Haircuts for the Homeless

Wed, Aug 20, 2008 at 8:25:00 am PDT

For one short week, the city of Denver will have the best-coiffed homeless population in America: Denver’s homeless get free haircuts to look good for Obama and his Democrats.

According to Rick Sallinger of the CBS TV station, Denver Human Services has been handing out coupons for free homeless haircuts.

The idea was to make the homeless feel better about themselves. And maybe then they’d get jobs or something.

Rusty Johnson told Rick he hadn’t had a haircut in three or four months and, frankly, didn’t much care about the Democrats caring about his appearance. “I just want to look good and feel good for myself,” he said.

UPDATE at 8/21/08 2:17:35 pm:

An email from the Denver’s Road Home organization:

The City and County of Denver is not giving out free haircuts. The owners of a private business, Sly’s Salon, distributed coupons and gave out free haircuts. We applaud this and other community efforts to help the homeless.

Denver’s Road Home is working to ensure that people are safe and treated well during the DNC. We’re treating the homeless as we have been for almost three years. We are, and have always been, committed to ensuring everyone has a safe place to be. During the DNC, DRH will expand outreach services to get the homeless connected with services and shelter. DRH is also working with providers to expand facility hours, both day and evening, and to provide special programs for homeless youth. DRH is also working closely with the Denver Police to ensure the safety and well being of people on the streets.

Your help in clearing up the many inaccurate comments floating around will be greatly appreciated.

I would have thought the idea would have been to show as many homeless as possible.

and make them as scruffy as possible

to make Bush look bad

5 Kosh's Shadow  Wed, Aug 20, 2008 8:27:16am

Why do the homeless need haircuts? They'd fit in better with all the hippie protesters without the haircuts. Now they'll stick out.

6 BeerDrinking_VictoryMonkey  Wed, Aug 20, 2008 8:27:26am

Funny thing is, they'll probably look cleaner than most of the covention delegates.

I would be all for a barber doing this on their own, but taxpayers paying for it is just another case of wasted government funds.

Meanwhile..

Anti-war protestors win $2 million settlement from the city of New York.

Anti-war activists who claim they were wrongly locked up by the NYPD during a 2003 protest won a $2 million settlement from the city Tuesday.

Led by plaintiff Sarah Kunstler - the daughter of famed civil rights lawyer Bill Kunstler - the 52 protestors claimed victory.

"We hope our victory helps convince the city to stop violating people's rights as a matter of policy and stop wasting taxpayers' money doing so," Kunstler said.

No doubt Obama and the democrats are going to make free haircuts for the "middle class" one of their campaign promises if this thing works out. People making six figures a year can certainly subsidize this basic human right to get your hair cut. Maybe call it the "Full Employment for Stylists" Act?

Wondering however if offering free showering for the homeless would be more beneficial for both the homeless and the general public?

Next step, public lawn-mowing for all who qualify.

It'll start with one little ol' granny who can avoid the nursing home and take care of herself in her own home, except she just can't handle the lawn anymore. It'll end with 1/2 the country mowing their own lawns and then paying for their neighbor's lawn.

next, denver decided they were going to hand out coupons to the homeless so they could enjoy the zoo, art and history museums for free.

Sick people. Will they be flying in Henrico Frank?

One day, Henrico Frank was unemployed and unknown. After a haircut and shave he became undoubtedly Germany's best-known jobless man. Now, Frank may even have landed himself a steady job, thanks to an unexpected run-in last week with a politician in Wiesbaden.

It all began on Tuesday, when Frank was cruising through a Christmas market in Wiesbaden, wearing grubby clothes, a pair of nose rings and a thatch of partially bleached, punk-inspired hair.

The 37-year-old, who has been without work for six years, chanced upon Kurt Beck, the governor of Rhineland-Palatinate state and chairman of the Social Democrats -- the center-left half of Chancellor Angela Merkel's federal coalition.

Beck was a perfect, if unwilling, target for Frank's frustration, and he harangued the politician for what he saw as the failure of economic reforms that were aimed at lifting people like himself -- a construction worker -- out of unemployment and into a better life.

Beck's retort: "If you would just wash and shave, you'd find a job too."

Frank figured he'd see if Beck's claim was true.

And he got a job:

BERLIN An unemployed man who took the advice of a politician who told him to get a haircut if he wanted a job has started work as a punk producer at iMusic TV in Frankfurt. Henrico Frank, 38, received eight job offers after his makeover but landed his new job after the station saw photographs of his old look.

Ha! It rocks!

2/10/09- In his first meeting with a foreign head of state, the leader of Hamas-Gaza, President Obama today announced his "Pedicures for Poor America" program." Americans need to feel better about themselves, " President Obama said, " it's really necessary for poor folks to be able to kick back, relax, and get a pedicure". Obama stated the program would be funded by a new tax on " our wealthier citizens" those earning at least $80,000 a year, who, " can well afford to pay for this necessary service".

In other news Obama defended the exodus of millionaires from the United States under claims that Obama's tax policies were confiscatory and stated that negotiations hosted by French President Sarkozy would begin soon with Russian President Putin for the withdrawal of Russian peacekeeping forces who had taken up positions in Michigan and Florida on claims of protecting the South Ossetian people from Georgian banditry.

And conservatives are indeed conservative because if the bridge falls down, people die. Where as the liberals figure, oh, we can always build a nice memorial to them and make people forget it happened and it was our fault. They're very good at making people forget it was their

I think that the coupons are only good for a complete shave down to the skin

That should be "I think that the coupons SHOULD ONLY BE good for a complete shave down to the skin". Duhh... [drool]

(PIMF, if I would only take the time and read...)

Funny thing is, they'll probably look cleaner than most of the covention delegates.

Yuppers!

The dems are actually doing this so they can change the batteries in the tracking devices hidden under the scalps of the homeless.

Wasn't it Biden who described Obama as "bright and clean and a nice-looking guy"? Hmmm... I think they're onto something here! They've seen what works and they're running with it!

Oh yeah, no money, spent it all on ripple this morning.
Thank god for another Lib handout.
Hobama will announce a new shopping cart and haircut initiative for his administration, it will only cost 200 million and will be pair for by raising capital gains on the "Big Rich".
No comment from Big and Rich.

It's pretty obvious that it's a police operation to weed out the Repeat 68 hippies. When the tear gas and smoke starts to fly, they'll know who to arrest.

I feel sorry for the beauticians/barbers. Now, instead of just disinfecting their combs in that jar of solution, they're gonna have to disinfect/decontaminate the entire premises! ! !

/...and now I'm off to a newer thread! ...or maybe dinner!

I live in the area, and I'm not going near downtown for at least two weeks after the convention. You, Democrap fallout.

Seriously, people, aren't the Dims supposed to be for the poor? They're actually giving them free movie and zoo passes, haircuts, etc. to either get them out of downtown or, if they won't move, make them look better in the eyes of the rest of the country.

Read one article about how Denver Mayor Hickenpooper is making this "the greenest convention evah" and you will laugh out loud at what's going on (e.g. volunteers will be sifting through the garbage to sort the recyclable items, all fanny packs had to be made in America by unions)

I would love to see an attendee throw all plastic in the garbage and watch the sentinels scramble.
