Obama's strangely overlooked 1981 trip to Pakistan -
[Link: blogs.abcnews.com...]
[Link: patdollard.com...]

“…recently I came across a few pieces of the puzzle that have been mostly unknown to the public:

While at Occidental college he became close friends with two Pakistanis, Mohammed Hasan Chandoo and Wahid Hamid. In 1981 he traveled with Mohammad Hasan Chandoo to Pakistan and stayed there for about three weeks. It is rather unusual for a less-than-wealthy college kid to choose far-away Pakistan as a summer break destination, but not necessarily suspicious. For some reason however, Obama has never publicly cited these relationships or his time in Pakistan. Why not?

In his book “Dreams from My Father,” Obama does talk of having a different Pakistani roommate when he later moved to New York, a man he calls Sadik who “had overstayed his tourist visa and now made a living in New York’s high-turnover, illegal immigrant work force, waiting on tables.” Strangely, Mr. Obama, the campaign and his publisher have not provided any details about the identity of Sadik.

…why all the secrecy about his travel to Pakistan in 1981? Why no mention of it before in public or in his two books about himself? Why the mystery about “Sadik”?”

12 karmic_inquisitor  Tue, Aug 19, 2008 3:15:31pm

Drudge is floating the idea that Michigan Governor Kathleen Sebelius may get the Obama VP slot.

If that is the case:

1) He is really going to make an enemy out of Hillary and her supporters.

2) He is in deep kimshi in Michigan having to defend a blue state that way.

Actually, I think both will happen. The truly peace-loving hippies will cry, then hit the bong, then everything will be cool again. But the unhinged, scribbling in notebooks, posting nonsensical never-ending blogrants, truly angry ones? Not only are they going to cause trouble, they'll actually be planning trouble days in advance.

BTW, I hope I'm not right on this one.

World’s Financial Problems Solved: Afghan Hobo Finds $723 Trillion in Ditch

KANDAHAR, AFGHANISTAN (AP) — All financial problems worldwide were solved yesterday when a hobo from Kandahar found $723 trillion in a ditch.

“I was just looking for a shady place to lie down,” the unemployed vagabond said through a translator. “I prefer ditches, when I can find them. This seemed more comfortable than the average ditch, but then I realized, ‘Hey, I’m lying on money.’”

The hobo, who goes by the single name Abdul, hasn’t yet decided what he wants to do with the money. “They tell me there’s enough here to pay off all national debts, provide free health care for everyone in the world, to end starvation and eliminate class differences around the globe,” Abdul said. “But then where am I going to sleep?”

Upon hearing news of the discovery, Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve, said, “Well, looks like I wasted my entire life. Sixty years of studying economics and enforcing monetary policy for nothing. I could have been partying the whole time.”

Certainly will try! Orientation is this Monday, and I have to get a feeling for the mind-set of the place. Originally was interviewing for a position as a science teacher, but I am six credits shy of undergrad course to be 'highly qualified' by NJ standards. They saw all my Communication courses and private sector work as a newsman in Mexico City and my free-lance/published work. during my three interviews, I got the distinct impression that I was among some like-minded professionals, but only time will tell.

And yes, I mentioned minority rioting in the last thread as well. But I think that won't necessarily be spontaneous either. What will happen is, these socialist groups like ANSWER and WCW will hold "Take Back the Vote" rallies within hours of the defeat (strangely enough, the permits for these rallies will be filed days in advance), accusing America of illegally suppressing the minority vote yet again. They'll have a bunch of firebrand speakers extolling the virtues of sticking it to the man, followed by a "peaceful march" which, of course, will wind up being anything but (by design). This could go on for days depending on how invested the socialist groups want to get into street violence. If there's even a hint that their antics could spark a recount/revote, they'll double the violence.

Nope, but you might be able to find the one I saw, as it was a news video. He was crying bitter tears because people were being so mean to Barak. Mascara running down his face (guess nobody ever told him to buy the tear proof stuff) guy hair on one side, bleached blond curls on the other. It certainly made it very hard to take anything he has ever said or ever will say with any degree of seriousness.

Barack Obama, like many other habitual liars, cannot discern the difference between the truth and a lie. Part of this stems from his lack of a firm moral code - those no pangs of conscience or sense of true sin. The rest of it is because most habitual liars consider "truth" to be whatever they think will do them the most good at the minute. That's why he is such a "flip flopper."

Alright, animal lovers. Need your help.

I found a baby squirrel that had apparently fallen out of its nest, laying on the hot sidewalk in downtown St. Paul. I just couldn't leave him there. I had to rescue it.

Now what do I do?

Find a vet, shelter, or website who can advise. Someone here knows of one. Refered to it when a beloved lizard had a problem with a sick dove several months ago.

Animal control?

I think you can raise squirrels sort of the way you can raise sugar gliders. Some milk initially, some apple juice, peanuts/acorns/walnuts from time to time, then put back in the wild.

Um, sure we did. In 2000. We had the most chaotic presidential election I can remember. And still, not a hint of civil unrest.

There was no racial component in 2000. As an example, Bobby kennedy assasinated, no riots, MLK assasinated riots.

When I found one of these as a child, we fed it evaporated milk formula (one can evap milk, add water to make 32 ounces - but that is for a human baby) out of a doll bottle. Very frequently. Luckily there were 3 of us. He lived to a ripe old age. Keep him warm.

Why is Barack Obama such a prevaricator? He made the statement today that John McCain was attacking his character and his patriotism.

At what point has John McCain ever remotely questioned his patriotism? The answer is: he hasn't. That's why the Obama campaign provides no quote or video evidence of such.

But isn't that always the way with a Leftist? Create a strawman and attack it for all its worth. Perhaps he's touchy about his patriotism because every moment he gets he faults America--on foreign soil, even--rather than praise it...

Obama doesn't do it to respond to McCain's imagined attacks - he does it because everytime he cries 'racist' or 'patriot attacker' he sends a thrill up the legs of his fanatic supporters that rev up their enthusiasm to the point that they circle Election Day on their calendars once again with the bloody froth from their lips.

I don't know about being a flip flopper.. But i know this..
His inability to acknowledge evil in the world..( except all his examples were american short comings) really showed his mindset.
He wasn't able to say..yes there is evil in the world..His answer was so nuanced I'm not sure where he is coming from...

Been there, done that. I nursed a baby squirrel that had fallen out of the nest that couldn't use her rear legs. It was in the fall, so I placed her on a towel with a heating pad underneath. Every day, I would place a plate of two Ritz crackers with peanut butter and soaked in milk. I cared for her over the winter and by spring she was anxious to go outside with full use of her back limbs. I let her go in the spring and she returned the rest of the summer to get peanuts from me. Kinda cool to rescue a wild animal. I took a lot of grief from friends, but the satisfaction was more than worth it.

After not-so-much heavy thought, my personal (frivolous) consideration for McCain V.P. nominees has yielded the following three, any one of which I believe would put McCain over the top for a November win:

1. John Elway
Brings to the ticket: Republican quarterback with a rocket for an arm (for pelting hippies with urine bags from distances up to 80 yards).

2. Julianne Hough
Brings to the ticket: Makes Paris Hilton look like kelp (and actually has a discernable talent).

3. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson
Brings to the ticket: Can talk terrific smack while kicking some Russkie's ass.

If they issue this can, then I can guarantee you that never again will a single coke product - and that include Minute Maid - ever pass my lips or enter my home. And we drink an awful lot of coke products here.

OMG -

Just released - LA Times / Bloomberg poll - Obama +2.

It is a "Registered Voter" poll which will tend to overstate Obama's strength.

They are "blaming" McCain's "Negative attacks".

So that explains why Obama is accusing McCain of questioning his patriotism (which McCain never did).

A negative campaign will tend to get voters to be risk averse - it is where Obama is going but won't get him anywhere (other than to lose his halo).

272 Mich-again  Tue, Aug 19, 2008 4:18:02pm

Coke is probably going with the Crescent can in Muslim markets to try to offset all the idle chatter about whether Coca-Cola is haram or halal. Muslims love conspiracy theories and Coke has never divulged the secret ingredient in the recipe and it might be vanilla extract and thats all it takes to start a controversy.

But sucking up to the Islamic world won't help stop the questions. Nope, they'll just think it was a deception to make Muslims think Coke gives a crap about their religion.

Mazeman/Kumbaya,

Even if I agreed that your banning was excessively harsh, you do yourself no favors by coming back here to pick a new fight about it with Charles. The decision was made. A banning is a banning. "This is true internet Dictatorship", after all.

Charles has the right to do whatever he wishes. It's his site, there's no argument there.

Muslims will eat food with kosher certification in the absence of a halal certification, so maybe.

Perhaps for the Muslim cans the Coke people will add some extra squiggles to the swoosh to spell Mohammed's name.

They are putting the Muslim Crescent on it!

Drudge is floating the idea that Michigan Governor Kathleen Sebelius may get the Obama VP slot.

If that is the case:

1) He is really going to make an enemy out of Hillary and her supporters.

2) He is in deep kimshi in Michigan having to defend a blue state that way.

Kathleen Sebelius is the governor of Kansas. She is good at converting life long Republicans into Democrats. Her Lt. Gov changed parties. Some crap about the party running away from him, but when he was coming up several years ago he passed out brochures at my house. The party didn't run away from him. Also, big Republican prosecutor in my county switched parties to beat the incumbent Republican. Sebelius just vetoed a couple of coal fired power plants out in Western Kansas, which is empty, due to "environmental concerns." I don't know how she will play on the national stage. She is attractive and much better spoken that Barry. No ughs, ands,or errs about it.

I have an extreme animal lover in the family- she's done countless animal rescues, and she's helped me a couple times to do the same. It can be over weight, losing weight, lifting, or just age. In my case (and like the one 20 years ago), it's because of a major weight loss (141 pounds in the last two years, diet and exercise). I almost expected this to happen, since it was weight loss that caused the one in 1986.

It's a sweetener, it's cheap, or it was until they decided to put food products in our gas tanks, and it's not killing people. There are much worse things to be worried about right now, like how the hell did all those Mexican grown peppers get into our stores with salmonella all over them? That's a much more direct threat.

Actually, for someone in no better shape than I'm in, I'm in great health. Bad knees, but I know why. Football. Had an 'unknown fungal mass' removed from behind one knee five years ago, but the surgeon said that could have been from a thorn or minor injury festering for a couple of decades.

And I'm going to the doc next week to find out why my right arm feels like I've hit my funnybone all the time, but I betcha he finds a cyst behind my sholderblade pressing on a nerve.

But other than that, considering the various broken bones, scrapes, cuts, contusions and general wear-and-tear over more than a half-century I feel great!

Our newest foster addition has a common (7%) foot condition. We took her in yesterday to see her county public health doc. That doc said nothing to worry about. I thought to myself "I don't think so" and looked it up, "'nothing to worry about" is if it self corrects by 9 months, she's 15 months. We're going to our regular pediatrician for a second opinion.

Hasn't happened yet. Doctor wants to the the endoscopy first, so I'm eating wheat again for at least four weeks, and then he'll go in and look around.

"Annenberg-Gate" - It's not the crime, it's the cover up

There has been some very interesting blogosphere discussion in reaction to the National Review piece on the blocking of access to research material on the Chicago Annenberg Challenge today.

One comment noted: it's not the crime, it's the cover up and now the University of Illinois has provided the cover up.

Ironic, that a public university would attempt to prevent a legitimate author and journalist - with a Ph.D. in Anthropology from Harvard to boot - from accessing documents legitimately housed in their library. Ironic, and possibly illegal.

interesting article/post, and interesting site

toradol is good stuff, and non-narcotic. It can be hard on the kidneys, so they make you sign a release before they will let you have it for more than 3 days.

I was thrilled to sign....amazing how little you worry about your kidneys when another body part is screaming and you don't tolerate narcotics very well

Oh, yeah. I'm at least 30 pounds over the weight at which I feel best. I've always been broad, but muscular. Now I don't work hard so the muscle is softening.

First time in my life that my waist isn't ten inches smaller than my chest. Always been a problem buying suits off the rack.

And they take sooooo long to heal, sort of sometimes never really right again.

About 4 years ago, I had a nightmare of a large bee (bigger than me) chasing me in a swimming pool. I remember trying to get out of the pool and I slipped on the edge.

Next thing you know, I'm awake, on the floor, my left elbow jammed into 3 ribs, fractured them. It took 6 months for the pain to even go away.

It was what help get me laid off, as the Department of Energy didn't like me coming to work so drugged up every few days. But the docs kept giving me stronger and stronger pain meds until I could barely function.

A former student of my grad school advisor went to work for a manufacturer of isotopes. (I guess the advisor got him fed up with academia; he certainly did that for me.)
He was visiting and told me about how the workers there would steal tools from the "hot" labs and take them home. These tools were radioactive. That is both wrong, and goes too far to the "no problem" line.

On the other extreme, I was in a summer program at Argonne National Labs, at the Zero Gradient Synchrotron, and had tours of various other sites, including reactors. I found out that granite dorms gave more radiation exposure than the places I worked and visited. Made me feel smug about anti-nuke types meeting in granite buildings.

But the docs kept giving me stronger and stronger pain meds until I could barely function.

After the doc took whatever it was out from behind my knee they wheeled me to my room and I was out like a light. That night, the nurse came by about every hour to wake me up and ask if I wanted anything for the pain. I kept telling her, "I don't hurt, I'm sleepy. Leavemealone, whydoancha?"

So the next day when the doc came around he looked at my chart and just went off on the poor nurse, "You haven't given this man any pain meds?" I piped up, "Hey, it doesn't hurt. You did a great job of cutting."

"Well now I'm going to make you get up and walk. That's going to hurt. I recomend you take a shot of morphine."

I bet they could sell that morphine, if they wanted to.

Part of HAZMAT training was for radiological incidents, while learning to use some of the equipment the instructor hid a small vial of DU in the fire station for us to track down and find. I was up in the kitchen getting hits on the counters, and tracked down the .... peanut butter.

Peanuts apparently incorporate radon while growing, just enough to be above back ground radiation to be able to find with the gear.

Other fun dishes - Vaseline glass

Vaseline Glass is a particular color of yellow-green glass that is made by adding 2% Uranium Dioxide to the ingredients when the glass formula is made.

The addition of the Uranium Dioxide makes the glass color yellow-green. Vaseline Glass is ALWAYS verifiable by using an ultraviolet light (blacklight) on the glass item. When this is done, the glass turns a bright florescent green!

Canadian Immigration Laws Allow Convicted Terrorist and Killer to Make Home in Ontario.

Forty years ago, Mahmoud Mohammad Issa Mohammad, a former teacher, joined the terrorist group the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.

On Dec. 26, 1968, Mohammad and another gunman launched an attack on an El Al airliner at Athens International Airport. The two ran up on the tarmac firing guns and, throwing grenades at the passenger jet, wounded a flight attendant as she opened an emergency exit and killed a 50-year-old passenger, Leon Shirdan.

Speaking of "Recreate '68," is it not bizarre that any so-called "civil rights activist" would want to in any way recreate, or wallow in nostalgia for, that year?

Leaving aside the murder of Dr. King which happened that spring, the "minority community"--i.e., black Americans--have made huge strides individually and collectively in the four decades since 1968. Turning the clock back forty years is something no person genuinely interested in civil rights would consider for a moment.

Methinks it's that constant theme of communism - struggle. Must have something to keep struggling against, even if it means making up demons or going back in time to recognizable themes.

Geez, you'd have thought someone would have thought of this before going all nutroots. Talking to someone who was there, I mean.

Cross in the dirt story.

You've probably seen that there are some out there in the blogosphere questioning the authenticity of John McCain's "cross in the dirt" story, which McCain told Saturday night at the Saddleback Summit. But there doesn't seem much mention of the fact that McCain had a lot of fellow POWs in Vietnam, and they can be asked for their recollections. So I called Orson Swindle, a fellow POW who is campaigning for McCain, to ask him about it.

"I recall John telling that story when we first got together in 1971, when were talking about every conceivable thing that had ever happened to us when we were in prison" Swindle told me a few minutes ago.

It's almost like someone was afraid to check it out, and just wanted to sling mud.

re: #618 buzzsawmonkey

Oh, absolutely. The irony of the "progressive" is that s/he must deny the actuality of progress in order to stay in business.

A year or so ago I mentioned the folkie ballad "Little Boxes," by communist Malvina Reynolds, popularized by communist Pete Seeger. What does this song sneer at? The "little boxes made of ticky-tacky," i.e., the individually-owned houses, purchased by working people in the postwar boom.

Time was that communism made gains by promising its adherents a better future. But the "little boxes" were built and became available to ordinary people--who would otherwise have lived in flats, furnished rooms, boarding houses, or (if they were lucky) rented houses, by the growth and wealth of capitalism. And so the left which should have celebrated this shining exemplar of working-class progress was compelled to ridicule and revile it.

Compare those "little houses of ticky-tacky" with the apartment blocks in the Soviet Union. The Russians couldn't even dream of living in a little house of ticky-tacky!

Not familiar with that one.

John Cougar Mellencamp, in the 1980s, did a song reviling the "little pink houses" all over the US.

All the people who lived in them were miserable, and somehow they reflect the failure of America to make them happy.

The chorus is sarcastic

Oh but aint that america for you and me
Aint that america were something to see baby
Aint that america, home of the free
Little pink houses for you and me

The song was not only deriding the houses, but the people in them, their educations, and their careers. "They all go to university, and they all look the same". Yeah, it was a snotty little song. I am living in one of those houses that she was deriding, it was built in 1949, zero lot line, 25x100' lot. Made for when Johnny came marching home.

More of Mellencamp's anti-"everyone having a nice little house" song

Theres a black man with a black cat
Living in a black neighbourhood
Hes got an interstate runnin through his front yard
You know, he think, that hes got it so good
And theres a woman in the kitchen cleanin up the evening slop
And he looks at her and says: hey darling, I can remember when you could stop a clock

Chorus

Well theres a young man in a t-shirt
Listening to a rockin rollin station
Hes got a greasy hair, greasy smile
He says: lord, this must be my destination
cuz they told me, when I was younger
Boy, youre gonna be president
But just like everyting else, those old crazy dreams
Just kinda came and went

Chorus

Well theres people and more people
What do they know know know
Go to work in some high rise
And vacation down at the gulf of mexico
Ohhh yeah
And theres winners, and theres losers
But they aint no big deal
cuz the simple man baby pays for the thrills,
The bills and the pills that kill

Hey Lizards – bad news today – nephew of a co-worker (why do outstanding young men like this get taken from us and we’re stuck with pond scum like Michael Moore?)

Private First Class Daniel A.C. McGuire, United States Marine Corps, 19, of Mashpee, was killed in action on August 14, 2008 while conducting combat operations in the Al Anbar Province of Iraq.

The son of Mark & Karen Kae McGuire, Daniel was born in Middleboro and moved to Mashpee as a toddler, where he attended Heritage Christian Pre-School and Mashpee Public Schools, graduating in the Class of 2007. Daniel excelled in academics and was a multiple recipient of the Samuel B. Davis Good Manners Award, earning a letterman's jacket by excelling on the MCAS Exam. He played lacrosse for Mashpee High School, sang with the Mashpee High School concert choir, enjoyed participating in the Blue Falcon Theatre Group, and was best known for his portrayal of Edward P. Dowd in their production of "Harvey".

A long-time attendee of Christ Chapel in Centerville, he served in vacation bible school as an usher and participated in youth group. Daniel was a long-time Boy Scout achieving the rank of Life Scout, a member of the ABAKE-MI-SA-NA-KI Lodge of the Order of the Arrow and earned his God & Country award. He created the flag retirement boxes in place in the municipal buildings in Mashpee and loved sketching, woodcarving, reading and writing. Daniel's dedication to God, family and country made him an inspiration to all who knew him.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his brothers, Samuel, Stephen & Benjamin, all of Mashpee; brothers-in-heart, SPC Timothy Brainard of Colorado and James Brainard of Middleboro; grandparents, Bob & Hilda Buck of Middleboro and Julia McGuire and the late William McGuire of Quincy; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Daniel's faith, love, laughter and patriotism will be celebrated at a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at Christ Chapel, 1200 Old Stage Rd, Centerville, MA 02632. Burial is private at Massachusetts National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ‘Cape Cod Cares for the Troops’, 1831 Long Pond Rd, Brewster, MA 02631.

(I know we're not supposed to post addresses, but I thought (?) this would be OK...)

And think of the dystopian future where an ideology built upon the idea of struggling has nothing to struggle against.

I don't believe liberals think that far ahead.

Consequences are too troublesome to contemplate.

All they have to do is go back in history to see how their ideology doesn't work and yet there is still denial of human nature facts in our time.

It's as though they think only in terms of 'if only'. If only the right people were in power and in the support base. If only the right amount of money/productivity was taken from others and distributed. If only we could force people through power to do our bidding on a personal level. If only.

680 noshariaincanada  Tue, Aug 19, 2008 6:30:23pm

dinner: Fresh tomatoes baked with rice & taco-seasoned ground beef.

1) cook some rice, and while rice is cooking ...

2) brown some ground beef & season to taste: I use fresh chopped garlic & taco spices

3) cut a hole in the top of the tomatoes and empty them of almost all pulp (set this aside and use to make pasta sauce)

4) when ready, mix cooked rice & beef and use that to stuff the tomatoes

5) put stuffed tomatoes in 400deg oven for 20min

6) enjoy

p.s. not sure if necessary, but I made a little "cradle" out of aluminum foil so that the tomatoes don't fall apart while in the oven. The cradle doesn't completely envelop the tomato, just the bottom 1/3 or so, to give it support.

Can you smell the defeatism in the air. They couldn't get it done with Iraq, so they're going to try it with Afghanistan. "They" being the NYT of course.

They're using the latest suicide bombing there and death of 10 French paratroopers to all but announce that all is lost, given the outgoing Bush administration, the Afghan government having issues, and Pakistan's mess.

Let's see, what exactly did the terrorists accomplish? They didn't gain ground. They lost terrorists in the process, and the US and NATO are still there. The majority of those killed in terror attacks today were fellow Muslims, and civilians at that.

Socialism is utterly incompatible with the American mindset. Ever live in a condominium? I'll bet, if you knew everything that Coke, Pepsi, Bud, Miller, and all the rest of them commemorate with special cans everyone would have something to be cheesed-off about.

Shoot, Bud (or Miller) puts out special cans for deer season. That's bound to p*ss off PETA. Coke commemorates SEC football. That's gotta honk off Ohio State fans.

Problem with commemorative cans is that one person's celebratory event is someone else's flashpoint. Trick is to evaluate the potential gain/lose to your advantage.

re: #618 buzzsawmonkey

So much for them being for 'the worker', eh?

Commies are such a joke.

Speaking of "Recreate '68," is it not bizarre that any so-called "civil rights activist" would want to in any way recreate, or wallow in nostalgia for, that year?

Liberal nostalgia for certain elements of the late '60's civil rights movement is no more bizarre than most nostalgia. In many ways the second half of that decade was a time of great experimentation, excitement and stark cultural and political choices - with leaders to match. This is in stark contrast to the non-descript, blurry and depressing political and social landscape of today - also with leaders to match.
No wonder many liberals and former liberals pine for what they perceive to have been the good old days, and choose at the same time to suppress the negative features of those years.

You’re so 1988 or When did Barack Obama meet Bill Ayers?

This has remained until now an unanswered question. Yet it is crucial to the still unanswered question about the influence today of the authoritarian “leftists” Bill Ayers and his wife Bernardine Dohrn on the Obama campaign. A recent New York Times profile of Obama’s days on the South Side of Chicago contends that, according to unnamed “aides” to Obama, Obama first met Ayers and his wife Bernardine Dohrn at the Hyde Park home of the couple. This meeting occurred apparently in November, 1995 according to an anonymous blogger who claims to have been there, as Obama was launching his campaign for the state senate of Illinois.

If the Ayers/Dohrn-Obama meet and greet took place in November, 1995, it cannot have been the first time that Obama met Ayers. By that time Obama was already Chairman of the Board of the $50 million Chicago Annenberg Challenge Grant program that was designed by Ayers. Ayers began the grant proposal design process in December 1993 and the grant was formally announced in January, 1995. Barack Obama was identified as the Chair in press reports in June of 1995.

So, unless Ayers helped pick a board chair he had never met and would never meet until the “meet and greet,” Obama, in fact, met Ayers well before the launching of his state senate campaign. Of course, it is very likely that there would have had to have been a very close working relationship between Ayers, as the lead architect of the Annenberg proposal, and the first board chairman. They would have had to have agreed on basic educational policy issues. And Obama would have been crucial in leading fund raising efforts since the $50 million grant was conditioned on a 2-1 match from other donors (and something they were quite successful at - raising an additional $60 million by 1999).

As I have written here before, my hypothesis is that Ayers and Obama had an older relationship and a deeper political affinity than has been made clear until now. The attempts by so many around Obama, and by Obama himself, to portray this as an arms length relationship simply do not fit the facts that are available.

Socialism is utterly incompatible with the American mindset. Ever live in a condominium? Seems like a great idea - someone else will mow the lawn, paint the house, shovel the walks... and then the reality of following the community rules and regs hits - you can't put a satellite dish up, you can't change the color of your front door, you can't park your bicycles under your deck... and people go nuts.

Yeah. 'If only' they'd take human nature into account, they'd realize there's no way their utopia would ever work.

Disagree. Those ain't commies living in those high-priced condos in the resort communities and revitalized urban neighbourhoods. And even the modest ones with all their disadvantages are at least a relatively affordable form of entry level and retirement private home ownership.

I'm guessing a bit here, but

There's mega bytes (8 bits) and mega bits.

You are presumably on a wireless connection at 11. If you were on direct ethernet it might say 100 (which is what it can be PC to PC on a network).

11 mega bits makes 1.375 m bytes.

It's all designed to confuse and make more money for someone.
