Before I obsessed on the death of stars, I obsessed about ancient reptiles. It was a pattern that would remain with me until decent rock and roll was invented. Careening from one study to the next.

Obama catches some waves at Sandys on Hawaii vacation

U.S. Sen. Barack Obama showed off pretty good local-boy form slicing through the waves at Sandy Beach yesterday as his motorcade toured the Ka Iwi shoreline of O'ahu.

Obama's tan line clearly revealed that he hadn't taken off his shirt in the sun in a while. But he confidently dived into the waves shortly after 11 a.m. and ripped through what can sometimes be treacherous waves at Sandy's.

A Secret Service agent asked Honolulu lifeguards about the 2- to 3-foot surf conditions and requested that a lifeguard accompany the Democratic senator into the water, "which we obliged," said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city's emergency services department.

Obama caught five waves in 30 minutes, Cheplic said.

ODE TO A FOSSIL

I used to sit and recollect
My youthful days of fun.
When all my joints were lithe and limber,
Did I say all? Nay, all but one.

Now, I can no longer recollect
my youthful days of fun.
And all my joints are stiff and rigid.
Did I say all?

Nay,

All but one.

Fashion Designers Hope to Stitch Up an Obama Win

Now it is enthusiastically and abundantly about style. The Barack Obama campaign, which has been actively courting the fashion industry, has coordinated some 20 or so designers who are creating official merchandise for the candidate's Web site. It is the first time, as far as Seventh Avenue long-timers can recall, that a quorum of the fashion industry has organized its financial resources and creative energy around a single presidential candidate.

The mix, available online next month, ranges from T-shirts to tote bags and will lend a bit of runway panache to the Obama brand. The list of participating designers, which includes Derek Lam, Isaac Mizrahi, Tracy Reese, Charles Nolan and Diane von Furstenberg, covers the full spectrum of the market, from high-end to inexpensive. Other names have been bandied about but not confirmed: Beyoncé, Russell Simmons, Michael Bastian, Vera Wang.

"Will you walk into my parlor?" said the spider to the fly;
"'Tis the prettiest little parlor that ever you may spy.
The way into my parlor is up a winding stair,
And I have many curious things to show when you are there."
"Oh no, no," said the little fly; "to ask me is in vain,
For who goes up your winding stair can ne'er come down again."
"I'm sure you must be weary, dear, with soaring up so high.
Well you rest upon my little bed?" said the spider to the fly.
"There are pretty curtains drawn around; the sheets are fine and thin,
And if you like to rest a while, I'll snugly tuck you in!"
"Oh no, no," said the little fly, "for I've often heard it said,
They never, never wake again who sleep upon your bed!"

Said the cunning spider to the fly: "Dear friend, what can I do
To prove the warm affection I've always felt for you?
I have within my pantry good store of all that's nice;
I'm sure you're very welcome - will you please to take a slice?
"Oh no, no," said the little fly; "kind sir, that cannot be:
I've heard what's in your pantry, and I do not wish to see!"

"Sweet creature!" said the spider, "you're witty and you're wise;
How handsome are your gauzy wings; how brilliant are your eyes!
I have a little looking-glass upon my parlor shelf;
If you'd step in one moment, dear, you shall behold yourself."
"I thank you, gentle sir," she said, "for what you're pleased to say,
And, bidding you good morning now, I'll call another day."

The spider turned him round about, and went into his den,
For well he knew the silly fly would soon come back again:
So he wove a subtle web in a little corner sly,
And set his table ready to dine upon the fly;
Then came out to his door again and merrily did sing:
"Come hither, hither, pretty fly, with pearl and silver wing;
Your robes are green and purple; there's a crest upon your head;
Your eyes are like diamond bright, but mine are dull as lead!"

Alas, alas! how very soon this silly little fly,
Hearing his wily, flattering words, came slowly flitting by;
With buzzing wings she hung aloft, then near and nearer grew,
Thinking only of her brilliant eyes and green and purple hue,
Thinking only of her crested head. Poor, foolish thing! at last
Up jumped the cunning spider, and fiercely held her fast;
He dragged her up his winding stair, into the dismal den -
Within his little parlor - but she ne'er came out again!

And now, dear little children, who may this story read,
To idle, silly flattering words I pray you ne'er give heed;
Unto an evil counselor close heart and ear and eye,
And take a lesson from this tale of the spider and the fly.

Star Trek warp drive is a possibility, say scientists

All this extraordinary feat requires, says the new study, is for scientists to harness a mysterious and poorly understood cosmic antigravity force, called dark energy.

Dark energy is thought responsible for speeding up the expansion rate of our universe as time moves on, just like it did after the Big Bang, when the universe expanded much faster than the speed of light for a very brief time.

I wonder what kind of poetry foul language is?

Trust me. There are Things Man Was Not Meant To Know.

For instance, remember "Wynken, Blynken, and Nod" by Eugene Field?

He had some slightly more adult poems as well:

PARODY ON THE OLD OAKEN BUCKET
EUGENE FIELD

How dear to my heart is the oldfashioned harlot
When fond recollection presents her to view,
The madam, the whorehouse, and beer by the carlot,
And e'en the delight of the oldfashioned screw.

You may talk as you like of these new innovations
Imported from France and of which I've heard tell,
But give me the natural, carnal sensations
Of the oldfashioned harlot whose surname was Belle.

(snip)

It goes rapidly downhill from there. He also had one entitled "Socratic Love" that featured what Socrates did to his friend Alcibiades. Suffice it to say it's something that would be appreciated on Folsom St.

I saw the hugest female Black Widow in a nest by my porch. I kept it for a pet. Then one day I was watching a special on them on the Discovery Channel. Sheeesh. I went to kill the devil. of course she was watching too. Gone. She was there that afternoon. She greeted me when i came home. But gone.I knew where she went. I knew from the show.To the highest point of the house to send her damn little poisonous minions all over the place. I tented the house.

Hubby (aka Widow killer) has dispatched over 100 Black Widows since spring. He knows how to scope them out. We have lots of heat and rocks, they love all that. I hate to kill anything, but hubby's been bitten and it wasn't pretty. He's now on a bit of an Ahab kick vis-a-vis Black Widows.

Or Oliver Wendell Holmes.

OLD IRONSIDES
By Oliver Wendell Holmes
September 16, 1830

Ay, tear her tattered ensign down!
Long has it waved on high,
And many an eye has danced to see
That banner in the sky;
Beneath it rung the battle shout,
And burst the cannon's roar;
The meteor of the ocean air
Shall sweep the clouds no more.

Her deck, once red with heroes' blood,
Where knelt the vanquished foe,
When winds were hurrying o'er the flood,
And waves were white below,
No more shall feel the victor's tread,
Or know the conquered knee;
The harpies of the shore shall pluck
The eagle of the sea!

Oh, better that her shattered bulk
Should sink beneath the wave;
Her thunders shook the mighty deep,
And there should be her grave;
Nail to the mast her holy flag,
Set every threadbare sail,
And give her to the god of storms,
The lightning and the gale!

Emerson is too facile in this quip, which is his usual undoing.

All language is born in poetry. A child of Like.

Prose could be considered the utilitarian degeneration of verse.

But there is no fossil involved.

Devolution, possibly.

Language is the walking version of the dance that is the original poetry of thought.

(Ralph generally plods on mundane pathways, which is why he has pretty much become a fossil himself.)

Oh yeah, I think HRH Obama is about to becme His Has Been Obama. The very second he let Hillary on the ballot. She was within a couple of hundred votes of him not counting Florida and Michigan. Obama told the DNC to seat those with full voting powers a couple of weeks ago. Nobody has ever heard from all of the superdelegates - all of whom can change their mind anyway. It is more than possible that Hillary will walk away with it on the first ballot. Obama's "failure to close" and his huge failure in the last six or so states must be making lots of folks nervous.

Language is fossil poetry.

To discuss for a moment. The entire thought is imbecilic. I liken it to the aimless maundering of the drunk on the next barstool, while you are still ordering your first drink. So our ancestors waxed poetic? Then what about primitive speech? Does one think the head hunters of New Guinea to be particularly perspicacious? About what? Cannibalism? What do we expect of the original Ecuadoreans? Poetry on how to shrink heads? The Greeks were firmly opposed to such drivel. " For Spartacus!"
I have nothing more to say about this.

In which case, you would be wrong. C17s are easy enough to look up. There isn't much point in designing a plane big enough to carry a tank that cannot get off the ground with the tank inside you know. American engineers are pretty good, and our aeronautical engineers are historically the best in the world. The plane flies - with a tank inside if that is what our commanders wish it to carry.

I think the point he's trying to mmake here is that even if you can shove the tank into the plane and fly it somewhere, it doesn't do you any good.

You need the whole rest of the army to go with it: the soldiers, the support peronel, and all their materiel. And you need to have it all planned out ahead of time, and the various units and equipment identified, and you have to co-ordinate everything so it all arrives on time and in the correct order.

While the enemy is shooting at it, if they can. Certainly while the situation on the ground is 'evolving'.

Invading isn't as easy as it looks.

It isn't the point of whether or not they DO Killian, the point is that they CAN. By the one. I agree that it would be positively ludicrous to move them anywhere that way, since tanks don't usually go anywhere by the one. (My ex was a tanker so I know a little bit about them.)

I'm sure that is exactly the point. I was neither supporting the idea of sending tanks to Georgia (especially not by the one) nor commenting on how much other stuff you need to go with the tank. An M1 tanks inside a C17 requires no gas at all to move from one place to another.

If you've ever stood next to an Abhams tank without prior experience, you'd be struck by the smallness of it. The tracks are ~4 feet high. The 'sill' above the tracks is 5 feet. Overall length is

The M1 Abrams would fit inside a 3 car garage.

Killian, didn't your Mother or an English teacher ever teach you the difference between "can" and "may"? We CAN move tanks by the one in a C17.

Most of the time we do not do so, because it MAY not be wise or profitable, but it CAN be done.

Tanks do not require as much infrastructure as you think they do. If they did, they would be useless. They do like to go around in small groups so nobody is hanging out there all alone, but they don't need to drag thousands of folks along with them. The crew of the thing is perfectly capable of handling all the maintenance, including changing a track if they have to. Come with the job. The gas tank is pretty big, and they usually carry a few spare cans. Not much point in driving around in something where you need to stop for gas every 10 miles.

The thing would take out part of a three car garage in the hands of all but the most experienced of drivers because of the turning ratio and the ability to see around the fenders. It would do nothing to the garage floor, assuming it was a cement garage floor. (Nobody installs oak flooring in the garage these days, do they?)

The things travel on regular roads without sinking the road or leaving utter devastation behind with a single passage. And they are regularly parked in normal parking lots and serviced in normal, if somewhat oversized garages. No special supports required.

I did not say they were fuel efficient. I said that they could go much farther than 10 miles on a tank of gas. No vehicle travels far without a fill up. That has nothing at all to do with moving the thing in a C17.

And if we DID want to move one or two to Georgia by C17, the last time I checked they had gasoline of various grades that would work just fine available there.

Yes. But Boeing protested and its going out for bid all over again. Northrop/EADS won with the "KC-40" initially. I like the KC-767 because its smaller, requires less runway and less space on crowded tarmacs. A more rugged and sturdy airframe. The A330 has too many fragilities.

Well, they have to be able to drive down a road, or they wouldn't be good for anything... So that makes sense. But roads (at least main roads) are designed to handle big trucks, that often weigh 20 tons or more, and have less wheel on the road than a tank has track area. Note: A line of tanks moving down a road can damage the road surface, especially if they are going over a certain speed. So, reviewing video from battle conditions might not show you what you are looking for.

I don't buy the idea that a fully loaded 18 wheeler would crush the garage floor either. You have to distribute all that weight over the area of the vehicle and then there are complicated formulae to determine the stress on the floor, depending on the type of cement and so forth. Lots of physics involved.

i haven't read all the posts regarding the M-1, but lets cut to the chase:

as for going through the floor, it's ground pressure is not all that high as armored vehicles go, even with the armor upgrades.

fuel use has gone down, as the engine control electronics have improved, and there is the APU that keeps you from having to run the main engine 24/7 when in an overwatch.

turning radius? they can spin in place (neutral steer) and just about anyone can drive them in a tight space, because that's what ground guides are for. if you;re in combat, and can't use them, no one cares what get's crushed.

al that being said, there is *NO* reason for any M-1's in Georgia, and flying them in as individual uinits would be one of the all time st00pid things to do.

cut their supply lines, degrade their logistic tail (they only have so many trucks), and cut off their retreat. take away their air cover and presto, it's Afghanistan II, the Georgian Mistake.

IOW, cut the five LOC's. encourage the use of RPG & small arms against all soft targets available. selectively target all command posts, commo centers, logistic centers, and choke points. hit locally based aviation either on the ground or on final approach /take off.

set SAM traps for CAS assets. constantly seek to identify, locate and attack C3I units.

killing privates is a waste of time. attack the high value, short supply items and the bear will head for his cave most ricky tick.

The Russians say they shot down a Georgian Frogfoot outside the town of Eredvi in South Ossetia today. The Russians - in a stunning piece of irony - have twice bombed the Su-25 Frogfoot manufacturing plant on the outskirts of the Georgian capital of Tbilisi.

Yes. But Boeing protested and its going out for bid all over again. Northrop/EADS won with the "KC-40" initially. I like the KC-767 because its smaller, requires less runway and less space on crowded tarmacs. A more rugged and sturdy airframe. The A330 has too many fragilities.

That said, it SHOULD have been a split buy. The we might have new tankers and extra cargo capacity 2 years earlier.

why should we buy an essential component of national defense from a foreign supplier? what if they suddenly decide to refuse delivery, ala Israel in the 60's? we gonna drop a Bat of Rangers in frogland to get our planes when we need them?

i haven't read all the posts regarding the M-1, but lets cut to the chase:

Of course to all of that. The entire discussion started because someone apparently suggested moving tanks into Georgia on another thread. The person who posted that here was positive that you can't fit a tank in a C17 - which you absolutely can.

Like I have said repeatedly, just because you CAN (and we can) doesn't mean that we should. Can v. may.

re: #256 galloping granny

No, I mean the ridiculous reasons you raise as to why it "can't" be done in a C17 - reasons that have nothing whatever to do with fitting a tank in a C17 and getting it off the ground and back down somewhere else.

Anything's possible.

Ha ha....I love a heaping help of irony with my fruitcup. I kind of figured that after the breakup of the Soviet Union, the factories that manufactured equipment for the Red Army would be scattered throughout Russia and several smaller and now-independent nations. You'd think the Russians would've done something to offset this over the course of 15+ years...

You are really obtuse. I have not advocated moving tanks into Georgia or rolling over the Russians.

As a matter of fact, if you've been paying attention for the last week or so, you might have noticed that I have repeatedly stated that I think this is an extremely dangerous situation. The Russians would just love to trick us into military action in Georgia, because it would destabilize Iraq to move men and equipment north and put us into a three front war - both Syria and Iran are long time Russian allies. And the whole mess would give the other countries of the Mideast the perfect opportunity to steamroll Israel straight into the Med while we are occupied elsewhere.

One thing age might teach you is that the ability to do something is completely unrelated to the wisdom of doing that thing.

That might be fun. My ex and the guys quite liked that aspect - as long as they didn't nick a tree. The Germans were absolute hell on wheels if you hit a tree with a tank, could end up costing a year's pay. Caribbean Lamb Curry (serves 4-6)

2 pounds boned leg of lamb
4 tablespoons of curry powder
3 garlic cloves, crushed
1 large onion, chopped
4 thyme springs or 3 teaspoon dried thyme
3 bay leaves
1 teaspoon ground allspice
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
4 tablespoons butter or margarine
3.5 cups of stock or water
1 fresh hot chili pepper, chopped
cooked rice, to serve
cilantro springs, to garnish

Step 1: cut the meat into 2-inch cubes, discarding excess fat and gristle

Step 2: place the lamb, curry powder, garlic, onion, thyme, bay leaves, allspice, and oil into a large bowl and mix. Marinate in the fridge for 3 hours or overnight.

Step 3: melt the butter or margarine in a large heavy saucepan, add the seasoned lamb and fry over a moderate heat for about 10 minutes, turning meat frequently.

Step 4: stir in the stock and chili pepper and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat, cover the pan, and simmer for 1.5 hours, or until meat is tender. Serve with rice, garnish with Cilantro.

Yakitori Chicken
6 tsp shoyu (Japanese soy sauce)
6 tsp mirin
4 tbsp sake
2 tbsp ultrafine sugar
4 skinless boneless chicken thighs or 2 chicken breasts (14 oz/400g or thereabouts, cut into 24 chunks)
4 scallions, cut into 18 short lengths

Step 1. Soak 6 wooden skewers in water for at least 20 minutes to prevent burning.
Step 2. put the Shoyu, mirin, sake, and sugar in a small pan and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and let simmer for 1 minute, then remove from the heat and let cool. Separate out a little of the mixture to dribble over the skewers
Step: Bring the broiler to high. Thread 4 pieces of chicken and 4 pieces of scallions on each skewer, then brush the skewers with the Sauce mix. Cook under the broiler for 4 minutes, then turn over and brush with more mix. Cook additional 4 minutes, or until chicken is tend and cooked through. Serve the skewers after drizzling the remains of the reserved sauce

2 tablespoons mined ginger
.5 cup chopped red bell pepper (roasted), Fresh or bottled
1 cup seeded & chopped tomatoes
.25 cup finely minced lemongrass leaves
zest from 1 lime, minced
.33 cup wine vinegar (I prefer red, but any will do)
.25 cup thai or Vietnamese fish sauce
.25 cup honey
1-2 tablespoons Asian chili sauce
2 tablespoons ground coriander
2 teaspoons crushed red pepperflakes (fresh)

1)to make this sauce, simply put the ingredients (without ribs) into a blender/ processor. Should make about two cups or thereabouts
2)coat ribs evenly with marinade. Refrigerate for about 15 minutes. Up to 8 hrs for more flavour to soak in.
3)grill in preheated grill at 325. Baste the ribs with extra sauce, stopping about 15 minutes before removing from your grill.

316 Jewels (AKA Julian)  Sat, Aug 16, 2008 4:19:10am

and the last for today

Manhattan Red Chowder

Serves 6-8

8 lbs small quahogs or large cherry clams
4 oz slab (unsliced) bacon, rind removed and cut into .5in dice
2 tablespoons olive oil
3 cloves garlic, chopped
2 stalks Celery, dice into .5in cubes
1 large onion (10 oz), cut into .5in dice
1 medium green bell pepper (6 oz), cut into .5in dice
2 medium carrots (4 oz), cut into .5in dice
2 dried bay leaves
.25 cup fresh Italian parsley
2 teaspoons dried oregano
.5 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1.5 potatoes, peeled and cut into half inch dice. Yukon Gold, PEI, or Maine Potatoes for those in the states.
1 cup clam broth, or bottle clam juice, or fish stock, or chicken stock
1 can (28 oz) whole peeled tomatoes in juice, cut into half inch dice
freshly ground black pepper.
Kosher or Sea Salt.

Step 1: scrub the clams and rinse clean. Steam them open. Strain the broth (should be about 4 cups or thereabouts) and have left about 1 lb of clams. Cover the clams with plastic wrap and keep refrigerated. After they have cooled somewhat, dice into .5 inch cubes. Cover again and keep refrigerated until needed.

Step 2: heat a 4-6 quart heavy pot over low heat (I use cast iron) and add the bacon. Once it has rendered a few tablespoons of fat, increase the heat to medium and cook the bacon until crispy golden brown. Drain off all but one table spoon of fat, leaving the bacon in the pot.

Step 3: add the olive oil and the garlic and cook for 30 seconds,, then add the onion, celery, bell pepper, carrots, bay leaves, oregano, and crashed red pepper. Saute, stirring occasionally with a wooden spoon, for 10-12 minutes, until the vegetables are softened but not browned.

Step 4: place the potatoes, the reserved clam broth, and the additional 1 cup of broth. The broth should barely cover the potatoes. If it doesn’t, add water to barely cover turn up the heat, bring to a boil, cover and cook the potatoes for about 10 minutes until soft on the outside, but still firm in the center. If the broth isn’t thickened, smash a few potatoes against the side of the pot to release their starch.

Step 5: add the tomatoes and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove the pot from the heat, stir in the diced clams and parsley , and season to taste with the pepper.

Step 6: When serving the chowder, reheat over a low heat, do not boil.

Oh, and Good Morning Lizards!

Good morning, all.

Oh, I so hope the Obameister keeps up this act. Everytime he tries to "connect" with Middle America ("Bitter people who cling to guns and religion", in his mind), he then blows it by acting like an upper-class frat-boy prima donna.

Does anyone remember John F-for-Fahgeddaboutit- Kerry's windsurfing moment in the '04 campaign? It had that same whole "Loook att Meeeee!" air about it- saying to the "enlightened" crowd, "See? I'm one of you!", and to the rest of us,

"I'm the elite, you are not. I can do whatever I want to, and your pitiful, plebeian mind cannot begin to comprehend my innate superiority over you. Plus, I look cool all the time, you peasant. Worship Me Now."

When the Obamessiah does it, it carries the same message. What amazes me is that his handlers allow the pictures to get out. Either they haven't got the control of his "image" they wish they had, or they also think that appearing to be a clueless Pretty Person without a care in the world is what the American people are looking for in the next President.

Well, that's all for now. Have a great day, Lizards.

Russia Seizes Arsenal Of US Weapons In Georgia

MOSCOW (AFP)--Russian forces have seized a “large arsenal” of U.S.-made weapons in the western Georgian city of Senaki including hundreds of assault rifles, a military spokesman said Friday.

“In Senaki, we seized a large arsenal of weapons including 664 U.S.-made M-16 rifles” and a number of M-40 sniper rifles, General Anatoly Nogovitsyn told a news conference in Moscow. “There were 1,728 weapons total.”

/Proof of Rovian Involvement!.

Re: the old M40s and old M16s I think any Russian of any rank would see all of these rifles as precious war booty. If he got his hands on one, he’d be one with it. Rusky Generals would treasure it.

I would. The Marines have new M40A3’s now. The old stock is likely what the Russians got.

We used to live in LA in the late 70's. My dad moved us out when the Hillside strangler was on his killing spree, my bikes kept getting ripped off out of our garage, our white German Shepard (cool-ass dog) was stolen out of our back yard and they were teaching some of my kindergarten classes in Spanish. He said "I'm outta here" and moved us to the reddest part of the US.

Green Sahara - thats a good name for a jazz band.

That is cool how they can tell from bones the strength and mass of muscle once attached to it. I am a therapist and one of the things that amazes most people is the fact that muscle always wins when there is a war between muscle and bone. Muscles can deform bone greatly. If there is a continual pull at an attachment (tendon) the bone will deform and make a process or ridge at that point.

Weather forecasting is still based on a lot of hope and guessing.

This exemplifies why Europe has so much trouble doing anything worthwhile in the world:

"Don't ask us who's good and who's bad here," said Bernard Kouchner, the French foreign minister, after shuttling between Tbilisi and Moscow to try to halt the violence. "We shouldn't make any moral judgments on this war. Stopping the war, that's what we're interested in."

re: #371 galloping granny

right this ; President Saakashvili was forced to accept defeat yesterday as he signed a peace agreement that gives the Russian Army the right to patrol on Georgian soil.

In a critical amendment to the ceasefire drawn up by President Sarkozy of France, the
Kremlin forced Mr Saakashvili to accept that Russian troops could control a buffer zone of Georgian territory up to 10km beyond the border of the breakaway region of South Ossetia.

Mr Saakashvili was humiliated further when the final text of the agreement, delivered personally by Condoleezza Rice, the US Secretary of State, removed a reference to Russian recognition of Georgia’s territorial integrity OR THIS ;
or hell ALL of IT! President Medvedev reinforced Russia’s diplomatic supremacy in a meeting with Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor, at his residence in the Black Sea resort of Sochi, close to Georgia’s other breakaway region of Abkhazia.

He rejected her insistence that Georgia’s territorial integrity was a “basic point” for any peace settlement in the Caucasus. In a clear signal that the Kremlin is preparing to recognise Abkhazia and South Ossetia’s independence, he reclaimed Russia’s right to be the sole arbiter of the region’s future shape.

BTW, Mr. President, what ever happended to those Navy ships and Air Force planes that were supposed to deliver humanitarian aid, hmmmm?

If you go back and read what I've been writing about this from the get-go realwest, I see this as aimed directly at the US. Russian actions sent a loud and clear message to all of Europe to toe the line. If they don't like it, then they can freeze come winter, because Russia and cronies control the European oil and gas supply. And we can either accept their reconstitution of the USSR or take them on in a three front war, leaving Israel wide open for the rest of the mideast to drive into the sea. (You did notice that the Jordanian "king" has re-established relations with Hamas, right?)

Our choice was WWIII or riding off into the sunset of world affairs.

It isn't less than 300 miles. It is precisely 386.6 or so miles. I looked it up day one. That is one of the reasons that I believe this was intended to draw us into a three front war. If you look at the map realwest, you will see that Iraq comes to a bit of a point north of Mosul. Due north is Georgia. To the left is Syria - they've been a prime Russian client state in the mideast since the 60's. On the other side is Iran - which last week threatened to close the Straights of Hormuz. Also a long time Russian client state. Putin has been visiting back and forth with Iran in particular several times in recent months.

Today Chavez seized personal control of the Venezuelan military. Also a Putin crony. British Petroleum is having problems with control of it's Russian assets. Yesterday the King of Jordan formally recognized Hamas - despite their presence on the US terror organization list and despite the treaty Jordan has with Israel.

418 David IV of Georgia  Sat, Aug 16, 2008 6:48:04am

The Prime Minister, Neville Chamberlain:
Before I come to describe the Agreement which was signed at M[oscow] in the small hours of Friday morning last, I would like to remind the House of two things which I think it very essential not to forget when those terms are being considered. The first is this: We did not go there to decide whether the predominantly [Russian] areas in [Georgia] should be passed over to the [Russian] Reich. That had been decided already. [Georgia] had accepted the Anglo-French proposals. What we had to consider was the method, the conditions and the time of the transfer of the territory. The second point to remember is that time was one of the essential factors. All the elements were present on the spot for the outbreak of a conflict which might have precipitated the catastrophe. We had populations inflamed to a high degree; we had extremists on both sides ready to work up and provoke incidents; we had considerable quantities of arms which were by no means confined to regularly organised forces. Therefore, it was essential that we should quickly reach a conclusion, so that this painful and difficult operation of transfer might be carried out at the earliest possible moment and concluded as soon as was consistent, with orderly procedure, in order that we might avoid the possibility of something that might have rendered all our attempts at peaceful solution useless. . . .

. . . To those who dislike an ultimatum, but who were anxious for a reasonable and orderly procedure, every one of [the] modifications [of the ceasefire] is a step in the right direction. It is no longer an ultimatum, but is a method which is carried out largely under the supervision of an international body.

Before giving a verdict upon this arrangement, we should do well to avoid describing it as a personal or a national triumph for anyone. The real triumph is that it has shown that representatives of four great Powers can find it possible to agree on a way of carrying out a difficult and delicate operation by discussion instead of by force of arms, and thereby they have averted a catastrophe which would have ended civilisation [sic] as we have known it. The relief that our escape from this great peril of war has, I think, everywhere been mingled in this country with a profound feeling of sympathy.

[Hon. Members: Shame.] I have nothing to be ashamed of. Let those who have, hang their heads. We must feel profound sympathy for a small and gallant nation in the hour of their national grief and loss. Mr. Bellenger: It is an insult to say it.

The Prime Minister: I say in the name of this House and of the people of this country that [Georgia] has earned our admiration and respect for her restraint, for her dignity, for her magnificent discipline in face of such a trial as few nations have ever been called upon to meet.

The army, whose courage no man has ever questioned, has obeyed the order of their president, as they would equally have obeyed him if he had told them to march into the trenches. It is my hope and my belief, that under the new system of guarantees, the new [Georgia] will find a greater security than she has ever enjoyed in the past. . . .

Ever since I assumed my present office my main purpose has been to work for the pacification of [the World], for the removal of those suspicions and those animosities which have so long poisoned the air. The path which leads to appeasement is long and bristles with obstacles. The question of [Georgia] is the latest and perhaps the most dangerous. Now that we have got past it, I feel that it may be possible to make further progress along the road to sanity.

From Great Britain, Parliamentary Debates, Commons, Vol. 339 (October 3, 1938)

now the Russians should be rediculed for looting like beggars

That is what the Russians do when they invade. Part of the whole scorched earth policy they follow. If the Russian military was held to the same standards that American military is they would all have long since been shot at sunrise.

YOu can fully expect that every individual they have come across was robbed, every female of nearly any age raped, every last thing of any use whatever that isn't nailed down shipped off to Mother Russia and that which cannot be shipped completely destroyed.

Somewhere this morning I came across a picture of what last week was a brand new, well equipped military base in Georgia. Today it is literally a mound of rubble. Uninhabitable. Not even repairable.

The US hospital ship (Hope is it?) will take weeks to arrive as it is currently in NJ.

435 realwest  Sat, Aug 16, 2008 6:56:57am

Sorry for the re-post but I need to add an addendum:
"Simply put: the Russian engagement in Georgia has been and continues to be an unmitigated disaster for Russia. She has shown the West - the US, Europe and those who share Western values that she just doesn't give a rat's ass about what we think. Russia is emboldened by it's oil wealth and what it believes is it's stranglehold on all of Europe because of that oil. It laid a fairly neat little ambush of Georgia and either because they lacked the intelligence information the US must have had, or didn't believe that intelligence or figured the US would come charging to their rescue, the Georgians rushed into the ambush and Russian snapped the trap closed. Unfortunately for Russia, I believe that this and their complete disdain for the U.S. and Western value nations, is going to lead to the brink of the end of Russia as any sort of World power. If the US chose to do so, we could RIGHT NOW, close those THREE highways from Russia into Georgia and the tunnels they go through and keep them closed, militarily. There is no doubt in my mind that the Russian Naval Squadron currently sitting in Poti harbor could wind up rusting away there if the US chooses to make it sit there (or sink) and backs the Ukraine's refusal to allow any Russian ships out to or in from the Black Sea.
And of course, secure that ever so precious pipeline.
Which leaves a Russian expeditionary force (it's not really big enough to be considered an Army) without supplies of any type, without reinforcements, without any air support and without any choice but to fight to the last man or surrender, SHOULD the US make that decision - it manifestly is NOT a decision that Russia can make. They have taken their best shot at Georgia (again should the US decide to make it so) and will wind up losing.
Russia has already, for all intents and purposes, lost the Ukraine, it's influence in the Baltic nations, and ALL of what we used to call Eastern Europe (Poland, Czechoslovakia, "East" Germany, etc.).
As a result of Putin's folly (again SHOULD the US make the right decisions here) Russia is in fact MORE isolated than ever; their new "5 year plans" for agricultural self-sufficiency (something it took Russia a long time to realize, because it was inconceivable that the Ukraine - breadbasket of the USSR - might NOT be willing to sell or trade it's food to Mother Russia) is nothing but pieces of paper now; China - even while in the midst of showing the World how modern they have become at the Olympics, has in fact been eying parts of Russia (the port of Vladivostok, much of Siberia and other parts of Russia) with unfeigned interest and desire and to whom can the Russian Bear turn to help it out? Seriously folks, to whom can Russia turn for help?
Of course this all turns on US resolve that if we don't stop Russia in Georgia, Russia may not be stoppable.
ADDENDUM: We clearly lacked the resolve to stop Russia. I'd suggest the Ukraine try to kiss and make up with Russia as soon as possible and that the G-8 become the G-7 due to the US withdrawal from the G-8.

OK here is a story no ones mentioning: Cavic, silver medal winner, who placed second to Phelps latest gold medal, was swimming for Serbia even though he is American born and raised and attended Berkeley.

?

I've been hearing about a lot of unusual arrangements such as this. Two beach volleyball players who played for Georgia are, in fact, from Brazil. They have nothing to do w/ the country, either by birth or heritage, but Saakashvili offered them dual citizenship to play for his country.

Cavic, at least, sounds like he may have an ancestral connection to the country he was competing for.

*****,

How do you manage to find all these articles? I will discuss them more when I return, unless you have PGP.

My only questions now are how is all going to end and what will the future hold. The future of course can cause us real problems with maintaining the family ties.

Yesterday there was an article about the Russians looting the cities and even taking the toilet seats. I can believe this because there is a serious toilet seat shortage. In every hospital, clinic, or other public building you will never find a toilet seat. I can only suppose that they may be more toilets with seats in the near future.

Look forward to seeing you guys soon.

US must share power in new world order, says Turkey's controversial president

Days after Russia scored a stunning geopolitical victory in the Caucasus, President Abdullah Gül of Turkey said he saw a new multipolar world emerging from the wreckage of war.

The conflict in Georgia, Gül asserted, showed that the United States could no longer shape global politics on its own, and should begin sharing power with other countries.

"I don't think you can control all the world from one centre," Gül told the Guardian. "There are big nations. There are huge populations. There is unbelievable economic development in some parts of the world. So what we have to do is, instead of unilateral actions, act all together, make common decisions and have consultations with the world. A new world order, if I can say it, should emerge."

It certainly didn't take very long for the islamist's to get the picture.

Iran should taking center stage very, very shortly.

America alone.

We publicly support Georgia's territorial integrity then make them sign a treaty that ignores Georgia's territorial integrity. Georgia could have driven the Russians out with our help. This whole thing just STINKS of appeasement. This isn't Hungary or Czechoslovakia in '68. There was no way we could have helped those countries without bringing about WWIII. But we COULD have helped Georgia repel Russia and avoided a large scale war.

One silver lining, I don't think Russia's former republics are just going to accept Russian domination again, even if they feel they can't depend on direct U.S. support. They may form their own military alliance. On the other hand, unless the U.S. heavily supplies them militarily, especially with transport planes, they aren't going to be able to come to each other's assistance in case of attack.

No, we could not have. Go read what I posted above about just how close to Iraq Georgia is - less than 400 miles. In a spot where we are sandwiched between Syria and Iran - both strong allies of Putin.

If we had gone in to help them, we would have had to take men and equipment from Iraq to do so. That would have destabilized Iraq and it would have left us holding the bag with a 3 front war. And while we were busy with the Russian Bear, Iran and Syria, lebanon, Jordan and others are poised to drive Israel right straight into the Mediterranean and there would be jack-all we could do to help. (What do you think all this build up in Lebanon and the recognition of Hamas by Jordan is about.)

What truly saddens my heart here is this...Georgia, and all the other former Russian satellites, had never truly known freedom- democracy - until recently. They have had a taste of freedom and now it will likely be taken away. It will be even more painful than losing their independence was.

I can only hope we'll find some way to reassert ourselves. We managed to do so after bowing to Russian pressure and leaving Saddam in power in 1991. But if we'd stood up here, we could have avoided a lot of grief that's coming down the road.

I want to register my opinion that I am deeply opposed to McCain choosing a moderate/liberal running mate to appeal to Democratic voters. McCain needs to stand up for conservative values and choose a conservative running mate, and let the voters make their choice between two very different visions for this country, only one of which is fully American. McCain already has a reputation as a moderate, he needs to balance the ticket with a strong conservative, not another moderate or a liberal.

With all due respect, McCain won his position as the presumptive Republican nominee, fair and square.
He wasn't my first or second or even third choice, but the Republican party had primaries and decided that McCain should be it's standard bearer. You sound as if "we" got cheated because a conservative wasn't chosen by Republican voters.
But ya know, I don't ever recall the Republican Party being called the Conservative Party.
Maybe y'all should create a Conservative Party.

NYS did exactly that, btw, they created a Conservative Party in response to the NYS Republican party being so liberal under Rockefeller and Javits.
They've been around for I think 30 some odd year and only started "winning" elections when they endorsed the Republican candidates. Now they're having trouble attracting enough voters to even remain on State-Wide tickets.
AND yes, I know that's ultra liberal NYS; but I'm afraid for you that MOST OF AMERICA doesn't agree with the conservative agenda.

Not entirely. Remember the funky way the Dems have these days of counting votes, the whole superdelegate thing, throwing out the votes of FL and MI, and all the caucus states. I wouldn't say Obama won fair and square at all. Eliminate all of the superdelegates, add in the votes from FL and MI (where Obama should get no share because he did not run) and you have a horse race close enough that nobody can take it on the first ballot. ---------------->Floor Fight.

Another Nixon gem; President Nixon Imposes Wage and Price Controls

August 15, 1971. In a move widely applauded by the public and a fair number of (but by no means all) economists, President Nixon imposed wage and price controls. The 90 day freeze was unprecedented in peacetime, but such drastic measures were thought necessary. Inflation had been raging, exceeding 6% briefly in 1970 and persisting above 4% in 1971. By the prevailing historical standards, such inflation rates were thought to be completely intolerable.

Name one conservative - other than Ronald Reagan who did some pretty non-conservative things while POTUS (although he's still my favorite President of all time) and Barry Goldwater, that has been the Republican standard bearer since WWII?

Real, before we do that we must define a basis for the definiton of Conservative things. I can give you a short list of what mine are and put yours down and then we can quickly weed them down to a few key points. I'm positive that after that we can find many conservatives who were solid and effective just not well known. Reagen escaped the MSM radar because they thought he was a joke and an idiot. That's the way the tried to portray him until the day he died.

1. A conservative must cherish the principles of the constitution and the bill of rights and understand why.
2. A conservative must be unapologetic and strong about their principles and not seek compromise to weaker demands or mobocracy.
3. A conservative must challenge Liberal/Leftist indoctrination and deceptions wherever it appears.
4. Capitalism and Property rights must be embraced as a result of believing in the previous principles. Free exchange for value for value, and not disrupted by the strong arm and moral guidance of a government.
5. The people's money, which is well earned, is better served in the hands of those people rather than the government but willing to do limited taxation to ensure the constitution's principles can be enforced and protected.
I have a few more but these are the one's off the top of my head. With this basis I'm sure we can find many who fit this definition and have served with distinction between that time frame.
I pick, Richard Nixon, Malcom Laird, William F. Buckley, Charlie Wilson, Clarence Thomas. Let's be real, most conservatives are not Politicians by it's very definiton, and are producers getting things done while other get fed by their labor. So, I concede it's rare to find a Conservative Politician, but it's fast approaching time where we can't afford not to find them.

re: #532 JustMyView

I think you would be hard-pressed to substantiate the idea that MLK, Jr. was a Republican. It's true that blacks were generally Republican before the beginning of the Civil Rights Era, but once Kennedy and Johnson began, whether enthusiastically or not, to support civil rights legislation, blacks began to support Democrats and, oddly enough, Southern whites who had supported segregation became Republicans, which is how we got Strom Thurmond, Jesse Helms, and other fine Americans.

See this brief recounting of these events, which was written in response to the uproar that occurred when the National Black Republican Association tried to claim MLK, Jr.

And see this about his father - [Link: en.wikipedia.org...]

There were very, very few black Democrats in the South pre Civil Rights. And people had much more of a tendency to belong to the same political party as their parents.

re: #538 sattv4u2

I don't see it (Hillary winning at the last minute) happening for a number of reasons. Even with a demographic shift in the country, the Dems still NEED the 'black" vote. If the nomination is "stolen" from Barry, the dems lose that forever. Also, and this is huge IMHO, Howard Dean IS the chair of the DNC. The Deaniacs and the Clintons can't stand each other. The Obamaniacs and the Clintons don't trust each other. Whats the old Arabic saying ,, the enemy of my enemy is my freind.
Deans + Obamas = Clinton loss

Once it is on the floor Dean has little to say about it you know. And as much as the Dems need the blacks, they also need the women. There are a lot more women than there are blacks.

BTW, given Deans comment about the "white party" in reference to Republicans, he should resign as Chairman of the DNC. That kind of untruth and insult is way over the top.

I concede without reservation that there were few black Democrats in the South prior to the civil right movement. But look again at those articles. MLK, Sr. switched his support to JFK after he helped get MLK, Jr. out of jail. The newspaper article I linked to report that MLK, Jr. voted for both Kennedy and Johnson and publicly criticized Goldwater. Doesn't sound like a Republican to me.

No, the point is that he voted for two Democrats in what were, from the perspective of the civil right movement, the most consequential elections of his life. By my lights, voting for Democrat kind of makes you a Democrat or, at least, calls into question your loyalty to Republicans.

Assassination teams are being created by Iran to murder US and Iraqi officials.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Iraqi Shiite assassination teams are being trained in at least four locations in Iran by Tehran’s elite Quds force and Lebanese Hezbollah and are planning to return to Iraq in the next few months to kill specific Iraqi and U.S. officials as well as U.S. and Iraqi troops, according to intelligence gleaned from captured militia fighters and other sources in Iraq.

A senior U.S. military intelligence officer in Baghdad described the information Thursday in an interview with The Associated Press. He spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive intelligence.

The officer on Wednesday provided Iraq’s national security adviser with several lists of the assassination teams’ expected targets. He said the targets include many officials but would not otherwise identify them. Iraq’s intelligence service is preparing operations to determine where and when the special group fighters will enter the country and is to provide an assessment to Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.

Kobe Bryant Schools NBC Tool Collinsworth On Patriotism

Last night typical liberal tool and NBC announcer Chris Collinsworth had a segment with Kobe Bryant of Team U.S.A. basketball's "Redeem Team."
. . .
Here’s the transcript:

Collinsworth: Tell the story when you first got your USA uniform.

Kobe: Well I had goosebumps and I actually just looked at it for awhile. I just held it there and I laid it across my bed and I just stared at it for a few minutes; just because as a kid growing up this is the ultimate, ultimate in basketball.

Collinsworth: Where does the patriotism come from inside of you? Historically, what is it?

Kobe: Well, you know it’s just our country, it’s... we believe is the greatest country in the world. It has given us so many great opportunities, and it’s just a sense of pride that you have; that you say "You know what? Our country is the best!"

Collinsworth: Is that a ‘cool’ thing to say, in this day and age? That you love your country, and that you’re fighting for the red, white and blue? It seems sort of like a day gone by(?)

Kobe: No, it’s a cool thing for me to say. I feel great about it, and I’m not ashamed to say it. I mean, this is a tremendous honor.

Unless it is a matter of life and death I will no longer fly on an airline. I will drive or take the train if it is possible. Had to fly to KC last year for business. Hadn't flown since '95. The trip lived up to all my non-expectations. It is like traveling by bus except that you are in the air.

When we first flew to Iran in '66 everyone dressed up like going to church, I got to ride for awhile in the cockpit jump seat. Now it's like greyhound, people get on with shopping bags for their stuff when they put it in the overhead it dumps all over your head (yes it happen to me).

so for the great majority of his life (especially Sr's) they were Republicans. For political expediancy in the last years of their lives, they "voted for two democrats" (one of which, Kennedy, by todays standards is right of half the '"Republicans" out there)

Do I have that correct now?

This discussion started out w/ galloping granny claiming that the Republicans were the party of all good things, whereas the Dems were the party of Jim Crow, the KKK, and other horribleness. The latter, at least, is true, but the key historical fact is that it was Democratic presidents who pushed Congress to adopt civil rights legislation and that, as a result of their actions, the formerly "Solid South" became solidly Republican (and is, pretty much, to this day) because they did not want to have anything to do with desegregation.

Certainly it is true that many blacks were Republicans prior to the civil rights era, as I've said several times above, but that does not mean that the King family would have stuck w/ the Republican party given the history that has unfolded in the past forty-some years. As I've already said, both Kings voted for Dems in 1960. MLK, Jr. only lived through one more election, in which he is reported to have voted for a Democrat. I have no idea how MLK, Sr. voted in later elections.

MP3: On Friday’s Mark Levin Show: Mark focuses on the smear attack that is going on with Jerry Corsi and his Obama book. Well, if the mainstream media did their own homework on John Kerry or in this instance, Obama, then they would have known for themselves the information that Corsi cites. The media is listening to the Obama camp and using their smears to try and discredit Corsi, meanwhile we don’t know anything about the majority of the news journalists. We need a candidate with a coherent and comprehensive view of the world, and that includes McCain’s vice presidential candidate. Why doesn’t he care about what the conservatives want? If we don’t pressure him, he will do whatever and choose whomever he wants.
In the 2nd hour, Mark discusses China and Russia. Why is it that China can treat its citizens poorly and we have to give Al Qaeda terrorists at Gitmo so many privileges? Where is the anti-war crowd lashing out at Russia, like they did to America over Iraq?

Apparently, that is what they're saying. They forget that "Taliban militants" will find an excuse and will use the best one handy (right now, retaliation for US activities); and the military being there probably ensures their safety more than it harms it.

I'll put on my "predicting cap." We do have a small Mulsim population here, one small "home" styled mosque. And of course, the School of Mines have a good number of Middle Eastern students. There are a few Muslim families living in my apartment complex. Most seem to be very pious, in the least wearing head scarves and arm coverings, long skirts, and I've seen a few fully covered.

So, I wouldn't be surprised if Al-Jazeera is going to ALSO interview some of the local Muslim folks, maybe the local Inman, and I'm curious to see what kind of contrast they spin up.

I certainly will try to keep track of what ever they manage to produce and see if I can get a copy of it.

I'm not arguing w/ this. What I'm saying is that once JFK and LBJ tried to take the party in a new direction, formerly loyal Dems left. Nixon, employing his famed Southern strategy, and other Repubs took advantage of the resentment and dislocation and adopted positions that drew Democrats to them. Here's how Kevin Phillips, a Nixon strategist, described that approach.

"From now on, the Republicans are never going to get more than 10 to 20 percent of the Negro vote and they don't need any more than that... but Republicans would be shortsighted if they weakened enforcement of the Voting Rights Act. The more Negroes who register as Democrats in the South, the sooner the Negrophobe whites will quit the Democrats and become Republicans. That's where the votes are. Without that prodding from the blacks, the whites will backslide into their old comfortable arrangement with the local Democrats."

The goal of political parties is to win elections. Once the breach created by civil rights legislation occurred, the Republican Party took advantage of it by playing to the issues that had driven Southern Dems away from the party.

:)

I think, thanks to all the helpful people.

I'm on vacation in the mountains, yet still with DSL. I guess it's had the intended effect. Don't you wish you could be that laid back?

It's after twelve. Think I'll have a glass of blackberry wine.

Yes, I wish I were on vacation right now.

Hope you have a great time!

I'm 54 and am clueless about "Nazgul". But "Quatloos" is a Star Trek reference (money used by Ferengis, who are a race of aliens)

Are you and COGNITO Siamese Twins attached at the back so only one of you at a time can type and see the screen !?!?!?

LOL!

re: #685 tommygum

Yeah. Not a theatre guy, but powerful performances.

Thanks. The show was nominated for three awards, won best supporting actress and even had a positive review in Variety Magazine out of LA. It certainly was a little highlight in my writing career. And of course, much thanks to Joanne Greenberg who wrote the book in 1963. She is a friend of mine and I have permission to adapt any of her books, which I have done 3 times, including her most recent, which will have a public reading this Oct.

Dude; ferengis use gold pressed latinum for money. Quatloos was cash used by some dudes living in glass balls on the original series. Sheesh, I'm gonna be 50 in Jan. and I know this stuff! I need to get you and Walter a pop culture guide to help you out! :)

I thought "Quatloos" were those big white pills I took in the 70's which came out of Mexico.

I heard that story. The woman is desperate and loony both. But she has got all the damn unions in this state in her pocket.

And the indians, state employees....

All she has to carry is the I-5 corridor counties and Spokane, Tri-Cities, and she wins.

Nope, can't do grass. There was a time I could drink any man under the table, but pot, two hits and I'm out for 8 hours. Don't know why. I tried a few hits a couple of years ago, boink, deep sleep.

703 tommygum  Sat, Aug 16, 2008 9:40:21am

Walter: Just watched the clip again. Which is the supporting actress? The younger or older woman? BTW, "she looked like someone who had been beaten to death from the inside", great line. I'm gonna write that one down.

re: #674 pingjockey

I see, so if a repub is south of the Mason/Dixon line, they're a former donk who joined the repubs cause they're racist bastards. Thanks for clearing that up.

I wouldn't say that's true for individuals; what I'm saying is that the Republican Party used a certain set of ideas and themes to win in the South. These transformations are far enough in the past that most Southern Republicans probably think of themselves and their families as always having been Republicans, but if they were to reach back a couple of generations they might find some Donkey ancestors.

I'm not accusing anybody of anything, in particular. I'm just pointing out how things have changed historically.

I know what you mean. Back then, I also prefered drinking. BUT ,,, I did once try to snort the center line on Main street !

The older woman, the German accented doctor. The woman who delivered that line was the mother.
Thanks

The young girl was nominated for best actress, but it was her first role her in Denver and she didn't get it. Sort of like first nominee's at the Oscars, rarely ever get it.

We were nominated for best actress, best supporting actress and best new play.

A play about Columbine, called "Bingo Boyz" won best new play. Mass shooting always do.

A Saturday Funny

Doctor John had sex with one of his patients and felt guilty all day
long. No matter how much he tried to forget about it, he just
couldn't. The guilt and sense of betrayal was overwhelming.

But every once in a while he'd hear an internal, reassuring voice in
his head that said: "John, don't worry about it. You aren't the first
medical practitioner to have sex with one of their patients and you
won't be the last. And you're single. Just let it go, John."

But invariably another voice in his head would bring him back to
reality whispering, "John............................ You're a
Veterinarian, you sick bastard."
