RoP Kills 43 in Algeria

Tue, Aug 19, 2008 at 8:47:06 am PDT

Another attack by the Religion of Peace in Algeria: Suicide attack at Algerian police academy kills 43.

ALGIERS, Algeria - A suicide bomber rammed an explosives-rigged car into a police academy as recruits lined up to register for classes, killing at least 43 people. It was the deadliest attack in recent years in the North African country.

The Interior Ministry said 42 civilians and a police officer were killed in the attack early Tuesday in the town of Les Issers, some 35 miles east of the capital, Algiers, the state-run APS news agency said.

The blast ripped off parts of the policy academy’s roof, and damaged its facade. Photos transmitted by APS showed bodies wrapped in yellow plastic bags or blankets lying amid the rubble. Nearby houses and passing cars were also damaged.

And again. And yes, once again the Islamists slaughter innocents - most Muslims at that. That's a hallmark of the jihadis the world over. And sooner or later (sooner I hope) the rest of the Muslims will realize the folly of jihad and put it down themselves.

RoP in Pakistan....
23 dead in Pakistan hospital suicide blast: police

A suicide bomber killed 23 people at a hospital in northwest Pakistan Tuesday, highlighting the militant challenge facing the government after the resignation of Pervez Musharraf.

In other violence in the wake of the US-backed president's decision to bow out on Monday, five soldiers and 13 Taliban militants were killed in a tribal region bordering Afghanistan.

The suicide attack happened as Shiite Muslims gathered to protest over the death of a man in a suspected sectarian attack in the troubled town of Dera Ismail Khan, said North West Frontier Province police chief Malik Naveed Khan.

Busy day.

They didn't plan it, train the people, find the idiot suicide bomber, do all the intelligence work, and execute the plan all in one day.

With all due respect galloping granny, Mush was the best ally the US could have had in Pakistan - not that he was effective in countering the jihadists, but he stood for countering the jihadists (see, e.g., the attack on the Red Mosque).
That our *spit* State Department didn't understand that is nearly a crime.
Pakistan's current state of non-government works PRECISELY into the Jihadists hands.

If you examine Judaism/Christianity and islam, comparing them point by point as they are interpreted today, you will see that "allah" is literally the opposite of the Judeochristian G_d.

This affects their entire world view. What we call good is to them bad. What we think is bad or evil or sick is to them commanded by "allah." What we call "normal" psychology is to them highly aberrant - as their "normal" is to us.

re: #5 galloping granny

No credit to Musharraf, but I kinda think he was viewed by many in that part of the world like the Shah of Iran. Whether folks were responding to his ouster or it is coincidental I really wonder. But I am sure they are celebrating all over Dar al-Islam now that our "puppet" has been deposed. His ouster is definitely a propaganda victory for them.

I'm not disputing that realwest. And frankly I think that every single employee and "analyst" working for our "State" department should be fired. Musharraf has been in trouble for a long time - friend or not. And he did not have the kind of control over things that would even have allowed us to overtly prop him up. Truthfully, he should have gone several years back. Trying to be friendly with Musharaf has kept us from taking actions and saying things that would have far better served our interests.

re: #10 lawhawk
Good morning lawhawk! That's NOT pie-in-the-sky thinking, either. It was only AFTER the Iraqi people started to realize that the "freedom fighters" were killing mostly Muslims (of all types) that they started turning on the "freedom fighters". The ONE MAJOR requirement for fighting a successful guerrilla war is that the guerrillas MUST have the sentiments of more than half of the population on their side. The Taliban are doing their best to insure that never happens (and they sure as hell don't have it now, either).

26 laZardo  Tue, Aug 19, 2008 9:04:25am

re: #25 realwest

That means they're going to get desperate...and that's where it's all going to come down to that thin red line between justice and total destruction.

I suspect that same thing's happening in Iran. What few stories I've heard about the economic situation there are grave, and they just can't seem to completely wipe out the secularists from the Shah's days. Reform may be slow but it's starting to chip away at the Ayatollahs' foundations...and they recognize that and are afraid.

I hope that myself, but I also see two problems:

1) Jihad is simply too entwined with the actual religion. There are simply way too many verses in the Koran ordering Muslims to make armed Jihad against non-believers.

2) Muslim fatalism. If you are killed by a fellow Muslim, it's because Allah decided it was time for you to die. If you escape, Allah protected you. Nothing happens without Allah's direct intervention. (I just wish they'd apply it to Israel. Israel exists because Allah has caused it to happen.)

28 Occasional Reader  Tue, Aug 19, 2008 9:06:02am

Do the islamists really want to get the Algerian army all riled up again?

Because it didn't work out so well for them the last time.

re: #24 galloping granny

I guess I am more pessimistic about our response.

I would prefer a weak guy trying to keep a lid on Pakistan rather then someone who does not really care about our concerns. American's have a very low tolerance for direct military action. We are not going to send troops into the Pakistani hinterlands anytime soon.

On the other hand, Americans do not pay attention to proxy wars because they are too abstract to understand. That is why we use people like Musharraf.

re: #753 realwest

Didja tell Coke WHY you did that? I mean if enough folks DO BITCH AND MOAN about Coke's P.C. attitudes, those attitudes will change as soon as their bottom line changes.

No, the reason I kicked them out had nothing to do with this issue...I didn't know about it at the time. As a small business owner Coke tried to mussel me on pricing. They were going to increase my price per box by $10 and told I couldn't buy from my suppliers anymore...just Coke USA. They gave me three choices.
1. Buy from Coke USA @ $10 more per case and I get to use all of the equipment provided by Coke.
2. Buy from my regular supplier at a better rate, but Coke USA would pull my equipment and I would have to buy new equipment.
3. Buy from Pepsi.

I told them to get the fu*k out of my restaurant and started using Pepsi the next week.

True story...Coke was playing the Russian game...buy from me or else.

Coke still comes in trying to get back the business...I'll have a new reason to say HELL NO next time.

Can someone point me to the section of the Koran that tells the "servants of Allah" that police recruits are evil and must be killed. We heard the same stories out of Iraq last year. Why is it always police recruits lining up getting blown up? Just wondering....

So upsetting that these worthless, ignorant b@stards are killing the best men in the world. "How about we kill them, first?" /jaynecobb

If this would have been in Tikrit or Kabul we would have been had crawls zipping by and a reminder every thirty minutes on the tele.
Goes back to the middle ages. The mooslims only started killing the crusaders once they got bored killing other mooslims of indifferent sects. Maybe the Algerians are considered "low lying fruit".
