Is John Edwards Still Lying?

Mon, Aug 11, 2008 at 8:10:38 am PDT

I hope you’re sitting down, because ABC News has uncovered more evidence that John Edwards is continuing to lie about his extramarital affair: Is John Edwards Still Lying?

A one-time close friend of John Edwards’ ex-mistress says the former Senator is still not telling the whole truth about how his affair with Rielle Hunter began.

Edwards told ABC News’ Bob Woodruff last week that he and Hunter began their affair only after Hunter was hired for the campaign to produce a series of films for the internet and she began traveling with him.

“She was hired to come in and produce films and that’s the reason she was hired,” said Edwards.

But that version of events is now being challenged by a one time close friend of Hunter’s, Pidgeon O’Brien.

“The affair began long, long, long before she was hired to work for the campaign almost half a year before she was hired to work on those videos,” O’Brien said in an exclusive interview with ABC News.

O’Brien says Hunter told her that in late February, early March 2006 she met an amazing man from North Carolina named John at a New York City hotel bar. She referred to her new man as ‘Love Lips’, whom she said was married with small children and a wife who had been ill.

Some say Hunter, a devotee of new age spirituality, is given to exaggeration.

A democrat lying about an affair?
Shocking!
Someone give Edwards a cigar.

6 thedopefishlives  Mon, Aug 11, 2008 8:13:29am

It's not exactly shocking to me that he's doing his best to spin and cover his ass. What IS shocking to me is that the MSM is actually RUNNING with this story. I mean, can anyone honestly admit that they didn't expect this to get thrown down the memory hole like Edwards was trying to accomplish?

7 loppyd  Mon, Aug 11, 2008 8:13:58am

The editor of the Enquirer was on Hannity's America last night.

They have lots more to drop on the Silky Pony - including video.

He'll lie until the bitter end. Some people will just never understand the band-aid removal approach to this. Rip it off and get the pain over with quick.

"Love Lips" ... new age spirituality ... given to exaggeration ...?

I'd say she's probably given to quite a bit more than THAT.

14 Golem Akbar  Mon, Aug 11, 2008 8:15:44am

Is John Edwards still lying? Was he ever telling the truth? And of course the dems will cover for him, mainly because he's a democrat, not a nasty/evil Republican.

Sigh. How did I know that joke would be made?

Think of it this way: If he really did admit to the affair back in 2006 or 2007 to his wife, and she now founds out what was really going on because he lied to her, she is going to be seriously upset and would give him hell.

32 Golem Akbar  Mon, Aug 11, 2008 8:19:55am

Even the far-lefty LA Times opinion writer Tim Rutten believes the MSM dropped the ball on this one. And for much the same reasons we give: they are biased.

The Enquirer is owned by a group that includes Clinton pal Roger Altman, who resigned as Deputy Treasury Sec'y during Clinton's first term in one of the Rose Law Firm/Resolution Trust/Whitewater record-keeping scandals.

Maybe the Clinton machine learned from the Lewinsky scandal how the Enquirer could be used as a tool to take out political rivals. Could Obama be next in their sights?

OT.

Just a quick post to think of next time you hear someone talk about how the US (or ISrael) is the most racist country on Earth.,

Spain bring racism to the Olympic Games

Spain (the country whose national manager referred to Thierry Henry as a ‘black shit’, whose fans greeted the England team with monkey chants and whose Formula One supporters found their own special way of welcoming Lewis Hamilton) have enhanced their reputation as world leaders in the field of racism by making ’slit-eyed’ gestures prior to participating in the Beijing basketball tournament.

Clearly, Spanish marketing executives believe the best way to promote good and services is through overt discrimination, as the snap above is actually part of an advertisement for a courier company. The posed faux-pas enjoyed a full-page in Spanish sport daily Marca, and according to The Guardian, no one involved in the advert believed it to be offensive, and they did not consider it inappropriate in light of their bid for the Olympiad in 2016 or 2020.

The Celebrity Media (CM) made up of US and People Magazine, E Network, Entertainment Tonight, Late Night TV) play by different rules then MSM News. First, the news cycle is longer because the magazines drive it. Second, the stories do not need to be substantative because the whole thing is driven by gossip.

The MSM News folks may want to give Edwards a pass because this is not news worthy in their judgment, but Edwards and many on the left have drank from the CM fountain. And as Britney, Paris and Nicole know, what the CM gives it can certainly take away. As a matter of fact, CM seems to relish in tearing down what they have created.

I wonder how long to silky pony has a breakdown and shaves his head.

Years ago, I was working in my shop at home, listening to some really-vintage R&R, and probably moving with the music.

My then-teenage daughter and her girlfriend come out into the shop to get something. As she comes in the door, she sees me, turns and practically runs back into the house, yelling "Ohmgod! My Daddy's DANCING!"

For her, it was probably one of those moments when childhood disintegrates into a rubble of shattered illusions.

This is so wrong. On so many levels.

90% of this story are the lies concocted to hide the affair. If John Edwards comes clean (so to speak) the story dies.

BUT, he already did a partial squeek on network TV, and really revealed only a "mistake" and some other innanities. I don't think he's going to do any more unless pushed.

115 DeafDog  Mon, Aug 11, 2008 8:38:47am

I can't believe I'm going to say something positive about Edwards, but he did have the best line in all of the Political Debates. Remember when they asked the shrill one whether she supported giving drivers licences to illigal aliens and the shrill one gave an, "I'm for and against it," response.

Edwards got that quizzical look and said, "If I'm not mistaken, you just gave two different responses in 30 seconds."

The shrill one scowled.

The audience (at least me) laughed.

Way to go Silky!

Hopefully this is the Enquirer softening up the beaches/ winning hearts and minds (building credibility) before dropping a bombshell on the MSM's Obama Bunker/Partisan mind set.

144 American Jewess In Jerusalem  Mon, Aug 11, 2008 8:45:33am

Rielle Hunter doesn't want to do a DNA test either because she is being handsomely paid not to do one so as to protect Edwards, or she doesn't want to do it because it will show she is not the mother.

She is 44 years old, which means she was 43 when she conceived. Women that age rarely have an "oops" baby during a short affair. Not impossible, just improbable. She would likely need intensive reproductive medicine assistance. Using her own eggs in IVF, her statistical odds of having a pregnancy that progresses to birth of a healthy baby is less than 5%. Some doctors put it at between 2% to 3%. The rate of miscarriage for a woman over 40 is 50%, due to compromised egg quality (leading to chromosomal abnormalities).

The whole situation is strongly suggestive of her using donor eggs. A DNA test would show that she is not the genetic mother. Methinks this is the main reason she has adamantly refused to test. The question is whether Edwards would have been willing to cooperate with a deliberate attempt to conceive a child with her. That is a bit harder to buy into. Perhaps he is not the father, but she has told him he is. ?

His own wife conceived at age 48 and 50, supposedly from eggs that were harvested when she was 48. A woman who is 48 years old doesn't get pregnant from her own eggs (unless she did IVF earlier in that decade when her eggs were more viable, froze embryos that happened to be healthy, and then transferred them when she was much older). Edwards would be well familiar with the process of third party reproduction. It really adds a whole lot of layers to this story.

LOL

Keystone Kops couldn't have done it better.

Meanwhile, Rielle had reserved rooms 246 and 252 under the name of the friend who had accompanied her from Santa Barbara, Bob McGovern. Rielle was in one room and McGovern was in another with her baby. This allowed her and Edwards to spend time alone, a source revealed.

Edwards went out of the hotel briefly with Rielle, they were observed by the NATIONAL ENQUIRER and then went back to her room, where he stayed until attempting to sneak out of the hotel unseen at 2:40 a.m. (PST). But when he emerged alone from an elevator into the hotel basement he was greeted by several reporters from the NATIONAL ENQUIRER.

Senior NATIONAL ENQUIRER Reporter Alexander Hitchen asked Edwards why he was visiting Rielle and whether he was ready to confirm that he was the father of her baby.

Shocked to see a reporter, and without saying anything, Edwards ran up the stairs leading from the hotel basement to the lobby. But, spotting a photographer, he doubled back into the basement. As he emerged from the stairwell, reporter Butterfield questioned him about his hookup with Rielle.

Edwards did not answer and then ran into a nearby restroom. He stayed inside for about 15 minutes, refusing to answer questions from the NATIONAL ENQUIRER about what he was doing in the hotel. A group of hotel security men eventually escorted him from the men's room, while preventing the NATIONAL ENQUIRER reporters from following him out of the hotel.

Said reporter Hitchen: "After we confronted him about seeing Rielle, Edwards looked like a deer caught in headlights!

1.) Mock me for taking anything from the NE seriously, I must have a very low IQ
2.) Deny there is any truth to the matter
3.) Faced with the facts, they get nervous ("I'd have to see the NE pictures before I believe this")
4.) Edwards admits to an affair
5.) Who cares, he isn't a politian anymore. Why do I care about his personal life anyway? What happens between 2 consenting adults is none of my busniess. What is wrong with me, this is a non-story.

So is this the route big name political men take- have an affair, lie about it, deny the facts one by one, and still hope to have a political future. Is John Edwards Still Lying?

Are his lips still moving?

200 TheQuay  Mon, Aug 11, 2008 10:39:57am

Wasn't he running his campaign on the Family Values theme?
What a joke....... nice family values you have there Mr Edwards.

201 Mr Spiffy  Mon, Aug 11, 2008 10:57:31am

Some Everyone say(s) Hunter Edwards, a devotee of new age spirituality lawyer and former Presidential candidate, is given to exaggeration outright lying.

Fixed that

Are they still offering their sympathies to the Edwards family? Or are they yelling about Newt Gingrich? They can't decide whether to ignore this story and pretend to care about "letting the family heal in private" or throw a temper tantrum as in "but but but Republicans cheat on their sick wives too!"

re: #16 Iron Fist

Are his lips moving? That is the only test you need to see if a Democrat is lying.

What if the Democrat is a ventriloquist?

204 de La Valette  Mon, Aug 11, 2008 10:59:17am

This has got to have a looksee from the FEC. Did his friends start paying and supporting her before she was fired from the campaign?

I think this is the Clintons sending a message. We can still hurt you...

205 DistantThunder  Mon, Aug 11, 2008 11:06:18am

He's is so accustomed to dumb juries that he thought the American people could be fooled into thinking the child isn't his, but his friends are sending the ex-mistress money. LOL

206 ballantrae  Mon, Aug 11, 2008 11:15:48am

Why does this even matter?

207 albigensian  Mon, Aug 11, 2008 11:19:48am

OK, so he was lying when he said he had not been lying.

But, now he says that he is not lying.

So, is he lying when he says he was not lying about lying when he said he was not lying?

Or, is he lying about not lying when he said he was not lying about lying?

Or, might he have been napping in the law school class when they explained the meaning of, “falsus in uno, falsus in omnibus”?

What if the Democrat is a ventriloquist?

They must all be, someone always has a hand up their back side...

209 Sunlight  Mon, Aug 11, 2008 11:32:48am

The people on this thread are soooooo young. Remember that these people are new age hippies. That exclusive sex and particularly marriage are considered a type of ownership, therefore open relationships (even open marriages) are standard. So even though there are public manipulation issues, I would guess that all the people involved are fine with it. And their supporters are fine with it. Probably think it is way cool.

Is John Edwards Still Lying?

Let's see...does a bear shit in the woods? Is the Pope a Catholic? Any other silly questions?

re: #17 David Simon

Who the hell names their kid "Pidgeon"?

Probably some turkey.

re: #135 jpkoch

It's turning into a bad month for Obama and his pals at the DNC. First Obama's Citizen of The World speech, then Pelosi going on vacation after deep sixing a floor vote on oil drilling, and now Edwards getting caught in flagrante Enquirer. The script was not suppose to be go this way.

Well, after they win the election, they will go back and rewrite history; it will be McCain who had the affair AND gave the "I'm a Citizen of the World" speech.

213 tradewind  Mon, Aug 11, 2008 12:38:20pm

Here's what kills me: but for Loverlips' lies, Hillary would be the Dem nominee.

It's an old and fairly prominent name in my neck of the woods... there are lots of them, both family last name and surnames used as first.

Some say Hunter, a devotee of new age spirituality, is given to exaggeration.

Who is "Some"? Is that an Asian name? Or is it just a euphemism for writer/editor/ABC news?

219 quickjustice  Mon, Aug 11, 2008 4:57:33pm

By knocking out Hillary, Edwards changed American history. Democrats have much to thank him for. /sarc

re: #47 Ben Hur

OT.

Just a quick post to think of next time you hear someone talk about how the US (or ISrael) is the most racist country on Earth.,

Spain bring racism to the Olympic Games

Doesn't surprise me. It's been a policy of Spain since Castile and Leon were united back in 1492. That's precisely why they treated the Aztecs and Mayans the way they did, not to mention the "Mission Indians" of California.

That's also why Medina Sidonia, who as an admiral was a middling gentleman farmer (he thought he knew which end of the potato to plant, IOW), thought his Armada could take on the English fleet.

re: #144 American Jewess In Jerusalem

She is 44 years old, which means she was 43 when she conceived. Women that age rarely have an "oops" baby during a short affair. Not impossible, just improbable. She would likely need intensive reproductive medicine assistance.

OR: she has been lying to EDWARDS that it's his!
That's my first thought - she was sleeping with someone ELSE
to deliberately get pregnant so she could milk him. I know that
I am only a year older than she, & have to use birth control to make
sure I don't get pregnant anymore (then again, I come from fairly
fertile stock).

re: #221 Flavia

Hi Flavia, many women think that because they still ovulate, they are fertile, but most women over 42 are not, or are subfertile at best. Of course, a woman that age who doesn't want to be pregnant should continue using contraception because of the possibility of pregnancy, but it is just not probable. I have a funny feeling about her. Just a theory. Only her doctor knows for sure!
