The Corsi Letter

Fri, Aug 15, 2008 at 6:08:34 pm PDT

Here’s the email that went out today to the Obamaton horde, about Jerome Corsi’s book:

From: DNC Rapid Response Team
Subject: Fight Swift Boating

Friend —

Yesterday, you learned about the right-wing’s latest attack: extremist Jerome Corsi and his book of the same old smears and lies.

This morning, when asked about the book, all John McCain could say about Corsi’s outrageously false attacks was, “Gotta keep your sense of humor.” Despite pledging to run a respectful campaign, McCain is just standing by while Corsi and his publisher, former Dick Cheney aide Mary Matalin, poison this presidential race.

Right now, you can take the next step by pushing back on Corsi, the media, and John McCain.

Tackle this smear campaign head on. The Obama research team released a 41-page rebuttal called “Unfit for Publication,” refuting Corsi’s rehashed distortions point by point, leaving no smear unanswered.

Arm yourself with the facts and write a letter to your local newspapers telling them to do their job by debunking this kind of garbage. And remind them that John McCain should honor his word by stepping up and denouncing this kind of low road politics:

http://www.democrats.org/unfit4publication

The right-wing smear machine is in full force — blasting out Corsi’s stale fabrications far and wide to a media that’s been eager to pick it up. In just three days, Corsi’s made front page news in both the New York Times and Washington Post.

The media are not playing their role as watchdogs, and they’re letting McCain off the hook as he allows Corsi’s despicable lies to drag this race into the gutter.

The Obama campaign has posted the full truth online so you have the tools to fight back in your community and local papers.

Can you write a letter to the editor exposing Jerome Corsi and his book for what they really are — another hack job by a desperate right-wing fabricator?

In 2004, Corsi helped launch the Swift Boat smear campaign with a book of distortions and lies he wrote about John Kerry. This time Democrats won’t be Swift Boated.

Keep up the good fight,

DNC Rapid Response Team

why is it McCain's job to defend Obama? Let this slacker do it himself. Obama has pulled the MCCain's Fault card a bit too much.

My advice to McCain is to hang out with O'Neill, congratulate the Swift Vets for their service despite being slandered by the likes of Kerry and (now) Obama. Corsi's irrelevant.

McCain is on the hook for something someone unconnected to his campaign wrote? He's responsible for someone else's thoughts and free speech rights? That's mighty leftist of Obama's people to demand that McCain someone who is exercising their free speech rights.

How about this - is there anything in the book that is libelous? If it is, does it rise to the level of actionable lawsuit? Or, would that actually mean discovery by which some of his statements be proven accurate?

You don't have to focus on Obama's birth records or religion to find fault with Obama the candidate.

You could start simply with the part where he joined Rev. Wright's congregation and somehow stayed for 20 years without ever hearing any of Wright's racist statements.

You could start with the part where Obama met up with Bill Ayers and learned Chicago politics from the unrepentant anti-American terrorist.

You could start with Tony Rezko.

Or, you can now look at Fred Baron.

personally, it is not our duty to defend or ridicule him, IMHO
if he were our legitimate spokesman, sure you got a point
but he speaks for his own fringe group
and by denouncing him we feed the left

after all, when any of them make outlandish, disrespectful or slanderous statements, and gets caught
no one apologizes for them or calls them on it

Don't kid yourselves, folks. This "anti-Swift boating" tactic is working.

And Corsi's associations with neo-Nazis are indefensible.

Agreed. And too bad that swift boating has become synonymous with misrepresentation. From my recollection, the swift boat allegations were never disproved, let alone denied by the Kerry campaign. It sunk them but good. But your point that 'swift boating" has made it into vernacular as an unfair, biased, untruthful, attack seems to become established. It's the curse of American ADD. So much crap is flung at walls, that even though they may not stick, they become part of the myth.

The DNC can't point out that Corsi's a troofer, because Obama's base is full of troofers.

Among Obama's base only Muslims like Keith Ellison could be considered Truthers, and mostly they're in it out of cognitive dissonance. Obama is however getting some crossover Troofers from libertarian / RINO quarters, like Lincoln Chafee.

114 JoshB  Fri, Aug 15, 2008 6:36:20pm

1) Corsi's a nutjob, no question. Freddoso's book is far more credible and it's unfortunate that Corsi's book is getting the attention.

2) I read the "rapid response" piece; there are some places where they've got Corsi by the short hairs because he's clearly sloppy.

3) But many of their responses to items they list as "LIE" do not refute what Corsi claims. For instance, they label a "LIE" Corsi's statement that Rezko paid $14,000 to build a fence. Their response is that Rezko had to pay for the fence under municipal codes. Okay, that's a rebuttal, and a reasonable one, but that doesn't make the initial statement a "LIE". Misleading perhaps, but not a "LIE". This occurs all over the document.

4) Most offensive is their attempt to whitewash William Ayers. It's a "LIE" to note that his book promotion comments came out on 9/11 because the reality is that the interview was conducted prior to 9/11 (uh, that makes it a "LIE"?). Their claims that Ayers and Dohrn were "members of the establishment" because some people said they'd met with them is really laughable.

I will express a frustration -

I know that Corsi is a nutbag. I know that his nutbag status undermines his book.

But I have to ask - so what?

If I want to see a left wing nutbag, all I have to do is turn on MSNBC. The whole line up is nutbags (including their token "conservative" Pat Buchanan who is a nutbag).

And I don't have to flip too many stations to see more nutbags repeating the same old lies about Iraq, Islamists, the president, the status of the US Constitution or any other meme that I can read on a bumper sticker in Berkeley.

So Corsi publishes a book with many things about Obama that I already know, sprinkled with fantasy and ad hominems.

If I go to Barnes and Noble, I walk through the door and there is a rack full of such books talking about Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld, McCain, and anyone else who would dare to put an (R) after his/her name.

So the point is this - I don't give a shit if there is a book out there written by a nutbag that makes some kooky assertions about Obama, just as I have learned to not care about the thousands of them written about Bush et al.

Caveat Emptor.

I would assume they include FoxNews as part of their "right wing smear machine"; however, earlier tonight on Fox, there was a piece about Corsi and the parts I heard were not particularly flattering to him.

And...

The media are not playing their role as watchdogs, and they’re letting McCain off the hook as he allows Corsi’s despicable lies to drag this race into the gutter.

Let me put this latest fiasco to bedevil the Obama campaign into context.

Kerry was "swiftboated" in 2004 not by Jerome Corsi, but by Kerry's fellow Swift Boat Veterans, who simply told the truth. The TV ads were far more devastating to Kerry than Corsi's book ever was.

It is generally observed that Obama is a man with no accomplishments and no ability except to read from a script.

It is a truthful maxim that a man can be judged by his enemies.

Obama has chosen to make one of his chief enemies the political commentator of Coast to Coast AM with George Noory (the paranormal late-night nationally syndicated talk show associated with Art Bell).

Even if Obama succeeds in a "total takedown" of Corsi, it just makes Obama look pathetic for choosing such an insignificant opponent.

Or should we blame the images on TV?
No, blame John McCain
Blame John McCain

flapping head so full of lies
Blame John McCain
Blame John McCain
We need to form a full assault
It's John McCain's fault!
Don't blame me

But now when I see her she tells me to fuck myself!
Well, blame John McCain
Blame John McCain
It seems that everything's gone wrong
Since John McCain came along
Everyone: Blame John McCain
Blame John McCain
He's just an old fart anyway
The US could've had the privilege of having me in charge
Instead I have to fight a vote from Bubba and from Marge
Should we blame my campaign?
Should we blame the media fuss?
Or should we go find someone to go under the bus?
HECK NO
Blame John McCain
Blame John McCain
With POW hullabaloo
And that druggie Cindy too (but don't drag my wife into this!)
Everyone: Blame John McCain
Shame on John McCain
For...
The rumors we must stop
The trash we must bash
The Laughter and fun
Must all be undone
We must blame them and cause a fuss
Before somebody thinks of blaming uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuus!

re: #142 JoshB

I did go through the DNC "write your own letter" routine just to see how it would work. They've got the whole thing automated -- you enter in your zip code, it gives you a list of newspapers to which to send the letter, they offer useful suggestions for what to write, then it's one click to send the letter to newspapers.

I resisted the temptation to write a vociferous defense of William Ayers' bombings.

"I remember spending Christmas Eve of 1968 five miles across the Cambodian border being shot at by our South Vietnamese allies who were drunk and celebrating Christmas. The absurdity of almost being killed by our own allies in a country in which President Nixon [sic] claimed there were no American troops was very real."

U.S. Military Funds Mind-Reading Science Studies

LOS ANGELES — Here's a mind-bending idea: The U.S. military is paying scientists to study ways to read people's thoughts.

The hope is that the research could someday lead to a gadget capable of translating the thoughts of soldiers who suffered brain injuries in combat or even stroke patients in hospitals. But the research also raises concerns that such mind-reading technology could be used to interrogate the enemy.

By Jerome R. Corsi

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain has enjoyed strong support from a lobbyist group that backs the Kosovo Liberation Army despite allegations the KLA is a Muslim terrorist group with ties to criminal drug networks and al-Qaida.

The Albanian American Civic League, or AACL, regards the KLA as "freedom fighters," said the AACL's president, former Republican congressman Joe DioGuardi of New York.

They're "not terrorist, like the Serbs and Greeks say," DioGuardi insisted in an interview with WND.

But Islam expert Robert Spencer, editor of the popular website Jihad Watch, contends radical Islam is the driving force behind the Kosovo independence movement.

"There is no excusing the excesses of the Serbs under (former President Slobodan) Milosevic, but there is no denying also that jihadists have been pouring into Bosnia and Kosovo, preparing to use them as a base for jihad activity in Europe – and we have been helping them," Spencer told WND.

Here's probably what it is.

Obama has a list of possible VPs. There's about 100 names on it, including prominent members of the Senate, and that would include Kerry. Someone on Kerry's staff or former campaign team is working for Obama for this campaign and got wind that Kerry is on the long list. This person is mostly likely the "political insiders" who spoke with WBTV. In essence, the story is true, but not likely.

I stopped yesterday at the local Borders. A guy was putting both "The Obama Nation" and "Case Against Obama" out in front and complaining that they were flying off the shelves. I already finished the first one. It is not bad at all. A lot of references. And here is another opinion:

Criticizing the Author and Not the Candidate [Mark R. Levin]

If you read the criticism of the Jerome Corsi book that is picking up speed in the liberal media, you will find much similarity and overlap. The Obama campaign's effort to feed talking points to the media is having some effect. However, it is also feeding curiosity about the author and the book, thereby helping to maintain strong sales.

It's too bad the same media that are so concerned about Corsi's background have been so reticent to do their own homework on Obama. After all, Corsi wrote a book, Obama seeks the presidency. The liberal media were slow to acknowledge the existence of Jeremiah Wright and Bill Ayers, and did so only after talk radio and bloggers would not let Obama escape his close relationship with both. The Chicago media did most of the heavy lifting respecting Obama's relationship with Tony Rezko. And there are many other miscreants and radicals who have played large roles in Obama's personal and professional life. But the liberal media are not interested in looking into most of it, have begrudgingly and superficially addressed it usually after the new media pressed it, and then downplayed it as "guilt by association" — with few exceptions. Not so with their reporting on Corsi. They want to know about anything he has ever said or written and his associations. In his case, they are determinative. And if he got a date wrong here and there in his book, or was otherwise mistaken in some minor way, the entirety of his book is discredited. We are "learning" more about Corsi than we learned about Obama prior to the all important Super Tuesday primaries.

It is not surprising that the media have chosen sides, but it remains frustrating. And this was a frustration of the Clinton campaign and will be for the McCain campaign. Meanwhile, the New York Times had no second thoughts about smearing John McCain on its front page with the thinnest of accusations inferring an affair and unethical lobbying activity. I think it can be said with some confidence that Corsi's standards are superior to those of the Times.

I think Roger Kimball has it about right here. And it should be emphasized that David Freddoso's excellent book on Obama has been all but ignored by the liberal media, but is well worth purchasing.

Is it set up so you can write whatever you want? I think we could have some fun sending anti-obama letters using the DNC's own site.

Is this an example of the way Corsi's readers and supporters -- and by extension anyone who dislikes Obama -- are being portrayed in the blogosphere?

(I thought it was for real at first.)

Interview with a patriot: Jerome Corsi

On the same site: this is interesting if it's true:

Jerome Corsi: an American Icon

"...Summary: On Fox News, Obama Nation author Jerome Corsi claimed that the campaign of Sen. Barack Obama 'has a false, fake birth certificate posted on their website.' In fact, the Hawaii Department of Health has confirmed that the birth certificate posted online by the Obama campaign is 'a valid Hawaii state birth certificate' and has called speculation about Obama's citizenship 'pretty ridiculous...'"

re: #67 nyc redneck

has anyone here read the book yet.

I read part of it last night. Being a Punahou grad I was interested in what Corsi had to say about his Hawaii years. I read the section about Obama's childhood years in Indonesia, and about his connections to Raila Odinga in Kenya. It struck me as being on the up and up, at least from what I have read elsewhere. As I have posted on LGF earlier today, he does not claim that Obama is a Muslim, or that the Islamic school he went to in Indonesia was a Paki Taliban style "madrassa", in fact he dismisses those claims, but simply states that Obama's early childhood exposure in Islam in Indonesia would likely make him sympathetic to Muslims.

There wasn't anything in the few chapters I read that struck me as being overly "trooferish".

I don't like some of Corsi's associations but that has nothing to do with the content of the book. I plan on reading the whole thing as well as the Freddoso (sp?) book.

Interesting report from the NYT about the Phelps win. They mention that there's a muted reaction in Beijing to what he's accomplished. Maybe part of the reason is that no one is attending the games (venues aren't packed as the Chinese claimed they would be - heck, the Greeks did a better job in Athens on that front, and there were serious concerns then too).

And where are all the people? Beijing is home to more than 11 million people, and yet, you see few crowds in outside shots.

Corsi's "Unfit for Command" was largely responsible for the defeat of J F'n K.

To be honest, like I responded to Killgore just a bit ago, I took at as just deserts for Kerry's actions from Vietnam.

While I am disappointed to see the unsavory connections Mr. Corsi has allowed himself be straddled with, I am grateful for this seeing the light of day.

It's true, Corsi could have written a book that factually is on the money.

But sharing a microphone with someone who has had the likes of David Duke opining on their program is beyond the pale.

As far as Corsi goes, for whatever reasons nobody seemed to make much of a deal about his nutterhood back in 2004, and Kerry lost despite Corsi being part of the SBVT effort. Maybe he was somewhat saner back then, maybe not. But there's no reason to associate with him. Whatever he's gotten right would seem to be information that saner folks discovered earlier.

The announcers are horrible. Actually, the coverage has been pretty abysmal. Talking over every single event and they can't get out of their own way. Shut up and let the athletes' performances speak for themselves.

Heck, they sometimes say that they'll get to the explanation of why stuff happens and how events work, but then they don't.

Grateful for this seeing the light of day.

Meaning: grateful for the knowledge of Corsi being a truther, and Cesspool appearances.
