McCain response to Obambi ad

“Barack Obama’s ad is ridiculous. Because of John McCain, corruption was exposed and people like Jack Abramoff went to jail.
“However, if Barack Obama wants to have a discussion about truly questionable associations, let’s start with his relationship with the unrepentant terrorist William Ayers, at whose home Obama’s political career was reportedly launched. Mr. Ayers was a leader of the Weather Underground, a terrorist group responsible for countless bombings against targets including the U.S. Capitol, the Pentagon and numerous police stations, courthouses and banks. In recent years, Mr. Ayers has stated, ‘I don’t regret setting bombs … I feel we didn’t do enough.’
“The question now is, will Barack Obama immediately call on the University of Illinois to release all of the records they are currently withholding to shed further light on Senator Obama’s relationship with this unrepentant terrorist?” –McCain spokesman Brian Rogers

Thats gonna leave a mark!

No, no 48 hour rule required. She was on life support earlier. She had a cerebral hemorrage last night. The aneurism was located in a place that is completely inoperable, thus it could not be repaired. There was absolutely no hope of recovery for her.

The good news is that this is a pretty fast way to go.

This is how. You cut down the plants, beat the shit out of someone with them, take the money from their wallet and buy a bottle of tequila. Simple.

44 karmic_inquisitor  Wed, Aug 20, 2008 4:23:55pm

The fronds on a century plant are very fiberous. Natives in the San Diego area made rope/twine with the fiber.

BTW - when the plant sends up that stock, it dies few months after. But it has "pups" which are new plants that grow out from the periphery of the main plant. Removing one of these things is a big pain.

Here is I think one of the big reasons that things have brokrn down, Barry introduced race. Bad move, he is no longer inoculated from criticism because of his race. McCain will treat him like any other Marxist leaning Democrat.
The other bad move is that he has revealed too much of himself, "We are who we have waited for." "People of Berlin, people of the World."

The delusional , Messianic complex is now too clear.

No, not at all. The democrats convention is next week. Obama is announcing his VP by Saturday of this week. John McCain is not announcing his VP pick until Aug 20 - the day after the the Democrat's convention is over. At that point, it will be too late.

And I'm not at all sure that McCain cannot beat Hillary too, She will not get the backing of Obama's supporters, there are a bunch of women who would never vote for her under any circumstances and she is dragging Bill along with her.

And don't worry - John McCain knows all about how to play hard ball. He has much more political experience than Hillary does you know.

My father went in for "routine" open heart surgery. They ignored his aneurism, which burst when they started his heart up again--fortunately, before they'd closed his chest. They were able to save him, but he was in a coma for six weeks, and we were warned to expect him to be a vegetable if he came out of it.

Fortunately, he did come out of it--and recovered about 85% capacity. So we had him, or most of him, with us for another 3 years.

Aortic aneurism I presume? My dad had one of those too. My mother had brain aneurisms.

I'm convinced that doctors really know almost nothing about what or will not make someone a vegetable.

The brain is a highly complex and little understood organ, so that is not terribly surprising.

My Dad died 5 years ago from an aortal aneurism. He bled out twice, they replaced his blood twice, stopped the bleeding. They told us he had about a 2 percent chance of making it through the night.

They induced a coma. He made it through the night. The next day, his kidneys started to function, and liver, he could breath on his own if they wanted him too, but they saw no functional brain activity.

He had a DNR request with the hospital, but they still asked me to make the decision, of course, I did.

Aneurism's are a silent killer. Most of the time if they find one ahead of time, it's only because they were looking for something else.

re: #107 rightymouse

Not really. An aneurysm is caused when the vascular walls weaken and your blood pressure forces blood out of the vessel and it creates a sort of balloon. When it ruptures, you start bleeding out unless there is a way to stop the blood loss. George C Scott and Harvey Korman died of abdominal aneurysms. Rep. Tubbs had one, I believe in her brain.

A stroke is cause by a blood clot or other blockage that stops the flow of blood to the brain.

Is an aneurism the same thing as a stroke?

It's a weak spot in major veins or the aortal system. It can burst and you internally bleed out. It's rare to survive.

re: #109 ploome hineni

Not exactly. Sometimes people (including doctors) call aneurisms strokes, but that is not quite right.

A classic stroke happens when one of the arteries to your brain becomes blocked, shutting off the oxygen to your brain.

An aneurism is caused by a weak spot in your blood vessel - similar to a weak spot in a tire. Sometimes that weak spot can let go, leaking blood into the area where the aneurism is located. Brain aneurisms are fairly common, as are aneurism of the aorta - the big artery coming off your heart. Aortic aneurisms are caught & repaired fairly often. Brain aneurism not so commonly diagnosed before they burst.

That kind is invariably the lack of oxygen to the brain sort. Oddly enough , there is a huge difference in recovery rates of this kind between men and women. Men tend to use mainly one side of their brains, so what they lose in this kind of stroke is pretty much gone. Women, on the other hand, tend to use both sides of their brain. They often have a complete or near complete recovery from this kind of stroke.

The intercranial does two things, one the area of brain downstream of the rupture is deprived of blood (bad) the bleeding in to the brain raises intercranial pressure which damages the entire brain (worse). If pressure rises too much it start to squeeze the brain stem, breathing and heart control, out through the foramen magnum, the hole at the bottom of the skull the spinal cord exits through (worst).

No, any sort of food, drink, whatever, causes the bowels to move and that's what help the intestine poke through the weak spot in the abdominal wall. As it is, I am trying to eat only once or twice a day becuase it can get so uncomfortable for 15-20 minutes.

The pain is not caused by gas or indigestion or anything like that. It's purely have a physical part of you body trying to squeeze itself through a soft spot, which twists it, piches it and so forth.

Think of it as if you are trying to poke a sausage into a balloon. (that sounded sexy)

There will be mass arrests. It's not a matter of if. It's when and how many. The anarchists are plotting. The ultra-leftists are planning. They're going to have a grand old time raising a ruckus and doing what they usually do (a wee bit of the old ultraviolence).

As for the facilities, methinks that a few of them will have seen the inside of County lockup, so these facilities are not going to be all that imposing.

When given a choice between left and right, the flake goes up -- if not through the 8th dimension. And although there's plenty of rationalization, there's never a logical reason for any of it. I was missing my grandfather today too. His oldest grandchild (me) and the wife of his youngest (my cousin) are both expecting babies within 3-4 weeks of each other. He would have gotten a big kick out of that.

Evening lizards - from Birmingham Alabama tonight, long way from home sweet home California.

I have these century plants growing in my yard but I avoid them like the plague. Years back I took a chainsaw to one of these babies wearing shorts and the juice flung back on my legs. In about a minute I was in the most intense PAIN I have ever been in. It was an intense burning sensation. I thought the juice must be basic so ran to the house and poured vinegar all over my legs to no avail. Then I switched to baking soda thinking it might have been an acid - again to no avail. Nothing worked but after about five minutes the pain went away, didn't even leave welts or anything. I figured I must be allergic to something in the plant so I give them wide berth now.

You ought to try the Puer, it is aged and has a very musty taste that really grows on you. You need to rinse it before you brew it to get rid of the real musty flavor. Check out the link above, its really got some medicinal qualities to it (and really good for a hang over).

I cleaned up as best I could, and I noticed that it even spilled onto the left side of my keyboard. I turned the keyboard over and let it drip onto a white dish towel. I picked it up at times and tilted it this-way and that-way.

Now, my CTRL key is kinda' sluggish. Kinda'?! Heck, it is almost impossible to use without my paying actual attention to it as I type. (I don't hunt-and-peck. I don't know what my WPM is but, it's up there.)

Oh, dear. I hate to whine but, I think I really screwed up today. My 22-lb. cat jumped into my lap as I was reaching for a sheet coming off the printer. I hit my FULL mug of tea, and it spilled everywhere--except, of course, on kitty.

Do I need a new keyboard?

Yep, the crap will dry into a sticky mess that slowly kills, key by key. Pick up a medium quality keyboard for like 25 bucks....

This is a desktop keybord, right? You can unplug it and run it under the faucet (warm water), then let it dry. But as much as you post, I'll bet you couldn't wait for it to dry. In that case, buy a new keyboard.

If you are adventurous, there are two things you can do.

You can pop off the offending key, clean up under it, and snap it back on.

You can also rinse the keyboard under clean water and let it dry thoroughly.

Any brewing tips? I actually have a small selection of several different types, both "raw" and "aged". One mushroom "tuo", two cakes, and two other samples.

The Chinese use the little insulated tea pots. Rinse once with hot water and pour out (quite a cerimony accompanies all this, how they pour it out etc.). Then fill the pot and let it steep for a few. You can repeat this until you loose almost all color.

Most keyboards are a function of a keycap over a rubber-clad metal contact placed over a circuit board. Liquids spilled on the keyboard affect the rubber-clad cover and cause the "stickyness". Washing and complete drying of the keyboard should repair the problem. Usually the rubber-clad component is of a one piece design that includes the entire keyboard to prevent contamination of the circuit board underneath. True. How does Obama's military experience rate?

Well, he watches reruns of "Hogan's Heroes".

150 C?

Man, you are a tough guy.

We age our IC's that way. 10 hours at 150°C is about 10 years use on a chip. I'll throw test electronics in at that for 20 minutes to make sure their dry after cleaning.

Me @ 346

Mandy, I have rescued many expensive keyboards this way. Rinse them with only water and dry them completely and they should be good to go.

I have built many computer systems for individuals as well as businesses. When problems evolved, I was the solution and I have been there, done that. Coffee being the main offender of keyboards, not tea. LOL!

Hmmmm. So Hogan taught the Oman duplicitous and evasive behavior. Its all becoming clear! Whereas our man US Grant was remarkably straight forward.

I know this is gross, but keyboards are perfect incubators for all kinds of nasty bacteria and other microscopic critters. I go over mine with some alcohol and a Q tip about once a week. I don't go all Howard Hughes with it, but it helps me out.

And, the Shit key is sluggish, but, not as much as the CTRL key. The Caps Lock key, to a lesser degree.

SHOOT MY COMPUTER.

Just so long as your "fuck it" key works. You'll be fine.

Not to add to it but I read about a study that said office keyboards were dirtier then the inside door handle of a restrooms.

A Conservative Argument for Scapegoating

"And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel… and shall send him away….And the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities." Leviticus 16, KJV

Every society needs to believe that it lives according to rules, but in order for society to endure, every society needs to break those rules. Since 9/11, the U.S. government has broken many of the rules we thought we lived by–rules against torture, against wiretapping Americans, against the all-but-permanent suspension of habeas corpus.

Perhaps those rules needed to be broken, and perhaps they didn't: that's quite beside the point. Instead, the point is that those who broke the rules must be punished, even if they did the right thing. This is another one of the lessons to be drawn from The Dark Knight, Christopher Nolan's new blockbuster: People need scapegoats so that they can feel better about committing necessary sins.

A few days ago, Andrew Klaven pointed out in the Wall Street Journal that there are more than a few parallels between the careers of George W. Bush and the Batman: Both have tested the rules of society in an attempt to save society. But the Batman is already outside of society: As Alfred reminds him repeatedly, Batman is an "outcast"–one might say a scapegoat–one who can "make the choices that no one else can make." He lives in a cave, tells few who he really is, and wears a mask in public–whether the mask is called "Bruce Wayne" or "The Batman." But Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, John Yoo; all of these people have tried to stay inside of society while working outside of society's norms. This will not hold.

Instead, at some point, a day of reckoning will arrive. It may be a war crimes tribunal; it may be, as New Yorker columnist Jane Mayer seems to recommend, a truth commission. But names will be named, careers will be destroyed, a scapegoat or two will be sent out into the desert. And we will all go back to thinking of ourselves as basically "good people."

But will things change? Not likely: Even Barack Obama voted to renew the Patriot Act, and he supported limited immunity for telecom firms who helped with the warrantless wiretap program. Perhaps this means that the norms are changing, or perhaps it means that in another decade or so the outrage from the masses will rise up demanding yet another scapegoat. All the while, our elected leaders will, most likely, keep right on doing what we secretly want them to do: Breaking society's rules without destroying our belief in the rules.

Putting our sins onto a goat, or a mid-level attorney, or a cabinet official, and sending it off to its doom is just what society needs to keep going. Conservatives know that human nature is frail and difficult to change: Since scapegoating has worked for millennia, it will probably keep working just fine for the duration of this very necessary World War IV. So when the time comes for the show trials, conservatives should applaud, not grimace: This is just what the great mass of people need.

Indeed, scapegoating is deeply conservative: After all, it's right there in the Bible.

I would add that this a good time to sell Gazprom stock (OGZPY). For those who feel strongly about it then they should short the stock.

You must know that any American investor is going to get the shaft from the Russians on this Gazprom deal.

I continue finding on this website commercials paid by an entity describing itself as a "partnership for a drug-free America."

How can such a thing be propagated as a desireable goal?

I am ready join any partnership for more sovereignty towards drugs, but something that gives freedom a bad name by claiming it was incompatible with drugs never ever.

Sigmund Freud got that one correct: I if you think you can make the people more faithful by taking away their drugs you confirm Karl Marx´ assertion that religion was the opium of the masses.

Those pathetic ads targeted on clumsy parents... are they the nose of sharia in the yeoman tent?
