I hope the man is able to recover and that his attacker suffers an appropriate penalty for his dumbassness.

A few more details....
UPDATED: Bill Gwatney Shot at Arkansas Democratic Party HQ
Officers told the CBS affiliate that police pursued a white male suspect in his 40's, driving a pickup truck, into Grant County. KTHV reported that officers apprehended him in Sheridan, and that he was shot during his capture.

Its a sign of basic distrust of the electoral system (and often simply immaturity).
It isn't it interesting that those who most often claim the electoral system is being abused, are the quickest to advocate the worst abuse of all. . .political violence?
And in case my implication isn't clear, I was alluding to bloggers who frequently make comments about public officials getting terminally ill, dying, or being killed. (As a rule, they frequent political blogs other than this one).

Paris anti-Semitic T-shirt probe
French prosecutors have opened an investigation after T-shirts carrying anti-Semitic slogans were seen on sale in a shop in Paris.
The tops carried slogans in German and Polish that translate as "Jews forbidden from entering the park".
They were reproduced from Nazi signs from 1940 that targeted the Jewish community in the Polish town of Lodz.
Some 95% of more than 200,000 Jewish people there would die in concentration camps during World War II.
snip
The neighbourhood of Belleville in eastern Paris has been the site of ongoing scuffles between groups of Jewish youngsters and youths of North African origin.
France has one of the largest Jewish communities outside Israel, numbering about half a million people.

Shame on this shooter, and also to those individuals who repeatedly call for violence to elected officials.
Amen,
And if the ballots don't work out ... hang tight.
I know how it works WA the governorship was stolen, we just redoubled our efforts.
For those interested, the body of the Declaration of Independence sets the criteria for going to the bullet option.

Really, Hells bells, I ought to start reading more AP articles. Then I'd always know the right from the wrong.
Seriously, my statement was to inform, inform that we dont know whether the shooter is black, white, hispanic (maybe that will be the CNN take) or a German Shephard. We can probably assume male because well, at least two reports did state that the shooter was a man.

So, what I wanted to point out was a nice little article found on CNN's website today. Typical with anti-Israel media bias, the Palestinian/Arab/non-Jew is portrayed as the hero, while Israel is the villain to his heroism. Here's the first sentence of the article:"Mahmoud Darwish, whose prose gave voice to the Palestinian experience of exile, occupation and infighting, died Saturday in Houston, Texas."
That may not sound too bad to those of you who haven't really thought about this before, but let me explain to you what tone that sets. That just told the reader that Israel is an occupier, oppressor, and exiler of a people. Fine, that may be your opinion, but opinion has no place in a mainstream news outlet.
CNN spends about 75% of the article praising Darwish's evocation of the Palestinian plight and national struggle. CNN speaks of how certain poems of Darwish gave voice to the struggles of the Palestinians, such as the implied humiliation of having to carry identity cards. Problem is, everyone in Israel carries an ID card - Jew and non-Jew alike. Finally, they even discuss his crafting of the Palestinian declaration of independence, a document read by Yasser Arafat. Let's take a look at a line from the declaration:
"The intifada has set siege to the mind of official Israel, which has for too long relied exclusively upon myth and terror to deny Palestinian existence altogether."
Wow. Israeli terror? Let's take a look at this intifada that Darwish, the CNN hero, has praised so highly. (WARNING: graphic image)

Why is it so often the mother or grandmother gets on TV to say her boy couldn't possibly be guilty, because he's a good boy? My mother once told me, if I ever committed a crime, she'd be the first one to turn me in because she raised me better than that. I feel the same way about my kids. Are we bad people?
And that's why your mother raised someone about whom she will never have to make a TV statement.

Charles, this does not look good.
I have to disagree with the FCC commissioner in this case. I think net neutrality precludes the need for a net "fairness doctrine".
TV had a "fairness doctrine" because running a TV station required a government license; running a web site does not, and is fairly cheap.
However, without net neutrality, big ISPs could prevent web sites they disagree with from being seen. That could strengthen calls to regulate content.
With neutrality, if someone complains they aren't getting heard, they can be told to get their own web site.

Charles, this does not look good.
It would seem to me that there would be no way to enforce this on a blog site. After all this is a public forum. It would be akin to saying that a bunch of people sitting in a coffee shop talking politics would be required to include people of opposing view points in the discussion. If anything it might apply to sites that claim to be news sources, but I think the whole thing would end up running afoul of the First Amendment anyway and be overturned. It would be a sad day indeed when our Supreme Court, even as bad as they can be, went far enough to allow this.

Since an American website can be viewed in Canada, the Canadian HRCs would claim jurisdiction (or at least try to), the same way an American author can be sued in Britain over a book that was published in the US (but not in the UK), but can be purchased from Amazon.com and shipped to the UK.

Fair #1: We all go into the grocery store, and the store charges each of us 59 cents for a can of corn, regardless of who we are, what we know, what we do, who our parents were, how much we're worth, the color of our skin, etc.
Equal amount
Fair #2: We all pay 10% of our grocery store bill in taxes. So I only buy $50 worth of food and pay $5 of tax, where Joe buys $200 worth of food and pays $20 of tax.
Equal percentage
Fair #3: I pay 28% income tax whereas Joe over there makes 3 times more and pays 40% tax.
Fair is a sticky word.

BATON ROUGE | Sen. Mary L. Landrieu, a Louisiana Democrat who faces a tough re-election, has had her name removed from a fundraiser announcement for presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama.
Mrs. Landrieu will attend the "Lipstick, Laughter and Libations" fundraiser for Mr. Obama at a Washington restaurant next week, but she won't help host it.
Mrs. Landrieu's campaign said her name only was added to the online announcement of the fundraiser on Mr. Obama's Web site as a mistake. Her Republican opponent's campaign said she is trying to keep her distance from her party's presidential candidate and removed her name after they pointed it out.

I live in Arkansas and heard an Unsubstantiated report that the shooter had been to the Baptist convention office (also in Little Rock) prior to going to the DNC office, and had been complaining about losing his job. Since Gwatney owned several car dealerships here, if this report is accurate it would seem to be a disgruntled former employee. I do stress that this report has not been substantiated.
The left wing blogs are in a frenzy, assuming that this was politically motivated. I hope that that is not the case.

Tim Johnson, age 50, a body shop worker (supposedly) laid off from Gwatney Chevrolet in Jacksonville went to where Bill Gwatney (Democratic Party leader in Arkansas) was and shot him. Gwatney later died. Tim Johnson fled towards his home in Sheridan and was shot by police on Hwy 46 in Grant Co. Johnson also died.
Both dead men were white males.
It is unknown what either man was listening to at the time.
Where did you get that information?

Most of it from the Arkansas Times blog. Arkansas Times
At a briefing less than an hour after the shooting, police said the shooter left in a blue Dodge Dakota pickup. There was some initial conflict about whether the shooter changed vehicles, but those reports seem likely to have been the product of early confusion. A chase of a blue Dodge Dakota pickup ensued minutes later and it ended in Sheridan, where police say the suspect was shot and taken into custody.
Shots were fired at the suspect as the chase neared Sheridan, with county deputies, State Police and city police in pursuit. The chase was brought to a conclusion by driving tactics -- a PIT maneuver - that forced the suspect's pickup off the road near Highway 46 and Little Creek Cutoff.
After the car ran into a field near the Winston Clinic, on the northern edge of Sheridan, there was an exchange of gunfire between police and the suspect. The man was alive when he was airlifted from the scene, but Lt. Terry Hastings of the LRPD said he died later at a hospital.
At a Sheridan news conference, State Police described a chase of roughly 30 minutes and 30 miles that ended in the suspect's fatal wounding. State Police on the Pine Bluff freeway got news of the wanted vehicle at 12:06 p.m. and spotted it at Dixon Road a few minutes later. They gave chase and followed when the driver took the turnoff to Sheridan.
Before it was over, four LR police cars, three state cruisers and Grant County deputies joined the chase. Five miles north of Sheridan, the suspect evaded a spiked puncture strip and roadblock. He was forced into a ditch near Sheridan, but kept driving. Sheridan police began shooting to disable the car, but, even with flattened tires, he kept driving on Little Creek Cutoff to its intersection with Highway 46. Finally, after multiple rammings by three police cars, as shots were being exchanged, the pickup came to a stop. The police say the suspect opened fire and officers returned the fire, finally mortally wounding him. That brought the chase to an end about 30 minutes after it began. Multiple weapons were seized, including a revolver, rifle and semi-automatic weapon.
They are now backing off the disgruntled former employee angle.

Gateway Pundit and Confederate Yankee have pretty good linkage to this.

At risk of asking the obvious. If this is politically motivated, why shoot Gwatney? Why not one of the virtually-too-numerous-to-count Democrat office holders infesting most every state and local office in Central Arkansas?

I just got home from work a short while ago, and on my way I heard about this shooting on the radio. My first thought was "Oh my God. That is just awful." About five minutes later it occurred to me that libs, being the vacant pieces of crap that they generally are, were probably going to try and score some political points out of this (I think it took me a while because it was a long day). Sure enough, I get home, do a quick perusal of lib hangouts on the net, and all of the conspiracy theories and blaming Limbaugh were in full bloom.
I never saw myself as one prone to becoming a partisan, but the more I have started to pay attention to politics and ideologies, it has become abundantly clear to me that liberalism inherently breeds this kind of callousness and stupidity by it's very nature. This kind of shallowness and willingness to instantly create pejorative hypotheticals is so foreign and offensive to me that I have a hard time describing the emotion that it generates within me.
That crap aside, I am so sorry to hear about Mr. Gwatney. I hope that God will provide comfort and caring for his family, and eternal bliss for him. I just had a friend die suddenly in a car accident last week, and the shock and sorrow that such sudden and unexpected deaths creates was stunning to me having never experienced before. Unfortunately, I have a brand new appreciation for it.
