Assassinated Syrian Aide Supplied Terrorists with Anti-Aircraft Missiles

Sun, Aug 10, 2008 at 10:21:13 am PDT

That top Syrian general who was assassinated last week was in charge of procuring anti-aircraft missiles for Hizballah.

The senior aide to Syrian President Bashar Assad who was assassinated last weekend had been in charge of supplying Hizbullah with advanced anti-aircraft weaponry, the Sunday Times reported.

According to the report, Brig.-Gen. Muhammad Suleiman had provided the guerrilla group with advanced Syrian SA-8 anti-aircraft missiles, Middle Eastern sources told the paper. Such missiles could potentially challenge the IAF reconnaissance flights which are currently conducted unhindered over Lebanon.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese government is handing over more power to Hizballah—a decision that could backfire badly.

Last week, Lebanon’s new Cabinet unanimously approved a draft policy statement which could secure Hizbullah’s existence as an armed organization and guarantee its right to “liberate or recover occupied lands.”

“The Cabinet unanimously approved the draft,” Information Minister Tarek Mitri told reporters after the five-hour meeting at the presidential palace in a Beirut suburb last Monday.

Government sources in Jerusalem said the decision would make the government in Beirut an accomplice to any Hizbullah aggression and give Israel the right to hold it responsible.

You do realize that by granting Hisballah the "right to “liberate or recover occupied lands" they mean the right to "liberate and recover" all of Israel. . . . welcome to WWIII.

Now we are looking at conflicts erupting or about to erupt all across the globe: Russia-Georgia, Iran-Israel, Lebanon internally as well as Hezbollah-Israel 2 (with UN peacekeepers stuck in the middle), Israel-Hamas, US & Afghanistan vs. Pakistan, UN & African Union against Sudan, Congo-Rwanda-Burundi, Thailand-Cambodia, high seas piracy in the Indian Ocean and the Singapore Straits. Hell, the Russians are even threatening to base nuclear weapons on Cuba again. re: #45 lifeofthemind

If Obama gets in and the West folds on Georgia it will feel like 1978 all over again to Putin. Would not be surprised if they push to get Alaska back. Why the hell not? It costs nothing to ask and they just might get it.

LLL moonbat logic on that would probably go something like this;

The sale of Alaska to the U.S. was done by the Imperial Russian Government, therefore it is ipso facto illegal. Returning Alaska to its proper owners (and incidentally forcibly relocating all Alaskans not of Inuit descent) is the only morally correct course.

Once Alaska is back in the proper hands, we can then reap the benefits of drilling in the (former) ANWR with a clear conscience, because not only won't it be us doing the drilling, the money will go to support a truly progressive government (Russia's), and the fuel we don't use will go to power the Russian Social Reform Annexation Program (aka the Russian Army). We get to keep our homes warm, be driven around in our limos and flown off to the Riviera, and we get to feel good about where the dough ends up. (The peasants here can freeze in the dark for all we care, anyway.)

Eventually, all areas in the U.S. once claimed by Russia should revert to Russia!

Just wait until they find out that, based on trading posts established in the 1820s through 1850s, Russia once "claimed" the entire West Coast as far south as San Francisco........

Moonbats are lots of fun- as long as no one is foolish enough to actually give them control of anything.

Their logic being,

This does, however, tend to explain the popularity of American cars like Buicks with the rapidly-growing entrepreneurial middle class, notably in Shanghai.

Everyone has been reading too many tech-no thrillers. Yes an EMP would fry within a hundred mile radius (or less) any un-hardened chip. But...guess what....all chips in transportation are vicariously hardened because of all the local EM being broadcast around. Almost all military and power stations are already hardened. Yeh, we would have any PC that was currently powered up bios chip corrupted. But it would not be the end of civilization. No if the launched it would be multiple dirty weapons of low yield for psychological and economic damage.

There is more than one casus belli we can point to regarding Venezuela. Chavez encouraged the FARC not to release their hostages, including US citizens. He has invaded disputed territory in an island in the Caribbean claimed by the US, and also by others. He has interfered in our domestic political processes by hiring Joe Kennedy to shill for his policy of distributing oil to support opposition to our government's policies. His vulgar and offensive conduct toward our Head of State at the United Nations was in itself an insult and offense to the dignity of the United States. All of these would have traditionally been seen as hostile acts justifying an armed response.

The more hizbolla becomes integrated into the mainstream leb political system the better for Israel, in the next round of hostilities.
No more of those tricky precision guided raids or those slice and dice infantry attacks, having to seperate shiit from sunni from christian phalange.
They're all frikkin hizbolla now so smack em hard wherever you find him, and the hell with the costly niceties!

Me thinks the Lebonese pols are going to regret this overture to the Hezbolies. Next time there is a momentus misstep by the Iranian puppets, I'd recommend the IDF take real estate to the Litani, and to hell with what gets in their way.
Correct the numerous Olmert mistakes cause he sure honked it up the last time ... that's for sure.
Off to summer trap league. TTFN
