story does end well . . . both of our children are doing beautifully. Our daughter graduated magna cum laude last year with a bachelor's degree in Finance from Northeastern University in Boston and has a terrific boyfriend she's been dating for 3 years. She is starting graduate school this fall. Our son was a National Merit Scholar and an all-star football and lacrosse player in high school, attends Univ of FL, and is planning on becoming an anesthesiologist. Neither have been in any trouble. We are so blessed.

As for me, I finally remarried 5 years ago. My husband is a wonderful stepfather to my children, and has truly restored my faith in marriage.

So sordid stories like mine DO sometimes end well!

Keep the faith and continue to devote yourself to your children during this diificult time for you and them.

"I think this President has shown a remarkable disrespect for his office, for the moral dimensions of leadership, for his friends, for his wife, for his precious daughter. It is breathtaking to me the level to which that disrespect has risen." -- John Edwards, Feb. 12, 1999"

I see that some of the scumbags are trying to counter with a supposed McCain affair. Unfortunately for them, if McCain were to have an affair, he's probably not stupid enough to walk out of a hotel room into the waiting camera flashes of National Enquirer photographers.

By the way, can we have a contest to come up with cute derogatory names for Kos kids or are we above that? If they haven't been used already I propose Kossacks and Kozholes.

We should have more games, giveaways and contests on this site. Nothing fancy, Starbucks gift certificates, t-shirts, that sort of thing.

I know, Charles is probably thinking: "Sounds like a great idea. Start your own site and give away as much stuff as you want."

Just an idea.

re: #270 roryn00

e disappointment must be even sharper because Edwards was the farthest left candidate in the Democratic Party (save for Dennis “UFO” Kucinich), and

hey come on give kucinich a break, when the visitors took him away in their spaceship they probed him, you know, anally, and he ain't ever been the same since

I love to sing-a, about the moon-a and the june-a...

What is interesting about this is that the MSM was ignoring it totally (like the Ann Coulter column was saying), just hoping it was tabloid BS.

It could have gone away.

But he admitted it, so now they have no choice but to cover it.

re: #256 FrogMarch

I like the quote:

Our family has been through a lot. Some caused by nature, some caused by human weakness, and some – most recently – caused by the desire for sensationalism and profit without any regard for the human consequences.

This is rich considering he's a trial lawyer that made shitloads of money "channeling" stillborn babies in court. Costing millions of bucks to the medical community on junk science. An ambulance chaser.

Desire for profit without any regards for consequences indeed.

Bible quote of the day

Proverbs 6:32

But a man who commits adultery lacks judgment;
whoever does so destroys himself.

They're shocked--shocked!--to find that Edwards is somewhat lacking in the "moral fiber" department.

Ann Coulter could've told them that.

283 Cato  Sat, Aug 9, 2008 3:35:56am

I disagree with most of the comments here. Edwards was and is an empty suit, nothing more or less. But this is a self-made tragedy affecting none of us --not even the Kos idiots.

If you want to focus on hypocrisy, focus on the "above it all" candidacy of Obama or the "save-the-world from global warming" aristocracy of private jet and SUV using Gore. They are hypocrits of the highest order and they would harm our lives with loony policies.

Edwards is a sad diversion.

I actually watched Edwards' interview about the affair last night on Nightline--what a oily guy! He had the AUDACiITY (of hope) to mention McCain's first marriage during the interview. Before this is over, this will all be about McCain accrding to the Dems. So Sickening ! BTW, I do not understand why these wives stay with these kind of husbands.

Note also the timing of this. Announcing admission on a Friday afternoon and doing an interview on Nightline. He won't be taking a paternity test any time soon either , that's for sure.

re: #65 Purple Prose

A stripper named Blaze Starr wrote in her memoirs that JFK gave her the proverbial Thrup'ny Upright in a coat closet in the White House. Apparently, it's one of the reasons he complained about his back so much.

Jackie was supposedly beautiful but frigid. Her guided tour of the WH on TV is a classic - she comes across like Paris Hilton pre-jail.

"And this," she said breathlessly, "is a chair."

re: #90 MandyManners

By taking him back, HRC condoned what he did.

For the Clintons, political ambition trumps personal betrayal.

You don't think they stayed together for Chelsea's sake, do you?

Edwards was the furthest left candidate in the Democratic party

Actually, I think technically that "honor" goes to Obama who, unlike Edwards, still holds elected office, and who compiled the most liberal voting record of any US Senator in 2007.

He is an attorney, he knows the ramifications...He will never take the DNA test.
The kid is his, why else would he be paying the mother 5k+ per month.
