Should one point out that from ancient times a decline in courage has been considered the beginning of the end?

In the ancient times of Rome the mothers would say to their sons "come back with your shield or on it." When that tradition declined, so did Rome.

It was the ancient Greeks who used that refrain.

It was because in standard rank formation, a soldier's shield was used to protect the soldier NEXT to them. For that reason, losing your shield was letting your team down, and was considered highly dishonorable.

solzhenitsyn was on a train, heading from one siberian hell to another. he sat next to an old woman who kept repeating to herself...

"people have forgotten god, that is why all of this has happened."

he wrote that in the following 40 years of research and study, he never found a better explanation than that.

The Spartans were famous for their military efficiency. In fact, the very word, "spartan" used as an adjective is synonymous with frugality and self-denial.

The same was true about Spartan wit, which characteristicly employed a terseness with words.

re: #12 RedPepper

What viewpoint would you look at it through? (Oooh, crappy grammar, but it's late and I'm tiredP).

Individual courage is not encouraged nor acknowledged. Community courage is not reported on or if it is, it is mocked. Our leadership defines us. Our three branches of government make a stand for all of us. You can say "well, I have courage," but how is that conveyed as NATIONAL courage? The impression we are giving now is that with the exit of our current administration, we will be weak and vulnerable. American courage is being tested by Russia today. Do we have an answer? Doesn't look like it, individual blustering commentary, notwithstanding.

A high ranking Russian General was riding a train through the Urals. In the compartment with him rode a lowly Polish private, a beautiful young lady, and an old woman well past her years and devoid of any resemblence of beauty.
The train entered a tunnel and all was black. The darkness was pierced by the sound of a kiss, followed by a hearty smack.
When the train emerged from the tunnel, the general sported a fresh shinner.
The general thought to himself "that no good private, he kisses the girl, and I get slapped."
The old woman thinks, "Good for that young lass, not allowing advances on her like that."
The young lady thinks, "why did the general kiss the old woman instead of me?"
The polish private thinks, "Man oh man am I smart. I kiss the back of my hand, punch a general, and no one will ever know."

Heh. This could be fun to watch:

Evidence accumulates favoring the possibility of a Hillary coup at the Denver convention, and it is being noticed among the sharper observers of politics.

From within the Hillary camp comes a far-from-innocent observation by her former communications director, Howard Wolfson. Brian Ross and Kaje Tapper of ABC News report:

Sen. Hillary Clinton would be the Democratic presidential nominee if John Edwards had been caught in his lie about an extramarital affair and forced out of the race last year, insists a top Clinton campaign aide, making a charge that could exacerbate previously existing tensions between the camps of Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama.

"I believe we would have won Iowa, and Clinton today would therefore have been the nominee," former Clinton Communications Director Howard Wolfson told ABC News.com.

Once upon a time, Hillary dismissed this sort of speculation with the phrase,. "shoulda, coulda, woulda...." But if anyone thinks Wolfson is saying this all on his own, for no particular reason, they ought to read up on the history of the Clinton Machine.

There's a lot more where that came from. Go read the whole thing.

re: #18 Russkilitlover

From what viewpoint would you look at it through ? (My attempt ...)

Well, by way of an answer, here is a quote - usually attributed (apparently, incorrectly) to Sir Winston Churchill :

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” ~ (not) Winston Churchill

[ According to The Churchill Centre ( [Link: www.winstonchurchill.org...] ) , Churchill never said this : “We base this on careful research in the canon of fifty million words by and about Churchill, including all of his books, articles, speeches and papers.” ]

Oh, well. It's still a not-completely-bogus way to look at it, even if Winston didn't say it ...

Absolutely, that too.

The point is, though, that because of the widespread use of the phalanx formation, the shield took on special significance for the Ancient Greeks, and losing it, particular stigma. If you came back without your helmet, greaves, or spear, that wasn't so dishonorable.

According to Plutarch, when asked why it was dishonorable to return without a shield and not without a helmet, the Spartan king Demaratos (510-491 BC) is said to have replied: "Because the latter they put on for their own protection, but the shield for the common good of all."

Hence the "With it, or on it" phrase used (in characteristic terse fashion) by the Spartans.

We were talking some about James Taylor and I don't know why - although I think it was cause someone mentioned Roy Orbison or he just flitted across my mind, but he wrote and performed a song called "Crying" and when there was a tribute to Roy by a wide variety of artists, K.D. A Roman Legion beats a mob of warriors every time.

(Unless the Roman general is an idiot.)

It was the Celts who convinced the Romans to change their tactics. They kept getting their asses handed to them.

Remind me, who wore skirts?

Woads didn't wear anything at all. They charged into battle with their "How do you do's" flapping in the breeze.

You know, at first, there were articles in the paper every day about the city and the convention. And then when people started to discover that our mayor and the convention commitees were screwing all this up big time, now I see very little press coverage.

If the protestors don't give in and hold back, I'm telling you, all hell is going to break loose and the city will not be able to handle it properly.

Wash, dry one cup blueberries

radicchio-place on plate
One peach-halved, slice or do whatever you like to do.
Cucumber, slice however you like.

Blend 6 oz. Lemon yogurt with blueberries-spread on lettuce, peach, cukes.

Olmert gives Abbas plan for Israeli pullout from 93% of West Bank

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has presented Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas with a detailed proposal for an agreement in principle on borders, refugees and security arrangements between Israel and a future Palestinian state.

Olmert, who met with Abbas this week, feels there is time to reach an agreement during his remaining time in office. He is now awaiting a decision from the Palestinians.

The centerpiece of Olmert's proposal is the suggested permanent border, which would be based on an Israeli withdrawal from most of the West Bank. In return for the land retained by Israel in the West Bank, the Palestinians would receive alternative land in the Negev, adjacent to the Gaza Strip. The Palestinians would also enjoy free passage between Gaza and the West Bank without any security checks, the proposal says.

Yup, he wrote it and sang it - but contrary to popular beleif out here (glares over at Salem) only two MAGNIFICENT versions of that song were ever really done: Roy's when he was "younger" and had more range than he did toward the end, and K.D. It was the ancient Greeks who used that refrain.

It was because in standard rank formation, a soldier's shield was used to protect the soldier NEXT to them. For that reason, losing your shield was letting your team down, and was considered highly dishonorable.

My last wife lived on the Taos pueblo for a while as a child. We were down there about 8 years ago, and she was appalled on how commercial it had become. I called it an Indian Disney Land.

For that matter, the who town of Taos has become a tourist trap.

IMHO

Taos pueblo and the town have to attract tourists. There's not a lot of private land, and the land that is free is pretty expensive. Not enough water for any real industry......there's no way for either to support themselves without tourism.

The Imperial Japanese were brutal and deranged by worship of a religion that was also the political state.

They invited, and got, the total war they deserved.

I do not think the world has the resolve to fight that kind of war today, though their are equally lunatic (pun intended) forces begging for genuine shock and awe.

Lady Nancy Astor : “Sir, if you were my husband, I would poison your tea !”
Winston Churchill : “Madam, if you were my wife, I would drink it !”

Variant :

Lady Nancy Astor : “If I were your wife, Winston, I’d poison your tea.”
Winston Churchill : “And if you were my wife, I’d drink it !”

( Anecdotal. )

------------------

Churchill biographer Sir Martin Gilbert said this exchange was more likely to have occurred between Lady Astor and Churchill’s good friend F. E. Smith, Lord Birkenhead, a notorious acerbic wit. But both Consuelo Vanderbilt (The Glitter and the Gold) and Christopher Sykes (Nancy: The Life of Lady Astor) say the riposte was by Churchill. The argument was rendered moot when Fred Shapiro, in The Yale Book of Quotations, tracked the origins of the phrase to a joke line from a 1900 edition of The Chicago Tribune.

OK. the German villages were set up like granges. The entire village rented the land. A small holding might be 640 acres ( a square mile), a large one 4 times that. There were three parts, fields, pasture, forest and pond. The fields rotated. the forest and ponds were carefully preserved to protect firewood, fish, and game. As well as nature itself. Animals were shared for tillage, but not food. Grain was shared and allocated for rent. But adequate food came first. like granges, officials were elected.

Good factoids. I did know about seed dispersal by that method. In fact some seeds need to be primed by digestive tracks to germinate properly. Another fact, forest fires are a form of regeneration and are required by some pines in North America. The pinecones will only open after being heated by a strong fire. And they will open after any fire has passed. Thus the seeds are released into a fresh area clear of overgrowth and made fertile by the ashes of the previous denziens.

But they RARELY want to hear our answer: Hard work, CARING about their homework, their school life, their skinned knees and skinned hearts... as well as learning about EFFECTIVE Learning Strategies, and then applying them with discipline, love and oodles of Encouragement and Praise while modeling the values we want them to have...

This morning's news is reporting that Russia has decided to halt hostilities since "Georgia has been punished enough" for trying to take back its own territory. I interpret this to mean that:

The Russians now think the Georgians are cowed and won't be independent-minded and will follow Moscow's directives.

And/Or the Georgians finally figured out how to close the tunnels and mountain passes the Russians were using.

And/Or the Russian war machine is running out of stamina and the Russians wish to retreat with honor before all their equipment breaks down.

And/Or the threats from the West/UN (I know) and such actually had some barb that the Russians thought would hurt.

So for now it appears that the hostilities have ceased or are ceasing. I, for my part, would not be against US foreign aid to help rebuild what was damaged in Georgia. We could divert aid from some of those less-than-gracious recipients.

re: #393 David IV of Georgia

Yes. We could pay for that foreign aid out of Russia's assets that are held in the West. Or with an additional tax on exports to Russia.

BTW, in all of this did anyone notice the details of the new "5 year plan" style import regs in Russia?

Y'know....I went to Yankee Stadium on the 4th of July this year. During the 7th inning, there was a lengthy rain delay. It started out OK, with Sinatra songs playing over the stadium PA system for the first few minutes.

Then it went downhill from there. It was non-stop Yankeeography on the jumbotron and PA system, which in and of itself wouldn't be so bad, but it was narrarated by pretentious douchebag and occasional Yankee broadcaster John Stirling.

Keep in mind this is an hour and 20 minute rain delay wer're talking about. The whole time I was thinking 'Am I being punished? Did I die and wind up in hell without knowing it?'. You see, were it not for the Red Sox coming back to take the lead, I would've been convinced I was in hell....or at least the low-rent district of purgatory.

But now I've caught a glimpse of hell on earth. Just the mere thought of it is enough to drive any lizard insane. With that in mind, click on the link at your own peril.

433 Tigger2005  Tue, Aug 12, 2008 3:59:53am

I'm not completely sure this is a matter of lack of courage. I think it's more a case of needing to re-learn how to deal with the aggressive Russian bear. The Russians got away with a hell of a lot before we developed a counter-strategy of aggressive confrontation. Could that strategy have led to nuclear war? Possibly, but letting the Russians rampage unchecked would CERTAINLY have led to nuclear war eventually.

Reagan observed that when you confronted the Russians firmly, they eventually backed down (yes, that just means they're waiting for another day or another decade). It actually seems like it would take LESS courage to follow Reagan's strategy, since we know it works, whereas it takes insane, foolhardy courage to follow the strategy of waffling and appeasement, as history has shown over and over, leads almost inevitably to disaster.

We are letting the Russians and their nukes scare us too much. We took far, far more provocative actions against a nuclear-armed Soviet Union and we're still here. Stand unequivocably for Georgia and pour in the weapons they need, and Russia would most likely back off.

25 More Hints You're Not Voting for Obama [Peter Kirsanow]
Judging by emails, some of you are still undecided. So here are some more helpful hints:

You're unlikely to vote for Obama if you.....

1. aren't registered to vote in France or Germany.
2. believe Gen. Petraeus is more important than Al Gore.
3. nod every time you read a Thomas Sowell column.
4. have ever caught yourself humming the theme from" The Green Berets."
5. have gotten your pants dirty in the last week.
6. kinda like a good steak once in a while.
7. have accidentally discharged your gun during church services in a bitter fit of antipathy over people who aren't like you.
8. wouldn't mind knowing if your 14 year old daughter was being taken by a non-family member to Toledo for an abortion.
9. prefer the Super Bowl to the World Cup.
10. know Sig Sauer isn't the name of Obama's domestic policy advisor.
11. are certain Obama would've taken the tank ride if Dukakis hadn't beaten him to it.
12. can't describe Obama's position on the surge without using the word "incoherent."
13. don't think having a baby is "punishment.".
14. have heard about Obama's vote against the Induced Birth Infant Liability Act.
15. tend to giggle whenever Nancy Pelosi talks energy policy.
16. think your taxes are plenty high already, thank you very much.
17. prefer legislation come from Congress, not the Supreme Court
18. believe we'd be in a world of hurt if we'd followed Obama's advice on Iraq last year.
19. resent the suggestion you're a racist for treating Obama like a serious presidential candidate.
20. hear the name "Osama Bin Laden" and words other than "habeas corpus" come to mind.
21. were to meet William Ayers, you'd be more likely to bop him in the nose than join his board.
22. list either Patton, Braveheart or 300 among your favorite movies.
23. realize that Obama's Speech of the Century on race was, in hindsight, a crock.
24. wonder which government agency is in charge of healing the planet.
25. personally know somebody who packs his passport whenever traveling to San Francisco... just in case.

Score (# of descriptions that apply to you):
0— You heard that according to Publisher's Clearinghouse, Al Gore won Florida
1—3 You think that had Ron Paul gotten more time in the debates he'd be the nominee
4—24 McCain's your man
25 If only Fred Thompson would drink more coffee....

I used to homeschool my children, but circumstances in life changed drastically for me. My 15 year old would love to be homeschooled, but it's not possible now.

I'm still very much pro homeschooling, and wish private school salaries were more competitive as I would love to teach in a private school setting.

As it is, my long term goal is to earn a Doctorate in Musicology and teach at the university level.

I have been to Prague and they have a great story. When the Russians invaded in 1968 the tank commanders took over Wenceslas square. They were told to take over the capital building but didn't know where it was. So spotting a very imposing building at the end of the street they fired a few tank rounds into the facade. Unfortunately it was the Natural History Musuem. The Czech's have left the pock mark there for all to see.

They did this some years back to the son of a friend of mine. I had spent years working with ADD kids, so I was surprised when he told me that the child had ADD. Sure didn't look like it to me. I sent them off to a pediatric neurologist. Turned out the kid had petit mal epilepsy, exacerbated by several years of ritalin, permanent heart damage from the ritalin.

I've seen estimates that as many as 95 or so out of every 100 "ADD" kids is nothing of the sort.

Dont bet on it, when Bush told Russia to back off there was a pretty substantial American military presence in Georgia. The US Military was returning Georgian combat troops to Georgia from Iraq. US military transport air craft do not fly into combat zones without substantial fighter escorts. Dollars to donuts says in this case those fighter escorts were making their presence very well known to the Russians.

To underline what you observe and deduce, some of the common triggers that can MIMIC ADD/ADS include bad fluorescent lighting (incomplete spectrum); unshielded fluorescent bulbs creating subsonics, infrasound, audible sound or radio-frequency; PINK lightbulbs; Vitamin B deficiencies; the 'normal' sugar-rush/insulin-crash cycle, and butt-numbing hard seats!

/only those italicized, Granny!

And certain forms of epilepsy. Never, EVER put your kids on this kind of drug without a thorough physical and a complete evaluation from a psychiatrist (NOT psychologist) who is not associated with your school district - and I don't mean by a run of the mill pediatrician like they were going off to camp.

Hey all y'all - didn't want to bother putting this in the spin-offs cause I don't really think it's "news" per se but:

8-year-old guitar wiz has reason to play the blues
ELKHORN, Wisconsin - When Tallan "T-Man" Latz was 5, he saw Joe Satriani playing guitar on TV. "I turned around to my dad and said, 'That's exactly what I want to do.'"

Three years and countless hours of practicing later, 8-year-old Tallan is a blues guitar prodigy. He's played in bars and clubs, including the House of Blues in Chicago, and even jammed with Les Paul and Jackson Browne. He has a summer of festivals scheduled and has drawn interest from venues worldwide.

And what, you might ask, would a kid in primary school have the blues about? The state of Wisconsin for one, and some possibly jealous older musicians for another.

An anonymous e-mail sent to state officials complained that Tallan was too young to perform in taverns and nightclubs because of state child labor laws. His booking agent even got an anonymous letter threatening her with death if she keeps booking him.

When Tallan's father read him the state's letter saying he couldn't play clubs anymore (he can still play festivals), the boy's response - like his music - seemed beyond his years.

"He goes, 'It's not how many times you get knocked down but it's how many times you get back up and go forward,' Carl Latz said his son told him. "And I told him that's exactly what this is all about and if nothing else this letter just taught you a life lesson."
[SNIP]
Brad Tolinski, editor-in-chief of Guitar World magazine, said kid guitar prodigies are rare, with one emerging perhaps every four or five years.

"It would be unusual to find an 8-year-old who can play Joe Satriani licks," he said.

Carl Latz said there's no explanation for Tallan's blues connection other than he seems to have an old soul.

"I've had more people tell me, they say 'It's a kid's body but it has a 70-year-old dude inside,'" Carl Latz said.

Tallan, whose heroes are Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan, has 13 guitars and endorsements from at least nine companies to use their equipment. He can read music but plays mostly from memory.

Morning kiddies!
Kerry vulnerable?

WASHINGTON -- Sen. John Kerry, facing his first Democratic primary fight since his election to the Senate more than 20 years ago, is airing a new TV ad in his re-election bid.

In the commercial set to run on Tuesday, Sean Bannon, a soldier from Winthrop, Mass., who was wounded in Iraq, praises Kerry's efforts on behalf of military veterans.

Kerry pinned the Purple Heart on Bannon during a Red Sox game at Fenway Park in April. Kerry, D-Mass., is spending about $300,000 to air the ad.

Kerry challenger Ed O'Reilly has targeted Kerry's Senate vote authorizing President George W. Bush to launch military action against Iraq.

The winner of the Sept. 16 primary will face Republican Jeff Beatty, a former CIA official and member of the Army's Delta Force.

We moved heaven and earth back in the 70's and got that drug BANNED. I was appalled to see that someone had snuck it back through the FDA and was again drugging children with it.

FYI there are a lot of children who have been helped by this medication. My significant other (who is now 40) is a network administrator. He has adult ADD and he uses Concerta. This drug is a miracle drug for him.

Had he been properly diagnosed as a child, it would have saved him years of grief, sadness, pain and frustration trying to navigate a public school system that was more concerned about funding than it was (and still is) is about supporting special needs children and their families.

I'm not sure what motivated and still motivates your mission to ban a drug that actually helps many people function normally in life. I've seen the difference that this medication makes to many who suffer with ADD with my own eyes. I did work in the SPED network for years, and I'm well aware of the stigma and abuse that was heaped upon parents who gave their children a small dose of Ritalin by Scientologists and other groups of people who felt the need to dictate to others what was best for their children.

My point, is that one size doesn't fit all.

ADD and ADHD are legitimate diagnosis. And stimulant medication helps those who suffer from these disorders tremendously when they are properly diagnosed by a psychiatrist, and their medication carefully monitored.

Good morning folks...

Some updates on the Georgian situation:

The Russians were unable to capture or "bag" the Georgian Army
which has withdrawn south.

There are 130 US military advisers/trainers in Georgia.

Bush warns Russia; Medvedev orders halt to action - Putin lied directly to Bush during their meeting in Beijing. Historically, that is not something Bush has ever taken lightly. His response will have long term implications for the next President.

Despite reports that the Russians have called a "halt" to the operation, some fighting continues.

Clearly, there is a lot going on behind the scenes & out of the media we don't know about. As details emerge over the next few days, we will have a better idea of what exactly happened and why.

Obama's confused & uninformed responses (first he blamed both sides, the he blamed Russia more, then he called on Russia to vote to condemn itself at the UNSC) clearly demonstrates he is not fit for the job of Commander in Chief.

Rose, there is so much that touches on this problem that we cannot cover here... but a few examples: does your husband REALLY have a Concerta deficiency? If not, then you are treating EFFECTS, not healing CAUSES.

To quote you, "Had he been properly diagnosed ..." just today, he could be spared the whole 'sickness-medication' syndrome. We are a nation of overmedicated people often unaware of the machinations of an entrenched orthodoxy, the medical drug industry.

THEY see it in their interest to continue to 'diagnose' the so-called "Attention Deficiency Syndrome" because it means they sell ADD medications.

Your experience is valid. I do NOT seek to invalidate your opinion, but ask you to be open to more than standard medical practice, Ma'am.

You make a very important point. Specific drugs should not be banned just because some doctors prescribe them inappropriately or misdiagnose patients. Drugs should be banned only if there is solid scientific evidence of the risk of side-effects outweighing the benefits. Too often some political activist campaign gets a hold of a particular issue and drives these things.

The solution is better education of the public and better training of doctors, not the banning of helpful drugs.

re: #629 Karridine

Your assertion that medications cannot treat illnesses because an given illness is not caused by a lack of that particular medication is patently absurd.

More often, a given medical condition has a cause quite different from the lack of a particular medication or treatment, BUT the medication is still useful to treat it.

For example: surgery, stitches & antibiotics are a useful and appropriate way to treat a knife wound. The "cause" of the problem was not a lack of stitches or antibiotics. The cause was a knife wound. Merely removing the knife, or telling the patient to please avoid getting stabbed, is insufficient to properly treat the patient.

Disorders like ADHD & others have complex etiologies involving genetics, development and environment. It is impossible to remove those causes, after the fact. Therefore the only course open to treating those patients who suffer from ADHD is to treat the symptoms.

Please don't condemn people to further needless suffering because current treatment protocols don't measure up to your idiosyncratic standard of philosophical purity.

The thing that suprises me most about this article:

"A lot of people still have in their minds an axe-wielding, spear-wielding people, bloodthirsty, out there slaughtering all over the place -- it wasn't like that at all," he said.

"It was basically just one joey (baby kangaroo) in the pot for Christmas. And that's all you've got to go to do to drive slow-breeding species to extinction."

Roberts said the Tasmanian results back up the theory that man was responsible for the death of the mega-fauna on mainland Australia, estimated by some to have occurred shortly after human occupation about 46,000 years ago.

Who knew that Tasmanians were celebrating Christmas 46,000 years ago?

It was the ancient Greeks who used that refrain.

It was because in standard rank formation, a soldier's shield was used to protect the soldier NEXT to them. For that reason, losing your shield was letting your team down, and was considered highly dishonorable.

re: #146 UncleSam

That makes absolutely no sense whatever and I call "Bullshit" on your assertion.

Allow me to enlighten you:

According to Plutarch, when asked why it was dishonorable to return without a shield and not without a helmet, the Spartan king Demaratos (510-491 BC) is said to have replied: "Because the latter they put on for their own protection, but the shield for the common good of all."

Don't take my word for it: Phalanx

The hoplite phalanx of the Archaic and Classical periods in Greece (approx. 750-350 BCE) was a formation in which the hoplites would line up in ranks in close order. The hoplites would lock their shields together, and the first few ranks of soldiers would project their spears out over the first rank of shields.

Individual hoplites carried their shields on their left arm, protecting not themselves but the soldier to the left. This meant that the men at the extreme right of the phalanx were only half protected.

And what are you talking about when you refer to a "concerta deficiency? There is no such thing.

As for treating effects over causes, why do you automatically assume that parents who give this medication to their children or adults who take it are just looking for some kind of "quick fix"?

It took my SO over 6 months to achieve an accurate diagnosis, and it was given only after other potential causes were ruled out. This is standard procedure for any psychiatrist doing an add/adhd eval.

But again, I have a real problem with those who suggest that they know what is best for other people or that they understand the sufferers "problems" better than they do. You can only make that assertion if you are a physician who has training in diagnosing these disorders, you are the persons' primary physician, and you have a case history.

THEY see it in their interest to continue to 'diagnose' the so-called "Attention Deficiency Syndrome" because it means they sell ADD medications.

Only if you think that drug companies that manufacture and sell stimulant medications are evil incarnate, and the doctors who prescribe them are incompetent.

Your experience is valid. I do NOT seek to invalidate your opinion, but ask you to be open to more than standard medical practice, Ma'am.

Respectfully, karradine... please don't make the mistake of assuming that my SO was too lazy to seek out an accurate diagnosis or investigate alternative treatments simply because he chooses to take a medication that you don't approve of. His diagnosis is 100 percent accurate and the effectiveness of this medication in his case has been proven out time and time again.

Finally something I can kinda support Peta on:

The billboards, in English and Spanish, would offer the caution: "If the Border Patrol Doesn't Get You, the Chicken and Burgers Will — Go Vegan."
"We think that Mexicans and other immigrants should be warned if they cross into the U.S. they are putting their health at risk by leaving behind a healthier, staple diet of corn tortillas, beans, rice, fruits and vegetables," said Lindsay Rajt, assistant manager of PETA's vegan campaigns.

I'm not disputing that either.
My point, is that one size doesn't fit all.

ADD and ADHD are legitimate diagnosis. And stimulant medication helps those who suffer from these disorders tremendously when they are properly diagnosed by a psychiatrist, and their medication carefully monitored.

My son who is 14yo has been on Concerta since he was nine. He was diagnosed with CAPD...Central Auditory Processing Disorder. His life is 100% better and more productive since he started taking Concerta.

Jon Voight meanwhile has gone from "actor" to lizard~ and what an act of courage that takes in the movie business where no diversity of thought is allowed.

Voight is in David Zucker's new movie "An American Carol" which I hope you'll all see & take your family to see.

Voight suggested his daughter "Angie" Angelina Jolie is a lot like Cindy McCain, who just returned from Sudan, in terms of adopting children.

Hot pink!
With whale skin hub caps
An all leather cow interior
And big brown baby seal eyes for headlights
YEAH!
And I'm gonna drive around in that baby
At 115 miles per hour
Getting one mile per gallon
Sucking down Quarter Pounder cheeseburgers from McDonalds in the old-fashioned non-biodegradable Styrofoam containers
And when I'm done sucking down those grease-ball burgers
I'm gonna wipe my mouth with the American flag
And then I'm gonna toss the Styrofoam containers right out the side
And there ain't a Goddamn thing anybody can do about it
You know why?
'Cause we got the bombs, that's why!
Two words: Nuclear F**kin' Weapons
Okay!?
Russia, Germany, Romania
They can have all the Democracy they want
They can have a big Democracy cake walk
Right through the middle of Tienemen Square
And it won't make a lick of difference
Because we got the bombs
Okay!?
John Wayne's not dead
He's frozen!
And as soon as we find a cure for cancer We're gonna thaw out "The Duke"
And he's gonna be pretty pissed off
You know why?
Have you ever taken a cold shower?
Well, multiply that by 15 million times
That's how pissed off "The Duke"'s gonna be
I'm gonna get "The Duke"
And John Cassavetes
And Lee Marvin
And Sam Peckinpah
And a case of whiskey
And drive down to Texas
And-

Hollywood Takes on the Left
David Zucker, the director who brought us 'Airplane!' and 'The Naked Gun,' turns his sights on anti-Americanism.

SNIP
"...An American Carol, is unlike anything that has ever come out of Hollywood. It is a frontal attack on the excesses of the American left from several prominent members of a growing class of Hollywood conservatives. I love frozen blueberries in my morning cereal - sometimes the milk will freeze into a shell around the berry, so good!

There's a park near where I live that was part of a blueberry farm. The left an acre or two of the blueberry plants intact hidden in some woods (have to walk about 50 yards into the woods to get there). They are untended so they are tall, but they are free for the taking -- damn things are almost the size of grapes. The ground is littered with unharvested blueberries. People go in with buckets and get enough to freeze and use the entire year.

DD, I told everyone about this a couple of weeks ago-it's old news, dude. I was walking along and saw a lesbian colleage walking toward me with some slim, goateed dude-who was obviously not her regular "partner" (who she lives with and has a kid with with borrowed sperm from gay friends who live in the US)..anyway, I get a little closer, and see that the slim dude is a chick! More hilariously, I was with my Dad..and the colleague looked WAY embarrased and sped off before I could make any introductions.

ANYWAY. Now this horrendous bitch and cheater is harrassing me about some work stuff.

Indeed, Leary's from Worcester.

On December 3, 1999, six firefighters from Leary's hometown of Worcester were killed in a massive warehouse fire. Among the dead were Leary's cousin Jerry Lucey and his close childhood friend Lt. Tommy Spencer.[3] In response, the comedian founded the Leary Firefighters Foundation. Since its creation in the year 2000, the foundation has distributed over $2.5 million (USD) to fire departments in the Worcester, Boston, and New York City areas for equipment, training materials, new vehicles, and new facilities. Leary won $125,000 for the foundation on the game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. Leary has close ties with 107.3 WAAF-FM, which in 2000 released the station album "Survive This!" Part of the proceeds from this album were donated to the Leary Firefighters Foundation.

A separate fund run by Leary's foundation, the Fund for New York's Bravest, has distributed over $2 million (USD) to the families of the 343 firemen killed in the September 11, 2001, attacks in addition to providing funding for necessities such as a new mobile command center, first responder training, and a high-rise simulator for the FDNY's training campus. This new fund was established because the families of the Worcester fire did not want to include New York families into the fund. As a result, Leary created a separate fund for New York.

First it was the fake fireworks, now we discover the little girl singing at the opening of the Olympics was lip synching to another singer because the winner of the singing contest for the gig was deemed 'unsuitable for the performance due to her buck teeth'.

It is just my opinion, but I feel that China is pulling a big con job on the world with the whole Olympics theatrics.

I've talked with people that were so awed by the opening ceremony they tell me that China is just trying to show the world that they have changed and have modernized.

I like what's on the second page...

This friend recommended Zucker contact Myrna Sokoloff, a former paid staffer for [Senator Barbara] Boxer, who had recently completed a similar ideological journey. In the 1980s and 1990s, Sokoloff had worked for several stars of the Democratic party's left wing. She served on the campaign staff of Mark Green, a close associate of Ralph Nader, when he ran for Senate in New York against Al D'Amato. She worked for Jerry Brown's 1992 presidential campaign and in 1998 was a fundraiser for Barbara Boxer's reelection effort. Sokoloff had begun to sour on the Democratic party and the left generally during the impeachment of Bill Clinton. "As a feminist, I was outraged," she recalls. "If he had been a Republican president we would have demanded his resignation and marched on the White House." When she made this point to her Democratic friends, she says, they told her to keep quiet.

Has his performance in school improved as well?

Hell yes!

CAPD is not a hyperactive disorder, it's all about processing information. We tried everything to keep him off any meds...this included a $10,000 sound system for his classroom to help him concentrate on the teacher...to make the learning process more one on one.
He was diagnosed by four different doctors and clinics throughout the US...including the top US specialist in NC. Every one of the visits confirmed CAPD. He was on Concerta 18mg until last year now he's on 27gm...still a low dosage.

Since he has been on Concerta he is a A/B student, and was elected President of his Middle School Student Council last Friday. He excels in all sports, captain of his basketball team and baseball team, his confidence level has never been higher. During the summer months he does not take his medication.

As for that American Carol movie, if it makes it through production, then the reviews will get it before it hits the cinema. I can guess "jingoistic" and "washed-up director" could be in the reviews. Trey Parker & Matt Stone's involvement (like in BASEketball) could really help though.
